Today, I am bringing you a “Best of” episode that is more relevant now than ever.  What I love most about Facebook and Instagram ads is that when you use them to grow an online business, they are a source of predictable leads and sales. That is the foundation of a scalable business, especially when combined with your organic efforts, such as social media, a podcast, blog or YouTube channel.  What holds so many people from running ads though is the fear of losing money (and/or time!) and not having any results to show for it. Today’s guest is Nicole Burke, and you’re going to get a lot from her story of how she overcame this fear to run ads, and after figuring them out, she is now off to the races!  In addition to running a brick and mortar business called Rooted Garden, which she started with only $400 and grew it to 6-figures in just one year, Nicole is the founder of Gardenary, the online platform that connects beginner and learning gardeners with experienced gardeners through courses, workshops, and garden coaching. Most of our conversation focuses on this business, and how Nicole grew it to over 6-figures as well, without the use of ads and by using super-smart organic strategies, especially on Instagram. On the Show Today You’ll Learn: How Nicole fell in love with backyard gardening and then created a business around it Why she moved to the online space, plus the pivotal role that Instagram played for her The big vision that Nicole has created for her life and business, and the way she is working backward to achieve it all How she was able to go from a launch that generated just three sales to filling 35 spots in her membership in just a short period of time  What she is doing to manage a business professional and personal life while moving towards her long-term vision for the companies Four key strategies that Nicole has used to build her online community intentionally, including one powerful Instagram strategy that you’re going to want to give a try The challenges and limiting beliefs she faced in running Facebook ads and the way that Nicole has overcome them Now that Nicole has shifted her mindset on paid ads and is seeing great success by using them, the sky is the limit for her and I’m so excited to be sharing this conversation with you today. I hope you can use these lessons to grow your business, and let us Nicole and I know how the strategies she revealed work for you!  If you’d like my help as you do this for your business, then I want to invite you to apply for my Accelerator group coaching program. Today’s episode is going to be a “best of” replay of one of the most highly downloaded episodes in 2020.   My guest on this episode is Kate Dillon.  Kate is in a very niche market.  In fact, she’s known as the “Girl Who Sells Race Car Parts” and she has an e-commerce business that at the time of this recording back in January, was projected to break 7-figures in 2020.  In this episode we cover her journey in starting and growing her online training business in 2019, and all the lessons that she’s learned along the way.  Kate initially created an online course for race car drivers, which she turned into a membership site in the latter part of last year. You’ll hear about the first webinars she did to promote her offering, and what happened when she got intentional with her Facebook ads marketing (and stopped just boosting posts)!  She admits that running ads in the beginning was “freaky and scary”, but as you will hear, Kate has done an amazing job on them!   Kate uses a ton of videos in her business and is super effective at using Facebook groups in her overall marketing strategy.  Kate knows her target audience very well, which allows her to drive all of her messaging and marketing to an audience that isn’t used to purchasing online course offerings.  I got so much insight from what she had to say in this conversation so I am excited to bring it back in case you missed this episode the first time!  Stay tuned because I am excited to have her back on for an update in 2021! On another note, have you taken my business blindspot quiz yet? In fact, Madison has never been busier than he is right now in his business, and he has so many lessons to share that I knew I had to invite him to come on the podcast. When Madison joined Accelerator 6 months ago his big goal was to create a sales funnel to sell his higher-ticket offers. Madison leads with service and value, and it really shows with his 77% close rate – and he’s going to break it down for you here how he does this! You’ll hear the pricing strategies that Madison uses, the way that he overqualifies his leads, and the amazing things that can happen when you do this. If you’re wondering about pivoting your offer and messaging and really leading with value and service during these times, you’re going to get a lot from this episode! I’m starting a new 8-week group coaching program to offer support during these uncertain times, and you can register at https://rickmulready.com/strategysessions (available to the first 50 people who sign up). For today’s show I wanted to do something a bit different and take you behind the scenes of a hot seat that one of my Accelerator Mastermind members did during our recent live retreat in San Diego. She won’t be appearing on this episode with me, but you’ll be hearing a breakdown of what was covered during the hot seat, along my recommendations and key takeaways for her. Lisa Richey is the founder of Manners To Go, which teaches children the proper manners and etiquette they need to succeed in life. Lisa current offers a curriculum for teachers and schools, as well as a certification program. At this time the certification and licensing side of her business is doing really well, so she wanted to focus her hot seat on the education side of things. We helped Lisa map out a strategy for the next quarter to really get the ball rolling by building her email list and generating more sales of her curriculum bundles. As you’ll hear in this episode, Lisa walked away from the hot seat with a very detailed strategy, and a step-by-step process for what she needs to focus on over the next 90 days, and beyond. This is really a discussion about what you should (and shouldn’t) be spending your valuable time on, along with practical strategies that you too can use for your next launch! Want to win a 30-minute strategy session with me? I’ll be drawing one winner at random each month, and all you have to do is give me your feedback on this podcast over at http://rickmulready.com/messenger, telling