Slideshow for this message is available One form of video I really love is slow motion. And the reason it's so cool is because it takes very ordinary things and slows down the motion so we can see what was previously unseeable. It breaks down lighting fast action so you can behold what's really happening. Take for example this video. This is a video at normal speed of some guys dropping some paintballs into a weedeater: So not too dramatic. But a whole new world of understanding opens up to you when you slow things down: Now the reason this is so helpful is because it allows us see something that was hidden by speed. It was there, it happened right before our eyes but the speed made it invisible to us. Without slow motion, all we can see is the result. The key moments of impact are nothing but a blur. But if we slow the motion down, the miracle of sight is restored. Our brains can process. And we can see with a dimension of understanding that would otherwise never be possible. Today we are going to be talking about the subject of temptation. And this is one of the areas where we need theological slow motion. Our experience of temptation is that it hits us out of nowhere. Everything is a blur. Out of the blue, all of the sudden there's a temptation to burst out in an anger, a temptation to act on a lustful thought, a temptation to indulge in a covetous desire, a temptation to question God, a temptation to worry, a temptation to feed jealousy or bitterness. And that comes upon us so quickly, so suddenly. What just happened? It's like trying to analyze a lighting strike. Speed creates confusion because we don't have time to process. And you can see this confusion in the body language of someone who is experiencing regret and remorse. The head goes into the hands and the hair goes back, and they say to themselves, "I don't know what I was thinking." Why? It all just happened so fast. I didn't even notice. I wasn't aware anything was even happening till it was over. Well listen. That's why we have God's Word. We are so blessed by James today because what he's going to do is film your run of the mill average temptation. All he's going to do is just film it for us at 4k, 10,000fps and then he's going to play it back and we are going to watch. And I think you will be amazed. You are going to see things about temptation you've never seen. You are going to observe how simple it is. What appeared, fast, complex, confusing, disorienting will now in fact be slow, simple, obvious and clear. What this slow motion insight into temptation is going to do is arm us with knowledge so we will not be deceived in times of temptation and it's also going to give us gospel defenses against it. Now as we read the text, keep in mind the context of trials. Did you know that all trials come with an associated temptation. Financial difficulty can tempt us to question God's providence in our lives. The death of a loved one can tempt us to question God's love for us. The suffering of the righteous poor and the ease of the wicked rich can tempt us to question God's justice. How do we deal with not just these temptation but any temptation? Let's read the text: Now we are going to closely observe this passage together and what we are going to see is that there is a pattern to temptation. Temptation follows a stupidly predictable pattern; however, it isn't very obvious when it hits us at full speed. We experience it all too quickly. But James slows it down. He gives us a frame by frame. And this applies to any temptation of any variety because all temptation follows the exact same pattern. It always happens this way. So here's the first frame: All temptation begins with some sort of invitation. There's an initial attraction toward something. But there's a warning bell associated with the attraction. We sense this discrepancy between what we want to do and what we ought to do. There's this tension between desire and conscience. The promise of happiness before our eyes is in conflict with the promise of happiness in God's law. It's like an itch we aren't allowed to scratch. So all temptation begins with an invitation to sin, an enticement to do something evil. Now importantly, James informs us that - JUST TO BE CLEAR - God's not sending us this invitation. God's not the one who's tempting. And his argument is that tempting someone to evil, is, in and of itself, evil, and so therefore, whatever temptation you are experience isn't from God. God's not capable of evil. Now if your a student of the Bible and you hate unresolved tension, then what we just said isn't sufficient. Because you say to yourself, “Okay, that's perfectly logical. And if that's all the Bible said about it, I'd be totally fine. But the Bible says other things that make this confusing. For example, if God doesn't tempt anyone, and if tempting someone is evil, why does Jesus ask us to pray in the Lord's prayer” Lead us not into temptation? Wouldn't that be like praying, "God, I pray that you never lie to me." I mean, sure you can pray that, but why would you? He's never going to. You may as well pray God please keep gravity on tonight. So it would be logical to imply from the Lord's prayer that God may in fact be capable of tempting; that's why we are asking that he doesn't. Taking it further, doesn't it say in some places that God did tempt some people? Like for example, in Hebrews 11:17 Hebrews 11 Some translations here actually translated it tempted. Why? Because the word that is translated here “tested” is the same exact Greek word used in our passage in James 1 that is translated “tempted”. The reason it's the same word is because in Greek there is no word for tempted. The same Greek word can be translated tempted or tested. And you