In this episode, we complete our quest to find out which fictional character is the ultimate fighter in our 2025 Unmatched tournament! To run the tournament, I identified our 16 most-played Unmatched heroes, then set up some brackets to pit them against each other. A few episodes ago, I reported on the first half of the tournament: the first-round games that whittled our list of heroes to the Elite 8. Today, I'm excited to share the second half of the tournament! As a reminder, the hero who wins each battle isn't necessarily the hero who moves on in the tournament. The teenager and I play a game with each pair of heroes, then discuss the game and the heroes and decide which of the two heroes we like playing the most. That's the hero that moves on to the next round.Achilles, Little Red, Houdini, Invisible Man, Beowulf, Jekyll & Hyde, Shakespeare, and T-Rex! Who will be the champion?Episode Resources:Buy Unmatched sets on Amazon.Listen to our 2023 review of Unmatched.Listen to Part 1 of our 2025 Unmatched tournament.Music:"Open Road," Purple Planet Music"Field of Heroes," Tabletop AudioSend us a textPodcast Links: Order a First Player Token coffee mug. Cosmological Mysteries: The Little Red Dots. Guest: DINESH NANDAL. The James Webb Space Telescopediscovered "little red dots"—compact, bright objects in the early universe that are not easily explained as galaxies or accreting black holes. These findings challenge the standard model of cosmology, suggesting the universe matured much earlier than previously thought by 21st-century scientists.2009 BULLET CLUSTER
PREVIEW FOR LATER TODAY: GUEST DINESH NANDAL. The James Webb Telescope and the Mystery of "Little Red Dots". Cosmologist Dinesh Nandal explains the James Webb telescope's discovery of "little red dots" dating back over 13 billion years. These dots represent the first stars and galaxies of the early universe, which are far larger than previously imagined, offering new insights into the origins of the cosmos.
Happy New Year! 2026 rolls in with a full slate of meetings, farm shows, and shop projects. If one of those shop projects revolves around changing your planter set up or rebuilding row units, this week's guest will be a good resource. Rich Schipf, of Shlipf Precision Ag has probably forgotten more about planter set ups than most of us can claim to have picked up in a lifetime. This week we talk about precision ag, where it came from, where it's going and where you might be leaving profit on the table when it comes to planter set ups.
While trying to take a look at a year in review to finish out 2025, Ryan and Charlie get side-tracked by layers of dust, fire hazards, actual fires, winter shop tasks and worthless tools. It's a good thing that there was nothing really going on in the markets or with the weather.
Will Potter's new book exposes the powerful forces working to obscure reality and suppress protest, and animal agriculture's role in accelerating climate collapse.
Get Started With Muscle Activation Techniques® To Loosen Your Tight & Achy Muscles Without Stretching: https://www.matschaumburg.com Your body is constantly talking to you when you workout, and how you interpret what it is saying will have a big impact on the results you get from your workouts. Oftentimes, when somebody's body tells them they don't like a specific exercise through aches or pains, that can be justification to not do the exercise, but this can be a huge mistake! Avoiding an exercise entirely because of an ache or pain can be a surefire way to limit your strength and mobility, so how do you make sure you are respecting what your body is saying while still helping it get stronger and more mobile? On this week's episode of the Exercise Is Health® podcast, we are discussing a framework that we teach our clients to help determine whether what they are feeling means we need to stop an exercise or whether we can keep going forward. This "red flags" framework will help you navigate all the signals your body sends you when you workout to decide whether you are going in the right direction or you need to change course so you don't get injured. If you have ever felt frustrated because it seems like every exercise you do hurts so you just avoid them altogether, listen up! This conversation can change how you use that "hurting" information during your workouts to make better decisions for your body so you can keep getting stronger without injury. Charlie finally wraps up corn harvest, and that means a weight is lifted as part of a Christmas Miracle. But now we have Bridge Payments to fret about! What the heck are they, how are they calculated and when does it all happen? We have some of those answers to go along with a whole lot of Ryan and Charlie speculation for this week. Weather looks very un-Christmas-like, markets certainly are scrooge-worthy, and Charlie was a winner in harvest Bingo this year. Brought to you by Mac America Ag Finance, Norhtern Indiana: 574-253-3433
Controversy, Questions, Promises and Inaction. This week Ryan and Charlie rehash the headlines of the week, from Indiana re-districting to USDA's dud of a WASDE report. China's commodity buying to Charlie's harvest progress. Farmer Bridge Payments to bi-polar weather patterns. The thoughts and comments in our discussions this week may surprise you...or perhaps they wont. Either way, we probably don't care...as long as we provoke thought.

Ryan is already deep into meeting season. Charlie is still harvesting corn in the snow. Temps have already pushed below zero and the markets still suck. But we ponder this: How many times have you lamented about what is wrong with your world, your community or your country, and wanted it to be different? This week we sit down with Mike Thompson, a District Sales Manager for a regional seed company who has decided to try and make a difference by running for the Indiana State Senate seat in District 17. After recapping the year in the field on test plots, genetics and what's in the pipeline, we shift to his senate run, the thought process and ask "have you gone mental, man?"...but in a polite and curious way. This episode speaks a lot about ambition, loyalty, community pride and setting an example.
Where did “The Little House on the Prairie” go? It's probably in foreclosure and will be sold to a private equity company to build nondescript condominiums. Mark Eads returns as we discuss land use. While its easy to see black and white when it comes to the best and most prudent use of prime farm land, there is plenty of gray area and questions that surround present and future development as well when it comes down to it. There are some winners and plenty of losers in this high stakes game.

