Theodora Blanchfield is a Los Angeles-based writer and started her, blog Preppy Runner, in 2009. As a journalist by training, her writing has always followed her life. She's written on everything from weight loss to running (a seven-time marathoner!) to mental health. Theodora struggled with depression and anxiety, and then grief, after losing her mom to ovarian cancer in July 2017. Through sharing her struggles, she's learned the power of vulnerability. Theodora recently completed her masters in clinical psychology and plans to purse a career as a therapist. Theodora and I chatted about how loss inspired her to go back to school to become a therapist. She also shares some details about her experience with ketamine for depression and how to proactively manage stress. In this episode, Al interviews Theodora Blanchfield on the topic of receiving ketamine infusions (recorded 8-10-21). For the past five years or so, Theodora had been struggling with severe depression. In that time, she was hospitalized twice for suicidal ideation and spent six weeks at an in-patient program. Her therapist then suggested ketamine. After a great deal of research, Theodora decided to give it a shot. She describes her first session in great detail and the immediate, positive impact it had on her. After an initial schedule of eight infusions in a two-week period, Theodora occasionally goes back for a 'bump'. Theodora is a social media consultant, a writer, and a running coach. This week was a hard week to summarize. We started with a summary of all of what's currently going on with the controversy regarding and subsequent statements from both Rachael Kirkconnell and Chris Harrison. Below are the different things mentioned in the episode if you have not already seen or listened to them: - Rachel Lindsay and Van Lathan's Reddit AMA: https://bit.ly/3dvoDlI; - Rachel Lindsay's episode on Higher Learning that goes behind the interview with Chris Harrison: https://apple.co/3k9ab3V; - The Blckchelorette's Instagram video in response to both the situation with Rachael Kirkconnell and Chris Harrison: https://bit.ly/37uW584; - Bachelor Data's analysis on the racial composition and screen time split for the women of Season 25: https://bit.ly/3k2AusJ It's a hard shift from the important topics in Bachelor news to go on to the episode, which made me think about skipping a recap at all. The second part of the podcast goes into this week's show mainly because we're finally getting to hear from so many of the women we haven't had enough time with thus far and I wanted to get the chance to talk about them and their stories. I'm joined by mental health advocate and blogger (https://preppyrunner.com) Theodora Blanchfield to discuss who goes home this week - some Matt's doing some self-selecting out, some of the questionable things they chose for these 1:1 dates and what we have in store for the rest of the season.

Today’s podcast is a special one and I’m so happy to share it with you! I’m chatting with writer and fitness instructor Theodora Blanchfield, creator of The Preppy Runner, and the Podcast, This May Be Oversharing, whose talents and interests are many. In this episode, she discusses how, through various professional and personal experiences, she leaned into her inner strength and determination to follow her individual journey, creating a life where she can nurture both her physical and mental wellbeing.    Here are some of my key takeaways from my chat with Theodora:     Nurturing one’s emotional health is key.     Journaling can be a transformative process as it helps clear your mind, allowing you to focus on what matters most.     The mantra “You have everything you need inside of you” is one which can help us through challenging times.     Our mental state is closely intertwined with our physical state, so listen closely to your body to learn how you’re truly feeling.   Theodora Blanchfield is a writer, run coach, certified yoga instructor and certified personal trainer. She is the creator of the fitness and running blog Preppy Runner, which she started in 2009 and the host of the This May Be Oversharing podcast, because she believes that the things we don’t talk about are the things we need to talk about.   After losing 50 pounds 10 years ago, she became addicted to fitness and running — and has now run 30+ half marathons and 7 marathons and loves coaching runners to learn about the life-changing powers of running. (She sort of likes running.)   A mental health advocate, she also writes about her own struggles with depression, anxiety and grief after losing her mom.   She’s been published in outlets including Glamour, Cosmo, Women’s Health, Healthline and more, and she’s currently working on a book proposal for a book she’s calling So Many Parents, Even More Therapists: Finding My Birthparents, Losing My Mom, Finding Myself.   You can connect with Theodora Blanchfield via her website, Instagram, Twitter, and This Might be Oversharing podcast.

Welcome to This May Be Oversharing. I firmly believe that the things we're afraid to talk about are the things we SHOULD be talking about, so I'm going to tackle all of that here. Mental health, grief, career, running—let's get into all of it! I'm your host, Theodora Blanchfield, and I'm a writer with bylines in Women's Health, Prevention, Bustle, Mic and Daily Burn, among others. I'm also a certified yoga teacher, personal trainer and running coach, so I have some credentials to back up some of my fitness talk. I also blog at Preppy Runner, where I've been writing since 2009 (RIP Losing Weight in the City!)
