Today's book club adventure takes us into the era of Sylvester McCoy. We take a look at the BBC's first Seventh Doctor story in the Past Doctor Adventures range, where he and Ace encounter the Cybermen and Nazis. But in World War 2. Not in Windsor. We're joined by co-author Mike Tucker and Steve Cole - at the same time! - to discuss this novel.
Ghost finder Thomas Carnacki deals with many uncanny mysteries that defy explanation. But throughout his life, a stranger keeps appearing. Whether he is an ally or a rival remains to be seen, but one thing is certain. When the Doctor and Carnacki cross paths, death and danger are always close... The Haunter of the Shore by AK Benedict 1897. Young Carnacki investigates a case at Edgemere Manor where the skeletons of tourists are left on the shore of the lake. Carnacki must discard everything he knows when he discovers that the estate's hermit is the Doctor, and that time is being manipulated by an unseen force. The Doctor and Carnacki must work together if the mystery of Edgemere Manor is to be solved, the house saved, and the haunted residents find peace. The House by Georgia Cook Awoken in the dead of night to assist his distraught friend Arkright, Carnacki finds himself unexpectedly thrust into a long-buried mystery from his childhood, and face-to-face with a man he hasn't seen in years: the Doctor. But what is 'The House'? Why does everything Arkright touch transform into the same rotting furnishings and wallpaper? Can a man really be haunted by a building? The Institute of Forgotten Souls by Jonathan Barnes In the heart of England in 1936 there lies a home for wounded men. It is a strange, shadowed place, full of secrets. Terrible beasts prowl the grounds, as if guarding something dreadful. Inmates are disappearing, picked off one by one, while a singular resident - a certain, now retired ghost finder - bravely staves off the darkness. Yet tonight is the night when it's all going to end. For tonight is the night when the Doctor comes to call...

Doctor Who first hit the airwaves in 1963 - sixty years ago! - but the TARDIS went dark in 1989 for an indefinite hiatus. In the mid-1990s, plans started brew to import the iconic British sci-fi series across the pond to America. The BBC partnered with the Fox network to produce a TV movie, which, if it performed well, could serve as the backdoor pilot for a revived series. English actor Paul McGann took over the TARDIS console as the Eighth Doctor after Sylvester McCoy's Seventh Doctor was *checks notes* brutally gunned down by a machine-gun wielding street gang on prime-time television. Co-starring American actress Daphne Ashbrook as the doctor who tries to save him (see what I did there?) with Eric Roberts hot on their heels as The Master. Unfortunately, the special presentation was not a success, and the good Doctor remained in exile until regenerating in 2005 as Christopher Eccleston. But this is Chronovember, so we're whipping out our sonic screwdrivers and partying like it's 1999! For more geeky podcasts visit GonnaGeek.com You can find us on iTunes under ''Legends Podcast''. It's a holiday special! Not in the Christmas sense, or indeed in any meaningful way at all beyond that these are two stories where the Doctor and co attempt to take a holiday and fail. That's the way to the zoo, that's the way ... to the latest episode of Prepare The Timelash!!? Indeed it is, and this month Ken & Mike continue their foray into the Seventh Doctor era of Doctor Who as they take a look at Ghost Light. It's a story with a reputation for being either richly atmospheric, mysteriously murky, or just plain difficult to understand. Where do our intrepid hosts fall on their opinion of the story? Pull up a seat and find out! (Just take the Doctor's advice and don't have the soup, though.)
Charles Skaggs & Jesse Jackson are joined by special guest companion Holly Mac as they discuss "Paradise Towers," the second serial from Doctor Who Season 24 in 1987, featuring Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor, Bonnie Langford as Melanie "Mel" Bush, and Richard Briers as the Chief Caretaker! The spaceship screamed over the London skyline, trailing a wake of oily black smoke through the cloudless sky. With a terrific 'BONG!' its wing smashed through the clock face of Big Ben, destroying one of the capital's centuries-old icons. The ship banked hard following the collision and with a final roar of its guttering engine, it bellied down spectacularly into the Thames! This iconic shot from the 2005 Doctor Who revival is the work of visual effects master Mike Tucker - one of the few people to have worked on Classic and New Doctor Who!Mike began his career working on the Sixth and Seventh Doctor eras before moving on to create Red Dwarfs and Star Bugs for the Red Dwarf show, amongst many others. Returning to Doctor Who with it's revival, he was responsible for many of the model shots we all know and love including the BAFTA award winning work with Daleks on Day of the Doctor. In this episode, we talk to Mike about...his start in the industryhow going to school with Russell T Davies paid off years laterblowing up Daleksspinning the TARDIS on stringmodern CGI over practical effectswriting Doctor Who books and audios...and of course, much more! It's the Greatest Show, in the Galaxy, the Galaxy, the Galaxy ... yeah. If Ken and Mike are talking about terrible cringe-inducing rapping in Doctor Who, then they must have arrived in the Seventh Doctor era to discuss "The Greatest Show in the Galaxy"! There's a lot of good stuff to talk about (Ace! The Chief Clown!), as well as some less-than-good stuff (the weird fruit stand lady, and the Gods of Ragnarok). Also, it's yet another story where the behind-the-scenes problems of its actual making are more bizarre than the story itself.
Dave's away this month, so Rob recruits super-sub Dwayne Bunney from the Sirens of Audio podcast for a suitably Big Finish themed episode, this time talking about the classic, The Fires of Vulcan - the twelfth story in Big Finish's monthly range, released in September 2000. It was written by Steve Lyons and features Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor and Bonnie Langford as Melanie Bush. Before then, the guys also talk some recent Doctor Who news, including Big Chief Studios going out of business; the surprise animation of the Underwater Menace; a possible return to Doctor Who for Steven Moffat; and the 60th anniversary celebrations at Big Finish - the 'Once and Future' range of stories. Lots to talk about! Tune in, drop out, and contact us anytime, hello@theDWshow.net