say to yourself, that's a dumb language. Why not? And the reason is because the language comes out of a worldview which views trials and temptations differently then our western mind. Let me explain. The Greek word is just the word peirazmo which again can be translated either tested or tempted. And the way you know which it is has to do with the context and the perspective from which you view it. If we are viewing from the perspective of Satan and his HATRED of us then a difficult circumstance is viewed as a TEMPTATION because it is present to you with the intent to DESTROY. He's trying to get you to FAIL. And he REJOICES in that failure. But if we are viewing that same circumstances from the perspective of God and his love for us, it's a not a temptation; it's a TEST. And it is served up by God with the intent not to destroy but to REFINE. He's trying not to get you to fail but to OVERCOME. And if you do fail he does not rejoice, he WEEPS. Same word. Two different perspectives with two different motives on the same event. Satan hates so he tries to tempt and destroy. God loves so he tests and refines. Put it in non-spiritual terms for a moment. Imagine going on a weight loss diet and then driving by a donut shop. Is that a test or a temptation? It depends? If you fail then it was a temptation. The consequences of that failure get added to your body. If you succeed then it was a test, your will was refined, your on a more stable heading, and you are stronger. So temptation begins with this invitation. And specifically it begins with an invitation to question God's claims. There's no better place to illustrate this then the temptation of Satan to Eve. You remember, Adam and Eve are in the garden. God graciously, freely provides for all their needs. And he tells them you can eat from any tree of the garden. But there's one tree in the middle I would ask you not to eat of because in the day you eat of it, you will surely die. Now the serpent comes and he tempts them. And the temptation is to question God's claims. Did God really say you couldn't eat from any fruit of the garden? No, he said we could eat from any fruit just not this fruit in the middle? Why not? Ever thought about that? Are you sure God has your interest in mind? Yeah, I'm pretty sure. He said, if we ate of it we'd die. Look at this fruit. Doesn't it look good? Why would he ask you not not eat something good? He must be hiding something from you. That's the reason. Now look again? Are you still sure? Look how much it resembles other delicious fruit you've eaten. If you eat it, you will be like him. The real reason, the reason He's not telling you, is He doesn't want competition. Now, look again. Are you sure? That's the invitation. It's causing us to question God's plan for our happiness. That's very important. All temptation is an invitation to question God's plan for the good life. That's the first frame in this slow motion replay. Here's the second frame. Now notice in verse 16 we have the phrase, This is the closing summary statement of the entire section. Don't be deceived. Temptation is all about deception. That's why it works. Notice that temptation is described in verse 14 as being lured (that is a fishing term). The whole goal of fishing is to trick the fish. Fisherman are deceivers. You'll never find an honest fisherman. The whole lot of em are a bunch of unethical scoundrels. Temptation is being lured, temptation is being enticed by the bait. We can't see the hook. That's deception. Without DECEPTION, the INVITATION would be declined every time. There's just no chance. Satan doesn't fish with bare hooks. Take it out of the spiritual realm. How successful would a lottery invitation be without the DECEPTION. What if every lottery ticket came with a mandatory disclosure illustrating the odds. Before we allow you to make this horrible purchasing decision we are required to help you visualize the odds. And then they show you this picture. In a typical railroad track there are 3000 railroad ties per mile. If each ties represents a ticket. You'd need a track to circle the earth four times to represent all the combinations. The fastest train in the world which travels 375mph would take ten 24 hour days to finish that track. One railroad tie wins. Okay, still want to purchase a ticket? That's fishing with bare hooks. That business goes bankrupt instantly. You have to hide the hook. You have to hide the truth to make it work? You don't show the millions of people losing you show the one person winning. And in the spiritual realm it's no different. How successful would Satan have been if he said to Eve, "Hey, I know this looks really delicious. And it will open your eyes to some things but: if you eat this, your beautiful perfect body is going to wilt and rot and sag you will be miserable and live with regret the rest of your life, you will have diabolical pain when you have a child and the entire human race will be plunged into utter ruin. Sound like a plan? So in order to make it attractive you have to hide the truth and make what is ACTUALLY horrible look TRULY beautiful. And Satan is a master at that. We are told in the Scriptures that Satan himself, the most horrible and ugly and hateful of all human beings is disguised as an angel of light. That's a pretty good disguise. That's like tricking you that a cow pie is in fact an in and out burger. You at least have to hand it to him that he's good at his craft. All sin operates on deception. Satan is like a master fly fisherman. He's got 100,000 flies at his disposal hand tied for you. And what he's trying to constantly do is trick you. He's luring you with counterfeits. Satan knows his flies. He sees what's hatching and what you might go for. He's paying