me what you’d like to hear more of - including topics you’d like to see covered, guests, style and frequency of the show! On the Show Today You’ll Learn:  Lisa’s past experiences running ads and a common mistake she made that affected her results What to make sure of when you’re defining your target audiences How to start growing your email list, and the three things to remember when creating your lead magnet A strategy I recommend she use for running her Facebook and Instagram ads, and why I believe Pinterest needs to be part of her organic and paid strategy How a solid strategy using video can do more than just help Lisa gain awareness Why launching with a live webinar, and optimizing it first, is important to do before even considering moving to an evergreen one A launch checklist that you can use for your next launch, plus what to focus on and what can be left until later in the process The most important emails to focus on (and this may surprise you…)

Today I want to dive into a topic that I think is such a critical piece of growing an online business. If you’re looking to grow your brand and position yourself as a thought leader and authority in your space (plus grow your email list and sell more of your products and services), being a guest on other podcasts is a great way to do it! Podcasting is still very much in its infancy, but it’s ready to explode, and I’ll share the stats in this episode to back this up… So how do you go about getting on other podcasts? I hear excuses from people I speak with all the time, listing all the reasons why they can’t do it. I’m telling you that every single person listening right now has unique gifts to share with the world! You won’t be able to help the people that need your help by playing small though, which is why the message that I have to share in this episode is so important for you to understand. Not only am I going to give you my blueprint for growing your brand using podcast appearances, but I’ve also asked some of my friends to join me on this episode to share their best tips and strategies as well! The people I’ve asked on are super successful online business owners, and you just may recognize the names in this All-Star lineup. You’re going to hear from Pat Flynn, John Lee Dumas, James Wedmore, Amy Porterfield, Jenna Kutcher, Tarzan Kay and Julie Solomon, and I was blown away by their expertise and what they share about getting on other podcasts (and I’m sure you will be too)! Today’s guest recently posted in the Foundations Facebook Group about the success she was having with her Facebook ads, and I knew that I had to feature her here on the podcast. Kate Dillon is in a very niche market (in fact, she’s known as the “Girl Who Sells Race Car Parts") and she has an e-commerce business that will break 7-figures this year. What we really cover in this episode though is her journey in starting and growing her online training business in 2019, and all the lessons that she’s learned along the way. Kate initially created an online course for race car drivers, which she turned into a membership site in the latter part of last year. You’ll hear about the first webinars she did to promote her offering, and what happened when she really got intentional with her Facebook ads marketing (and stopped just boosting posts)! She admits that at first, Ads Manager was “freaky and scary”, but Kate has done an amazing job running her ads to increase the number of people on her webinars, sales, as well building her list, and you’ll hear how she’s done it. Kate uses a ton of videos in her business, and she is effective at using Facebook Groups in her overall marketing strategy, among other things. You’ll really want to listen for how she knows her target audience so well. It’s this knowledge that drives all of Kate’s messaging and marketing to an audience that isn’t used to purchasing online course offerings and trainings. I can’t wait to see how Kate progresses this year, and I got so much insight from what she had to say in this conversation. There is so much good stuff she shares here that you can start using in your own online business too! Want to win a 30-minute strategy session with me? This has been a massive year of growth for the podcast, and I first want to thank you for this! I want 2020 to be a big year of growth in your business as well, which is why I’m bringing you tips and strategies for how to win with Facebook and Instagram Ads in the near year. On last Friday’s Quick Tip I talked about the 7 areas I recommend you focus on in 2020, but you may have noticed that I didn’t include ads as one of these areas. That was intentional, because it should be a given that we always need to be focusing on advertising, because it really has been “pay to play” for awhile now in the online space. If you’re not using paid ads to generate leads and sales, you are missing a huge opportunity! In this episode I’ll be talking about what’s changed with ads and the reasons that they continue to be both eye-opening and exciting for online entrepreneurs. I’ll give you my thoughts on where are things are heading, and in addition to the 7 key ways to win with Facebook and Instagram Ads in 2020, I’ll be including two bonuses at the end of the episode that you’ll want to listen for. As with the last episode, nothing I share here is earth shattering, but try focusing on and testing a few strategies that I speak about today, and you could see amazing results in 2020 (and beyond)! Before we start the show, I’ve got something to ask. At this time we have over 500 5-Star ratings and reviews on Apple Podcasts, which is great, but I’ve set a goal to get 750 of them now by the end of this year, December 31st, 2019. If you’ve gotten value from this podcast, I’d really appreciate you subscribing and leaving an honest rating and review. Take a screenshot, share it on your Instagram Stories and tag me, @rickmulready. The reasons that we need to have a “mobile first mentality”, especially with Instagram Ads Ways to be using live video in your advertising, and one area that presents a huge opportunity for advertisers next year What you need to be aware of in terms of Campaign Budget Optimization in Q1 of the new year Why I think that Instagram will continue to become more important from an advertising perspective, plus what we’ve been seeing from our Instagram placements How an increased focus on your messaging will help you reach your target audience more effectively, why simplification is key for your ad campaigns, and more!

