As we reach the conclusion to Peter’s introduction, we now enter into the “so what” portion. He tells us to do two things — 1) Prepare our minds for action, and 2) Set our minds clearly on the grace that is coming. We should be filling our minds with the things of God, which both prepares and transforms the way that we think about our current and future circumstances. Visit us online at: RenewalChurch.net
Today we continue our series "To Be Or Not To Be" and today's passage puts a challenge to us: Be holy as I AM holy. This seems like such a high calling (because it is!), but it's not a set up for failure, quite the opposite. God is calling us by grace to thrive in His holiness. 1 Peter 1:13–16 (NIV) 13 Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. 14 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16 for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”

Holiness is misunderstood often misunderstood as legalism. However, holiness comes from a much deeper place than our superficial actions. Holiness starts with the heart.

Pastor Mike continues the study of 1 Peter focusing today on "Holy Action". Peter calls those that are following Christ to 1) - be Holy as God is Holy, and 2) be prepared for action. Holiness and action come together as faith and action come together. Our holiness is not an end-all in itself, rather our holiness prepares us to be used by a Holy God to work in and further His kingdom. If we are going to be effective laborers in this dark and forsaken world, we must walk in the holiness of God so that we can be effective in our labors for Him, being holy and set apart, yet relative to the world that we're sent into to be a worker. This message helps us see our role and responsibility in loving Jesus first, focusing on our relationship with Him so that we can have His mindset as He sends us into the world applying what we have learned and being pleasing to Him. Holy Action is what we need...

Be holy is more than a command. See the hope-filled context of this command out of 1 Peter 1:13-16 that changes everything.
When we make God both Lord and Master of our lives, He saves us from the pits of living a normal life. In His salvation He gives us permission to live a WEiRD life. Last week we learned that the weird life is a life that transforms our minds to God’s. Today we will see that the weird life is a life that transforms our actions to God’s making us holy as God is holy.

The Christian life is more than just calling ourselves by a title, but living in a manner that reflects WHAT we SAY we believe. THAT is the Life we are to live.
