GUEST'S BIO Kate & Betsy are the co-founders. While both help with all aspects of the business, Kate's expertise and experience lies more in the Airbnb industry, while Betsy has an interior design background. Kate also operates a full-time Airbnb business called Riley and Besty co-owns an interior design business called The Estate of Things. Kate and Betsy have been best friends for a long time, but after Betsy was diagnosed with cancer for the second time, their relationship dynamic changed. Kate became a caretaker and a huge source of support for Betsy, using the experience she gained working in marketing for health and diet brands to assist Betsy in following a medically necessary, extremely strict diet. While Betsy was going through chemotherapy, the two friends began to view life differently and discovered a newfound sense of purpose and joy in one of their favorite hobbies--decorating and designing Kate's Airbnb rental houses. “Nothing is guaranteed. And because of that, it enabled me to be so present and so thankful and aware of how special the whole thing was.” Welcome to Season 3 of the What's New With You series, where we catch up with past guests on the Ali on the Run Show. And we're kicking off this season with professional middle-distance runner Kate Grace! The last time Kate was on the show, in December 2017, she had just left her sponsor, Oiselle, to sign with Nike and join the Bowerman Track Club. Now, three and a half years later, Kate has left BTC and is now a member of Team Boss, training under coach Joe Bosshard. (And she's moving! Kate is in the process of relocating from Portland, OR, to Boulder, CO, to train full-time with the team.) On this episode, Kate talks about her decision to change teams, and talks about how training is different with Coach Joe. Plus, she recaps her races at this year's Olympic Track & Field Trials, where she hoped to make her second Olympic team in the 800m, but ultimately fell short of that goal. But Kate isn't sitting around sulking: She is, in her words, "living her best life" right now, and is fresh off a European revenge tour, where she raced four times (in four different countries) in 10 days, earning two wins and three personal bests in the process. (Her new 800m PR is 1:57.2, which she ran in Monaco.) THE LAST TIME KATE WAS ON THE SHOW: Kate Grace on Episode 53 of the Ali on the Run Show SPONSOR: UCAN. Chaos is that beautiful concept that anyone who understands physics believes that the universe exists. If you remember, I hosted Kate before on Slo Mo, which was a wonderful conversation in which she mentioned she'd been collaborating with a Nobel Prize winning physicist in analyzing chaos from an art and science point of view to reach the conclusion that we're all connected. I almost fainted - I love physics, I love chaos, and I couldn't be more convinced that we're all connected. I had to speak to them. This is Part 1.Kate Daudy is a visual artist and writer based in London and is recognized for her work exploring and re-evaluating the human experience in the context of the natural world. Known for her written interventions in public and private spaces, Kate's work is based on an ancient Chinese literati practice. Sir Kostya Novoselov is a physicist best known for his groundbreaking experiments on graphene, the strongest and thinnest material in existence. The material consists of a single layer of carbon atoms arranged in a hexagonal lattice. The achievement earned Professors Andre Geim and Kostya Novoselov the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2010.In Part 1, listen as we discuss:How Kostya won the Nobel Prize by experimenting with scotch tape and graphite. How Kate and Kostya met through a mutual interest in chaos and our origins. When you deviate from the standard path, you have creativity. If you destroy chaos, do you get more chaos or order? The incredible experiments being done at CERN.We are chaos inside, and our job is to control it.My next book, Scary Smart, releasing September 16.Instagram: @mo_gawdatFacebook: @mo.gawdat.officialTwitter: @mgawdatLinkedIn: /in/mogawdatWebsite: mogawdat.com/podcastConnect with Kate Daudy and Kostya Novoselov at katedaudy.com and acast.com. Welcome back to the Neuroscience Meets Social and Emotional Learning Podcast, for Brain Fact Friday, episode #140 and our first Livestream event. I'm Andrea Samadi, author and educator from Toronto, Canada, now living in the United States, (but broadcasting this livestream from my balcony in HI with my co-host Katherine Alexander-Dobrovolskia who is joining us from London, United Kingdom) and like many of our listeners, we have both been fascinated with learning and understanding the science behind high performance strategies in our schools, sports, and the workplace. If you have been listening to our podcast, you will know that we've uncovered that if we want to improve our social and emotional skills, and experience success in our work and personal lives, it all begins with an understanding of our brain. For our FIRST Livestream event, I've invited my colleague, and good friend Katherine Alexander- Dobrovolskaia, the owner of Talent Investors, who is