We lead this episode with a modern day J.League classic under the lights at Hitachidai on Saturday night, when visiting Sapporo triumphed 5-4 over Kashiwa (to 16:20), before welcoming Sean Galbraith back to the pod to discuss Yokohama F.Marinos winning away at FC Tokyo earlier on Saturday (to 45:00) and Ange Postecoglou's move to Tottenham - will the Australian take any of his Celtic Japanese contingent with him to London, and what does the move mean for other Japanese players eyeing a move to Scotland (to 1:02:05)? Finally in Part 3 we review the rest of the weekend's top flight action, and look ahead to the weekend when we'll wrap up the first half of the season.
As the second part of our look into zoning battles and density debates in Toronto and Ontario, I think you'll find John's interview with urban planning expert Sean Galbraith extremely useful. Sean is an urban planner who assists clients in procuring planning permissions as President of Sean Galbraith & Associates Urban Planning Services in Toronto. Toronto City Council has recently voted to allow for the building of fourplexes across Toronto, opening up the so-called 'yellow belt' to allow for more housing density. John talks to Sean about what's involved in building a fourplex, what impact the recent policy change will have on this process and how much this change will actually help Toronto deal with its overall housing affordability crisis. A slow week ahead of the Olympics starting? Well Celtic, Kobe and Kyogo Furuhashi put paid to any plans we had for a cruisy episode by dropping their transfer bombshell on Friday morning, and Sean Galbraith joined us for Part 1 in which we discuss Furuhashi's move to link up with Ange Postecoglou and how he might fit in at Parkhead. We then move on to some Yokohama F.Marinos transfer news - that Sean is slightly less excited about - with Ado Onaiwu looking set for a move to France, and 2019 J1 Player of the Year Teruhito Nakagawa possibly heading to Kobe to attempt to fill Furuhashi's boots (to 30:39). In Part 2 Alex Bishop makes a very welcome return to the pod to chat about the key players, youngsters to watch, and overall medal prospects for Asako Takakura's Nadeshiko Japan side in Tokyo 2020, while we also chat about the makeup of the squads for the other three teams in Japan's group in the men's Under 24 Olympic football tournament (to 1:01:38). Then finally in Part 3 we review the four J1 games played on Saturday, with mixed results for the returning ACL clubs.
It's one of the biggest items of J.League news in the past decade - Yokohama F.Marinos boss Ange Postecoglou seemingly set to take over in the dugout at Celtic Park, and joining us to talk about his thoughts on the potential move, the reaction from both sets of supporters and what it might mean for both F.Marinos and Celtic going forward, is Sean Galbraith, who has a foot in both camps as a supporter of both clubs. After Part 1 (which runs to 1:17:32), we take a whirlwind tour of the top flight, rounding up all ten J1 games from the weekend's Matchday 17.
Supporters were allowed back into J.League stadiums over the weekend, and we went right to the source, with two (well, three actually) of them joining Sam and Ben: Kawasaki correspondent Neil Debnam, who watched Frontale beat Kashiwa at Todoroki on Saturday night; and our Yokohama F.Marinos man Stuart Woodward (with a cameo from Sean Galbraith), who was at the Nissan Stadium on Sunday for the visit of FC Tokyo. Part 1 with Neil on what it was like to be at Todoroki, and Kawasaki's fruitful week runs to 39:29, then Sam and Ben discuss joint table toppers Urawa's home win over struggling Kashima. Stuart pops on from 44:35, then from the 1:19:10 mark Ben and Sam conclude the Matchday 4 wrap with away wins for Nagoya and Gamba Osaka over Cerezo Osaka and Shimizu respectively, and the draws at Oita, Yokohama FC, Shonan and Tosu.

This week Matthew Slutsky (Founder and President of BuzzBuzzHome) and Ara Mamourian (Founder and Broker at TheSpringTeam.ca) sit with Sean Galbraith of Galbraith & Associates Inc and Emerich Kaspar, Architect at Standard Practice to talk Mid-Rise. Mid-Rise is not often talked about and extremely hard to build in an ever expanding metropolis like Toronto. As construction costs rise and NIMBYism delays projects, more and more developers are forced to go high-rise to make their projects viable. Will we see more mid-rise in our residential communities?
Sean Galbraith is President of Galbraith & Associates, a boutique urban planning firm in Toronto, specializing in small projects. Sean speaks the language of planning. Sean has over 20 years' experience as an urban planner. Sean's career has primarily been focused in the private sector, where he has worked on a wide variety of residential development applications. He also provides planning advice to community groups and others. In my interview with Sean, we discuss how a city's policies around urban planning influences the type of homes that are built, what could cities be doing better from an urban planning standpoint to help make real estate more affordable and what could all levels of government be doing to help put shovels in the ground faster for new homes.
Guest Speaker: Sean Galbraith, Principle & Owner of Galbraith & Associates • What does the City of Toronto mean by secondary suites? • Why are secondary suites important? • His thoughts on the city looking at the secondary suite issue and boundaries the city has set • His thoughts on parking requirements • What is the front wall restriction? • Advice on building secondary suites
In this episode, we take you to the Ten Year Tent City in Vancouver, where residents are protesting the lack of affordable housing in that city. Andrew Walsh reports. And we speak to recent Ryerson planning grad Cheryll Case and her mentor, planner/consultant Sean Galbraith, about a report Case co-authored which examines the declining household size of the inner suburbs and its impact. Finally, we speak to Toronto City Councillor Joe Cressy, about how to balance priorities between the need for new greenspace in the downtown, with the sorry state of Toronto's community housing stock.
Is hosting your own photoblog a good idea? In this episode we take a look at a few advantages and disadvantages.