attention to your weakness. He's paying attention to what you are biting on. He's observing. He's got your browser history, your phone history and he's compiling all that and hand tying deceptions casting it right in front of you so innocently to lure you into sin. Satan is a master deceiver. Don't underestimate him. Without the deception, it just doesn't work. Without the DECEPTION the INVITATION would be declined 10 times out of 10. And so one of the most fundamental ways in which the Christian fights temptation is to unravel the deception. The solution is to just expose the deception. The solution is to just look back to the truth. Expose the hook. I know that looks like a tasty chocolate chip cookie, but I don't actually want a three inch treble hook through my cheek. So, no, that does not look attractive. You break the attraction by looking at the truth. You stare at the hook and shudder. Imagine if the invitations to sin that we commonly experience were offered to us free of any deception. I'm inviting you to experience some sexual sin for a few minutes. But full disclosure here, it will cost you. It will totally destroy your marriage and shattering any trust your spouse might have. You create an impossible uphill battle for the rest of your life. You'll live in constant regret, You'll lose the respect of your kids and friends, You'll ruin your sex life, and you'll dehumanize and disrespect women? Sound like a deal? Nobody would do that? Or how about this one. Here's another invitation. I'm inviting you to work really hard to gain a bunch of wealth. I promise it will feel really good to look at that big number at the end of your life. Now in exchange for that you are going to have to miss a lot of key moments in your kids lives. And the ones you will be there for you'll only be halfway present because your mind is going to wander off to the problems at work. When you try to be there you won't have anything to say because your so uninvolved you have nothing to talk about. Your kids will probably resent you for that. Your marriage is really going to suffer because you are never going to have enough time for your wife and pretty soon she's going to resent your job and money. And of course, you'll be constantly frustrated because enough is never enough. You'll always want more. Your also going to be miserable because as your estate grows it just consumes you. Your stuff all needs maintenance and management. Of course you will really start really worrying when the markets shift because you might loose everything you worked for so you'll lose lots of sleep. And at the end of your life you will have wished you lived your life totally different. Do you see why the slow motion is so helpful. It never feels this way. You don't experience it this way. So slow it down. Remove the deception. Look at the barbed hook buried beneath that sin so attractively presented. Now how do you do this? There's one answer. Go to the Word of God. Do you realize that your mind is formed by the Word. This is why we preach. It's not just information. This is not just a lecture. I am not a professor whose goal it is to give you data that you store in your brain. We sit beneath the word of God to have it shape and form our thinking. Paul says in Romans 12: Romans 12 There are two choices. You either conform to the world or you are transformed. Conforming to the world is the default. We either think like the world or we think like God. We have to be transformed to think like God and we do that by renewing the mind. Notice when the mind is transformed it can now discern. To sift and sort out the lies of Satan and the truth of God. It's the word of God that does it folks. It's the Word of God that is at work to open the eyes. It's the Word of God that shapes the mind which then reaches the affections. The word has great impact. We are constantly engaged in a ministry of unraveling deception. A mature Christian is suspicious. He fears the craftiness of the devil. He fears the subtle tendencies of his own heart. And so he flees, and runs and shelters in the Word of God. Okay, we are going frame by frame. Invitation. Deception. Now if you don't reveal the deception, if you don't expose the lie, the next step is inevitable and unavoidable. The seed of deception will grow in the incubator of your mind. Incubation of course refers to this silent growth that happens to fertilized eggs which are placed into warm, humid environments. The egg looks like any other egg. On the outside there's really no perceptible difference. But on the inside there's this transformation that is taking place. There's a theological version of that being referenced here in the text. When the seed of deception is planted in the mind, that seed idea begins to grow and multiply. At first there's no perceptible difference. You just look at the dude on the outside and he's a dude. But there's a lie that's incubating inside. And pretty soon an action is going to hatch out of it. Notice the time element. Deception always starts as a seed. A seed of an idea is planted in the mind. At first it's just a whisper, a mere suggestion. It's just food for thought. Your just rolling it around as a theoretical concept. I'm not committing to anything. I can always pull it back. But that whisper incubates. Then it's entertained from a distance. Just observing. But it's growing in attractiveness. Then it's invited, Then it's welcomed, Then it's embraced. And then fully believed. And when something is fully believed, it becomes loved. And when something is believed and loved that is when it conceives and gives birth to action. This is why Jesus can say in the sermon on the mount that the only difference between a lustful thought and adultery is