161: Stop Conforming to the World Spend some time studying Romans 12:1-2. We are not to conform to the world and for ourselves. A good question to ask yourself is "What would Jesus do if He were me?". If we are anxious, overwhelmed, and hurrying - we are conforming. Transformation begins with our thoughts. How do we change the way we think? We change what we feed it everyday. Are we feeding it the world or are we feeding it God's word? How eager are you to grow and become more like Jesus? The answer to that question will tell you everything you need to know. We should have a desire to surrender, to grow, and to become more and more like Jesus. How do we transform? 1. Recognize our life is not to be all about me. 2. Our life is to be all about Him. 3. Be honest with ourselves about where we are. 4. Identify the lies we believe and exchange them with the truth of God's word. 5. Those around us should see a change in us. It could be that you need some help in identifying where you are or the lies that you are believing. Hop over to engageformore.com and check out our courses and coaching programs. When Francesca Ebel, a Russia correspondent for The Post, returned to one of Moscow's most popular nightclubs after Russia's invasion of Ukraine began, she noticed differences. The physical structure was there, but there were fewer young artists. Something had changed. What Ebel noticed that night was just one example of a bigger shift. Her reporting has since found that young Russians are increasingly embracing a culture of ultranationalist patriotism and Orthodox Christian values. Online influencers and Kremlin-sanctioned artists are changing the narratives on war and identity. An independent poll this year found a majority of Russians ages 18 to 24 support Russia's war in Ukraine. Conforming can bring rewards and career advancement. Defiance can mean jail – or worse. Today on “Post Reports,” Ebel speaks with host Elahe Izadi about her reporting inside Russia on how Putin's propaganda strategies toward Russian youth are working – and creating a new generation to carry forward the Kremlin's anti-Western ideology. Laura emphasizes the importance of authenticity, self-acceptance, and reframing our relationship with the need for approval. The episode concludes with a call to action for listeners to embrace their individuality and accept that not everyone will like them, which is essential for personal and professional success.TakeawaysThe desire to be liked is rooted in our evolutionary history.Social pain from rejection can feel similar to physical pain.Personal experiences shape our self-perception and desire for approval.Overcommitting and avoiding conflict are common consequences of wanting to be liked.Conforming to group norms can hinder entrepreneurial success.Self-criticism often stems from the desire for likability.Life is not a competition with others, but with ourselves.Accepting that not everyone will like us is liberating.Courage to face discomfort is necessary for growth.Getting your first hater can be a sign of success.Make sure to subscribe, rate and review our podcast! Growing up between Australia, Norway, and England, blending-in was an early for priority for Seb, but when a rugby accident left him with a dislocated shoulder and plenty of free time on his hands he went on an international backpacking trip that would sow the seeds for a life of exploration that he would only fully inhabit when tragedy struck. At the age of 25, Seb received a call at 2am that would change his lfie forever. After hanging up the phone that day, Seb vowed to live his life differently and not waste one more moment.Seb discovered his purpose and found true fulfillment once he gave himself permission to step out of his comfort zone and into a life of global adventure. Now, Seb's 15-year journey to complete a bucket list of epic proportions - including marrying a total stranger in Las Vegas, sitting with a death row inmate, and helping to deliver a baby - has not only changed his life and perspective forever, but has also made him a leader on a mission to inspire folks around the world to unlock the limitless possibility of their lives and complete all the goals on their own lists before it is too late.IN THIS EPISODE:[01:51] Jamie introduces Seb Terry. [05:02] Seb describes what being a “free-spirit” means to him. [06:58] Seb begins to describe his childhood and early adulthood. [09:53] Seb talks about his experience traveling the world, meeting new people, and the moment he knew it was time to return home. [12:05] Seb speaks about the heavy news he received at 25 years old that changed his perspective on life and his purpose. [18:25] Seb talks about why he has an aversion to the term “bucket-list”.[19:25] Seb recounts continuing to work through his list, leading him to visit an inmate on death-row. [26:24] Seb describes the landing of a book deal after his experience. [29:24] Seb talks about the community he built as a result of his book release. [31:33] Seb speaks about the start of his speaking career. [36:30] Seb recounts a memorable connection between two strangers that he was responsible for creating, proving his theory that people are inherently good. [39:49] Seb talks about believing in people and remaining optimistic for the future. KEY TAKEAWAYS:[27:09] Jamie and Seb discuss the perspective of not waiting until you're almost dying to pursue the experiences you want in life.[29:59] Seb describes the practice of writing a eulogy for yourself and how it can show you the personal qualities you are proud of and the ones you want to improve. [40:41] Seb explains how “Goals don't have to be world-changing”, they just have to be meaningful.************Thank you to Seb Terry for sharing your truth with us today. Harboring a lack of confidence and self worth, he blended in to most scenes unnoticed but always hoped of finding himself.Conforming to others expectations, he graduated university with a generic degree before then setting off to backpack the world on a shoestring budget, drifting. A few years into his travels he received a call in the middle of the night; one of his childhood friends, Chris, had tragically passed away. This was the moment Seb realized everything needed to change.Grabbing a pen and paper, Seb began to write the list of things that he hoped would propel him towards a sense of happiness and purpose in life. This list took the shape of 100 things and it would go on to transform his life forever. Now 15 years on, Seb's journey has not only changed his own life, but has gone on to change (and even save) the lives of many people around the world. Based in LA, California, Seb blends masterful storytelling with unique insights and comedy to help individuals and organizations leverage passion as a driving force for mental health, connection and transformation.Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands

Welcome back to Making Bank! Today's episode we have Andre Swanston, a dynamic tech innovator and media magnet, recently made history with the fifth largest exit of any Black CEO. A regular contributor to Bloomberg, Rolling Stone, and Fast Company, Andre's insights have made waves across the industry. Born in the Bronx, New York, he honed his exceptional sales skills at Ameriprise and J.P. Morgan Chase before earning a B.A. in Economics from the University of Connecticut. Today, Andre is here to share some exciting insights and experiences from his remarkable journey.   (2:03) Background Story From a young age, Andre Swanston embraced a mindset that set him apart. Conforming never interested him; instead, he sought different approaches to everything, from tying his shoelaces to solving math problems in unique ways. This natural inclination to think differently laid the foundation for his entrepreneurial journey.   (8:17) First Steps In A Business The first crucial step in any business venture is recognizing your strengths and weaknesses. Once you have that clarity, the key is to surround yourself with people who excel in areas where you may not.   (12:24) Stepping Stones Three key moments shaped the company's journey: raising initial capital in 2014 to hire the first team, securing major enterprise deals in 2017 as connected TV gained traction, and anticipating competition from industry giants, which guided our successful execution strategy.   (16:27) The Future Of Digital Ads In the future of digital ads, impartiality and trust are key. As data privacy and regulations tighten, partnering with a neutral third party ensures transparent and compliant data analysis, avoiding conflicts of interest from media or device companies. This approach helps navigate industry challenges and build a reliable foundation for the evolving ad landscape.   (19:12) Selling A Company When preparing to sell a company, focus on securing multi-year contracts. These contracts significantly increase your company's valuation, often yielding a higher revenue multiple compared to one-time deals. Understanding this can strategically position your business for a more lucrative sale.   (21:31) Growing A Business When growing a business, maximize what you can do without external capital. This gives you control and flexibility to pivot and adapt early on, allowing for smoother growth before bringing in outside investors. It also demonstrates commitment and resilience to potential investors.   (26:19) Motivation The most important advice for entrepreneurs is to trust your instincts and understand your motivations. Your unique life experiences shape your perspective, and leveraging these insights is crucial. Remember, entrepreneurship is tough and success often comes from sheer ambition and perseverance, not from any inherent superiority.   Tags: Instagram: Andre Swanston @dreswan06

In the sixth episode of "Identity Theft," Duane Sheriff teaches on the critical issue of identity confusion, emphasizing the importance of understanding one's true identity in Christ. Satan targets people's identities to disrupt God's purpose for their lives, which leads to unprecedented levels of confusion prevalent in our society today, especially among young people.Christians need to teach their children about their God-given identity, including their gender as created by God. In Genesis 1:26-28 and Mark 10, Jesus affirms that God created humans male and female. Conforming to worldly identities contradicts one's new identity in Christ, citing Romans 12:2: "And be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind."Psalm 139 tells us that God created us in our mother's womb, and Genesis 1:26-28, reminds us that God made humans in His image, male and female. Identity confusion is not a new tactic of Satan but seems to be at an all-time high in today's culture. Many people live their lives under a false identity or an imposed identity, which can hinder God's purpose for their lives. There are various forms of false identities, including imposed identities from family or society and the dangers of identity politics that divide people based on race, gender, or sexual orientation. Romans 12:2 shows how we need to renew our minds to avoid being conformed to the world but be transformed by discovering and living out God's will for us. Believers should reject these worldly classifications and instead embrace their spiritual identity in Christ.

Then, should Christians embrace the spiritual uses of psychedelic drugs? Megan Basham's new book claims progressive powerbrokers have corrupted evangelical leaders with money, praise, and prestige, but many of her citations are being called into question. Which evangelical leaders are really being seduced by money? Then former Congressman, Adam Kinzinger, sits down with Skye to talk about the relationship between Christianity and the Republican Party, what comes after Trump, and the outsized role of fear in our politics 0:00 - Intro   1:40 - Show Starts   4:06 - Theme Song   4:26  - Sponsor - Sundays Dog Food - Get 40% off your first order of Sundays.