Today we’re going to continue with the productivity theme on the podcast, and if you missed the bonus episode from this past Monday with Neill Williams, you’re going to want to check that one out too! In this episode my good friend Craig Ballantyne is rejoining me (now as a guest for the third time!), to talk about his latest book called The Perfect Week Formula. Craig is an expert in productivity for entrepreneurs, and he was one of my original mentors (and continues to be) since I started in the online space. His books and content have helped me so much over the years, and I know they can do the same for you too. In this episode Craig reveals what it means to have a “perfect week”, what to really focus on to get more done, and the way you can leave a lasting legacy with the work that you do. He shares his brilliant “Billionaire Time Matrix” concept, along with the four questions that can save you 10 hours a week – and who wouldn’t want to have that? Craig talks about how top performers end their days to guarantee success, and he shares his “Blackout Game” that I had never heard of before. This is a challenge and system that as an entrepreneur, you’re going to want to see if you can implement it! This was a wide-ranging conversation that covered a lot, and what I like about Craig is that he always gives strategies and tactics that you can use right way. This conversation is no exception, because the stuff Craig reveals in this episode can change your life very, very quickly! Before we start the show, I’ve got something to ask. Are you looking to accomplish more and see bigger results in your personal life and business, but in less time? This is something that I’ve really been working on since the birth of my daughter, which is why I was looking forward to bringing Neill Williams on to the podcast to talk about how it can actually be done. Neill is “The Feel Better Coach” and a member of my Accelerator Mastermind, and she recently presented some amazing strategies and tips to the rest of the group at our recent retreat, which you’ll hear in this episode. Neil is a certified life coach, mom and wife, and in addition to building her business she still is an employee in the corporate world. Neill is a high-achieving person, but was finding it hard to get all the things she needed to do done. She did eventually figure out the way to get the life she wanted, while taking care of herself in the process, and what she talks about here is a real eye-opener. In this episode Neill reveals what her life looks like now, including what she does to build a successful in business by only working 3 days a week (and getting more done in 25 to 30 hours than she had previously done in 50 to 60)! There was a mindset shift that was needed, and today Neill shares what this was, as well as the complete system she uses to crush each week and month. You’ll hear that we really don’t have to be working 18-hour days as entrepreneurs, and our schedules don’t have to be jammed packed with things to do every day. Also, it’s not hard work and hustle that will generate the results you want to see. I had a Google doc open while Neill and I were having this conversation, and I took down so much good stuff during it. So are you ready to get intentional about your life and see what happens when you do? Let’s do it! Before we start the show, I’ve got something to ask. As you’ll hear, Shannon is the ideal person to have this discussion with. As she earned her PhD, she discovered that our brains are able to change, and that we can actually hardwire new ways of thinking, acting, and being. She now is able to take time away to spend with her kids, increase her impact through my nonprofit, Mosaic Vision, and grow her revenue. The best part is that it’s not that difficult to remove the mental blocks that are holding you back, and in this episode Shannon provides tactical tips and action steps you can start taking today to do this, along with access to her free daily brain priming audio series – that just takes minutes a day! Although Mel is an expert in entrepreneurial finances and building wealth, in this episode he’s focusing on something that he hasn’t really talked about publicly before – how he’s beating cancer. I recently invited Mel to speak to my Accelerator Mastermind group at our retreat in San Diego, and a few minutes before he was set to start I asked him if he would be willing to talk about everything he’s gone through recently with his health, and the lessons that he’s learned along the way. This past August I was a guest on my friend Amy Porterfield’s Marketing Made Easy podcast, where I discussed 3 different strategies (plus a bonus!) for using Facebook ads in your pre-launch, or that crucial 60 to 90 days timeframe leading up to cart open. I wanted to share part of this conversation with Amy here today, because we covered a lot of things that could not only help you launch, but also build your email list year round, lower your ad costs, and a whole lot more. You’ll hear actual strategies that both Amy and I have used in our businesses to make the best use of this critical pre-launch phase, including some beginner and advanced strategies for you to try implementing in your own business.  What Amy and I talk about in this episode isn’t rocket science. It’s really all about focusing on the basics when it comes to running Facebook ads and launching your new course or program. The people who are willing to be patient and that stick with these basic principles are the ones who will be rewarded in the end! Today I want to take you through an exercise that can drastically improve the results you’re getting with your Facebook and Instagram ads. This is an exercise that I’ve gone through with quite a few people in the trainings that I do, including at a recent live retreat for my Accelerator Mastermind - and it blew them away! This exercise is really the upfront work that you need to be doing before you even open Facebook Ads Manager to set up your ads, but I still see so many people not taking the time to do this.  