lies that have been incubated in the mind. The only difference between anger and murder is lies that have been incubated in the mind. And it's also why Robert Murray McCheyne can say: “I have discovered that the seed of every known sin is hidden in my heart.” It's merely a matter of how long the lie has been incubated in the mind. What lie? We can get even more particular about the nature of this incubated deception. Let's look at a key word at the end of verse 14 and the beginning of verse 15. Each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own DESIRE. Then that DESIRE conceives in verse 15. The key word here is desire. Remember how we talked about in Greek you have one Greek word that can mean either temptation or trial depending on the context. Well, there's another Greek word that's just like this. It's the word epithumia which can be translated either lust or desire. In fact let me illustrate this from verse 14. For example, here's a number of various translation of verse 14: Some translations have desire and others have lust. Why? The Greek language doesn't have a word for lust. Why? Because lust in their mind was just proper desire wrongly ordered, wrongly conceived. And that's the Bible's understanding as well. Good desires that become warped are lust. Good desires not submitted to God are lust. If you have to sin to get what you want, desire has turned to lust. If you sin when you don't get what you want, desire has turned to lust. So the deception that was implanted in the previous step clearly has to do with that point where DESIRE TURNS TO LUST. Do you realize that all sin is simply good desires allowed to grow such that they become disordered. So for example: The good DESIRE for delicious food can become the sin of gluttony. And the way it transforms from healthy enjoyment to sin is by believing that I need to enjoy it in ways God forbids. The seed that is implanted is the belief that God's commands to not overeat are actually limiting my joy instead of protecting it. Or let's take another one. The desire to provide for ones family becomes the sin of greed. And the way it transforms from healthy productivity to sin is by believing that God's command to prioritize your family over work and money is God limiting your joy not protecting it. - The desire to have sex in marriage becomes the soul destroying sin of pornography and adultery. And the way it transforms from healthy sexual desire to sin is by believing that God's command to have sex only in the context of marriage is God limiting your joy not protecting it. Do you see how sin is nothing more than the photographic negative of good desire. It's normal human desire not submitted to God. And the more you are preoccupied with that desire, the larger and more powerful it becomes. *The lie grows in its power and control over you.** The deception becomes large and increasingly weighty in your thinking. Almost every time my kids are caught lying, failing to obey in someway, cheating, whatever sin they are caught doing I will say to them, "You can't improve on God's plan. You thought you were trying to get some joy that God was withholding from you. But God had a plan for you joy. And that plan can't be improved upon. If you want maximum joy in life, you have to stay on that course. Don't deviate a millimeter. Any deviation from that course is sucking the joy out of your otherwise beautiful life. You are choosing misery. It's just a decision to rob yourself of joy. So slow down the action down. What's happening? Invitation. Deception. Incubation. Well we've alluded to it already, but here's the fourth frame in our slow motion frame by frame - conception. When that improper desire incubates long enough it will lead to ACTION. It gives birth to sin. Sin is CONCEIVED. Conceived sin is obvious. It comes out in our behavior. But in many ways, it's way too late. The body is just acting out the transformation that has taken place in the mind. The mind is hatching an action. The conception of sinful action merely reveals what took place long ago. There's a phrase that says, “When a man falls into adultery, he doesn't fall very far.” Which is to say, that there's been weeks and months and years of incubating wrong beliefs and lustful desires." And to illustrate what I mean by this, instead of an egg, let's imagine a grenade. Believing a lie about where happiness is to be found is like pulling a pin on grenade. At first nothing looks any different. What's the big deal in toying around with this idea. Sure I have a thought life that is harboring bitterness, or harboring jealousy or harboring worry or harboring impure thoughts or lusting after money but what's the big deal? Look at me. I'm normal. Everything basically looks and feels the same. But there's a timer ticking. That grenade is going to explode. It's just a matter of time. And when it does you won't even know what it hits you. So many men, young and old have come to me over the years with lives ripped apart by pornography and sexual sin. And every one of them has the same story. I was doing so good. Sure I struggled in the past but I felt pretty good. I felt like everything was going great. And then bam out of nowhere… what? A grenade exploded? Of course. You never exposed the lie. The affection was never broken. The lies are all still being entertained. The music you listen to the movies you watch, the shallow repentance, all of that is just planting seeds that incubate. There's no loathing for that sin. It's a pin on a grenade. The lie needs to be broken such that it looses it's attractiveness. When we are not tempted, sinfulness is dormant. But lies believed are still incubating. Sometimes sinfulness is aroused but it has no opportunity. But when