Even before the Brazilian international's wonderful goal just 11 minutes after coming off the bench, we'd seen Mikey Moore score with a thunderous strike, Dominic Solanke open his account for the season, Kevin Danso net his first goal for us with his first touch as a substitute, Micky van de Ven and Pedro Porro make their first appearances of the season in the second half to get important minutes in their legs and youngster Luca Williams-Barnett getting some game time late on. Some night! We also had a Ben Davies goal in the closing minutes, although that was so nearly another Savio strike as it was his goalbound effort that hit the Welsh defender on the way in! Charlton – who made 10 changes from their team that won at West Ham United on Saturday – netted a late consolation through Lloyd Jones. After securing our place in the third round, we will now face the Liverpool at Anfield in the week commencing 14 September. New manager, north of £200M spent this summer, and we were second best in every single area of that pitch. 3.96 xG to 0.47. Nobody is talking us into a good week. So here is how this works. Every Tuesday, Jonny from An Echo of Glory, Ben from We Are Tottenham TV and Billie from Last Word on Spurs each bring one hot take about Tottenham. One each. None of them has heard the other two before the cameras roll. Then they argue about it. This week all three have come out of the Brentford defeat, and none of them are the take you think they are going to be. One of them goes after a decision most fans have already accepted without questioning it. One of them says the damage was done weeks before a ball was kicked. And one of them is going to start a row in the comments, which is exactly the point. Everything else is on the table too. The two goals Kinsky will want back. Archie Gray captaining the side, the youngest to do it since Steve Perryman. Tonali skying one from 18 yards. Savinho agreed at £85m, Marmoush in the post, and whether any of it fixes what we watched on Saturday. Charlton in the cup, then Newcastle at home. It cannot look like that again. Tell us who won the argument in the comments. And bring your own hot take, the best ones get read out next week. Collectively COYS is the weekly Spurs show from An Echo of Glory, Last Word on Spurs and We Are Tottenham TV. Three channels, three takes, one panel, no agenda beyond arguing about our football club. Three different podcast voices. Three different perspectives. One club. We discuss the latest developments, and our number one alternative to Gakpo and assess why the club are yet to officially announce the arrivals of Savinho and Omar Marmoush. The uncertainty comes on a day when Manchester City released training footage showing Marmoush still at the club's training base, despite multiple reports suggesting the Egyptian had travelled to London to undergo his medical. Savinho, meanwhile, is understood to have already completed his medical, with only the official confirmation of his move seemingly pending. We also discuss the latest on James Maddison, who requires further medical checks following the knock he picked up against Brentford, before closing with the developing story surrounding the consortium that announced an agreement to purchase the majority of Daniel Levy's stake in ENIC, Tottenham's parent company. We look at Tottenham's estimated £700m–£1bn spending deficit, why buying three £20m players isn't the same as buying one £60m player, how Spurs can afford to keep spending, and whether Daniel Levy deserves more credit for building the financial machine now being unleashed in the transfer market. From Manchester United and Spurs stumbling to Aston Villa's heavy defeat and late drama at St James' Park, there is already plenty to get into. Then After Review makes its debut as the successor to VARse, with the focus still firmly on refereeing and VAR — but now under a new name. We look at how the season's new refereeing initiatives were applied across Gameweek 1, whether VAR's higher intervention bar is working as intended, and where the line should sit when player safety becomes part of the discussion.Attention then turns to Julian Álvarez, the increasingly difficult situation at Atlético Madrid and whether Arsenal should still be interested with Barcelona remaining part of the picture.Elsewhere, we get into the remarkable value of football memorabilia, Jean-Philippe Mateta's contract situation and the wider questions around club-held extension options, before finishing with terrace songs, Hull's tiger-claw celebration and some of the stranger moments from the opening weekend.Continue the discussion with us.Follow The NN Pod for more Arsenal and football content. All our links: https://beacons.ai/thennpodChapters:(00:00) - Arteta's Non-Negotiables & Intro(01:11) - WATG: Premier League Opening Weekend(03:14) - After Review: New Rules & VAR's Higher Bar(15:57) - Julian Álvarez: Arsenal & the Barcelona Problem(19:15) - Hand of God: Football Memorabilia Millions(22:45) - Jean-Philippe Mateta: The +1 Contract Challenge(27:22) - Terrace Songs: Brentford's New Anthem(30:08) - Hull City's Tiger Claws(31:22) - Unai Emery & Villa's Opening-Day Misery(33:59) - Outro & Aston Villa Preview