What I’m talking about today has everything to do with your target audience and fully understanding them. Yes, your ideal customer avatar is important, but when it comes to running ads you need to take it a step further and learn how to effectively subsegment your ideal customer. If you’re already doing something like this in your business, or you implement what I share in this episode, let me know over on Instagram, @rickmulready! Last year I was looking for a new way to launch my Facebook Ad Manager program, and I just didn’t feel like doing a webinar launch, even though it’s something I like to do and have had lots of success with. In the past I’ve also used a traditional video series to launch, where I scripted and recorded the vidoes over the course of a few weeks, but to be honest I could not have hated that process more (even though it was effective and we helped a lot of people with it)! So I decided to combine these two types of launches last year, but with a twist. I created what I call the LiveStream Launch Formula, which I will be sharing with you today. The first time I used the LiveStream Launch Formula in early 2018 it was so successful, and I had so much fun, that I just knew I had to try it again late last year. Both of these launches ended up being some of the biggest ones I’ve ever had, so today I wanted to teach you how you can use the LiveStream Launch Formula in your own business. In this episode I’m going to share the framework I use, the big lessons and takeaways I’ve learned from doing it, the results I’ve achieved, and a whole lot more. So if you’re looking for a new way to launch, I hope you find value in what I have to share today. Don’t hesitate to put your own twist on things though, and as always, keep testing and see what works for you on your next launch. Good luck! Before we start the show, I’ve got something to ask. You’ve likely heard the concept of building the “know-like-trust” factor in order to convert leads into sales. As a business owner you have to have some sort of strategy for getting someone from the place of not even knowing who you are, to becoming a paying customer. Understanding your customer journey is critical for your business, which is why I wanted to talk about it today. This is something I recently took my October mastermind group through, and it opened up a lot of eyes…  Frankly, the customer journey isn’t something that a lot of people teach, but I can tell you that it is a major reason why people aren’t converting leads to sales in their businesses. On this episode I’m going to break it all down for you and simplify everything, and after listening, you’ll see why your offer most likely isn’t the problem if you’re having trouble getting sales. What I share with you today will help give you better understanding of your customer’s journey, and why it’s so important to your success! Before we start the show, I’ve got something to ask. Today’s strategy session is with Amanda Genther, who is best known for creating custom sales page design for people launching online courses, membership sites, higher-ticket group coaching and mastermind groups. Amanda is in a bit of a transition phase, as she’s trying to decide which direction to go in next in her business. As you’ll hear in this episode, she’s got no shortage of options to consider! Amanda breaks down each of the paths she could go take next, including focusing a course that she’s launched in the past, growing her membership site, restarting her “done-for-you” services work with individual clients, and she has even thought about designing templates for her clients. Of all of the options that Amanda is considering, there are definitely ones that I like better than the others, and I give her my thoughts on each. One of the options is something that could be considered “easy money”, but it’s not what is going to move the needle for what Amanda really wants to do long-term, so I share with her what I would do instead, complete with a detailed launch strategy to set herself up success. By the end of this call Amanda commits to this strategy, and I believe that by committing to just one thing and really focusing on it, that’s when things are going to completely change for her and her business. If you are an entrepreneur who isn’t sure which way to go next, what I cover today can help give you clarity as well going forward. Before we start the show, I’ve got something to ask. In fact, I really changed the lens through which I view my business since the birth of my daughter in December of 2018, which I’ve talked a lot about recently.  I felt like I was doing you all a disservice by teaching only one piece of the puzzle, and building a truly impactful business requires a lot more than just Facebook and Instagram ads (although they are still an integral part of it all)! It’s easy to overlook the other critical things that are needed, like having the right mindset, getting organic traffic and building out a team, to name a few. It’s for this reason that I have created what I call the “Impact Entrepreneur Framework”, which is made up of four stages, or systems, of an impactful business. When you’ve mastered each of these four systems within the framework, you’ve got a business that makes a lot of money, is profitable and truly makes an impact on a ton of people!  I’m going to break down this framework for you today, and if you’re a visible learner like I am, I’ve created a diagram of the framework that accompanies this episode, and you can find the link to download it at https://s3.amazonaws.com/RickMulready.com/Accelerator/impact_framework_092719.pdf Before we start the show, I’ve got something to ask. For today’s show I wanted to share with you a strategy session I recently had with a member of my Accelerator Group Mastermind who is looking to increase her monthly revenue by $25,000 – in addition to what she is generating right now in her business. Jasmine Shea is the founder of Your Dinner Is Planned, the easiest and most affordable way to cook healthy dinners for your family. Her thriving online membership brings brand-new, healthy recipes to its members each week, along with organized and portioned grocery checklists, and much more. Jasmine is very active on Instagram, and right now she is doing her launches on that platform. She’s been launching quarterly, where the doors have been open for 3 days, and then she builds a waitlist for her membership. Very recently she closed the cart on a $1 trial where new members get access to her content for 7 days, and she signed up 218 new members, with an impressive 74% of those people staying on for full payment after the 7-day trial.  