joining us from London, United Kingdom. Welcome Kate, thank you for coming on my first Live event. You know why I asked you to be here today, right? Kate: give me a guess…maybe something about the fact we are broadcasting from Hawaii…maybe because we've been friends for almost 10 years, meeting in John Assaraf's forum, and now taking our Neurocoaching Certification together? You tell me…. Andrea: Kate, since June is the anniversary of when we launched this podcast (June 2019) and now that we are going into our third year of creating bi-weekly episodes, approaching 100K downloads, reaching over 143 countries, I wanted to do something different. Then add to the mix that this month I hit that mile marker of turning 50, I knew it was time to shake things up. And you've always had an eye for innovation with the work you did with your Best Boss Series[i]. When you did that series, interviewing innovators in business, what do you think stuck out with leaders who rose to the top? What kinds of things did you notice they were doing differently from the rest? Kate: Answer about what you learned from your Best Boss Series. Andrea: Well, since this is Brain Fact Friday, I did want to share something we've recently learned from our Neuroscience coaching training that we are doing together, and invite the listeners to ask questions in the chat. Anything you'd like to know after listening to this podcast if you have been following us, from how we launched, to secrets of inviting such high-quality guests. What do you want to know? I'll let Kate answer the questions, and I'll sit back and relax on my balcony. Q1: Andrea to Kate: Kate, what would you say is something you have learned recently about the brain, as it has applied to your personal and professional life? Kate: Answer…something about the brain that's helped you personally/professionally? What about you, Andrea? What's something important that sticks out for you? Andrea: It was probably from episode #100 with Mary Helen Immordino-Yang “We feel, therefore we learn” and the idea that when we connect emotions to learning, what we are studying goes into long-term memory. This brings in Friederike Fabritius' How the Brain Learns book and her work with peak performance with the idea that we must have FUN with our work to hit those highest levels of peak performance and productivity. Andrea: What about the listeners? Let me know if you have learned anything from this podcast, or any other area about the brain, and how you've used these ideas for improved results? Answer anything that comes in on the chat…. Q2: Andrea to Kate: I've known you for some time now, I think we were accountability partners at one point in time, helping each other stay on track with the projects we were working on. And then life hits, and you've had some extremely difficult times, in addition to the Pandemic. How have you been able to stay on track with life, positivity and look after everything that's going on personally for you if you want to share what's happened in your personal life that's really knocked things off course for you? How are you working with the fears that you have around everything you are dealing with? Kate: How about you, Andrea? Andrea: During difficult times, I've usually found that sticking to routine has helped. Probably because the brain like predictability and doesn't like change, so keeping a daily routine that starts with consistent sleep/wake times has been a good starting point. Then building everything else around that. I had no idea that research has shown that this consistent sleep/wake time is an important marker for productivity (from the interview with Kristen Holmes) from Whoop.com, so much so, that when you wear the Whoop device, it tells you how consistent you are with your sleep/wake times and this can help your health in ways that research is just discovering to be beneficial. I haven't had anything as difficult as you have had to deal with, but I am sure our listeners have. But for those BIG fears…like fear of someone close to you with health problems, I have found Dr. Carolyn Leif's work to be helpful. I did a podcast on her newest book, Cleaning Up Your Mental Mess: 5 Simple Scientifically Proven Steps to Reduce Stress, Anxiety and Toxic Thinking[ii] Andrea: For our listeners? What have you been doing to stay productive during difficult times? Q3: Andrea to Kate: Kate, I shared with you that an area that I know we could improve on in my household (other than sleep which is so easy to master in HI—I've had perfect sleep scores this week because there's no agenda or time pressure on vacation) but other than this area, it would be our meals. With the fact that we all have different schedules (the girls train at the gym every night during the school year, so it's not like we can sit down as a family like my parents did with us growing up) so my dinner is usually at my desk while I'm working and if my husband is home, we will eat together, but it's not always this simple. So, you sent me an incredible cook book that we can use to try some new recipes together. Can you share how cooking as a family has helped you? Kate: answers how cooking as a family has