One phrase that has helped many people in both their personal and professional lives is “Begin with an end in mind.” If we don’t know where we want to end up, we’re going to meander, get lost, or maybe even end up somewhere we thought we wanted to go… but it turns out it wasn’t. Why do you continue to be attracted to people who you know aren’t good for you?” [26:37] “Whenever you have a requirement, ask yourself: ‘Why is this important to me?’ If you can’t give yourself a viable answer, usually there’s a bias going on you want to unpack.” [30:48] “For long-term relationships, the more familiar we are, the more closely our values match, the safer we feel, the more comfortable we’re going to be with that partner long term.” [34:14] “You want to see if there’s consistency of those traits over time. That’s what leads you to the night before the wedding, not wondering if this is the right person.” [39:15]

On the podcast this week, we’re breathlessly talking about the suspenseful Fede Alvarez film, Don’t Breathe. We get way into our appreciation for the expert sound design throughout the entire film. It’s really immersive and makes you think that you might be the one breaking into a blind veteran’s house while watching it. Not only is the sound design super great, but the camera work is also top-notch. Seriously, why wasn’t this fun film seen by more people? It’s pretty awesome! Don’t Breathe is the sort of thriller that not only keeps you on the edge of whatever seat you might be sitting on but also has the ability to surprise you. And the surprises in this film are pretty dang intense, friend. Also, if Steven sounds a little sick in this episode, well, that’s because he was. But there’s not a cold in existence that’s going to keep him from talking about a great movie. Screw you, cold! Becoming a parent typically takes one on a bit of a roller coaster ride. This journey of being a parent has many ups and downs and even some sharp turns and stomach losing drops that can really take us off guard. Motherhood has brought innumerable lessons to many of us including a few surprising twists. Raising our children is not just about them growing in faith but also our sanctification. Lindsay Schlegel shares some of the points from her new book that have begun to shape her as a mother and a child of God. Founded in 1639, the town of Newport had grown up the hill from Narragansett Bay and Newport Harbor to engulf the meadows that lay above the shore.