Jasmine’s launches have been consistent, as last quarter she saw 206 new members join, but her top priority now is getting new members and seeing a significant increase in these numbers the next time she launches. We also talk about some other priorities for her, including how she wants to enhance her customer experience, and further improve her already strong retention numbers (and lifetime customer value). As you’ll hear, there is a lot that Jasmine is doing right at the moment, and she really knows her numbers. I’m going to be recommending some strategies that she can try that will help her reach her goals faster though, including a new way that she can launch monthly, instead of quarterly, without the launch process taking up all of her time and being stressful and overwhelming. At the end of the episode I detail the next steps for Jasmine, and she’s already working on integrating the strategies that we talk about here. She’s an action taker, and I have no doubt that she’ll continue to test and tweak her strategies, and the results will follow. My hope is that you too can gain valuable insights for your next launch from this strategy session! Before we start the show, I’ve got something to ask. At this time we have over 500 5-Star ratings and reviews on Apple Podcasts, which is great, but I’ve set a goal to get 750 of them by the end of Q3, Sept 30th, 2019, which is just a few short days away. Lianne is a business coach who primarily serves mama entrepreneurs through her coaching programs and online membership community, Mamas & Co, which now has over 300 members (and growing). As you’ll hear in this episode, I met Lianne at one of my live events in May 2018 and I’ve had the honor of coaching her for a little over a year now. Whenever we have a group call I’m always so excited to hear how Lianne is going to show up, because she always comes with a positive attitude and that mindset shows in the results she achieves. It wasn’t always that way though, and Lianne is very open about the doubts and fears that she’s experienced along her journey as a business owner, including a time recently where she was expecting to fail even before tickets went on sale for her event, MamaCon. The big difference now is that Lianne is able to recognize these thought patterns within minutes, and she changes them before taking action from a better place, and not from one of fear. Lianne has come so far and now has a thriving multi-6-figure business, although it’s not just about the money for her. It’s really about having as big an impact as possible, and to do that, Lianne has had to get out of her comfort zone and learn to become the CEO and leader of her growing business. For today’s show I’m going to be breaking down the evergreen webinar funnel I’m running for my Foundations Facebook and Instagram Ads Program. Why am I sharing this? Well to be honest, this funnel hasn’t been performing anywhere near where I want it to be. By sharing how I’m addressing the issues, my hope is that you can gain some insight on improvements you can make to your own sales funnel that will make a huge difference in the results you’re getting. In this episode you’ll be seeing exactly what has been going on in my funnel, including what’s working well and what areas can be improved on, as well as all the stats and the steps I’m taking to make my funnel more effective. The big takeaway I’d like you to get from this episode is that you really need to know your numbers, and then leverage those stats to make decisions on where you can tweak your funnel. Lastly, don’t forget to review your funnel on a regular basis to make sure that things are working the way that they should be! To get a copy of the downloadable evergreen webinar tracking spreadsheet that I mention in this episode, go to http://rickmulready.com/316. Before we start the show, I’ve got something to ask. At this time we have over 500 5-Star ratings and reviews on Apple Podcasts, which is great, but I’ve set a goal to get 750 of them by the end of Q3, Sept 30th, 2019. The other action steps my team and I have taken to get better results, including a simple upgrade to our opt-in page that made a big impact The most common objection I was hearing from people that weren’t buying the program, and the way I’ve addressed it in my webinar and email follow-up sequence What’s happened since we made the changes to the funnel just a few short weeks ago

Brandi Mowles manages Facebook ads for online experts, but she also has a membership program where she teaches service providers how to scale to consistent $10,000 months, without hiring a team to do it. The first time Brandi was on the show we broke down each side of her business, and she ran through the beta launch of her membership program that she had just completed. Since then she’s done a public launch and she absolutely crushed it, which is why I wanted to have her back to share how she did it, and what she learned in the process. You’re going to hear a step-by-step breakdown of how Brandi did this “full on” launch, including her ad budget, email sequence, and the 3 part-video series that worked so well for her. Although she fell short of her goal to get 1,000 webinar registrations, Brandi still got over 500 people, at an average cost per lead of about $4 (Brandi thought this way too high, but wait until you hear what her impressive earnings per lead number was)! A launch can be overwhelming and Brandi does a great job of running through her thought process and how she handled everything, including negative feedback from one person, as well as how her thinking has shifted in terms of what she will be prioritizing next time. If you’re thinking of launching for the first time, or improving on the process for your next launch, what Brandi has to share today is invaluable! It takes a lot to get me nervous, but I’d by lying if I said I wasn’t nervous about publishing this episode. Today my friend Tiffany Lee Bymaster is flipping the script and turning the tables by interviewing me, and we go really deep with a lot of stuff in this one. You may remember that Amy Porterfield was on the podcast to interview me and give listeners some background on my life back in Episode 200. If you’re a regular listener you know that my life has changed so much since that episode was recorded (including the fact that I’m now a Dad!), which is why I wanted to air this recent conversation with Tiffany. It was several months ago when I reached out to Tiffany and asked her how I could be improving my social media, and she said she wanted to interview me for this show, and now we’re doing it! In this episode you’ll hear me talk about fatherhood, my business evolution, the big realizations I’ve made about business and success since becoming an entrepreneur in 2012, and Tiffany even asks me a series of questions that my students wanted answered too. She also asks me a “lightning round” of questions where I share my favorite food, business book, why I’m a “movie snob” when I go to the movies, some weird facts about me, and a whole lot more. We end the episode on a serious note where I talk about the legacy I want to leave my daughter, and I share the message I’ll want her to hear when she grows up. Although we covered so much in this episode, there was still a lot that Tiffany and I didn’t touch, and she did such a great job interviewing me that I’m definitely going to have her back on the