My guest today, British author and pop culture historian Jon Kremer is appearing on StoryBeat for the second time. He's best known for his memoirs and books detailing the 1960s pop and rock music scene. A long-standing friendship with “Year of the Cat” singer-songwriter, Al Stewart, along with owning his hometown Bournemouth's original vintage vinyl shop led to Jon experiencing many aspects of the UK music industry. The recently released updated version of Jon's book Bournemouth A Go! Go! – A Sixties Memoir features meeting the Beatles in 1963 at the height of Beatlemania in England. Jon also explores his ringside seat for the journey of his close friend, Al Stewart, from playing guitar in a local beat group to international success and hit double platinum albums in the ‘70s. I've read the revised version of Bournemouth A Go! Go! and can tell you it's a fascinating, fun look at what life was like in England during the heady, music-filled ‘60s and ‘70s when everything in the culture was rapidly changing, and possibilities abounded. If you're interested in the beginning of modern rock and pop music in England, and the early years of Al Stewart's career in particular, I highly recommend Bournemouth A Go! Go! to you.In 2024, Jon also published Chain Reaction – Rock ‘n' Pop's Magic Moments, which we chatted about during his first appearance on StoryBeat.

Send us a textA tiki eruption, a budget gamble, and a cold brew quest turned this trip into a string of small wins. We kick things off at Trader Sam's—scoring a quick walk-up, catching the Krakatoa show, and nerding out on the punch's flavor build—then lay out exactly how a cheap motel can still work if you know your pace, your feet, and your priorities. From there, the map becomes edible: Ronto Wrap mornings, Snack-Adjacent lunches, and a split between Lamplight's stripped-down downstairs menu and Jazz Kitchen's rich, balanced plates. We share why a hurricane hits different after a long, muggy walk and how a single upsell at Magic Key Terrace turned into the right shareable at the right time.Coffee is its own storyline. Disneyland's cold brews are on a tear—Black Caf with Cocoa Puffs, the Bear Paw's pecan and salted maple cold foam, a mocha nitro that reads like grown-up dessert—and the sleeper favorite might be the Vietnamese iced coffee from the Joffrey's cart: strong, smooth, and just sweet enough. We compare notes with Walt Disney World and make the case that Anaheim is where the creativity lives, especially if you like your caffeine with texture and personality.Rides and shows bring the balance. Guardians Monsters After Dark is a worthy alternate cut; Haunted Mansion Holiday earns must-do status with a seamless Nightmare Before Christmas overlay; and the new Walt Disney presentation surprises with a thoughtful film, refreshed exhibits, and an animatronic that looks far better in person than on social clips. We talk rope drop choices that backfired and the multipass saves that followed, our best-ever piloting on Smugglers Run, and a rare, fully operational Rise of the Resistance run that reminded us why the hype exists. Through it all, cast interactions and small kindnesses stacked up—seat requests granted, a well-timed scare, and quick help at tap-in—reinforcing a simple truth: pace yourself, pick your musts, and let the rest be joy.If you had to choose one must-sip, one must-bite, and one must-ride from your last trip, what would you pick? Subscribe, share with a Disney friend, and leave a review with your three—let's build the ultimate shortlist together.

When was the last time you allowed yourself to follow an exciting impulse? Maybe it was stopping at that café you always pass, taking the long way home, or booking the trip you've been talking about for years. What if you made space for more of those moments? How much more alive, present, and energized would you feel each day?In this episode, I share how ignoring a simple desire—like stopping at a neighborhood pizzeria—and nearly talking myself out of booking a trip to Sri Lanka and Laos revealed a bigger truth: routines can quietly lock us into autopilot. And when we break them, even briefly, life opens up.By the end of this episode, you'll know exactly how to:Spot the moments when you're drifting through your day without awarenessAct on the unexpected impulses that bring more joy and meaning into your lifeUse simple rituals (like coffee) to re-center and create intentional connectionWhen you put these into practice, you'll feel more present, more fulfilled, and more in control of the direction your life is going—without having to overhaul your entire routine.Life's magic isn't in waiting for “someday.” It's in the moments you choose to embrace today. To subscribe, comment, or as a question, visit www.donnyraus.com.

All summer long, Dad Bod Rap Pod is breaking down the Beastie Boys' legendary career in an album-per-episode miniseries. This week things start to get really interesting as the Boys build their own studio in LA so they can jam with Mario C at the boards and Money Mark on keys, crafting their pivotal album, the eclectic and electric Check Your Head. DBRP hosts Nate LeBlanc, David Ma and Demone Carter are joined by hip-hop trivia king and fellow podcaster Sean Kantrowitz to discuss the Beasties picking their instruments back up, karaoke mics, the Boys' Jewish heritage, and much more. After lots of context is provided and we discuss what we like and are less enthused about on the album, we score the art on a numeric rubric. Disagree with our takes? Please let us know in the comments. Tell us what number you would assign to the Beats, Rhymes, Cultural Impact, Replay-ability and Magic Moments out of 10. Tune in next week as we examine the world-conquering Ill Communication with one of the very best producers of rap music in the world right now, Kenny Segal. 3 Bad Brothers, A Beastie Boys Breakdown is a production of Dad Bod Rap Pod Hosted By Demone Carter, David Ma, and Nate LeBlanc Executive Produced by Nate LeBlanc Produced by Demone Carter and Paolo “Cutso” Bello Edited by Demone Carter and Nate LeBlanc Engineering and Post-Production by Paolo “Cutso” Bello Artwork by Rory Simms Photography by Stephanie Barajas Youtube version produced by Paolo “Cutso” Bello Theme song written and recorded by Defcee and Produced by Cutso Dad Bod Rap Pod is distributed by Open Mike Eagle's Stony Island Audio
