In this powerful and wide-ranging conversation, Margaret Kimberley—senior columnist at Black Agenda Report and a leader in Black Alliance for Peace—joins Breht to dissect the spectacle of American decline and, as usual, Kimberley offers a razor-sharp analysis of late-stage capitalism's collapse into cruelty, chaos, and confusion. Together, they explore the Democratic Party's complicity in ushering in this moment, U.S. weapons transfers to Ukraine in support of their proxy war against Russia, and the genocidal assault on Gaza as a revealing - if disturbing - lens into the true nature of the American empire. Kimberley also shares firsthand insights from delegations to Nicaragua, Venezuela, and China, illuminating how the Global South is resisting U.S. domination and reshaping global power. For those feeling the weight of worsening economic conditions, rising fascism, and political demobilization, Kimberley offers hard-won wisdom about organizing in the belly of the beast. We close with discussion about where real hope can still be found. The conversation begins with a lighthearted celebration of JJ Spaun's stunning 64-foot putt and a heartfelt Father's Day moment with his family—but quickly shifts into a scathing political commentary. The hosts unpack alleged overreach by the Biden administration, censorship, politicized law enforcement, and illegal immigration enforcement double standards. They criticize paid protest tactics, media misinformation, and President Trump's recent policy reversals on illegal immigration raids—arguing the left has won through violence and pressure. What starts as a discussion of sports and family ends in a fiery call to defend the Constitution from both political parties.

Co-hosts Cathy Endebrock, Kerri Brinkoeter, and Marlene McMichael discuss key points of the message Dr. Robert Jeffress presented at the Governor's Prayer Breakfast at Kalahari Resort in April. Specifically, as Christians, we must have a plan for what Jesus has asked us to do. We have a savings plan for college tuition and/or for retirement in order to have the necessary resources when needed. In much the same way, we must have a deliberate plan to do God's work. He calls us to be both salt (flavoring the fallen world with His Spirit) AND light (shining His light in the darkness). How much time do you have left? That's a question we rarely want to face, but it's one that brings clarity and urgency to how we live. Life is fragile, unpredictable, and fleeting—like a tent that wears out, sags, and eventually must be taken down. Paul, writing to the Corinthians, understood this deeply. He endured suffering, near-death experiences, and relentless hardship, yet he remained resilient. Why? Because he fixed his eyes not on what is temporary, but on what is eternal. He knew that the pain and pressure of this life are real, but they are not the end of the story. Instead, they are forging us, shaping us into the image of Christ, and preparing us for something far greater.Paul's perspective was anchored in the resurrection of Jesus. Because Jesus conquered death, everything changes. Our grief is real, but it is not hopeless. Our bodies are breaking down, but an upgrade is coming—a permanent, glorified body, handcrafted by God Himself. This world, with all its groaning and brokenness, is not our home. It's a tent, not a house. The longing we feel, the ache for things to be made right, is not despair but hope—a groaning for what God has promised. In the meantime, we are not left alone. The Holy Spirit is God's guarantee, His earnest deposit, that what He has promised will come to pass. We live in the “already, not yet”—forgiven, adopted, and empowered now, but still waiting for the fullness of what's to come. Every day, every second ticking by, is not just time running out, but time drawing us closer to Jesus. Our heavenly focus fuels our earthly faithfulness. We are called to live with purpose, to use our time, talents, and treasures for things that last, knowing that one day we will stand before Christ—not for condemnation, but for evaluation. The most important question is: Are you ready? Do you know Jesus as your Savior? Are you living to please Him, or just yourself? The seconds are ticking. As I delve into the intricacies of Project 2025, a sense of unease settles in, not just because of the far-reaching implications it holds for American governance, but also due to the sheer ambition and controversial nature of its proposals. This initiative, spearheaded by conservative organizations and thinkers, aims to fundamentally reshape the federal government, centralizing power in the White House and challenging long-standing principles of checks and balances. At the heart of Project 2025 is the unitary executive theory, an expansive interpretation of presidential power that seeks to place the entire executive branch under direct presidential control. This vision is not new; it has roots in the Reagan administration and has been bolstered by conservative justices, the Federalist Society, and the Heritage Foundation. However, the current iteration takes this concept to unprecedented heights. As Kevin Roberts, a key proponent, has stated, all federal employees should answer directly to the president, eliminating the independence of agencies like the Department of Justice, the FBI, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC)[4].One of the most striking aspects of Project 2025 is its plan for the Department of State. Kiron Skinner, who authored the State Department chapter, advocates for the dismissal of all leadership roles within the department before January 20, 2025. These positions would be filled by ideologically vetted leaders appointed to acting roles, bypassing the need for Senate confirmation. Skinner's rationale is stark: she believes most State Department employees are too left-wing and need to be replaced by those more loyal to a conservative president. When questioned about specific instances where State Department employees obstructed Trump policies, Skinner admitted she could not provide any examples[4].This approach is not isolated to the State Department. Project 2025 targets the independence of various federal agencies, which have historically