1 Thessalonians 4:9–12 Many Christians struggle to relate with non-Christians. We might ignore them or offend them, but Paul calls us to behave properly toward them (1 Thessalonians 4:9–12). Pastor Chuck Swindoll presents four specific actions from Paul's instructions to the Thessalonians about living among non-Christians. Understand that non-Christians are watching and listening, so determine to live wisely in sensitivity and grace toward others.
What do particle physicists and Wall Street traders have in common? How did finance become more like physics, and how is physics now becoming more like finance? Emanuel Derman is an emeritus professor at Columbia in financial engineering and the author of several books, including My Life as a Quant: Reflections on Physics and Finance and Models. Behaving. Badly.: Why Confusing Illusion with Reality Can Lead to Disaster, on Wall Street and in Life. His work examines the entanglement of physics and finance, using memoir to reveal hidden truths about the theories and models practitioners rely on. Greg and Emanuel discuss his transition from physics to Wall Street, revealing that he found finance to be more social and creative. They also explore how early quant work required both theory and hands-on programming, what distinguishes models from theories, and why, despite some superficial similarities, the fields of finance and physics couldn't be more different. *unSILOed Podcast is produced by University FM.* Episode Quotes: Financial models require confidence without hubris 29:29: In my life as a quant, I think I said you had to be cocky when you were using models and push them as far as you possibly could, but stop short of hubris, and I think that's important. You ought to understand that your model isn't going to be correct. In the end, the world is going to violate it. When physics meets social sciences 09:35: I think to some extent they [psychists] confuse accuracy with point of view. Even progressive theories get more and more accurate. Newton's laws aren't as accurate as relativity, but they still, both theories, the one just does better than the other, but they still have this nature of saying, let me describe the way the world works rather than, let me make an analogy. Why model builders must explain where models fail 30:46: There's a clear distinction between concentrators to tell the people that use it that this is where it's going to fail, as best I can see. And they'll use it in this regime. And these are the assumptions I'm making. Don't just let them run wild with the formula. I think traders are smarter now and more numerate and maybe understand this better, but I think that's important. Why financial engineers need perspective beyond mathematics 28:13: I don't think one should be teaching philosophy necessarily, but I think one should learn enough to know about the history of finance and to be able to back off a little and look at what you're doing. Not just, I don't know. I have a feeling more and more of the programs focus on mathematics and behavioral psychology. We lost scientific and environmental icon Paul Ehlich on March 13. We're honoring his memory by revisiting Dave Gardner's first interview with Paul, outside his Stanford University office in 2007 for the documentary, GrowthBusters: Hooked on Growth. Ehrlich was most famous for authoring, with wife Anne Ehrlich, the bestselling 1968 book, The Population Bomb. While the book inspired widespread concern about human overpopulation, those who profited from growth worked to discredit the book, the scientist, and the notion that human numbers above 2 or 3 billion would seriously harm our life-supporting ecosystems. Undaunted by the critics, Ehrlich spent the next 58 years speaking the truth that we were testing very real limits to growth. We'll devote several episodes of the GrowthBusters podcast to this smart and fearless scientist. This episode reprises episode 110 of the Conversation Earth syndicated radio series. Jeremy loses the plot after catching a gang of 11/12-year-olds swinging off (and basically destroying) newly planted trees in his local green… and he lets rip with a few choice words. But was he right to “verbally reef” kids he doesn't even know — or was the Dad dead right to tell him to mind his own business?Adrian says you've no right to discipline someone else's child (and definitely not with bad language). Jeremy says if people don't call it out, areas get wrecked and kids learn nothing.Plus: today's travel mug winner — and another giveaway question at the end.