helped them to stay closer. Andrea: How about our listeners? What have you been doing to stay healthy with meals? Or sleep? Since we can't be on vacation all the time and depending on where you live, it might be difficult to still shop for groceries. My Mom told me they just started to open up shopping in Toronto, but before that, I was shipping her items from Amazon that she couldn't get locally. Q4: Andrea to Kate: I know you are a reader, and you always keep me up to date with books that you have been learning from. What books have you been reading this year? Kate: What about you, Andrea, what books are you reading? Andrea: I've always got the book of the next person I'm interviewing on my phone, and love this part of the podcast. Where else in the world do you get to read someone's book and then email them and say “hey, can I pick your brain on your book?” and they say sure, and you get to dive deeper into what they have written, and share it? This is the part of the podcast that amazes me every day. I've got to mention Mandy Krueckebrg Lengrich, a longtime listener of the podcast, who has sent me at least 10 books to read/research. I want to spend some time with these books that she is picking up from her studies in the field of educational neuroscience. (Gabor Mate, Nicole Tetreault/Seth Perler) and her most recent referral of the book Into the Magic Shop by James R Doty, M.D. I've also been fascinated with Dr. Bruce Perry's work, (he's just released a book with Oprah and my friends stop me on the hiking trails saying…you need to interview Dr. Perry). Episode #53 “Self-Regulation and Your Brain: How to Bounce Back Towards Resiliency” was inspired by his recent webinar series. I asked him to be a guest on the podcast last June 2020 and he was in the middle of writing his book “What Happened to You” with Oprah, and he told me to contact him when he's finished the book. A year later, his book is out, and I feel like a stalker, but I don't want to miss an opportunity like that, so I contacted him again, and we are working on getting him on the schedule for October, so this book is always open on my phone. I've also got a fun interview coming in August with Mike Rousell on how surprise impacts the brain. Who doesn't like surprises? His book comes out in September, so the interview will be released right before this book, Andrea: What books are our listeners reading? Q5: Andrea to Kate: You've known me for a while, and I know you love to push me beyond my limits, which I love. We can all use a friend who doesn't let you get comfortable. If you look at the speakers I've had on the podcast, who would you like to see me interview next? Give me a list of some people. Andrea: to listeners: who would the listeners like to hear on the podcast next? Send me some ideas. In Today's Brain Fact Friday You Will Learn: ✔︎ What brain-based strategy Andrea and co-host Kate have found to be the most useful in their personal and professional life? FREE WORKSHOP ~> Have you ever found yourself referring to someone in your life by saying, “They simply don't have any boundaries!”? Maybe it's an overbearing boss or a parent who is all up in your business and you find yourself labeling them as the one who has no boundaries. What if it was actually the other way around… what if it was about YOU who hadn't established any boundaries with them? When someone in your life is forceful and brazen, it can be so easy to assign blame to them and focus on why they are a complete asshat instead of examining the behavior you may be tolerating. Perhaps it's about what you haven't said up until this point… the behavior you continue to allow. And maybe you constantly complain about how frustrating your mom is or how aggravating your co-worker is, yet you complain to the wrong party. To those who may give you sympathy, but who aren't capable of creating any substantial change. On the show this week, I dial up Kate Anthony, a dear friend, colleague and a powerhouse in the field of ultimate boundary setting: maneuvering through divorce. In this candid conversation, we discuss the areas where women tend to struggle with boundaries, tactics to start speaking up for yourself, and how to reclaim your power. And, please don't be fooled… this episode is NOT only about divorce. There is something to be gleaned for any woman struggling to speak up for herself in a powerful way. Get some. This pod explores: The most common areas where women have difficulty speaking up for their wants, needs, and opinions Where [the hell] to start if you know you need to start establishing boundaries The sexual boundary that many women don't even realize is available to them How Kate managed to have a stellar divorce even though her marriage was hugely abusive ______ NEW *FREE* WORKSHOP READY TO GET RID OF PERFECTIONISM, SELF-DOUBT, AND OVERWHELM? This is Slo Mo at its most authentic.Kate is a British visual artist and writer, recognized for her work exploring and re-evaluating the human experience in the context of the natural world. Known for her written interventions in public and private spaces, Daudy’s work is based on an ancient Chinese literati practice.Living and