„Voetbal is alles voor me, voetbal is mijn leven.” Support the show: https://krant.nl/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

For further details go to https://saily.com/lwos On this edition of the show we return to discuss Tottenham Hotspur making an offer to sign defender Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton & Hove Albion. The proposal for the 25-year-old fell short of Brighton's valuation, but talks continue and as a direct result of how serious the bid was, a transfer could be finalised before the World Cup with the player keen on the move. Barring any late disasters, free transfers for left-back Andy Robertson and left-sided centre-back Marcos Senesi are expected to be pushed through to be announced after the Premier League transfer window opens on June 15. Both players currently have contracts with Liverpool and Bournemouth respectively until the end of this month. Spurs are getting two ball-playing defenders, the numbers back that up. Senesi and Van Hecke are a level above Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven in terms of passing ability, we discuss where that leaves Spurs other defenders and who are vulnerable to a summer move. Romero's future looks increasingly like being spent away from the club next season once the World Cup is done, with the expectation since January that he would leave, we discuss if we are all ready to see the captain depart. We also discuss Spurs' ongoing pursuit of Savinho, with Tottenham considering making an offer, however no direct approach to Man City has yet been made one could come in the next few days. Tottenham also want a central midfielder who can pass from deep, and are among the clubs who like Hayden Hackney, but it's believed that Roberto De Zerbi has put forward Bruno Guimarães to Tottenham Hotspur and he is viewed as a dream target; however a deal would be tough to do, we reflect on whether that would truly show the ambition of the football club. We close on what would be logical window in terms of what Spurs need to rebuild with Roberto De Zerbi only having to navigate one-game-a-week without any European commitments. In this episode of The Joy of Football Podcast, Martin Tyler and Neil Barnett break down a huge week in football - from FA Cup semi-finals and Chelsea's ongoing struggles to the deeper issues shaping the modern game. The episode opens with a brand new segment, One Week, reflecting on a dramatic run of fixtures including Chelsea's turbulent performances against Brighton & Hove Albion and Leeds United. From a damaging defeat at Brighton to a much-improved display at Wembley, the conversation dives into the inconsistency at Chelsea - with players like Levi Colwill, Tammy Abraham, and Fikayo Tomori referenced as part of a wider discussion around standards, effort, and identity at Stamford Bridge. There's also discussion around fan unrest at Chelsea, with chants referencing Todd Boehly, Clearlake Capital, and even Roman Abramovich, highlighting the growing disconnect between supporters and ownership during a difficult period for the club. In Letter from the Gantry, Martin reflects on FA Cup semi-final history - from Southampton's brave performance against Manchester City to unforgettable moments involving clubs like Coventry City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Oldham Athletic. Legendary names, including Sir Alex Ferguson, Arsène Wenger, Ryan Giggs, Dennis Bergkamp, and Mark Robins, all feature in a rich look at football history and why semi-final losers should never be forgotten. The Voice of Passion segment delivers a powerful take on how modern football clubs are run, using Chelsea as the central example. Neil questions the current structure involving owners, sporting directors, and head coaches, arguing that the traditional manager, in the mould of Sir Alex Ferguson or José Mourinho, should still be the central figure. Pep Guardiola is also discussed, with his control at Manchester City highlighted as a model of how elite football leadership should function. In Three of the Best, attention turns to standout individuals across the game. Young goalkeeper Senne Lammens (linked with Manchester United) is highlighted alongside Sunderland's Anthony Patterson, while experienced players like Callum Wilson and Pascal Groß are praised for their quality and intelligence. There's also recognition for Ollie Pearce and Nottingham Forest's Ola Aina, whose performances continue to grow in importance. The episode also touches on major names across world football, including Edouard Mendy, Riyad Mahrez, and Ivan Toney, as well as discussions around international football, the World Cup, and elite-level performance. From Chelsea's identity crisis and Brighton's dominance to Pep Guardiola's influence, Manchester City's consistency, and the enduring magic of the FA Cup, this episode is packed with insight, debate, and storytelling from across the football world.

The latest talkSPORT Daily Podcast is out now, with Majestic and Alan Pardew breaking down all the weekend's drama. Manchester City beat Arsenal 2-1 as Erling Haaland fired the winner to heat up the title race. Aston Villa edged Sunderland 4-3 late on, while Liverpool saw off Everton 2-1 thanks to a stoppage-time goal from Virgil van Dijk. Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur suffered late heartbreak as Georginio Rutter grabbed a 95th-minute equaliser for Brighton & Hove Albion. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Host Ricky Sacks is joined by Broadcaster Russ Williams, Luke and Marlon as Tottenham Hotspur's Premier League survival hopes were hit by a crushing 95th-minute Georginio Rutter equaliser as in-form Brighton left Spurs languishing in the relegation zone by grabbing a 2-2 draw. In what was Roberto De Zerbi's first home game in charge as our Head Coach – coincidentally against his former side – we took a 2-1 lead into the final stages thanks to a truly stunning Xavi Simons curler in the 77th minute and looked to be holding on until Georginio Rutter smashed home from just inside the area to snatch away the win. Spurs will now spend another week in the bottom three as we discuss where the result leaves Spurs in our battle to retain our Premier League status along with whether Xavi Simons can potentially provide the critical spark in keeping Spurs in the division. Simons' goal had looked like it would be the turning point in Spurs' battle for Premier League survival. A moment of wild celebration to launch from. Instead, their failure to get over the line and win has amplified the feeling this team is only going one way, as we reflect the continued individual errors that plagued our season, meaning that a win at Premier League bottom club Wolves next weekend is now essential. The 37-year-old ex-midfielder revealed he hoped the Italian would one day take charge in Spurs after playing under his guidance at then-Serie A side Benevento in 2018, serving as his captain during that period. With us as a player between 2010 and 2014 and now a regular matchday hospitality host at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Sandro also cut his teeth as a coach under Roberto during the latter's time at the helm of Brighton & Hove Albion. Sandro says he's delighted to see one of his mentors take over at the club and believes the 46-year-old has the qualities needed to make a real impact on the squad and even revealed how a special invitation from Roberto once meant he was unable to celebrate a Spurs victory! We finally close on whether Sandro could be part of Roberto's coaching staff and his dream to one day manage Tottenham Hotspur.