Behaving rationally involves facing up to conditions of uncertainty; we never navigate the world with perfect confidence. Sometimes we are uncertain about the way the world is, but we can also be uncertain about our place within the world. This kind of situation arises in cosmology (where the relevant world can extend very far in space or time), and also in quantum mechanics (where new worlds might be created at any measurement), but also when we are simply unsure about the future history of humanity or whether we live in a computer simulation. I talk with philosopher Adam Elga about how to deal with these unique kinds of uncertainties. Upgrade your denim game with Rag & Bone! In this episode of Just Press Record, Matt Zeigler sits down with Phil Pearlman for a wide-ranging conversation about consistency, identity, and the quiet power of how we show up in the world. Using a short clip featuring Nancy Berger and Julia Duthie as a jumping-off point, the discussion explores how behavior shapes character, why role modeling matters more than advice, and how small, repeated actions compound into meaning over time. The conversation weaves together psychology, leadership, parenting, music, intuition, and personal growth, all grounded in lived experience rather than theory.Main topics coveredWhat consistency really means and why it is about behavior, not imageHow acting eventually becomes identity and shapes legacyRole modeling as one of the most powerful forces in families, workplaces, and communitiesWhy being yourself consistently is easier than maintaining a maskLeadership through example versus “do as I say, not as I do” authorityReinvention, aging, and the idea that growth does not stop in midlifeIntuition, hunger, and learning to recalibrate internal signals in a distorted environmentWhy comparison to others is a losing game and progress should be measured against yourselfThe connection between rhythm, music, and living with intentionLetting gravity work by focusing on direction, not perfectionTimestamps00:00 Introduction and the idea of consistency02:00 Phil Pearlman joins and the role of rhythm and music06:40 Consistency, authenticity, and being yourself everywhere11:00 Reinvention, choice, and behaving your way into being15:00 Masks, identity, and when actions become who you are20:45 Role modeling and its impact on children and culture25:00 Leadership, authenticity, and workplace behavior30:00 Intuition, hunger, and recalibrating internal cues38:20 Direction, progress, and why comparison fails44:10 Consistency as rhythm and living with intention50:30 Joy, imperfection, and showing up anyway53:00 Where to find Phil Pearlman and closing thoughts

In this powerful message, Pastor Snook encourages us to examine our boldness in sharing the Gospel. The central theme revolves around Paul's letter to the Ephesians, particularly chapter 6, verses 18-20. Here, we're reminded of our duty as 'ambassadors for Christ' in a world that desperately needs hope. Here we draw parallels between Paul's imprisonment and our own circumstances, urging us to see every situation as an opportunity to spread God's love. We're encouraged to pray fervently, not just for ourselves, but for the courage to speak boldly about our faith. This sermon resonates deeply with our daily lives, pushing us to step out of our comfort zones and truly live as salt and light in the world. It's a call to action, reminding us that our primary purpose is not just to live comfortable lives, but to actively participate in God's mission of reconciliation.