opportunity meets desire. Sin is conceived. When lies are ingested and when the mind incubates them and when it conceives and gives birth to sin. When sin is practiced, then we get to the final step. Destruction. Death. Sin always leads to death. Desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death. This is the pattern of temptation folks. Always. Always. You want to know where sin leads. Walk to a graveyard. Look in a casket. DEATH. Romans 5 We talked about earlier that the best way to break the attraction of sin is to expose the hook. You have to see how ugly it is. You have to see the horror of it. Is lust worth it? Is anxiety worth it? Is greed worth it? Do you want to die? Do you want to shrivel up? Do you want your soul to become a corpse? It's not worth it. All sin leads to death. Romans 6-7 Look at someone whose under the bondage of heroine or meth. You see the body decaying, you see all the normal joy sucked out of their soul. Do they look happy? They are slaves. They are chained. They have no freedom. When they heard the warning, “Don't do drugs” they thought that was some big bad adult limiting their fun and freedom. I can handle it. But they became absolute slaves and their joy was robbed. And eventually it results in an overdose and death. There's a spiritual version of this as well. That's why we are so careful. We need to be so, so afraid. Now I know I'm not that old, but I'm old enough to form an opinion on this as I listen to people talk. There is, in my opinion, an unbelievable naivity as it regards to indwelling sin. A willful stupidity. I just look at the lifestyles of so many people who are struggling - the movies they watch, the music they ingest, the humor they laugh at - they are dancing with grenades. Young men hanging around women who are inappropriately dressed. Temptation almost always comes through the senses, mainly the eyes and the ears. So guard them. It's been my experience that when we try to get really serious about sin, even in the Christian culture, we get pushback. Why are you so uptight. Don't be legalistic. And when you bring it up, the attitude is, "Listen, I'm good. It's all going to be okay. I think, no it won't. " Listen, the narrow way isn't a way that is discovered by chance. Holiness is not accidental. Spiritually speaking sin equals death which equals no joy. I want more for my sons and daughter. I want more for you. Please, recreate in your heart a GREAT FEAR OF SIN. Satan is a master fisherman. No fish that was ever caught thought he was biting on a hook. He was deceived. And if you think you are immune to Satan's deceptions, let me just say it frankly, you are a fool. Flee to Christ. You want to know what qualities a 28" trophy trout must possess? Suspicion and fear. So be afraid. But that's not all. Create in your heart a GREAT HUNGER FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS which is the path of joy. Look at the alternative 9 verses later. Feast on the free gift. The free gift of God is life. This week was all about the fear. Next week will be all about the hunger for righteousness. Because as we are going to see next week, you can be protected against temptation yes by being convinced of the DANGER of SIN but even more powerful is being convinced of the unchanging goodness of God. Which is why James is going to go on the say, DO NOT BE DECEIVEED every good perfect gift is from above. What is the deception? The deception is God's not good. In the garden it's not his word that is being called into question. Ultimately it's his character. God's not good. That's why he's withholding. That's why this trial is upon you. That's why you are suffering. If we want to be holy, if we want to be free of the death-clutches of sin, ultimately we have to be absolutely convinced all of the time, that God is good. And how do we know that? Because he gave his son for us. That's all next week. You only got half the equation this week so please come back. Let's pray.
Last time with Jeff, we talked about the importance of studying Bible prophecy, Old Testament, and teaching the full counsel of God at our churches. Today, we talk about the American church getting back to the basics of the Gospel that saves, equipping the saints, and believers building our foundation on the authority and standard of the Word of God. We sometimes try to conform God to our decisions, rather than the other way around. In his Spiritual Exercises, Ignatius explains how we often make a means an end in itself. We need both internal and external freedom. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/god-in-all-things/support
In this week's episode, Patience Ogunbona (known as The Visionary Introverted Woman) using her own personal journey, shares some of the ways in which introverted women feel disempowered because of the pressure to conform to certain stereotypes. On discovering and realising in her early 30's that she was an introvert, Patience believed that it was something she had to overcome and cure. She walked around with a mask, pretending to be who she wasn't until she became aware that being an introvert isn't an all-or-nothing stamp on your personality. As a a Transformational Personal, Business and Leadership Coach, Patience also discusses ways in which you can be empowered to step out and step up to accomplish your goals, lead and thrive - through developing the 3 C's - courage, conviction and capacity. Episode Summary: Missy Eversole and I talk about how we can be transformed and not conformed to the world. What does conformity to the world mean? How can we avoid being conformed to the world? If you're a people pleaser, you won't want to miss her story. Quotables from the episode: The older I get, the more I realize that