show to do this again. Before we start the show, I’ve got something to ask. My guest today is a member of my current Accelerator mastermind group, and she has been crushing it in just the short time since we started working together! Hallie Sherman is a speech-language pathologist who works full-time in the public school system in New York, and for the last 8 years she’s also been selling digital resources for busy speech-language pathologists online, and I’m sure that her story will resonate with many of the listeners of this podcast. Hallie began selling her resources on a website called Teachers Pay Teachers back in 2012, and after realizing that she only had so many hours in a week, she has now shifted her focus to creating her own “mini-courses” to sell on her own website. Her products are reasonably priced, about $30 for one and $75 for a bundle, and Hallie recently had a very successful launch, generating 5-figures in revenue in just 5 days. In this episode you’ll hear how Hallie has made the transition from “hobby” to a true online business, and what really showed her that her audience wanted more digital offerings from her.  She reveals how she built her email list, which now has over 15,000 subscribers, and the way she launched her first online course to generate those 5-figures in revenue. From listening you’ll note that Hallie is an action taker who always has an open mind, and she doesn’t overcomplicate the process or try to re-invent the wheel. The way she launched is actually the opposite of what I usually teach my students, in that she created the course first and then sold it, but it worked really well for her since she already had the content ready and knew what she was going to have in her mini-courses. Hallie has created amazing momentum in her business so far, and I truly believe the sky is the limit for her when it comes to what she can create in her life and business!  Before we start the show, I’ve got something to ask. These concepts are going to be basic and fundamental in nature, but I find that it’s usually these types of things that are messing us up (and you’ll hear which of these mistakes I’ve been making lately as well). This episode was inspired by what I was saw at our first Accelerator Group Mastermind retreat here in San Diego earlier in the year. I saw that there was an opportunity for our members to make some changes to lower their cost per lead, and in one campaign, a member was able to do just that and lower her cost per lead from $40 to $5, in just a day! How did she do it? She was able to make this significant improvement in cost by implementing what I share on the podcast today, and I feel that you could improve your ad performance as well with a few of these simple tweaks and strategies.  Before we start the show, I’ve got something to ask. Today’s guest is someone that I’ve looked to for mentorship, because he is literally one of my favorite people in the online business space. Casey Graham has started and sold three businesses, and he is now the founder and CEO of a company called Gravy. We started working with Gravy a few years back, and they are the leading experts in helping their clients recover failed payments for subscription-based businesses. Since starting Gravy, Casey and his team have learned a lot of lessons about business and customer psychology that he really opens up about here on this episode. Gravy is now viewed as the “Ritz Carlton of payment recovery”, and Casey does a great job explaining how they differ from collection agencies when I put him on the spot near the start of the interview by asking him that question. We cover a lot of different topics here, including one I’m really interested in right now, which is how we can learn to “turn the switch” off at the end of the day as busy entrepreneurs (and make the most of the time we all have with our families). In this episode Casey reveals his simple strategy for getting someone to give you money (and let me just say that it’s not by using fear tactics), and he also gives his 60-day sequence when working with subscription-based customers. You’ll also learn the ways you can be proactive in retaining paying customers, the four main reasons people will stop paying (and they may not be what you think!) and so much more. Like my other interviews here on the podcast, this one went in a lot of different directions and we covered a lot of things that can benefit entrepreneurs at all stages of their businesses. Whether you are just starting out on your journey or looking to scale to 7-figures, Casey is a great person to learn from because he has integrity and he’s building a business the right way. Jose helps established businesses take their products and service online, and profit from it, and in this episode you’ll hear how he did this with his client Rich, a local fitness trainer who wanted to take his business online after previously doing in-person training and workshops. Jose reveals how Rich went from having very little presence online to selling 25 spots in his 3-month online fitness program, all in matter of just a few weeks. Jose reveals the process, or “personalized road map” he gave Rich that made this possible, including how his client ultimately decided to deliver his course content to the participants. Like me, Jose knew he had a bigger calling to do more than he was doing in the corporate world. He also had a lot of doubts and fears in making the transition, which he is very open about and talks about here. Craig appeared on the podcast back in May last year, where he talked about how he used Instagram Stories to sell over $500,000 at that time in “high ticket” workshops, but you won’t believe the further growth and success he’s seen using the platform since then! As you’ll hear, Craig just started using Instagram in February 2017, and he says he really didn’t know what he was doing for the first month. In April 2017 he made his first $5,000 sale using Instragram, and he hasn’t stopped learning and refining his approach since that time, revealing many of his strategies he now uses in this episode. Craig reveals the single most important thing about Instagram “swipe ups”, as well as giving a call to action that will get your prospects to take action, while allowing you to stay in integrity and fully aligned with your message. He discusses how he qualifies the people who DM him on Instagram, what his message sequence to prospects is and how he uses video in DM to stand out from the crowd. Craig gives us his “VPS” formula to use for successful posts, and he even breaks down some of the posts on both of our actual Instagram feeds (you can find the video of that below)! As Craig says, the biggest thing with Instagram is being intentional about how you’re using it, and he definitely knows what he’s doing as his clients are seeing massive results using his methods – with many of them being in very unique niches.  