During February we've been exploring how winters are changing in Wisconsin in our Thin Ice series. We've looked at the impact on ice fishing and storm water management. Today, WUWM environmental reporter Susan Bence looks at new data from Climate Central on just how much winter temperatures and even the length of the winter season is changing.
Talking about thin ice and snow storms on the show today. The photo is from the Vernon County Sheriff's Office from the Stoddard landing where an ATV went through the ice. Fortunately, the two men on it were OK. Plus a pickup went through the ice on Lake Onalaska as well. The driver, too, was safe. Plus, dealing with the new snow covering up the thin ice makes for challenges getting out onto the ice this time of year. A good reminder to be careful when heading out. BT and Sal discuss the volatile fallout of the Mets letting both Pete Alonso and Edwin Diaz walk, labeling it a "wreckage." Sal wants David Stearns to explain publicly why the Mets, with all their resources, wouldn't meet Alonso's market price, especially after a great offensive year. Tierney argues that keeping players who delivered "subpar results" makes no sense, stating that fans must choose between loving the players or demanding a winner. The conversation pivots to skepticism, addressing the caller theory that Steve Cohen's focus is now purely on the casino deal at Metropolitan Park. They also debate the future of the Mets' offense: is trading for Kyle Tucker the necessary "sexy, splashy move," or will Stearns prioritize young talent and make the team less competitive in the short term? Tierney is insistent that letting Alonso go only makes Stearns' job of building a playoff contender "more difficult."

In this episode of On The Ball, Ric Bucher delivers one of his most detailed breakdowns yet on the state of the Los Angeles Lakers, the viral moment that exposed LeBron James' disconnect, and why their chemistry is quietly fraying beneath the surface.Ric walks through the full context behind the clip of LeBron ignoring a play call, Luka Doncic's confusion, and JJ Redick's stunned timeout. He explains why LeBron's lack of energy, defensive effort, and off-ball engagement—despite sitting out the previous game—signal deeper structural issues for L.A.Then Ric breaks down the leaguewide blueprint emerging to stop the Lakers: force Luka to score while taking away his playmaking, a strategy that mirrors the Celtics' approach in the 2022 Finals and threatens to turn the Lakers' supporting cast into scapegoats.Ric also digs into the bombshell ESPN report that Ja Morant, LaMelo Ball, and Trae Young are all potentially available via trade—but that their value is so low they may only be tradable for each other. Ric explains why this marks a historic shift, which teams could realistically rehabilitate these stars, and why LaMelo may be the toughest sell of all.Additional topics include: • Why LeBron staying in games to protect scoring streaks hurts locker-room chemistry • The danger of star-centric offenses that don't produce wins • Why the broadcast's new “bench-level analysts” format causes awkward silences • How Luka's scoring-first nights may quietly divide the Lakers' roster • Which franchises actually have the infrastructure to revive Ja or TraeIf you want unfiltered NBA insight you won't hear on TV, you're in the right place.

November's elections brought victories across the country for state and local Democratic candidates who pledged to address rising energy costs. The challenges of meeting those promises the incoming Governors of Virginia and New Jersey, and Mayor of New York, will likely face. Also, a recent report warns that the European Alps, Rockies of the Western U.S. and Canada, Iceland, and Scandinavia would lose nearly all ice at 2°Celsius of warming – a threshold we're currently on track to exceed. And in the Peruvian Amazon, the Asháninka people have developed a symbiotic relationship with the local bees, which often lack stingers, and their honey. A new and innovative law in Peru has granted these bees legal rights to help protect them and the indigenous people living with them. --- Federal funding for public radio has ended. In this week's episode, David Zarling and Ian McMillan discuss the current pullback in equities, important levels moving forward, the US Dollar, Gold and Gold Miners, International areas still holding up well, and earnings reactions.
If, as expected, the net zero target is abandoned, the long delay in reaching this point will leave the Liberals looking like they've capitulated once again to the Nationals.
A tiny, overlooked component is bringing giant assembly lines to a halt. We dig into the Nexperia saga—European control, Chinese export blocks, and a packaging choke point—and explain why the “boring” diodes and transistors tucked into door locks, HVAC, and wiper motors matter as much as any cutting-edge processor. When each vehicle hides 300 to 600 of these legacy chips, one missing part can park an entire line, and that's exactly what Honda, Volkswagen, and Nissan are starting to face.We connect the supply chain dots to real-world outcomes: reduced shifts, delayed models, and dealer backlogs. Then we pivot to a sharp recalls roundup, where Ford's record-setting year meets moonroof deflectors, defrost issues, and camera failures, while tires and lighting glitches hit other brands from Cadillac to Fiat and Ferrari. It's a tour of what happens when quality, parts availability, and service capacity collide—and what owners can do now to stay safe and informed. For a breather, we fire up Name The Sold Car Price, comparing a 1952 Studebaker Commander, a 1965 MGB, an '85 F-250, a 2002 Thunderbird, and a stunning 1936 Packard 120. You'll hear what moved, what stalled, and what these numbers say about condition, provenance, and taste. We also map the calendar for Veterans Day cruise-ins, toy drives, and big regional shows—community checkpoints where car culture thrives, knowledge spreads, and enthusiasts help each other keep their machines on the road.If you care about how cars are built, why they break, and where the culture is headed, this conversation brings clarity and a few laughs.