all I really need is Jesus. I don't need to be “Pinterest perfect.” I just need Jesus. No matter how spiritually dry you are, Jesus is waiting for you with open arms, ready to quench that thirst with the Living Water that He provides. It's not sustainable to think we can live in a Pinterest-perfect life. Conforming means we are blending in with the world when we are called to be salt and light. When we begin the transformation process, we see small results right away. If you have time to scroll on social media, we have time to read the Bible. Scripture References: Romans 12:2 ESV “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Proverbs 3:5-6 ESV “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” Recommended Resources: Transformed, not Conformed: Embracing a Life-Changing Approach to Spiritual Habits by Missy Eversole Trusting God Through Cancer 1 Trusting God Through Cancer 2 Revive & Thrive Women's Conference Subdue Stress and Anxiety: Fifteen Experts Offer Comprehensive Tools in Ten Minutes a Day. There's good news for homebuyers! I understand that affordability is being put to the test. We just saw a 44% increase in prices and a 3% increase in interest rates. We also just saw the new conforming loan limit increase to $715,000! This is HUGE! The current conforming loan limit is $647,200, meaning those homebuyers that might not qualify for a jumbo loan or need a quicker close now have the means to make it happen! Much more of the market now falls within this conforming loan limit. Along with the good news, there is some bad news. Inventory is decreasing. But let's not panic. This is seasonal. It typically starts to turn the corner in October, but we saw that much earlier with the rise in interest rates. The opportunity for homebuyers is less demand and a higher conforming loan limit. ----more---- An excerpt from this episode: So the good news for home buyers today is the ability that we do still have a decent amount of inventory today that will shrink as we head towards the end of the year. And we're going to see things change. As we see the economy go into a recession and as we see interest rates possibly stabilize and, or even go down later into 2023, as we do enter into a recession, we could see that demand pick up again, putting pressure on limited inventory and increasing home prices even further. But people keep talking about this bust. What is happening around real estate? Are we in a recession? Lawrence June said that we're in a housing recession because we've seen six months of existing home sales down; NAHB, the home builders association, is saying that we're in a housing recession because they're seeing their permits and starts down. Completions are up as they're rolling off inventory. So bad news, bad news is this inventory because as much as people are talking about a housing bubble or bust or decrease in prices, yes, we are seeing home prices. 40% of them coming off their original asking before they sell, becoming more realistic on their opportunities to sell that home, right? Not for what their neighbors sold for two months ago, but for what the market is calling for today, while we're seeing home sellers, reducing prices, we are not seeing loss in value. We are seeing those values come back in line, back towards our historic numbers. Do you know that the historical average of appreciation nationwide is 3.6%? Our average price growth here in the DMAR Metro is 6%. We've been well above that for a long time. We just put out a post yesterday that talked about the fact that even if I have a 3.9%, which is what it ticked up to 3.6 to 3.9 after 20 twenty's appreciation even higher than that after 2021. But even if we saw a 3.9% historical appreciation for the next five years, we're still talking about equity growth for homeowners over the next five years of close to $150,000 real estate is a long-term play. It is an equity opportunity that continues to be around. Knowing that short term, we've got a little opportunity to buyers to get in with a higher loan limit, to squeeze in with more inspection items possibly on that objection, right? Getting it at or below is good news for home buyers. Affordability is obviously the bad news for home buyers, but homeowners continue to have the best news. Unless you have a homeowner who's looking to sell and wants top dollar, the top dollar they could have gotten in April and don't wanna become more realistic about what the numbers look like today. That might be bad news for home sellers, but homeowners have nothing but equity gains. This world is trying to change and transform us. Recently, in this series, we have discussed the importance of seeing things through a Biblical Worldview. Many people say they believe in God but only a tiny percentage of Christians view the world from a Biblical perspective. Most people believe in God, yet the world keeps getting further and further from God. The result is a feeling of hopelessness and even division in the church. A secular worldview is one in which man attempts to solve all world problems without interference from God or God's commandments. This secular worldview is making it hard for Christians to live in the world when importance is placed on worldly things. These things were predicted in the bible and we must be biblically based in our lives. Subscribe to Our Channel! If Christians want to “join the conversation” in our culture in a way that can make a difference, they need to know what conversation they are in. But joining the conversation by conforming to the way the world thinks about things is futile. Today, David explains how evangelical leadership has led Christians into doing just that, which explains why Protestant cultural engagement has proved futile.