This title was released in June 2023. It will be exclusively available to buy from the Big Finish website until 31 July 2023, and on general sale after this date. Harry and Naomi are back in the TARDIS, travelling with a very different Doctor to the one they first met - and he has promised to get them home… The TARDIS takes them to Earth, but a dangerous era decades before their own. And when they visit the aftermath of a distant supernova, Harry is keener than ever to return to home comforts. But Naomi isn't so certain... Operation Dusk by Alfie Shaw (three parts) London during the Blitz, a city covered in darkness. It keeps everyone safe - until the darkness gets hungry. As the questions and victims mount up, the Doctor, Harry and Naomi are called in to investigate. Why have the Vashta Nerada on Earth started eating people? And, perhaps more importantly, why didn't they eat the cat? Naomi's Ark by Alison Winter (three parts) Caught up in a galactic evacuation triggered by a supernova, Naomi is separated from her friends, in the company of some very unusual aliens. The Doctor and Harry are stranded too - and any attempt to reach Naomi is at the expense of a precious, endangered civilisation - one that rivals the Time Lords for longevity and wisdom... How far will the Doctor go for his friends? This release comes with a bonus audiobook: Frozen Worlds by Katharine Armitage, performed by Sophie Aldred.

ON THIS EPISODE We interview the authors of "A WORLD OF DEMONS: THE VILLAINS OF DOCTOR WHO," including Hannah Friedman, Ken Deep and Barnaby Edwards. In their own words:"A World of Demons: The Villains of Doctor Who”“One may tolerate a world of demons for the sake of an angel”—Jean-Antoninette (“Reinette”) Poisson, aka Madame de Pompadour, “The Girl in the Fireplace”What a world of demons Doctor Who has presented us with over the past seven decades: from Daleks and Cybermen to Weeping Angels and the Silence, the greatest villains of the Who-niverse have achieved an iconic status all their own, cementing themselves in the minds of millions of viewers (why else would Parker Brothers have devised a version of Monopoly after them?). If, as the Seventh Doctor once said, "You can always judge a man by the quality of his enemies,” the Doctor is great indeed, rescuing the universe time and again from some of the most formidable and terrifying villains in science fiction history. Now, for the first time, an entire anthology of essays is dedicated to deconstructing this gallery of blackguards. Who are the greatest Who villains of all time? Why are they so frightening? And—apologies to Shakespeare—what do they tell us about the villainy of our own fears?Featuring essays by Joseph Dougherty (executive producer, Pretty Little Liars; producer, thirtysomething), Steven Ashby, Anton Binder, Sarah Corey, Ken Deep, Jan Fennick, Hannah Friedman, Mark Givens, Nancy Hutchins, Jennie Jarvis, Don Klees, Chris Kocher, Robin Koman, Charles Martin, Michael Robinson, Steve Sautter, and Shane Thomas.Edited by David Bushman (Conversations with Mark Frost) and Barnaby Edwards (president, Doctor Who New York)► A WORLD OF DEMONShttps://www.fayettevillemafiapress.com/product/doctor-who-copy/?fbclid=IwAR3T0BiIgXXT1vjJ0H8GmrDJ1slB0vm5xg0Ipuu_1fljcGR7F-iUtnmR8p8Follow The Legend of the Traveling TARDIS on Social Media:► FACEBOOK - Facebook.com/TheTravelingTARDIS► YOUTUBE - YouTube.com/TheLegendOfTheTravelingTARDIS► WEBSITE - TheLegendOfTheTravelingTARDIS.com► TWITTER - Twitter.com/TheTravelTARDIS► INSTAGRAM - Instagram.com/legendtravelingtardis► TWITCH TV - Twitch.tv/travelingtardis► IHEARTRADIO - iheart.com/podcast/966-the-legend-of-the-travelin-30296020The Legend of the Traveling TARDIS covers the latest news, gives the most diverse reviews and fun interviews about the Doctor WHO WHOniverse.