Arsenal got off to a routine start, whereas Manchester United, Aston Villa, Spurs and more suffered very disappointing opening weekend defeats. Hull, Ipswich, Brighton and Brentford had the headline wins, so there's chat about whether teams will take advantage of the post World Cup variables and how important it is for clubs not to fall behind. There are also shoutouts for some results in Spain, Italy, France, Germany and… the J-League!For more podcasts, ad-free and in full, plus access to the Stadio Social Club and much more, you can become a Stadio member by signing up at patreon.com/stadio. We discuss the breaking news of the ‘Here We Go' confirmations for both Omar Marmoush and Savinho, with the Manchester City pair set to become Tottenham Hotspur's latest summer signings. We also debate Spurs' pursuit of Cody Gakpo and whether he remains a viable option, or whether Spurs may need to pivot towards alternative targets such as one of the Chelsea duo Nicolas Jackson and Mykhailo Mudryk. A move for Victor Osimhen, meanwhile, looks increasingly unrealistic at this stage given his substantial wage demands. If forwards are going to arrive, it surely means at least one will have to depart. Could Richarlison end up reuniting with Everton before the transfer window closes? Could Dominic Solanke still leave the club before deadline day? One Spurs player who certainly looks set to leave is Pape Matar Sarr, who is attracting interest from Galatasaray but is reportedly keen to remain in the Premier League. We discuss the midfielder's frustrations over a lack of game-time and his alleged request for Roberto De Zerbi's permission to leave Tottenham. #1034 | Ed and Jamie look at Jeff Bezos buying into Liverpool, a deal that values the club at around £5.5 billion for a consortium stake of just under 40%. Why is Bezos getting involved now? Can an Amazon-owned media empire buy into a Premier League club without creating a conflict of interest for future TV rights deals? And how does it compare to United's own ownership structure? On United specifically, spend so far this summer sits at £135 million gross. What does that mean for United's SCR position? And why loaning Marcus Rashford out doesn't actually help United's finances despite the noise around it. The second half of the pod covers the wider transfer market: Tottenham's spending after two bottom-third finishes, Chelsea's need to sell under their settlement agreement, and a longer discussion of whether the squad cost ratio is fair on clubs like Newcastle and Villa. The answer, broadly, is that it isn't as unfair as often claimed. 0:00 Intro0:48 Season openers and fantasy football2:13 Bezos Liverpool consortium10:16 Amazon, media rights and conflicts of interest16:16 United's transfer spend and SCR position22:31 Rashford's future27:35 Big-six spending across the league29:04 Spurs, swap deals and dodgy transfers33:10 Chelsea's settlement agreement and sales37:32 Aston Villa's player trading39:54 Is SCR anti-competitive?45:51 Salary caps and the owner-funding 47:15 Ownership exits: Chelsea, Clearlake, FSG49:34 EFL losses and the Premier League deal55:21 Ticket prices and the pyramid56:22 Wrap-up If you are interested in supporting the show and accessing a weekly exclusive bonus episode, check out our Patreon page or subscribe on Apple Podcasts. This week the film is 1932's Freaks. From wiki: “Freaks (also re-released as The Monster Story,[6] Forbidden Love, and Nature's Mistakes[7]) is a 1932 American pre-Code drama horror film produced and directed by Tod Browning, starring Wallace Ford, Leila Hyams, Olga Baclanova, and Roscoe Ates. Freaks, originally intended as a vehicle for Lon Chaney,[7] is set amongst the backdrop of a travelling French circus and follows a conniving trapeze artist who joins a group of carnival sideshow performers with a plan to seduce and murder a dwarf in the troupe to gain his inheritance. However, her plot proves to have dangerous consequences. The film is based on elements from the short story "Spurs" by Tod Robbins, first published in Munsey's Magazine in February 1923, with the rights being purchased by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM). Cedric Gibbons, a childhood friend of Robbins and MGM art department chief, was responsible for the purchase.[6]”Also discussed: The Legend of the Stardust Brothers, Hot Spot (2026), The Lure (2015), Gypsy 83 (2001), Twinless (2025), The Invite (2026), Geek Love, and more. NEXT WEEK: Thelma (2017)Bloodhaus: https://www.bloodhauspod.com/https://www.instagram.com/bloodhauspod/https://letterboxd.com/bloodhaus/Drusilla Adeline:https://www.sisterhydedesign.com/https://letterboxd.com/sisterhyde/https://www.instagram.com/sister__hyde/Joshua Conkelhttps://www.joshuaconkel.com/https://www.instagram.com/joshua_conkel/https://letterboxd.com/JoshuaConkel/

Lining up with a number of fresh faces amidst a summer of change, our new-look side struggled to get going at the Gtech Community Stadium and paid the price against a ruthless Bees outfit who established control early on and never looked back, Keane Lewis-Potter and Vitaly Janelt putting them two goals to the good with just over half-an-hour gone before Michael Kayode netted a third with the second period only four minutes old. The scoreline could have been even worse for us, but Igor Thiago saw his 55th-minute penalty cannon back off the post after Rodrigo Bentancur was deemed to have fouled Kevin Schade in the box. Mikey Moore had our best chances to get off the mark in the second half but was denied three times by home goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher as Brentford capitalised on our period of transition to register their first-ever home Premier League win against us. We debate whether our pre-season tour was simply a hinderance rather than a benefit and how our midfield was nullified by Brentford summer signing Mamadou Sangaré and whether we can bounce back quickly with Charlton to come on Wednesday in the Carabao Cup and then Newcastle United to follow at home, where Spurs should hopefully welcome Savinho and Omar Marmoush as additional attacking options for both games.
