1993 is where the time machine takes us tonight as we listen to some early studio and live recordings of the Tom Gary Blues Band. These are so old that I don't remember recording most of them:-) The studio recordings that come first feature Tom Gary on piano and vocal, with Billy Birch on sax, Probably Harry Michaels on guitar, and Steve Green on drums. The two live songs were from a show at Connie's Lounge with the Tom Gary Blues Band, Jonny and the Soul Searchers, and Scotty and the Wingtips. Unfortunately only two songs so far exist. (I am pretty sure I have at least all of my band recorded somewhere) Those two songs feature Dave Nesvette on guitar, Billy Birch on sax, Jay Weaver on bass, and Jimmy Smith on the drums. From 1988 its Blue Collar, a band that I played with in Kansas City. This is our original music ( i was wrong on the intro, when I thought it had cover tunes. I was actualy listening to two tapes at the time:-) It features Rick Jaques on Guitar, bass, drums and vocals, Tom Gary on Keyboard, guitar, key bass, and vocal, and Dave McConnel on Drums and back up vocals. It was recorded by Rick Jaques sometime around 1988. It is a mono mix, but sounds great. Somewhere I have most of these songs in stereo and with Dave on lead vocals. We go in the way back machine to sometime in the summer of 1994. It is a demo tape recorded by the third version of the Tom Gary Blues Band. Some of these recordings ended up on Yesterday and Today released in 2008. Tonights show stars John Lukehart on guitar and vocals, John Woody Wood on drums and vocals, Jim Faar on bass guitar, and Tom Gary on piano and vocals. Cassette release recorded in 1992, and released in 1994. It was recorded in Otho Iowa at Juniors Motel. It took about an hour to record pretty much one take. Kurk Kaufmann produced and engineered the session. It is just me and the piano. I never really intended to release it as a product, but a couple years later I put it out as my second cassette. Blue Collar was a studio band from Kansas City that was around in the late 80s. Rick Jaques led the band and played guitar and sometimes bass. Dave McConnell sang and played drums and Tom Gary sang and played keyboards. This version of the band played one live gig, but recorded many hours of great blues both cover and originals. As our characters get to know each other, the gala is interrupted by MURDER MOST FOUL! Join our campaign as Jonas (Vlad), Dan (Darryk), Tom (Gary), and Eli (Herpty-Derpty), led by DM John, begin their adventure into the unknown.