► THE LEGEND OF THE TRAVELING TARDIS FAMILY OF SPONSORS:► Doctor WHO: Worlds Apart Virtual Card Game: doctorwho-worldsapart.com► FameTek / Speakers and Chargers: fametek.com► BE A PART OF OUR FAMILY OF SPONSORS - Got a product or service you want promoted on The Legend of the Traveling TARDIS?Email Sage@hanginwithshow.com or Christian@hanginwithshow.com for rates and details.Thumbnail design by KEVO RISSE of "Husbands Talking, More or Less Podcast."► PODCAST: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/html-husbands-talking-more-or-less/id1446018337

The Thirteenth Doctor's Regeneration Special and Doctor Who's tribute to BBC's centennial celebrations, this is definitely an event episode. And dear goodness does it try to cram in a lot! I had a lot of thoughts on "The Power of the Doctor." Clearly. This will be a three-part review. Part I is discussing the Classic Who elements of "Power," Part II will discuss the villains, and Part III will be looking at the Doctor and her companions. Enjoy! CORRECTION: I mentioned that Ace was on the show for one season. This was a mistake; she is actually on for 2 seasons plus one episode (she enters in "Dragonfire" in Season 24 and is the companion for Seasons 25 and 26). Because Seasons 25 & 26 are shorter than other seasons on Classic Who, I often put them together in my brain. I still stand by Season 26 being pretty fantastic! Season 25 is great too--just a little more bonkers. The Seventh Doctor's first season (24) is written as if we are still in the Sixth Doctor's (insane) era and his second season (25) is when the show starts to find its footing for this very different Doctor. NEXT TIME:New Who Review: The Power of the Doctor, Part IIThis one will be focusing on The Master, the Master-Cybermen, and the DaleksMonday, November 7thSpecial thanks to Cathlyn "Happigal" Driscoll for providing the beautiful artwork for this podcast. In this latest edition of Too Hot For TV Dylan is joined by Mark Cockram of the All of Time and Space podcast. Together they look at two creepy tales for Halloween in the audio format. First up it's the Seventh Doctor, Ace and Hex in Big Finish audio play 'Night Thoughts' by Edward Young. And as always they answer the burning questions :What would Poirot on LSD look like? Will Nick Briggs ever play Zippy ?Who is a frantic Arsehole? Plus a post credits scene bigger than anything Marvel has ever done.... honest!

And as quickly as we began, it was over! Dragonfire marks a significant turn in the Sylvester McCoy run as the Seventh Doctor. It most importantly introduces us to his mainstay companion in Ace played by Sophie Aldrea. Ace is an important character that will go on to enrich the idea and writing of a […]
I've been teasing that there is one serial this season that “figures it out” in regard to the Seventh Doctor era of Doctor Who. Delta and the Bannermen is that one that discovers and relishes in the hallmarks of what would come in the following 2 seasons. Tony and I discuss a lot of the […]