working in London, her observations have fed into an array of artistic disciplines including sound work, film, performance, interactive collaboration, photography, sculpture, large-scale installation and more recently a book. Daudy exhibits worldwide and is also engaged in regular philanthropic and activist commitments. Why is proper composting so important to a farm’s success, and how can you make sure you have the right compost for the best outcomes? Today we’re happy to host Grant and Kate Estrade of Laughing Buddha Nursery in Metairie, Louisiana. In 2003, Grant started Laughing Buddha Nursery out of a simple desire to be his own boss and run a retail shop that met a community need - the then fledgling but growing demand for organic gardening supplies. After Katrina struck the area in 2005, people were concerned about the quality and potential contaminants in their backyard soil. In response, Grant began composting and mixing organic soil blends to supply healthy, lead-free, and nutrient-rich soil products for customers’ gardens. In 2010, Kate joined when she met Grant at Laughing Buddha. Her parents always grew a large vegetable garden and composted and as a teenager she spent summers working at a local garden center. She never imagined going into gardening or agriculture professionally, but we know how these things can work out! Tune in to hear all of their integral and transformative composting tips! You’ll hear: How Kate and Grant got started with Laughing Buddha Nursery 1:50 How their store operates 6:09 Grant and Kate’s composting process 13:59 How they efficiently manage both their farm and their store 24:29 The hardest thing Grant and Kate have done in farming 38:25 What Kate and Grant would do differently given the opportunity to start their farming journey over 54:56 How Grant and Kate build their team 1.02:38 The biggest mistake Grant and Kate see newer farmers making 1.12:28 How they approach the mental game of running their business 1.19:51 Their favorite farming tools 1.26:01 Where you can find out more about Grant, Kate, and Laughing Buddha Nursery 1.30:18 About the Guest:Grant has operated Laughing Buddha Nursery, a retail garden shop that helps people grow vegetables organically, since 2003. After Hurricane Katrina, Laughing Buddha began composting to supply healthy, lead-free, and microbe-rich soil products for customers’ gardens. From 2010-2015, Grant launched and operated a commercial composting division of a sand and aggregate company. He sold his shares of this company in 2015. In 2010, Kate met Grant as a customer of Laughing Buddha (buying worms for her apartment compost bin!) and they got married in 2016. Kate grew up in Wisconsin, graduated from the University of Missouri, served in AmeriCorps, and worked in newspapers and nonprofits prior to farming. On land that was a failed subdivision that they purchased in 2014, together Kate and Grant started Local Cooling Farms, their pasture-based regenerative livestock operation. Their farm model focuses on maximizing nutrient cycling (nature’s loop of production, consumption and decomposition) and raising livestock with respect and dignity to produce healthy protein, restore soil health, and sequester carbon (hence the name!). They also now have their composting operation on the farm. Kate has developed the farm's neighborhood delivery hub model where they sell the vast majority of their farm products (save for a few restaurants and bakeries that purchase eggs), as well as seasonal produce, chicken, lamb, dairy, fermented and preserved goods, bread and pasta, honey, and more from 20 other regional farms and producers. Today’s episode is going to be a “best of” replay of one of the most highly downloaded episodes in 2020. My guest on this episode is Kate Dillon. Kate is in a very niche market. In fact, she’s known as the “Girl Who Sells Race Car Parts” and she has an e-commerce business that at the time of this recording back in January, was projected to break 7-figures in 2020. In this episode we cover her journey in starting and growing her online training business in 2019, and all the lessons that she’s learned along the way. Kate initially created an online course for race car drivers, which she turned into a membership site in the latter part of last year. You’ll hear about the first webinars she did to promote her offering, and what happened when she got intentional with her Facebook ads marketing (and stopped just boosting posts)! She admits that running ads in the beginning was “freaky and scary”, but as you will hear, Kate has done an amazing job on them! Kate uses a ton of videos in her business and is super effective at using Facebook groups in her overall marketing strategy. Kate knows her target audience very well, which allows her to drive all of her messaging and marketing to an audience that isn’t used to purchasing online course offerings. I got so much insight from what she had to say in this conversation so I am excited to bring it back in case you missed this episode the first time! Stay tuned because I am excited to have her back on for an update in 2021! On another note, have you taken my business blindspot