Every single man listening to this is familiar with discipline and has applied it (to varying degrees) in his life. We generally think of discipline as an overall good thing (and, I think it is) but it can often lead to bouts of frustration and unnecessary suffering if utilized incorrectly. My guest today, Craig Ballantyne, makes the case that discipline, although, a powerful force for productivity comes with strings attached, and isn't the end-all, save-all it's often made out to be. Today, we talk about what true discipline is not, why chasing the wrong target is so common and what to do about it, what I call the “self-help hangover” and how to avoid it, why you should know the distinction between standards and expectations, and how to avoid what Craig calls, “The Doom Loop” in your life. What if your greatest strength is also your biggest blind spot? That's the question we're unpacking in this fire episode of The Happy Hustle Podcast. I sat down with Craig Ballantyne—a serial entrepreneur, Wall Street Journal best-selling author, and dubbed “The World's Most Disciplined Man.” This convo isn't just about grinding harder or waking up at 4 AM. Nope. We went deep on why discipline alone can actually wreck your relationships and happiness if you're not careful. This one's for every entrepreneur out there who's chasing greatness—but wondering why it still doesn't feel like enough.Craig drops a truth bomb straight out the gate: Discipline, when left unchecked, can turn into your biggest enemy. In his book “The Dark Side of Discipline,” Craig peels back the curtain on what happens when high achievers go too hard. You're so focused on systems, habits, and routines… that you forget to be human. He knows this firsthand. Back in the day, he was killing it as a fitness expert, but behind the scenes, he was binge drinking on the weekends and battling serious anxiety. He ended up in the ER at 29, thinking he was having a heart attack. That was his wake-up call.So he started eliminating the bad habits, toxic people, and energy-draining environments—and building systems that supported true well-being.One of the most powerful moments in this episode is when Craig talks about the illusion of success. So many of us hustle hard for goals we didn't even choose. Maybe you saw a dude on Instagram with a Lambo and thought, “That's what winning looks like.” But if it costs you your peace, your relationships, or your health—is it really worth it?Craig isn't all talk—he breaks it down with tangible tactics that help you show up as your best self:✅ Elimination: Cut out what's draining you (yes, even that toxic “friend” who's always dragging you to the bar).✅ Preparation: Structure your environment for success—your willpower's not supposed to do all the work.✅ Connection: Accountability is your secret weapon. Tell someone you don't want to disappoint what you're gonna do—and when.Whether it's quitting drinking, launching your biz, or leveling up your health, public accountability can flip the switch from “I'll try” to “I did it.Look, I know how tempting it is to grind 24/7. We've been sold the idea that success means sacrificing everything now to maybe enjoy life someday. But that ain't it.You don't have to choose between success and happiness. You can Happy Hustle. And that's what this episode is all about—finding the balance between ambition and well-being.So if you're ready to stop running someone else's race and start building your own version of success (the joyful, human, connected kind)... hit play on this episode. It's a game-changer.In this episode, we cover: 00:00 The Power of Networking12:59 The Dark Side of Discipline28:21 The Illusion of Success31:07 Tactics for Personal Excellence39:44 Accountability and Connection40:32 The Dark Side of Discipline48:44 Future Pacing for a Fulfilling LifeWhat does happy Hustlin mean to you? Craig says Happy Hustling means that you are setting up yourself for a life where you can be happy. You can be happy and hustle at the same time. And most people think that they're, they're not one in the same, you can, you can have everything that you want and really live a truly great life. The obsession with productivity can become a trap—always chasing the next hack, the next milestone, the next proof of progress. At some point, the grind stops being about growth and starts feeling like a cage, where rest feels like failure and busyness replaces real achievement. The irony is that pushing harder doesn't always lead to better results; sometimes, it just leads to burnout. Real success isn't about how much you do—it's about whether what you're doing actually moves you forward.Craig Ballantyne, known as the World's Most Disciplined Man, is an entrepreneur, author, and business coach specializing in personal development and productivity. He created the Turbulence Training fitness system, owns EarlyToRise.com, and wrote The Dark Side of Discipline and The Perfect Day Formula. Today, he talks about the importance of tackling “level 10 problems”—the biggest challenges in life—rather than getting lost in excessive discipline. He explains how rigid routines can sometimes become a distraction from real growth and success. Join in as young leaders pose inquiries about life, personal development, and beyond!Quotes: “Discipline can be your savior up to a point, but there is a fine line where it can turn into your master. Once crossed, it stops serving you, and instead, you find yourself serving it.” – Craig Ballantyne“The ultimate definition of discipline is putting a level 10 effort into your level 10 problem.” – Craig Ballantyne“Make the world play by your rules. Don't play by the world's rules.” – Craig Ballantyne“We often get lost by focusing on how we look, how we're addressed, and how we signal to others. But it's much more about reinforcing who I am. It's not just about being physically comfortable—though that's important—but also about achieving psychological comfort.” – Matt BeaudreauTakeaways:Identify your top 