In fact, one of his clients sold a $28,000 personal training package through Instagram, and another sold a $40,000 massage school using the platform, just to name a few examples! You could start seeing amazing results from your Instagram too, by even implementing just a few tips that Craig shares with us today. Before we start the show, I’ve got something to ask. He’s been in the online space for about 5 years now, beginning by using online marketing to build his own law firm and now focusing on helping online entrepreneurs spot potential issues in their own businesses. In this episode Bobby shares what the transition from practicing to what he’s doing now looked like, as well as some of the early struggles he had in his online business, including a failed launch where he spent $10,000 and made only one sale. Bobby says he really started getting traction last year when he began to really listen to and understand his clients, as well putting into practice what he has learned from this podcast. After starting by offering online courses related to legal issues, Bobby now gives training and charges for his templates. He also helps online entrepreneurs build the foundation for their business and their fan bases, so they can launch their producst successfully. We talk about a lot here and it can be overwhelming to hear about the legal stuff that comes up in business, but the key thing Bobby says is to not it stop you, and there are steps you can take now to make protecting yourself easy. In addition to all the great advice Bobby gives in this episode on how we can protect ourselves as online entrepreneurs, I think what makes Bobby so relatable is that he is open to sharing his own journey, and the struggles he’s faced while building his personal brand. In addition to being one of my students and a coach for my Impact group coaching program, Brandi has just launched her 12-month membership program for service-based entrepreneurs who want to scale to consistent 5-figure months, without hiring a team. You’re going to love her story of how she launched this program and the results she got from the beta launch to a relatively small list of a few hundred people. Brandi is a perfect example that you don’t need everything to be perfect, because she generated $4,000 on this launch before even going public with it! In this episode you’ll hear how Brandi first found this podcast and dove into managing Facebook ads for others, originally getting clients from Facebook groups but maxing out her revenue at about $6,000 a month. She talks about her experiences with local clients from LinkedIn, and why she made the switch back to working exclusively with online service-based entrepreneurs, with great success. Brandi shares the amazing results her clients have seen, starting with an early client from James Wedmore’s Business By Design group whose launch generated about $21,000 in revenue on an ad spend of just $823. Brandi’s now helping that client launch a second time, and through word of mouth referrals, Brandi’s business has absolutely exploded. There is so much in this episode that you can learn from Brandi’s work with her clients, some of them in very niche industries, as well as how she’s successfully building her own business. In fact, Brandi is also a new member of my Accelerator mastermind starting this month, so I’ll be excited to see even more progress she makes over the second half of 2019, and I’d love to bring her back on again to share it all with you. Before we start the show, I’ve got something to ask. How do you listen to this podcast? Is it in the iTunes app, Stitcher, Spotify or maybe iHeart Radio? Do you listen to it at regular speed, or maybe like me you listen to your podcasts at 1.5X speed? I want to know! On the Show Today You’ll Learn: The simple ad campaigns Brandi is using with one client to get leads from cold traffic at just 71 cents, and how she’s getting amazing results for clients with smaller lists with a total ad spend of less than $1,000 The way Brandi uses a questionnaire to get in to the heads of her ad management clients, and how this ultimately leads to better results for their launches Her 7-day pre-launch video testing strategy that is setting up her clients for success, with a spend of only $10 to $20 a day Why Brandi doesn’t want to scale her business and how she resists the temptation to work with everyone that approaches her now The beta launch of her membership program that resulted in 23 people signing up, with a waiting list of more people eager to join The way she’s delivering the content in the membership and her strategy for delivering maximum value to her members What approach Brandi had going into the recent ConvertKit Craft + Commerce event, and what she did once she was there to directly get three new clients from it Why Brandi recently hired a Visibility Strategist, or “Hype Girl” (and what this person is doing for her) Her ideal clients that she wants to work with and the two packages that Brandi now offers to service-based entrepreneurs

Why do so many entrepreneurs struggle with building a team? This is a topic that we haven’t talked a lot about on previous episodes of the podcast, but I’m going to be diving deep into it with my guest Theresa Loe today.  Theresa helps online entrepreneurs find, grow and then lead their own stellar teams. She helps her clients streamline the backend of their businesses so that they actually have the time to work on the vision of the company, which is at the core of the problem for most business owners looking to grow their businesses. As you’ll hear, a lot of this comes back to us having to get past our fears around scaling and getting comfortable with being uncomfortable. The best part of all of this is that you don’t have to hire 10 full-time employees out the gate to help you, and you can absolutely do it in baby steps. You do have to get started with getting the support in you business though, because you really can’t do everything yourself. Although we covered so much in this conversation, there is still so much more I wanted to ask Theresa about scaling the right way, which is why I tell her she’ll have to come back on the show to share her advice and wisdom. On the Show Today You’ll Learn:  What Theresa’s own pivot in business has looked like and how her team has helped her through this transition Both of our personal experiences with perfectionism and the fear of letting go The difference between assigning tasks and assigning responsibility, and why understanding this concept is crucial What to do if you have no idea where to start with hiring your first employee or contractor Theresa’s tips and strategies for the interview process, including why she prefers video interview over phone interviews and why behavioral-based questions are so powerful How you can hire on a trail basis and assign test projects to people you’re considering bringing onboard Whether or not experience in and knowledge of the online space should be required in candidates A mistake I made early on around our systems and processes – and what you can do to avoid making it too What the role of an “integrator” looks like and when is the right time to hire one in your business The reasons you should always be communicating your business values with your team