quiz yet? We all have blindspots in our business and this quiz will help you identify what your main blind spots are and give you strategies for how to overcome them. The feedback from this quiz has been awesome, so be sure to check it out at rickmulready.com/quiz. On the Show Today You’ll Learn: How Kate got into the race car business after getting her degree in interior decorating What really opened her eyes to the amazing opportunities available in the online space The lessons Kate took from a previous “failure” and the ultimate dream she has for her online business What the process of launching her first course looked like, and why she says that creating it was the “easy part” The way she pivoted to offering a membership program, what her first webinar experience was like, and the way she upped her Facebook ads game for the second one All the stats from her webinar, including ad spend, cost per lead and her insane conversion rate What to consider when determining what audiences to target and messages to use with them The challenges Kate faced in her marketing to her own niche How Kate is continuing to build her email list Links & Resources Mentioned in this Episode: https://rickmulready.com/targetingworkshop https://katedillon.com/ https://katedillon.com/courses/ https://www.winningmotorsportsmarketing.com/courses/winning-motorsports-marketing https://www.instagram.com/katedillon/ https://www.facebook.com/katedilloninc/ https://twitter.com/KateJDillon https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7gEDo8v9DcSH-9X6JfWRkQ https://crateinsider.com/ https://www.instagram.com/crateinsider/ https://www.facebook.com/Crateinsider/ https://twitter.com/CrateInsider https://socialcurator.com/ https://easywebinar.com/ Full show notes available at www.rickmulready.com/447

Today’s show might be exactly what you need. You’re in for the inspiring story of a woman who defied the odds and never gave up on her dream. She’s got gold nuggets of wisdom about believing in yourself and becoming your biggest advocate. Join us! Kate Garnes is a motivational speaker, choreographer, actor, and podcaster. She travels the country to speak, especially to teenagers. Kate uses her story of being told she was never good enough to go on to become a performer at Walt Disney World. She’s gone on to become a gladiator, not because anyone saved her, but because she learned how to save herself. Kate is the author of Mixtape: How to Stop Listening to the Recordings of Your Past. Big dreams Have you dared to dream “big dreams”? From the time she was very young, Kate’s dreams and plans were to be a singer. She planned every step in her life around that dream but overhearing a chance conversation between her parents one day sent her the clear message that she wasn’t good enough. Through high school and college, Kate dabbled in various endeavors because she wasn’t sure what to do with her life. She soon auditioned at Walt Disney World and became a character performer for ten years. At age 28, her dream shifted to becoming a motivational speaker, which is what she does today. It’s a career that she loves and one that fulfills her in ways she could have never imagined. Today, Kate instructs teens on how to be their own biggest advocate and not their biggest critic in dreaming big and fighting to make those dreams come true. TWEET: Be your own biggest advocate in dreaming big to make your dreams come true. @kategarneslive #chasingdreams Believing the lie Do you worry about what other people think about you? Most of us spend way too much time caring about what others think of us and our dreams. Part of the problem in believing in ourselves and chasing our dreams is that we believe the lie that everyone else knows more than we do. It’s the reason we let their words have such a strong influence over us. The truth is that other people don’t notice or think about us nearly as much as we think they do. Why do we give other people such power over us? Kate says we let their words determine our value and squelch our dreams. Why? TWEET: Stop giving other people power over you. @kategarneslive #chasingdreams Detox your life Does your life need a detox? Think about the podcasts, TV shows, movies, and friends that you have in your life. It’s an important principle that we will live out what we are consuming. An important step in chasing your dreams and realizing your worth is to detox your life from things you need to leave behind. There are movies and TV shows that you need to leave behind. There are friends who are full of negativity and criticism that we need to leave behind. Detoxing your life of negativity will leave more room for positive energy. Kate explains why we all need friends who are willing to “get in the mud” with us. TWEET: Detox your life from things you need to leave behind. @kategarneslive #chasingdreams Guest Recommendation: ONE action for a dream chaser to take--”Start asking questions. Ask as many questions as you know to ask, and if you run out, then ask some more. Kate Scopetti is living a full life revolving around a passion for travel, plus an exceptional ability to develop super creative and truly unique experiences, naturally