In this episode of Grandma's Silver, Allie Kochinsky is joined by Jessica Chaney, founder of Lycette Designs, for a conversation on needlepoint as more than just a pastime, but a practice rooted in patience, memory, and home.Together, they explore why this traditional craft is finding new relevance today, and what it offers in a culture that often prioritizes speed and convenience. From heirloom pillows to hand-stitched canvases, needlepoint occupies a unique space, both decorative and personal, shaped as much by the process as the finished piece.Jessica discusses the quiet discipline of making something by hand, how these objects evolve over time, and why they so often become part of a home's story. RESOURCESShop Lycette Designs online.Plan a trip to the store(s).Follow along on Instagram, TikTok, and/or Pinterest. If you enjoy Grandma's Silver, follow the podcast and share this episode with a friend who loves heritage, design, and timeless living.

Today the museum preserves not only the architecture and interiors of the house, but also the broader story of how Flagler's railroad and hotel ventures transformed Florida's east coast and helped establish Palm Beach as a winter resort destination. In our conversation, Campbell, the museum's Chief Curator, shares how the museum interprets this history for modern audiences, what visitors often find most surprising when they walk through the house, and how historic spaces like Whitehall help us understand the social life, design sensibilities, and ambitions of the Gilded Age.We discuss:The creation of Whitehall and its remarkable architectureHenry Flagler's role in shaping Palm Beach and Florida tourismHow the Flagler Museum brings Gilded Age history to life todayWhy historic houses continue to resonate with modern visitorsFor anyone who loves design history, Palm Beach culture, or the stories behind America's great houses, this episode offers a fascinating look inside one of the country's most iconic historic homes.RESOURCES:Plan your visit to the Flagler Museum, check out their exhibitions, or view upcoming events here.Follow along on Instagram and/or Facebook. On the morning of August 26, 1986, a cyclist in New York's Central Park discovered the body eighteen-year-old Jennifer Levin. Among other things, Levin had been strangled, there were superficial injuries on her face, and her shirt was pulled up. Later, the medical examiner reported that Jennifer had died only about an hour before she was discovered. It didn't take long for investigators to find Levin's assailant, after several patrons at a nearby bar reported seeing her with a man the night before. That man turned out to be nineteen-year-old Robert Chambers Jr., a privileged members of New York's Upper East Side high society. At first, Chambers denied having anything to do with the murder, but soon changed his story and claimed Levin had died during consensual “rough sex” initiated by Levin herself.Nicknamed the “The Preppy Killer” by the press, a reference to his good looks and obvious privilege, Chambers' trial became a media circus. Over the course of more than a year, people around the country watched as the defense tried—and with the help of the press, succeeded—to put the responsibility for Levin's murder on the victim, emphasizing her sexual history and manner of dress, among other things.
