If you asked the average person how Vikings solved their problems, they probably wouldn't say through lawyers. And yet, early Scandinavian people were sticklers for due process. This week, Danièle speaks with Robert Lively about how a person became a Viking lawyer, what the process was for solving disputes, and how fixing bad behaviour worked in this shame-based culture.Listen to this podcast ad-free on Patreon - go to https://www.patreon.com/medievalists

"Communion" celebrates our common union. As we're thinking about the brotherhood and sisterhood of believers, let's not forget that we have a living picture of that in the Lord's Supper! Every time we celebrate this memorial meal, we can see God's love working not just in the vertical dimension - but horizontally, among our siblings in the family of the redeemed. We'll back up for a few minutes into yesterday's program, then Jim will close his thoughts on Romans 12 with Part 2 of, Behaving Like Brethren. "Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another...." In Romans, Paul offers us grand theology, as well as some "Do's and Don'ts" of getting along with others: "...distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality." He writes, "Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. Agree toward one another." Today Pastor Jim begins a sermon called, Behaving Like Brethren. Freddie Sayers, Editor-in-Chief of UnHerd, interviews George Arison, CEO of Grindr, tracing his remarkable journey from growing up in the Soviet Union to leading the world's largest dating and hookup app for the LGBTQ+ community in the U.S. Openly gay, Arison shares insights into his personal life with his partner and family, reflecting on how his background shapes his leadership at Grindr. The conversation dives into Grindr's pivotal role in transforming the hookup and dating scene for gay men, its ongoing evolution, and its future direction as it adapts to the changing needs of its users, particularly as gay relationships increasingly embrace traditional aspirations like marriage, partnership, and family life. The interview explores the shifting dynamics of gay culture, questioning whether gay men are becoming more conservative in their life goals, seeking settled lives with husbands and children, and how Grindr is responding to these trends. Arison and Sayers also tackle the evolving politics of gay men, contrasting the U.S. and UK landscapes, with a focus on the surprising absence of openly gay Republican elected officials despite strong LGBTQ+ representation within the broader party and voter base. With a humorous nod to the alleged Grindr app crash during the Milwaukee RNC convention—prompting former presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg to quip, “Grindr is for Republicans”—they discuss the pro-gay stance of Donald Trump's administration, potential threats to LGBTQ+ healthcare, and the broader representation of gay men in Western politics. Markets are forward looking and are one of the strongest indicators of what lies ahead for global economies. This dynamic reflects the thinking of millions of market participants digesting and pricing available information to guide how asset prices reflect the future. For all the twists, turns, and curveballs that 2025 has delivered, markets are, in many cases, at or above where the year started. The S&P 500 is in the green, the ASX 200 is up, and yields on US 10-year bonds, a useful proxy for risk appetite, are lower than at the start of the year. At face value, you might conclude that investors are more confident about the economic outlook, or at the very least more comfortable than they were in January. But not all signals are flashing green. A 10% fall year-to-date in the safe-haven US dollar is one example that warrants closer inspection. That's the view of Fidelity International's Chief Investment Officer of Equities, Niamh Brodie-Machura, who oversees a team of more than 120 analysts managing over $220 billion for Fidelity clients.

I talk to you about ways to deliver your inner child and that it's OK.
Presented at Curwensville Alliance on 3/16/25 by Pastor Steve Shields. Listen as Pastor Steve speaks on the parable of the wineskins found in Luke 5:33-39. The Gospel is an irresistible force, but it doesn't always behave like an irresistible force. Jesus is a gentleman. He knocks. We need to receive what He has and who He is. People like to think they are immovable, but you're not. Behaving like we're immovable is dangerous. Even believers can fake immovability. The Gospel invites you to join the unstoppable. It does this by changing you. Open your eyes to Christ, and open your eyes to your place. You have a purpose.
As an altercation between parents occurred at a junior basketball game in Reservoir on the weekend, in this edition of The Conversation Hour we ask what's underpinning this aggressive behaviour and whether we are loosing sight of what kids sport is really about. Plus, as White Lotus star Lou Wood has spoken about feeling rebellious for not changing her teeth we discuss the connection between teeth and identity. And new research from Royal Life Saving Australia reveals that young people are not meeting the water safety benchmarks, so whose responsibly is it to make sure kids know how to swim?