led to the creation of the categorically successful Mid Atlantic Receptive Services, (MARS) and its subsidiaries: Go Performing, Go Student Tours, Go Sports Tours, and SoccerTours.net. Destination on the Left is joined by Kate Scopetti, President and owner of MARS & Companies (Mid-Atlantic Receptive Services). On our podcast, Kate joins us to talk about the group travel industry, the work her organization is doing to prepare for recovery, and why collaborations are more important than ever. She explains her philosophy of “opening our minds to where the opportunities lie,” and talks about how that philosophy is applied in her own businesses. What You Will Learn in This Episode: Kate’s background and her journey into the travel and tourism industry The evolution of MARS & Companies since its inception What MARS & Companies is doing to prepare for recovery after the pandemic How MARS & Companies transformed into a true wholesaler How Kate has used creativity to help MARS stand out from the crowd The different strains of collaboration in the group travel industry Why collaboration is more important than ever in the group travel industry Kate’s philosophy of “opening our minds to where the opportunities lie,” and how that philosophy is applied in her own businesses How the group travel industry has been affected by the global pandemic MARS & Companies Kate Scopetti is the President and owner of MARS & Companies (Mid Atlantic Receptive Services). With a full life revolving around a passion for travel, Kate has developed an exceptional ability to craft extremely creative and truly unique experiences that led to the formation of MARS and its subsidiaries. Transforming into a True Wholesaler MARS & Companies initially started as a receptive company in the Mid Atlantic Region. They developed a substantial following in the DC area as the go-to experts for tour operators and other agents in the area. They worked collaboratively with this regional network of tourism professionals to connect different types of clients with different types of products throughout the year. And from there, they transformed into a true wholesaler. MARS & Companies now offer products around the world, and they still have a significant amount of clients that were with them from the beginning. Creativity in the Group Travel industry Collaboration has enabled Kate to build a powerful foundation and client base, but the use of creativity really helped MARS & Companies stand out from the pack. Kate and her team use creativity to build unique, custom strategies for their clients based on the specific needs and goals of each one. As a wholesaler, they can help their clients grow by expanding their product offerings without adding a significant amount of labor. Using creativity during these difficult times is only going to yield new solutions that will become part of your product line when things pick up again. As we make our way out of this pandemic, that is important to remember. Click here to get your hands on my new free mini course, the Summer Reset! In the introduction of today’s episode, I share what I’m learning inside the book, Fearing the Black Body by Sabrina Strings. As I read, I continue to learn how from the time the slave trade began in the 1500’s and as it continued through the 1800’s, the black body was used to justify slavery. White women and men viewed the black body as grotesque, wording depicted from literature quoted in the book from this timeframe. Religion and faith was also used to elevate thinness- believing that the ability to control fatness and control eating was attached with morality. It’s had me reflecting- NO WONDER now in 2020 we have such deeply ingrained beliefs that how we eat and what we look like is attached with superiority and morality. We can see this now ver badum in the health and wellness industry, both the view the controlling your eating makes you superior and that controlling your body weight makes you elevated, or better than. I hope knowing this helps you to pause and think...do you really want to participate in a system that was used as a means to justify oppression and slavery? Now, to today’s episode! Today on the podcast we have guest Kate Eskuri. When I found Kate it was like finding a long lost like minded sister in this world of holistic health and well being! Kate is a registered nurse, going back to school to get her doctorate in integrative health. She believes in traditional practices backed by modern research, which is totally up my alley. In this episode, you’ll hear us geek out on our love for blending Eastern and Western philosophies, how to be less black and white about your health and wellness rituals and what it means to practice holistic and realistic self care. Kate is the author and founder of the Foundation blog and I know if you enjoy today’s episode you’ll love learning from her blog and following her on Instagram. In this episode we discuss: Kate’s origin story to beginning the Foundation Blog What does foundation mean to Kate and 3 tips or takeaways of foundational health Kate shares about Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, and the process towards