The 365 Days of Astronomy, the daily podcast of the International Year of Astronomy 2009
From October 15, 2025. The Universe is hard enough to figure out without one kind of object dressing up as another, but - just in time for Halloween - researchers have figured out that the Little Red Dot in the early Universe just might be massive black holes surrounded in a costume of glowing red gas. Also in this episode, Hyabusa2's amusingly tiny destination, a white dwarf star eating what may be an icy dwarf planet, and tales from the launch pad. Astronomy Cast Ep. 769: Little Red Dots By Fraser Cain & Dr. Pamela Gay Streamed live on Oct 20, 2025. New instruments bring new mysteries, and when James Webb came on line it uncovered a collection of strange, compact, bright objects shifted deeply into the red end of the spectrum. These were dubbed "Little red dots" or LRDs. And the astronomical community continues to puzzle over what they are. When JWST first peered into the distant past, it discovered the early universe had a rash of little red dots. Their existence just 450 million years after the big bang meant either galaxies were forming way faster than anyone predicted, or something unimagined had been found. Webb Telescope Challenges Cosmology Theories with 'Little Red Dots' Guest Name: Bob Zimmerman Summary:The Webb Space Telescope is finding mysterious "little red dots" in the very early universe, observed via infrared due to redshift. Astronomers speculate these might be supermassive black holes, which shouldn't exist so early, challenging the Big Bang theory itself. About 30% of these dots do not appear compact when viewed in ultraviolet light, resembling galaxies instead. 1958
HEADLINE: Solving the Mystery of Bright Red Dots in the Early Universe GUEST NAME: Dr. Joel LejaSUMMARY: John Batchelor interviews Dr. Joel Leja about "little red dots"—extremely bright, mysteriously common objects discovered in the early universe by the James Webb Space Telescope. These enigmatic red dots appear to be early supermassive black holes, possibly tens of millions of solar masses, revealed by intensely hot gas swirling at tremendous velocities around them. Their unexpected abundance and size so close to the universe's beginning poses a fundamental challenge to current theories of cosmic evolution and black hole formation. The discovery suggests that supermassive black holes formed much earlier and more rapidly than previously thought possible, requiring astronomers to reconsider models of how the first galaxies and their central black holes emerged from the primordial darkness. Dr. Leja explains that while the JWST data strongly indicates these are black holes based on spectroscopic signatures, the mechanism that allowed such massive objects to form so quickly after the Big Bang remains one of astronomy's most perplexing new mysteries. The research highlights how advanced telescopes continue to overturn established assumptions about the early universe's structure and evolution.
September 1998 brought a chilling moment in Bismarck, North Dakota, when 17-year-old Aimee walked into the police station. She suspected her boyfriend, Brian Erickstad, had harmed his parents. A welfare check was meant to set things straight — but it uncovered something far worse. Episode 1, A Little Red Car, introduces Barbara and Gordon Erickstad's case, a North Dakota true crime story that exposed violence hidden within a circle of teens. The Little Red River is a unique fishery hidden in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas that boasts a world class trout fishery and some unique angling opportunities. The Greers Ferry Dam releases deep, cold water that supports stocked and naturalized trout in the river below. About 30 miles from the cold-water release, the river begins to transition from cold to warm water, and a variety of unique fishing opportunities have developed. Wes asked Dr. Steve Lochmann to return to Fish University and provide an update on his ongoing research activities and to tell us about this stretch of water where you can catch trophy brown trout, smallmouth bass and walleye, and warm water species like blue catfish, crappie, and largemouth bass. Not to mention non-game species like darters, suckers, and invasive species including snakeheads and bigheaded carp! Do you have questions or comments? Follow the Fish University Facebook community and chat with Wes or suggest future episodes!

Mickey Huff hosts this week's show, together with guest co-host Mischa Geracoulis (who is also Project Censored's Managing Editor). In the first half-hour, Mickey speaks with investigative journalist Will Potter. Potter's new book “Little Red Barns,” identifies the many destructive impacts wrought by factory farming — on animals, on farm communities, on the world's climate, and on human health. He also exposes Big Ag's tactics to suppress the truth about the harms it causes. Then Mischa Geracoulis interviews Heidi Boghosian about her new book, “Cyber Citizens.” Boghosian contends that, in a world of pervasive connectivity, Americans must practice ‘cyber hygiene' not only individually, as a precaution against identity theft, but also collectively, in defense of democratic rights. . Gandalf worries that the dragon Sauron might use with terrible effect; Sara worries that the bad jokes Alan might use with terrible effect. Join The Man of the West and The Shieldmaiden of Rohan as we begin our longer-than-expected look into The Quest of Erebor from Unfinished Tales, as a sidebar to our walk through Appendix A III on Durin's Folk. Gandalf is overtaken by Thorin on the road to Bree (“Thorin, you're much too fast!”), underestimates how much damage 20 years can do to an adventurous hobbit, and reluctantly agrees to look after his darling. Alan and Sara discuss Gandalf's fitness fashion, wish Dwarves would stop bequeathing vengeance, and speculate about Sauron's new hobbies. Also, I got that reference! Learn more about your ad choices.
