Welcome to the Lovecars on the Grid Podcast! Tiff Needell and Paul Woodman bring us another roundup of motorsport events from the past week! We had WEC, WRC in Mexico, IMSA, NASCAR, Formula 1 and more! We start our podcast to pay our respects to Susie Moss, who has sadly passed away. The wife of late Sir Stirling Moss was said to still be talking to Sir Stirling even after his death. In Formula 1, we had a fierce race in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Fernando Alonso looked like the car to beat in the Aston Martin during practice. Max Verstappen has engine problems in qualifying, resulting in a 15th place qualifying position. Charles LeClerc was also serving a penalty, which put him back in qualifying too. Verstappen ended up gaining places again, finishing second behind his team mate, Sergio Perez, with Fernando Alonso in 3rd place. What Formula 1 weekend wouldn't be complete without some controversy from the FIA! The WEC were racing at Sebring for a dogfighting race! The win went to Toyota with a 1-2 finish. The WRC was in Mexico, with a win for Sebastian Ogier in the GR Yaris Rally car. NASCAR was at Atlanta, with a thrilling win for Joe Logano in the Ford. Next week, we don't have any car racing in Europe, but we have more NASCAR, and MotoGP on 2 wheels in Portimao!

In this episode, Chris and Marty review two very different documentaries about two very famous names: DeLorean and Ferrari. Chris looks at Framing John DeLorean while Marty goes back to the 1950s (without the aid of Doc Brown's DeLorean, sadly) to watch Ferrari: Race to Immortality. https://www.instagram.com/alclark/ (Al Clark) has announced a new documentary featuring Sir Stirling Moss on the development of the disc brake called https://www.sky.com/watch/title/programme/ae4484fa-e508-4f5c-bf19-d5d2e56f8358 (The Racers That Stopped the World). It's more interesting than it sounds, we promise! Having filmed it with Jaguar while Sir Stirling was alive, Al Clark recently recut it and it is now seeing a release https://www.sky.com/watch/title/programme/ae4484fa-e508-4f5c-bf19-d5d2e56f8358 (on demand and Sky Documentaries). Back to the Future is to get a 35th Anniversary, 4K Blu Ray release, with a replica hoverboard and https://www.backtothefuture.com/news/2020/7/27/back-to-the-future-the-ultimate-trilogy-heads-to-4k-ultra-hd-blu-ray-and-dvd (snippets of new footage)! To compare two legends, Chris watched https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6256978/ (Framing John DeLorean), with reference to https://twitter.com/a1goy (Alex Goy)'s Carfection documentary https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qt5X83NA-pE (DeLorean: The Man, The Car, The People) (and thank you to Alex for your input too!) while Marty reviews https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6622186/ (Ferrari: Race to Immortality). In this episode's 'What has Henry Catchpole been up to this week?' is the https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cuuT2hXB1Ok (Honda E)! Chris kept up the Back to the Future theme with https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OD8430xJRbM (Doc Brown's DeLorean - Jay Leno's Garage), and completely cheated by going for a non-car channel pick. The inimitable Hot Ones on https://www.youtube.com/user/FirstWeFeast (First We Feast), where guests are asked excellent questions while slowly being incapacitated by hot sauce. Marty relived the glory days of sports car racing with an https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Z6iRGHdngw (Aston Martin DBR9 GT1 racer) while his channel pick was https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtbLA0YM6EpwUQhFUyPQU9Q (Driver61). This podcast is a little bit special. On September 16 we took over a small corner of the Drivers' Mess at the Goodwood Revival and interviewed anyone who was passing. It just so happened that Eddie Cheever, Arturo Merzario, Martin Brundle, Sir Stirling Moss, Nick Mason, Rauno Aaltonen, Gerhard Berger, Sir Jackie Stewart, Tom Kristensen, Andy Priaulx and Emanuele Pirro passed by when we were there. As you can imagine, it was an action-packed hour and 20 minutes spent discussing everything from the new BMW DTM machine to why Sir JYS rolled a car, via what Sir Stirling thinks of some of the 'newer' cars at the Revival and why Pirro ended up sending a £5000 cheque to Goodwood. We hope you enjoy it and, as always, let us know what you think about any of the subjects we discuss. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