self actualization. How we can simplify health and wellness, making it holistic and realistic Gray area of health and wellness, not going to extremes and also blending together the worlds of Eastern medicine and Western medicine philosophies. Join me in a conversation with my friend Kate Northrup, "Do Less" author, as we talk about time-management, work-life balance, and vulnerability. Sometimes we feel we have to hide some part of our parenting because we're afraid of people's judgments. We fear sharing our whole, vulnerable self because disagreement is often met with hostile, dogmatic, judgmental comments. One of the things I’ve worked hard to cultivate is friendships with others where it is ok, desired even, to say your honest (respectful!) opinions. And I think this conversation about vaccinations with Kate exemplifies that type of supportive friendship. [03:18] How entrepreneurship and parenthood converge. [04:34] The origin of "Do Less". [09:02] We have to advocate for ourselves to get our needs met. [12:41] Let’s give our children "trust to show up for themselves". [15:17] “Less preparation, more presence” -Adrienne Maree Brown [17:21] Do less, so that what we do is high quality. [19:48] Avoid "keeping score" and tallying the hours spent being mom, working, etc. [21:47] Looking outside of ourselves for what we "should" be doing can be dangerous. [25:44] Let's talk about vaccinations... [32:16] How Kate handled pushback on her vaccine stance. [38:36] We shouldn't have to walk on eggshells or be afraid of saying the "wrong thing". [42:42] You can't "go there" with everyone, but often if we take the lead and try, we'll be pleasantly surprised. [43:22] How Kate "does it all". [52:35] Stop beating yourself up! If you’re an overachiever, doing less doesn’t feel like the answer to earning more OR achieving your goals. Because doing less feels counterintuitive to both of those things. And by doing less—working less?!—you might feel guilty. You might even feel bad. But according to today’s guest, doing less and scaling back doesn’t mean your business and life is going to fall apart. Instead, it could actually be the turning point you need to become more profitable and creative! Today’s guest recently posted in the Foundations Facebook Group about the success she was having with her Facebook ads, and I knew that I had to feature her here on the podcast. Kate Dillon is in a very niche market (in fact, she’s known as the “Girl Who Sells Race Car Parts") and she has an e-commerce business that will break 7-figures this year. What we really cover in this episode though is her journey in starting and growing her online training business in 2019, and all the lessons that she’s learned along the way. Kate initially created an online course for race car drivers, which she turned into a membership site in the latter part of last year. You’ll hear about the first webinars she did to promote her offering, and what happened when she really got intentional with her Facebook ads marketing (and stopped just boosting posts)! She admits that at first, Ads Manager was “freaky and scary”, but Kate has done an amazing job running her ads to increase the number of people on her webinars, sales, as well building her list, and you’ll hear how she’s done it. Kate uses a ton of videos in her business, and she is effective at using Facebook Groups in her overall marketing strategy, among other things. You’ll really want to listen for how she knows her target audience so well. It’s this knowledge that drives all of Kate’s messaging and marketing to an audience that isn’t used to purchasing online course offerings and trainings. I can’t wait to see how Kate progresses this year, and I got so much insight from what she had to say in this conversation. There is so much good stuff she shares here that you can start using in your own online business too! Want to win a 30-minute strategy session with me? I’ll be drawing one winner at random each month, and all you have to do is give me your feedback on this podcast over at http://rickmulready.com/messenger, telling me what you’d like to hear more of - including topics you’d like to see covered, guests, style and frequency of the show! On the Show Today You’ll Learn: How Kate got into the race car business, after getting her degree in interior decorating and working in architecture for 7 years What really opened her eyes to the amazing opportunities available in the online space The lessons Kate took from a previous “failure” and the ultimate dream she has for her online business What the process of launching her first course looked like, and why she says that creating it was the “easy part” The way she pivoted to offering a membership program, what her first webinar experience was like, and the way she upped her Facebook ads game for the second one All the stats from her webinar, including ad spend, cost per lead and her insane conversion rate What to consider when determining what audiences to target and messages to use with them, plus the challenges Kate faced in her marketing to her own niche How Kate is continuing to build her email list in order to achieve even more success this year