This is episode 75! And I'm thrilled to introduce my guest today. He is a true pioneer in the field of behavioural finance, Dr. Greg Davies. Greg is the Head of Behavioural Finance at Oxford Risk and has spent his career shaping how we understand investor psychology, financial decision-making, and the emotional complexities that come with managing money—especially in retirement. In this episode, we'll explore the behavioural traps that retirees often fall into, how to build financial resilience, and why understanding your own psychology is just as important as having a well-structured portfolio. Throughout our conversation, Greg and I explore the multifaceted aspects of retirement planning, emphasizing the importance of guaranteed income and its psychological benefits. We discuss how behavioural finance plays a crucial role in spending habits during retirement, the impact of inflation on purchasing power, and the distinction between risk and volatility in investment strategies. We also touch on future trends in retirement planning, particularly the potential need for and benefits of health insurance and a shift in focus from bequest to spending during retirement. Key Takeaways Greg Davis shares his journey from economics to behavioral finance. Behavioral finance combines psychology, economics, and finance. The importance of practical applications of behavioral science in finance. People often make poor financial decisions due to cognitive biases. Simplifying complex financial concepts is crucial for better decision-making. Emotional comfort plays a significant role in financial decisions. Retirement planning today is more complex than in previous generations. Technology can help simplify financial decision-making processes. Understanding personal values is essential for effective retirement planning. The removal of guaranteed income streams complicates retirement planning. Financial advisors often overlook the emotional aspects of retirement planning. Guaranteed income can alleviate fears of running out of money. Behavioral finance significantly influences spending habits in retirement. People with guaranteed income tend to spend more comfortably. Inflation poses a significant risk to retirement savings. Understanding the difference between risk and volatility is crucial for investors. Many retirees are too conservative with their investment strategies. Health insurance will become increasingly important in retirement planning. The focus of retirement planning is shifting from bequest to spending. Planning for retirement should consider both financial and emotional factors. In this third installment of the How to Heal series, I'm talking about radical honesty - why it's important, what happens when we're not honest with ourselves, and how to get more honest. You'll Learn:What it means to be radically honest Why it's so hard for us to be honest with ourselvesSigns that you might have some healing to do4 strategies to increase your self-awareness and honestyYou can't heal from anything until you're aware of what it is that is causing you pain. Listen to learn how.---------------------------------In this healing process, we're trying to tap into our most pure state of being, where we have a deep sense of peace and wholeness so that we can be okay no matter what is happening around us. Why Honesty MattersYou can't heal from anything until you're aware of what it is that is causing you pain. Often, we are unwilling to look at our patterns and our pain because it creates a discomfort in us that we don't know if we can handle. But the truth is, what you resist persists. If you resist your pain, it will stay. Being willing to really look at ugly, hard, difficult things about ourselves and our lives requires us to be radically honest with ourselves. Ultimately, you're healing yourself so that you don't harm your kids. Because, in full love and safety, yelling at your kid, shutting down, or being rough with their body hurts them. I want your children to grow up and not have to heal from childhood wounds. Now, everyone is gonna get hurt in childhood. In life, pain is inevitable. It's how we deal with pain, how we talk about pain, and how honest we are that actually creates the healing in real time. When you start to get honest with yourself, you'll probably start to notice some clues.Thinking negatively and critically of yourself…Feeling despair, discontentment, discomfort, anger, resentment, confusion, or lack of clarity …Behaving in ways that hurt you or others (like your kids)...These are all really good indicators that you might have something to heal from. Why Honesty Is So HardI think of radical honesty as being willing to admit how you are thinking, feeling, and acting - even when it's uncomfortable. Being honest about your pain is the key to healing your pain. So, if honesty is so important, why aren't we honest with ourselves and each other about our pain?We often don't even realize how cruel we're being to ourselves with our thoughts, we don't understand why we're feeling or acting the way we are. We also live in a society that tells us we should be happy all the time (good vibes only

Paul rebuked the Corinthians for their lack of growth in 1 Corinthians 3:1-4. He did not condemn them as carnal babes in Christ at the beginning of their faith, but they had not grown, and were still carnal. This carnality led to division and strife. They had become Christians, but reverted to behaving like mere men.

Timestamp: (7:04) - Tyler Weathersby In September 2024, South Dakota man Tyler Weathersby was acting erratically. His mother was visiting from interstate and the two had an argument. He drove his mother to the airport the day before her flight and left her there. He was agitated when he got home. His wife, MonaLisa Perez, said that he would routinely go for long walks, multiple times per day. She assumed that this is what he was doing on September 4 when he left their home. Tyler can be seen on CCTV walking in the neighborhood that day. He has not been seen since. In an interesting twist in the case, MonaLisa accidentally killed her first husband Pedro in 2017. The two were filming a YouTube prank video that went wrong, resulting in Pedro's death. Where is Tyler? Did he suffer a mental health crisis? Or is there something more at play? In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast, we discuss the disappearance of Tyler Weathersby. The National Security Hour with Col. Mike and Dr. Mike – Today, I speak with economist Murray Sabrin about government overreach, the dangers of executive orders, and the escalating national debt. Sabrin highlights issues like the erosion of constitutional rights, the risks of protectionist tariffs, and the need to abolish the Federal Reserve, warning that America's current trajectory may lead to authoritarianism if liberty isn't defended.

Maintaining appropriate Christian behavior can be particularly challenging in a world where political discourse often becomes heated and divisive. In today's timely episode, Carl and Todd delve into the complexities of navigating faith and politics, especially during an election year. "We want to talk today about how Christians can have strong opinions on important issues and express those opinions in a way that does not undermine their broader Christian witness." – Carl Trueman What impact does political discourse have on Christian testimony, and how can we express strong opinions without compromising our witness? Their conversation delves into the rise of neo-Christian nationalism, the infantilism in modern politics, and the need for Christians to engage in the public sphere with integrity and honor. "We are not going to win the culture by aping the culture. Seek influence, push back against the darkness, but do so uniquely as Christians." – Todd Pruitt We are pleased to offer three copies of Carl's book Crisis of Confidence to our listeners, thanks to the generosity of our friends at the Crossway.