operated with a degree of autonomy to ensure they are not swayed by political whims. Agencies like the FCC, FTC, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) are designed to be quasi-legislative or quasi-judicial bodies, shielded from presidential interference by bipartisan commissions. The Supreme Court has upheld this independence in landmark cases such as *Humphrey's Executor v. United States*[5].However, Project 2025 seeks to overrule such precedents, allowing the president to remove independent agency commissioners at will if they do not align with the president's agenda. This would fundamentally alter the balance of power, giving the president unprecedented control over these agencies. The White House's Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) would also be empowered to review, revise, or block rules and significant guidance issued by these agencies, further eroding their independence[5].The potential implications of these changes are profound. By centralizing power and dismantling the checks and balances that have long defined American governance, Project 2025 could lead to what critics describe as an "imperial presidency." This would enable a president to implement policies with minimal oversight, potentially undermining democratic norms and the rule of law. As the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has noted, such a reconfiguration of executive power would have immense and far-reaching consequences, particularly if it aligns with the re-election of a president like Donald Trump[1].The plan also includes significant workforce reductions, with estimates suggesting up to 1 million federal workers could be terminated. This would not only decimate the federal workforce but also severely impact the functioning of various government agencies, leading to potential inefficiencies and gaps in public services[2].As I reflect on the scope and ambition of Project 2025, it becomes clear that this initiative represents a seismic shift in how the federal government could operate. The stated goals of its proponents—greater efficiency and alignment with conservative ideologies—mask a more profound challenge to the foundational principles of American democracy.Looking ahead, the next few months will be crucial. As the 2024 elections approach, the fate of Project 2025 will likely be tied to the outcome. If a president sympathetic to these proposals is elected, the stage could be set for a dramatic overhaul of the federal government. The tracking of executive action proposals by organizations like the Center for Progressive Reform will be essential in monitoring the implementation of these plans and their impact on workers, agencies, and the broader public[3].In the end, Project 2025 serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing debate about the role of the executive branch in American governance. Whether this initiative succeeds or fails, it underscores the importance of vigilant oversight and the need to protect the checks and balances that have long safeguarded American democracy. As we move forward, it is imperative that we remain informed and engaged, ensuring that any reforms to our government align with the principles of transparency, accountability, and the public good.

I once did a deep dive into the commandments, teachings, pillars, rules—whatever label the world's major religions gave their moral codes. I read through the Bible, the Quran, the Torah, the Tao Te Ching, Buddhist teachings, even some tribal belief systems. All of them had different flavors, rituals, and stories—but when you strip away the incense, the robes, the chants, and the translations, guess what the core message boiled down to? Don't. Be. A. Dick. That's it. That's the thesis. Don't lie, don't steal, don't kill, don't screw people over, don't act like the center of the damn universe. Be kind, help others, say thank you once in a while, and if you screw up—own it. You don't need a theology degree or enlightenment from a mountain monk to grasp this. But here's the real kicker: it's simple, not easy. Ego gets loud. Pride gets in the way. Fear and anger turn people into walking middle fingers. And before you know it, you've become the very jackass you swore you weren't. “Don't be a dick” is more than a joke or a bumper sticker—it's a code. It's the real golden rule without all the religious fluff. Live it, and the world gets a little less stupid. Ignore it, and congratulations, you're part of the problem. So yeah, whether you're quoting scripture or just trying to not be the worst part of someone's day, remember this: all the sacred texts pretty much agree—just don't be a dick.

Decay is a natural process. It breaks down structures, so that new ones can form. Decay is also the attenuation of a sound over time. Bearing this in mind, it is also the name of a new work I'm pleased to share with you, from my strictly instrumental project, Sleeping Animal. Here I step away from his my field recording gear in an effort to evoke nature with instruments alone. Electric piano holds the center, while a blurred mix of synthesizers, vocals and ambient strings fill out the mix. The composition unfurls, loosening and coalescing many times over its short runtime of 14 minutes. Is it an album or an EP? What is a song, really? I sometimes ask myself. Maybe I'm just at a point in my life where the song as a structure is both less appealing and penetrating as it once was, on both the listening and composing side. Decay is tenuous and exploratory; a string of impressions, a meandering of attention akin to what one feels when walking along a trail. No verse, chorus, bridge here. It's more about flow and sequence. I'm interested in mirroring structures in nature, inscrutable at the glance, but held in exquisite tension. Decay by Sleeping Animal is available on all music streaming platforms today, Friday, April 25th.Thank you for you for listening and reading. If something brings you enjoyment, please share my work with one other person. Word-of-mouth is fundamental to my ability to persevere. The monochrome cover art photo was taken while hiking the Wildwood Trail recently, which played an important role in refining aesthetic decisions for Sleeping Animal releases, both musically and visually. This post goes into that. This is a public episode. If you'd like to discuss this with other subscribers or get access to bonus episodes, visit chadcrouch.substack.com/subscribe

