Send us Fan MailFor a long time, freshwater experts thought of estuaries as just "the end of the river," while marine biologists dismissed them as "the bit where the sea comes in." But today, scientists realize that estuaries are incredibly complex, dynamic ecosystems in their own right. In this episode of the Nature Recovery Podcast, Stephen is joined by world-renowned estuarine and coastal science expert, Professor Mike Elliott. They explore the fascinating, constantly fluctuating world of estuaries, the vital "ecotones" where rivers meet the sea.Professor Elliott explains the "triple whammy" of pressures facing global coastlines, the difference between contamination and pollution, and introduces the concept of the "Emerald Economy." He also breaks down the DAPSI(W)R(M) framework for solving complex environmental challenges, proving that when we relieve the pressures on these dynamic systems, nature can, and does, bounce back.Key Topics Covered:What actually makes an estuary an ecosystem in its own right? The "Estuarine Quality Paradox" and how organisms survive extreme environmental stress.Understanding the "Emerald Economy": Ecosystem services vs. Societal goods and benefits. The "Triple Whammy" threatening our coasts: industrialization, resource depletion, and climate change.Incredible recovery stories: How the dead Thames and Clyde estuaries were brought back to life. The DAPSI(W)R(M) framework: A roadmap for balancing human needs with natural systems.Resources:Learn more about Professor Mike Elliott's work at the University of Hull and IECS Limited. The Leverhulme Centre for Nature Recovery is interested in promoting a wide variety of views and opinions on nature recovery from researchers and practitioners. The views, opinions and positions expressed within this podcast are those of the speakers alone, they do not purport to reflect the opinions or views of the Leverhulme Centre for Nature Recovery, or its researchers. The work of the Leverhulme Centre for Nature Recovery is made possible thanks to the support of the Leverhulme Trust.

You know what nobody talks about? That the things most likely to dissolve you are not the hard seasons. They are the great ones. The man who is everything. The circle you always wanted. The money, the success, the life that finally looks the way you always imagined it. And somewhere inside all of that, without a single moment you can point to, you become someone slightly different, and you do not notice until you need to come home to yourself and cannot find the address. This episode is for the woman in the middle of something good who wants to make sure she comes out of it still herself. We get into why women are socialized to be porous, what the difference between growth and erosion actually looks like from the inside, and the practice that keeps you rooted no matter what season you are in. The Kennedys are the entry point. Your center of gravity is the destination. Tools and stories to help you choose yourself in a world that socializes you not to. I'm curious, have you ever felt a presence, a nudge, or a knowing that someone you love is still with you? One of my biggest takeaways? Love is the bridge. Always. Leave a comment, question, or whatever is on your heart—I truly love hearing from you. Your intuition is always speaking… the question is, are you hearing it? If you're feeling called to deepen that connection, join me for my free masterclass with The Shift Network ✨ Save your spot here Takeaways Mediums are both born and made. Children often connect with spirits without realizing it. Grief can interrupt our connection with spirits. Love is the frequency that connects us to the spirit world. Gratitude opens the door to spiritual connections. We are all part of a larger spiritual entourage. The spirits want to connect with us even more than we realize. Living in the present moment is key to connecting with spirits. Our loved ones in spirit are always with us, even if we can't feel them. We have the power to bring love to unloving places. Send us Fan MailThis is a discussion of the historic context of this war, plus some thoughts on the strategic issues involved. Note: At one point I referred to the end of the Gulf War when I meant to say the end of World War II. Note: At this point (March 17) opposition to the war is about 53-41. Republicans are very supportive, Democrats opposed. The general pattern in public opinion, is that whenever your country goes to war, you support it, but then support falls off very quickly within a month or so. By 51-29 Americans think the war has made us less safe.