Joining me today on the podcast is a return guest, Sarah Young. Sarah is the founder of BizTemplateBabe.com, where she creates DIY graphic design templates for online entrepreneurs, and she is actually a new member of my Accelerator mastermind group, starting this July. I asked Sarah to come back on the show because her business has really evolved over the past 14 months since she was last here. She’s now doing multiple 5-figures a month in her business, while only spending a couple of thousand dollars on Facebook and Instagram ads each month. As you’ll hear, it’s really just Sarah working in the business at this point in time, and she’s handling everything from the ads management to customer service. This has been a challenge and she talks about her plans to get support, as well more systems in place, to scale her business going forward. In this episode Sarah dives into how she’s built her business, from first launching on Etsy to validate the business to the mistakes she made getting while it off the ground. We also look at the tactical stuff, like why it took her 6 months to build out her sales funnel, how she’s set her ad campaigns up and the way she’s optimized her paid ads. Sarah also reveals how she’s getting an amazing 60% conversion rate of sales from cold traffic, what’s held her back from scaling her current ad spend, and a whole lot more.  We really break down Sarah’s business today, including what’s working really well for her and what she can tweak and improve on to scale things in the near future, so I think wherever you are in your business you can get valuable insight from what she has to say today. Before we start the show, I’ve got something to ask. How do you listen to this podcast? Is it in the iTunes app, Stitcher, Spotify or maybe iHeart Radio? On the Show Today You’ll Learn: How Sarah learned that offering too many options to your customers isn’t a good thing Her ad strategy for targeting cold traffic and the way that she uses upsells to generate more revenue What her nurture sequence looks like and a complete breakdown of her current sales funnel The way she does beta testing of new products with previous customers who have purchased from her How Sarah is using 30-second video ads to get more sales The average daily budget for her ads and the objective she’s using with her Facebook advertising Exciting partnerships Sarah has in the works and her plans that will allow her to spend more time with her husband and young son Something I feel she needs to let go of in order to get to the next level in business (hint: it’s something I’ve struggled with myself as a business owner!)

On last Wednesday’s episode I shared 7 key lessons that I’ve learned on my way to 7-figures, and as you heard, it took a lot more than just using Facebook and Instagram ad stories. When I was brainstorming ideas for that episode though I came up with four more “bonus” lessons, and I thought it would be a bit too much to cover them all at one time, which is why I’m sharing them with you today. The best part is that these lessons too are applicable to getting your business to 6-figures as well as 7-figures, if you’re at the point in your business where you’re trying to do that. Before we start the show, I’ve got something to ask. How do you listen to this podcast? Is it in the iTunes app, Stitcher, Spotify or maybe iHeart Radio? On the Show Today You’ll Learn: The 7 key lessons from last week’s episode How I learned that less really is more for your online business Why you should validate, then create, your online course and how I successfully launched my very first course using this method That building your “dream team” does not have to be a daunting task Why it’s not just ok to reinvent yourself, and sometimes it’s essential to do this Later this week I’ll be bringing you another Quick Tip episode, where I’m going to be clearing up the confusion around the conversion window, so you won’t want to miss that one.

When I start talking about the different elements it takes to build a successful online business, other than using Facebook and Instagram ad strategies, I often get puzzled looks. I may be known for teaching how to successfully use ads to grow an online business and impact more people, but it took way more than just this for me to grow a thriving 7-figure business in less than 4 years.  On today’s episode I’ll be going into what it took, including things like building a team, positioning myself as an expert, creating and launching courses, memberships and in-person events, and a whole lot more. Yes, ads are important, but they’re really just one piece of the puzzle needed to get to that next level. On today’s episode I’m welcoming back a student of mine to the podcast. The last time Jennifer Myers was here, she was talking about how realtors can grow their business with Facebook and Instagram ads, but this time is different. We’re talking about how she took her business online and launched her very first online program, and what Jennifer had to get past to make it a success. Paid traffic is important, but they’re just one piece of the puzzle in order to have a successful business, and as you’ll hear you need to have things like the right mindset, positioning and the ability to communicate your value proposition to get to that next level. Once Jennifer had these things in place, she finally launched her online program for the first time and did $30,000, with an email list of just 350 people at that time. Jennifer had a lot of mental blocks she had to overcome to take her business online though after building such a successful realty brokerage over the last number of years, which you’ll find out today. This is a case study that so many of you are going to be able to relate to and benefit from. Jennifer is creating the type of business she wants to have, on her own terms, and transforming the lives of so many other real estate agents in the process!
