You know them from being blacklisted from the Bulgarian podcast charts. You know them from leading the boards in Estonia. And third most likely, you know them from their podcast Too Beautiful to Live! This week Lindy West and Meagan Hatcher-Mays sit down with Luke Burbank and Andrew Walsh for round two of their crossover series, and Lindy did NOT have to frantically Google their names and bios during the recording this time. Our tidings are full of bad pans and youth-infested homes. Lindy's deep dive into her daughter's weekend stay at their cabin leads to a detective-worthy investigation, while Meagan's love for the Olympics turns her into a proud violently patriotic American

This week… People can't stop yelling at Washington State Ferries employees because the ferry system is in rough shape. Complaints of crowd crush at Capitol Hill Block Party overshadowed what was supposed to be a fun weekend. And what's the phrase? Nothing is certain but death and taxes. Here in Seattle, we can add a Mariners implosion to the list. The Ms coughed up a playoff spot in record time. We are joined by Marketta Vuola from University of Helsinki's Global Development Studies. In this conversation Marketta gives us insight into the work that she is doing in her doctoral research. She started her academic career interested in conservation and national parks, but during her field work she kept running into gold mining and its role in the rural areas of Madagascar. Marketta gives insight into what artisanal means on the ground in Madagascar, which is not a simple thing to define as there is wide range of practices that fall under this designation. The scale she investigates is quite small scale and overturns the masculine stereotype of mining because it is often an activity that involves whole families. There are approximately 700000 artisanal miners, and it is the second most popular source of income after subsistence agriculture. Marketta opens some of the dynamics that surround the complicated relationship between mining, conservation, and violence in Madagascar. Interested in the book Marketta mentioned? Back in 1986, Cleveland was trying to make a new name for itself with a huge, record-breaking balloon launch. The goal was to increase the population, raise money for the community, and make Clevelanders proud. By the end, fingers would be blistered, horses traumatized, a search and rescue mission thwarted, and the good people of Cleveland would be facing an environmental disaster of their own making...yet again.Podcast hosts Luke Burbank and Andrew Walsh (Too Beautiful to Live) join Misha to string together the details of Cleveland's failed Balloonfest of '86.Follow The Big Flop on the Wondery app or wherever you get your podcasts. Local coffee shop "Local Coffee Spot" (yes, that's it's name) is being sued by the Space Needle. Well, not the needle itself, but the company that owns it. Why? Its logo looks a bit too much like the famous Seattle landmark.Luke Burbank and Andrew Walsh, co-hosts of the podcast Too Beautiful To Live, dug into it on a recent episode of their show. We're sharing the conversation on today's episode.Subscribe to TBTL in your favorite podcast app.

Radio consultants Genevieve Haas and Andrew Walsh, hired by Gene to whip the morning show into shape, give on-air advice to Machine Bolt and Él Farto on how to get jiggy with it and bring the ratings fight to Chudd and Carl (still in comas). Get your whips and your latex, and tune in for weather, listener calls, and some deeply inside-baseball radio strategy on this morning's broadcast!
This week, President Biden is here. You can ride the train mask free to mariners game But be prepared for the new seventh inning song.Esmy Jimenez of The Seattle Times and TBTL's Andrew Walsh break it all down.
We have often talked *about* straight cis white dudes on this show. But the number of times we've talked *to* them on the show? Next to never. So we wanted to revisit this bonus episode from the Before Times with two of our favorite dudes, Luke Burbank and Andrew Walsh, the co-hosts of the long-running daily podcast https://www.tbtl.net/ (Too Beautiful To Live). We talked about allyship and their own evolving thoughts about racism and sexism on the job. Luke also hosts https://www.livewireradio.org/ (Live Wire) on public radio stations everywhere and Andrew also co-hosts the delightful podcasts https://spotlesspod.com/ (Spotless )and https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/after-these-messages-podcast/id1057815491 (After These Messages).
Andrew is very anxious as he awaits a VERY IMPORTANT PACKAGE related to next week's live stream of TBTL. Plus, William Shatner gets an infuriating puff-piece in The Guardian. And another stranger reaches out to Andrew via Instagram looking for a different Andrew Walsh.