Happy Friday Everyone! Per usual, some of this week's updates might sound like science fiction, but they're all very real, and they're all shaping how we work, think, and live. From luxury AI agents to cognitive offloading, celebrity space travel, and extinct species revival, we're at a very interesting crossroads between innovation and intentionality while trying to make sure we don't burn it all down. With that, let's get to it!OpenAI's $20K/Month AI Agent - A new tier of OpenAI's GPT offering is reportedly arriving soon, but it won't be for your average consumer. Clocking in at $20,000/month this is a premium offering to say the least. It's marketed as PhD-level and capable of autonomous research in advanced disciplines like biology, engineering, and physics. It's a move away from democratizing access and seems to widening the gap between tech haves and have-nots.AI is Causing Cognitive Decay - A journalist recently had a rude awakening when he started recognizing ChatGPT left him unable to write simple messages without help. Sound extreme? It's not. I unpack the rising data on cognitive offloading and the subtle danger of letting machines doing our thinking for us. Now, to be clear, this isn't about fear mongering. It's about using AI intentionally while keeping your human skills sharp.Blue Origin's All-Female Space Crew - Bezos' Blue Origin made headlines by launching an all-female celebrity crew into space, and it definitely made the headlines, but many weren't positive. Is this really societal progress, a PR stunt, or somewhere in between? I explore the symbolism, the potential, and the complexity behind these headline-grabbing stunts as well as what they say about our cultural priorities. The Revival of the Dire Wolf - Headlines say scientists have brought a species back from extinction. Have people not seen Jurassic Park?! Seriously though, is this really the ancient dire wolf, or have we created a genetically modified echo? I dig into the science, the hype, and the deeper question of, “just because we can bring something back… should we?”Let me know which story grabbed you most in the comments—and if you're asking different questions now than before you listened. That's the goal.Show Notes:In this Weekly Update, Christopher covers a range of topics including the launch of OpenAI's GPT-4.5 model and its potential implications, the dangers of AI-related cognitive decay and dependency, the environmental and societal impacts of Blue Origin's recent all-female celebrity space trip, and the ethical considerations of de-extincting species like the dire wolf. Discover insights and actionable advice for navigating these complex issues in the rapidly evolving tech landscape.00:00 - Introduction and Welcome00:47 - Upcoming AI Course Announcement02:16 - OpenAI's New PhD-Level AI Model14:55 - AI and Cognitive Decay Concerns25:16 - Blue Origin's All-Female Space Mission35:47 - The Ethics of De-Extincting Animals46:54 - Concluding Thoughts on Innovation and Ethics#OpenAI #AIAgent #BlueOrigin #AIEthics #DireWolfRevival
In the contemporary world, ruins, rubble, and decaying material have become increasingly iconic landscapes. They can foster a more layered theory of time, change and memory. The seven ethnographic case studies in Haunting Ruins (Berghahn Books, 2025) trace human engagements with the temporal forces of ruins, which can trace the past and transform the present. Conjuring environmental humanities, the anthropology of history, memory studies, and archaeology, this fascinating new edited volume delves into the complex influence of the past on the present and the future and urges scholars to consider ruins as things to think with. Valentina Gamberi is a MSCA-CZ Postdoctoral Fellow at the Palacký University Olomouc. She is an anthropologist focusing on material culture studies, museum and heritage studies, with a foundation in religious studies and material religion. She has conducted fieldwork in several European museums and, since 2017, in Taiwan. SpaceTime Series 28 Episode 42The Astronomy, Space and Science News PodcastUnraveling Antimatter Mysteries, New Techniques to Detect Dark Matter, and Insights into the Spectrum Rocket FailureIn this episode of SpaceTime, we dive into groundbreaking discoveries at the Large Hadron Collider, where physicists have identified a significant difference in the decay behaviors of ordinary matter and antimatter. This finding could provide vital clues to understanding why our universe is dominated by matter despite the Big Bang's creation of equal amounts of both. We explore the implications of these results and how they align with the Standard Model of particle physics.Innovative Approaches to Dark Matter DetectionNext, we discuss an innovative new technique developed by researchers at the University of Queensland to detect dark matter using atomic clocks and cavity-stabilized lasers. This cutting-edge approach aims to uncover the elusive nature of dark matter, which constitutes about 80% of the universe yet remains largely a mystery. We examine how this method could lead to new insights into the distribution and properties of dark matter.Spectrum Rocket Launch Failure InvestigationAdditionally, we analyze the recent failure of the Spectrum rocket during its inaugural launch from Norway. Investigators are looking into the causes of the incident, which involved thrust vectoring oscillations leading to the rocket's loss of control. We discuss potential technical issues and what this means for future European orbital launches.00:00 Space Time Series 28 Episode 42 for broadcast on 7 April 202500:49 Discovery of decay differences between matter and antimatter06:30 Implications for understanding the universe's matter dominance12:15 New techniques for detecting dark matter18:00 Using atomic clocks for dark matter research22:45 Analysis of the Spectrum rocket failure27:00 Summary of recent scientific developments30:15 Science report: Southern Ocean warming impactswww.spacetimewithstuartgary.comwww.bitesz.com