"Communion" celebrates our common union. As we're thinking about the brotherhood and sisterhood of believers, let's not forget that we have a living picture of that in the Lord's Supper! Every time we celebrate this memorial meal, we can see God's love working not just in the vertical dimension - but horizontally, among our siblings in the family of the redeemed. "Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another...." In Romans, Paul offers us grand theology, as well as some "Do's and Don'ts" of getting along with others: "...distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality." He writes, "Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. Agree toward one another." Today Pastor Jim begins a sermon called, Behaving Like Brethren. Freddie Sayers, Editor-in-Chief of UnHerd, interviews George Arison, CEO of Grindr, tracing his remarkable journey from growing up in the Soviet Union to leading the world's largest dating and hookup app for the LGBTQ+ community in the U.S. Openly gay, Arison shares insights into his personal life with his partner and family, reflecting on how his background shapes his leadership at Grindr. The conversation dives into Grindr's pivotal role in transforming the hookup and dating scene for gay men, its ongoing evolution, and its future direction as it adapts to the changing needs of its users, particularly as gay relationships increasingly embrace traditional aspirations like marriage, partnership, and family life. The interview explores the shifting dynamics of gay culture, questioning whether gay men are becoming more conservative in their life goals, seeking settled lives with husbands and children, and how Grindr is responding to these trends. Arison and Sayers also tackle the evolving politics of gay men, contrasting the U.S. and UK landscapes, with a focus on the surprising absence of openly gay Republican elected officials despite strong LGBTQ+ representation within the broader party and voter base. With a humorous nod to the alleged Grindr app crash during the Milwaukee RNC convention—prompting former presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg to quip, “Grindr is for Republicans”—they discuss the pro-gay stance of Donald Trump's administration, potential threats to LGBTQ+ healthcare, and the broader representation of gay men in Western politics. Markets are forward looking and are one of the strongest indicators of what lies ahead for global economies. This dynamic reflects the thinking of millions of market participants digesting and pricing available information to guide how asset prices reflect the future. For all the twists, turns, and curveballs that 2025 has delivered, markets are, in many cases, at or above where the year started. The S&P 500 is in the green, the ASX 200 is up, and yields on US 10-year bonds, a useful proxy for risk appetite, are lower than at the start of the year. At face value, you might conclude that investors are more confident about the economic outlook, or at the very least more comfortable than they were in January. But not all signals are flashing green. A 10% fall year-to-date in the safe-haven US dollar is one example that warrants closer inspection. That's the view of Fidelity International's Chief Investment Officer of Equities, Niamh Brodie-Machura, who oversees a team of more than 120 analysts managing over $220 billion for Fidelity clients.

Join hosts Dennis Wiles, Luke Stehr, and Katy Reed Hodges for another engaging episode of "Tell me more" as they dive deep into Dennis's latest Sunday sermon on Colossians 3:1-17. This week, the trio explores what it truly means to live virtuously in Christian community and why love stands as the greatest virtue of all.Dennis breaks down his powerful message about character transformation - how we exchange our old vices for new virtues as followers of Christ. The hosts discuss the relational nature of Kingdom living and why virtues like compassion, kindness, and patience aren't meant to be practiced in isolation, but rather in the messiness and beauty of community life. You'll hear insightful conversation about the three B's of Christian community: Belonging (how all barriers dissolve when we belong to Jesus), Believing (being united by the Gospel message), and Behaving (living accountably together for God's glory). The hosts share personal stories, laugh together, and offer practical wisdom on what it looks like to truly flourish in Christian community.Plus, don't miss their roundup of exciting happenings around the church - from upcoming events to inspiring stories of their congregation living out these virtues in real time.Whether you're new to faith or a seasoned believer, this episode offers both encouragement and challenge as you consider what it means to "walk this way… together!" Tune in for thoughtful discussion, genuine friendship, and a fresh perspective on living the Christian life in community.

We love a good "passenger doing strange things" story at The Red Eye, it's amazing how many of them we get! But this one was a first for us...On a flight, when a passenger mixes medication with alcohol, the cabin crew often end up dealing with a person not in their right mind. Sometimes things get scary, and sometimes it's just plain bizarre!Music Credits for The San Franciscan Shoe StealerDevious Little Smile by GodsmodeLosing Your Marbles - The SoundlingsRunning It Down - Everet Almond 48000 1Sound Effects by freesound_community from PixabaySound Design by Ally MurphySend us a text! Timestamp: (7:04) - Tyler Weathersby In September 2024, South Dakota man Tyler Weathersby was acting erratically. His mother was visiting from interstate and the two had an argument. He drove his mother to the airport the day before her flight and left her there. He was agitated when he got home. His wife, MonaLisa Perez, said that he would routinely go for long walks, multiple times per day. She assumed that this is what he was doing on September 4 when he left their home. Tyler can be seen on CCTV walking in the neighborhood that day. He has not been seen since. In an interesting twist in the case, MonaLisa accidentally killed her first husband Pedro in 2017. The two were filming a YouTube prank video that went wrong, resulting in Pedro's death. Where is Tyler? Did he suffer a mental health crisis? Or is there something more at play? In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast, we discuss the disappearance of Tyler Weathersby.