You didn't miss the signs. The signs were engineered to look like everything you'd been waiting for. The attention that felt like finally being seen. The intensity that felt like passion. The rush to commitment that felt like destiny. None of it was accidental. This episode traces how coercive control relationships are constructed — from love bombing through escalation to the invisible cage — using the McKee-Tepe timeline as the case study. From courtship photos that showed a normal, happy couple to an alleged seven-month collapse, we examine what changes once the commitment is secured and the performance is no longer necessary. The dual identity of a publicly accomplished surgeon and an allegedly abusive partner. The micro-adjustments that turn care into control. And why "you should have seen the red flags" is the most useless sentence in domestic violence — because red flags only exist in hindsight. The signs weren't missed. They were disguised. This episode is for anyone still blaming themselves for not seeing what was designed to stay hidden.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? The darkness must be transmuted to light. Not avoided. Transmuted. My dad told me he was trapped in the prison of his own mind—one of the most torturous things humans put themselves through. But here's what nobody tells you: if you were handed everything you ever wanted right now, you'd enjoy it for six months, maybe a year, then realize it was handed to you. You didn't work for it. You wouldn't want your destiny handed to you. You wouldn't.When you're caught in a riptide, you can't force yourself back to shore. You swim horizontal, wait it out, be patient. Bamboo stays underground 10x longer than it grows visible. That's the transmutation—feeling the depths to convert stored energy. When forgotten trauma surfaces? That's a healthy sign. Keep doing what you're doing. Compounding works for and against you. Light compounds. Dark compounds. This episode reveals why forcing creates energetic blockages, how to transmute unconscious pain through integrity and presence, and the power of feeling the depths. The individual creates the world. You are another and another is you. Listen if you're ready to stop forcing and start transmuting.New episodes out every Monday and Thursday at 10 AM Eastern TimeGet The Book - https://go.justinegliskis.com/The Greek God Physique Strategy Session - https://calendly.com/egliskiscapital/greek-god-physique-strategy-callJoin 497+ https://signup.justinegliskis.com/Email egliskis@pm.me to get in contact with meDiscover a podcast designed for entrepreneurs and solopreneurs navigating the challenges of entrepreneurship, offering insights on stress management, health and wellness, and overcoming imposter syndrome, while emphasizing work-life balance, energy alignment, and inner peace; explore topics like burnout recovery, business automation, scaling a business, business growth strategies, client management, mental resilience, overcoming anxiety, and achieving clearer thinking for sustainable success, using the blade of awareness, solving emotional dysfunction and unveiling the trickster within. This week, I talk with Mark Manson—best known for The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck—about what success really costs and why it often leaves us wanting more. Mark and I go deeper than I've heard him go before: we explore his upbringing, the complex role faith and community have played in his life, and how he's learned to follow his internal compass—even when it meant walking away from huge opportunities. After climbing to the top of the publishing world and getting a taste of Hollywood, Mark has returned to where he started: creating online for the joy of it. This conversation is about more than career moves—it's about identity, meaning, and the choices that define a thoughtful life. If you've ever achieved a big goal and asked, “Now what?”—this one's for you. Let's get to it. In this episode: (00:00) – Intro (02:32) – The golden egg mindset that changed Mark's career (04:49) – Lessons from a “high-volatility” childhood (09:46) – Mark's secret to depth (and viral hits) (13:51) – Losing faith—and what Mark misses most (17:58) – The loneliness no success can solve (28:09) – What real friendship looks like (31:19) – How to go deeper with the people who matter (36:51) – What happens after success? (41:47) – Chasing Hollywood—and hitting a wall (45:38) – Why Mark turned away from traditional media (49:23) – The lingering pull of prestige and the trap of status (50:48) – Why Mark is still in LA—and what he found there (51:40) – How to know what to say yes to (and what to walk away from) (56:27) – What Mark is optimizing for today (59:02) – The one thing Mark wants to be excellent at (01:02:35) – The “shit sandwich” Mark's happy to eat (01:03:58) – Turning down a seven-figure book deal (01:18:28) – YouTube vs writing (01:21:34) – How much thought goes into Mark's content (01:25:04) – Is the business sustainable? (01:27:03) – Reinventing the podcast—again (01:33:19) – Mark's most beautiful future (01:36:33) – Who Mark is becoming Key Takeaways Be the goose, not the egg hunter. Rather than chasing after “golden eggs” of success, become the kind of person who can generate them consistently. Mark's father taught him that real security and fulfillment come from developing your own capacity to create value again and again—not from trying to protect or hoard what you've already made. Choose depth over status when building community. Mark reflects on how true community—like that found in religious, family, or workplace settings—is built on commitment and shared legacy. Recreational groups and hobbies, while enjoyable, often lack the deeper sense of belonging. If you're feeling lonely or disconnected, consider what you're willing to commit to. Build a life that prioritizes fun over status. After years of high-profile projects and burnout, Mark realized that chasing prestige wasn't worth the cost. His new rule: if it's not fun, he doesn't do it. With success comes more invitations to chase status—but the most fulfilled people are those who stay grounded in what brings them joy and meaning. Don't confuse cultural clout with real impact. Despite already having a massive online audience, Mark admits being drawn to traditional media for its perceived prestige. He ultimately found that building directly with his audience—via his creator business and YouTube—was more rewarding and impactful. Recognition is nice, but it shouldn't dictate your creative choices. The best relationships are honest, non-transactional, and earned through time. Deep friendships grow through vulnerability, shared values, and a willingness to say the hard thing. In a world increasingly shaped by status, the relationships that matter most are built on trust, not utility. Get full show notes and links at https://GoodWorkShow.com. But when did people first embrace the idea of the nation state? Is nationalism predominantly a right-wing creed? And does it thrive during periods of crisis and uncertainty? In this Everything You Wanted To Know episode, Danny Bird puts these questions and others submitted by our listeners to John Hutchinson. But what exactly was the Commune? How did this revolutionary government function? And why was it crushed with such vigour? Speaking to Danny Bird, historian David A Shafer answers listener questions on this extraordinary moment in French history.