3 level 10 problems and commit to giving them focused, intentional energy this week.Create a personal narrative that sets clear boundaries, helping you say no to requests that don't align with your core values.Check your daily habits: Are you sacrificing great opportunities by getting stuck on good but less impactful activities?Write out your 3-5 year vision with specific details about your ideal life, using it as a filter for making decisions.Spend 30 minutes this week reflecting on your personal identity - what standards define who you are and want to become? Conclusion:Real success comes from setting clear priorities, staying true to personal values, and not letting outside noise dictate your path. Those who learn to say no to distractions and short-term validation can focus on what truly matters. Every decision should reflect a larger vision rather than a reaction to external expectations. The people who achieve the most are the ones who stay disciplined, think long-term, and refuse to be swayed by fleeting pressures.Pre-order Craig's NEW book Here! - The Dark Side of Discipline

In this episode, I interview Craig Ballantyne, renowned business coach and author, about the importance of discipline, intentionality, and time management in achieving entrepreneurial success. Craig shares his journey of building a life of freedom by delegating low-value tasks, focusing on high-leverage activities, and surrounding himself with opportunities. He explains why living like a billionaire, through outsourcing and strategic investments in people and environments, is crucial for scaling a business. The conversation also dives into personal branding, social media strategies, and how prioritizing the right tasks can transform both your business and personal life. About Craig: Craig believes that anyone has the potential to create their ideal life and build a thriving empire. His own journey began as a broke, anxious farm boy from Ontario, Canada, stuck in a cycle of binge drinking and working as a personal trainer. Through the guidance of mentors, Craig transformed into an Empire Builder, mastering the discipline, clarity, and systems needed for success. Since then, he has founded five 7-figure businesses across different industries, authored three books (including a Wall Street Journal bestseller), and mentored thousands of entrepreneurs—from 9-figure CEOs to busy parents and high school teachers. Craig has helped over 260 entrepreneurs reach their first 7-figure milestones and has guided countless others to achieve more while working less.   ---   Connect with Craig!   Instagram - @realcraigballantyne Website - www.craigballantyne.com   ---

Healthy sleep is just as crucial as healthy eating and doing sports. Moreover, bad sleep can affect your brain functions, your hormonal background, and your work performance. It can increase the risk of getting diseases and even gaining weight. Thanks to our modern pace of life, sleep quality and quantity have drastically decreased, due to what many people started to get poor sleep. Our nightly sleeping posture can make an impact on our health and how we feel. Sleep on your back if you want to look younger for longer. This position causes fewer fine lines and wrinkles because there is no pressing on your face. Moreover, this posture allows you to keep the breasts supported, which prevents sagging. Welcome back to Making Bank. On today's episode, we have a compilation of previous episodes with Erik Van Horn, Nir Eyal, Stefan Georgi, Craig Ballantyne, Phil Jones, Aaron Stokes and Trav Lubinsky and in this episode you will hear tips and tricks from top entrepreneurs about the guide to success.   (2:36) Erik Van Horn Become a better leader. Start making really good hires. And lastly, find the right business partners. Find people that are like you, someone who shares the same vision, same strength. Surround yourself with visionaries to make it work really well. You need someone that enjoys doing their work.    (6:23) Nir Eyal The key to success is all about seeing discomfort differently. So many self help gurus tell us we should be happy all the time. This is not true. Feeling bad isn't bad. Having a bad day isn't bad. Instead we should harness these uncomfortable moments and do things that are helpful instead of hurtful.   (13:00) Stefan Georgi Try to take what you can from people. Take every good point you can find and then you can combine them all and create your own after. Look at a bunch of stuff that is working for your business and try to implement it on your own.   (19:51) Craig Ballantyne A lot of people struggle with bedtime. Go to bed at the same time every night and get up at the same time everyday. Most people would miss their sleeping time and then end up staying longer than usual. Keep an alarm so you can mentally prepare yourself everyday when you sleep. Be consistent with your sleep schedule.   (25:08) Phil Jones When you are selling something to someone, if you do not believe in what you are selling, no amount of marketing skills will sell it for you. People will see right through you and they won't buy from you. Get clear on what you are selling and believe in it so that you can then talk to people about it confidently.    (29:00) Aaron Stokes A lot of us when we are at standstill, we tend to use the easiest way out which is usually not even that great. We just want to save face. However, many times when you are stuck it is usually the ugly, uncomfortable way that is the right one. Never shy yourself from a path that may not be so flashy in order to get out of your swamp.   (33:04) Trav Lubinsky The most important thing is to have a good story. You have to connect with the people that you are telling it to. It needs to resonate with your audience. That is why it is very important to know who you are as a brand and as a person so that you can really connect with your audiences.   Tags: @erikvanhorn  @neyal99  @stefangeorgi  @realcraigballantyne @philmjonesuk  @aaronstokes  @trav
