What really matter is: Will Abbott's leadership model change or just bring the same ineffective, tepid effort we've seen this year and in past years? An old friend of Pratt on Texas, Senator Drew Springer, announced today he would not run for re-election. One media outlet said: “Press released shocked many.” Sadly it is true, way too many cannot understand the American idea of a citizen legislator who is able to walk away from the Austin, or D.C., club. That's part of what's wrong with our country. Good job Drew and enjoy dry feet out of the swamp in the future.Listen on the radio, or station stream, at 5pm Central. The news of Texas covered today includes:Our Lone Star story of the day: Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick crows loudly that the Senate has handled almost all of the Special Session call agenda in the first week – and rightly points out that the House has done nothing.Lot's of the Senate crowing is over passing a so-called school choice bill that effectively would apply to only about one-percent of Texas public school children!Governor Abbott is saying the school choice bill must apply to all Texas school children and that he will only put teacher pay on the call if the House passes the school choice bill. Will Abbott go along with the ruse that a bill that only works for one-percent, or heck even twenty-percent, of Texas school children is actually school choice? If it stays as is, with the funding that has been passed in the Regular Session, of courses the House can pass a bill but it won't be an effective, authentic school choice bill. Government schools need to earn their way in society as does every other sector. Our Lone Star story of the day is sponsored by Allied Compliance Services providing the best service in DOT, business and personal drug and alcohol testing since 1995.House Speaker Dade Phelan Bans Lawmaker From Asking Question.Judge rules Galveston County violated Voting Rights Act in redistricting – more perpetuation of a soft bigotry that certain minorities are not able to play in the same sandbox as everyone else! The very idea that a black community cannot be adequately represented by a non-black person is little different than a Democrat-KKK argument that whites cannot be represented well by a black person – a pernicious way of thinking.Oil and gas drilling rig count rises.San Antonio lands another big manufacturing plant: JBC of Great Britain. 1,500 jobs expected over next few years. The news of Texas covered today includes:Our Lone Star story of the day: Governor Abbott steps us busing of illegal aliens from El Paso to other states; deploys more National Guard to El Paso and has them stringing some barbed wire, and; sends President Biden a nasty letter good for nothing but political points in the conservative press. So far its all political theater but a real crisis on the ground. Will Abbott actually send guard members and DPS troopers to actually prevent the illegal crossing of the border? Until that's done it is mostly hot air.About the case the Supreme Court stepped into relating to Title 42.Our Lone Star story of the day is sponsored by Allied Compliance Services providing the best service in DOT, business and personal drug and alcohol testing since 1995.Very large companies in Texas are pressing for a renewal of the crony capitalism handouts of Chapter 313 in the next legislative session. Two polls taken after the Uvalde shooting. One on Monday shows Abbott up 19 points over Beto. The other taken Wednesday shows Beto closing the gap to 5 points. What's the truth? Will Beto get a Uvalde bump heading into November's Governor election? Will Abbott getting out in front by asking the Legislature for "special committees" and possibly a special session insulate him? Or will it get him in trouble with conservatives? Brian Phillips of the Texas Public Policy Foundation joins Rick to talk about all that. The Rick Roberts Show is on NewsTalk 820 WBAP ... The news of Texas covered today includes:Our Lone Star story of the day: The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, our supreme court for criminal law matters, rules that the Texas Attorney General may not prosecute election fraud cases without a referral from local prosecutors. While the decision is sound constitutionally, it guts prosecuting election fraud in much of Texas because local Leftist district attorneys will not look at cases and certainly will not refer them to the A.G. for prosecution. The issue is easily fixed by Abbott calling a Special Session of the legislature to pass a constitutional amendment that will then need a vote of the people. Will Abbott lead and take care of this or will he let it slide by effectively ending most prosecution of election fraud in the 2022 November election? Our Lone Star story of the day is sponsored by Allied Compliance Services providing the best service in DOT, business and personal drug and alcohol testing since 1995.The Dallas Morning News editorial board comes out with an extra-stupid position: “Texas election audit undermines democracy.”The Houston Chronicle's editorial board suggests putting people in prison for not locking up their weapons which would render them useless for rapid self-defense.Abbott's border “barrier” of razor wire and shipping containers proves to be nothing but theater.
