In this episode, Alex talks with Charna Cassell, a Trauma-Trained Psychotherapist and Sexuality Coach from Oakland who combines somatic coaching, bodywork, and energy medicine in her practice. Charna explains why talk therapy often fails to create change in trauma recovery, and how physical practices can transform the nervous system in ways cognitive understanding cannot.Charna shares her journey through "boundary bootcamp" at Good Vibrations and her training at the Strozzi Institute. "I really needed physical practice," she says about why ten years of talk therapy created awareness but didn't change her nervous system responses.Throughout the conversation, Charna demonstrates somatic exercises that reveal embodied habits. She explains how our bodies show our patterns under minimal stress and introduces the concept that "until you have an embodied No, you can't have a genuine Yes." The episode covers how repetition creates new neural pathways—like a deer path that becomes visible after being walked repeatedly—and how practice transforms boundaries from rigid or absent to compassionate.Key Highlights: 00:00 Introduction to Charna04:06 Boundary bootcamp experience10:15 Strozzi Institute training14:47 Current practice overview18:36 Contact exercise demonstration24:02 Freeze response explained27:45 Boundary progression stages31:42 Healing relationship boundaries33:16 Bodywork benefits described37:54 Kundalini yoga journey40:31 Managing collective fear42:27 Breath of fire technique44:04 Ways to work with CharnaLinks & ResourcesWebsite: https://charnacassell.com/Website:https://passionatelife.org/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/laidopenpodcastFacebookL: https://www.facebook.com/LaidOpenPodcast/ Podcast: https://charnacassell.com/laidopen/Find us Online: Sign up for our newsletter to learn more about the power of embodiment:https://www.redbeardsomatictherapy.com/Follow us on social media:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/RedBeardSomaticTherapyInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/redbeardsomatictherapyLinkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/alexandermgreene

Iran's war with Israel and the U.S. has been waged through numerous proxies — Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis in Yemen — but more recently, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, or IRGC, have been “outsourcing” their operations on foreign soil to lesser-known actors. At least 33 attempted hits and abductions have allegedly been orchestrated from Iran since 2020, carried out by individuals with little or no obvious connection to the Islamic Republic. Pakistani citizens have been foiled plotting attacks in Greece, and an Azerbaijani gang was recruited in the U.S. to assassinate an Iranian American journalist. Iran's tactics are becoming increasingly reckless abroad, stoking fear among its known enemies — whether Israeli citizens or Iranian dissidents living in exile. This week on Whale Hunting, Bradley is joined in the studio by Reuters features editor Cassell Bryan-Low. They discuss Cassell's investigation into Iran's use of hitmen on foreign soil, how frequently these operations are thwarted, and what the ultimate objectives of such operations are: revenge, sabotage or something bigger? Mentioned in this week's episode: “Murder for hire: Inside Iran's proxy war with Israel in the West” by Renee Maltezou, Cassell Bryan-Low, Yannis Souliotis and Phil Stewart. Hello and welcome to episode 55. This time, we look at a story that was for a long time not included in the works of Conan Doyle - 1884's ‘The Blood-Stone Tragedy: A Druidical Story.' Read the story here: https://www.arthur-conan-doyle.com/index.php/The_Blood-Stone_Tragedy:_A_Druidical_Story The episode will be uploaded to our YouTube channel soon, where you can listen with closed captions. In the meantime, you can subscribe to our YouTube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/@doingsofdoyle Synopsis Whilst travelling in the English Midlands, the narrator hears a strange tale from a fellow traveller whose wife, in their pre-marital days, underwent a terrifying experience during a family holiday in North Wales. Frustrated by the domestic restrictions imposed upon her while the men of the party enjoy climbing expeditions, the intrepid Miss Madison decides to indulge in some local exploration on her own. She eventually becomes lost amongst the mountains and the valleys and is close to despair when she discovers a primitive hut and its odd inhabitant, a wild and bearded figure dressed in a white robe. But her relief at finding a potential guide soon turns to unease as her new acquaintance begins to talk of strange gods and human sacrifice… Next time ‘John Barrington Cowles' (1884) – published two months after ‘The Blood-Stone Tragedy' in Cassell's and far better! – is our story next month. Hello and welcome to Episode 54. This time, we step into the world of international politics and diplomatic secrets in the Sherlock Holmes story ‘The Adventure of the Second Stain' from December 1904. In the meantime, you can subscribe to our YouTube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/@doingsofdoyle Synopsis On an Autumn morning, in an unspecified year, Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson's Baker Street rooms are graced by a visit from the Prime Minister, Lord Bellinger, and the Secretary for European Affairs, the Right Honourable Trelawney Hope. It transpires that a document of great moment – an intemperate letter written by an incautious foreign potentate – has gone missing from Hope's dispatch box. It must be traced and returned if disastrous consequences are to be avoided. Holmes is rapidly on the scent and believes that one of only three conspiratorial agents – Eduardo Lucas, La Rothiere and Hugo Oberstein – could be involved. The investigative waters, however, are very soon muddied by an unexpected intervention from Lady Hilda Trelawney Hope and the brutal murder of Eduardo Lucas at his Westminster home – a case which falls on Inspector Lestrade, who calls Holmes' attention to a curious discrepancy and a misplaced rug… Next time on Doings of Doyle… We look at Conan Doyle's druidical mystery, ‘The Blood-Stone Tragedy', published in Cassell's Saturday Journal in 1884, which was, for a long time, lost to modern readers. This Sunday we continued our series “This Is The Way” and dove head first into John 13. After a long day in the hot middle eastern sun, 12 sweaty men, walking in their sandals down the dusty roads of Jerusalem were greeted by their rabbi for dinner. The teacher proceeded to put on a towel, get on his hands and knees and wash their filthy feet. This rabbi was the King of the universe, God in the flesh and the one who chose to humble himself and wash feet. He then looked at the men with him, as he looks at us through the barrel of antiquity and said, “Do for others as I have done for you.” Take up your towel. But before Jesus took up the towel, he had to take off his outer garments. Before he put on flesh and came to us in the earth, He had to step down from Glory. Before we can serve like Him, we must also like him set aside what hinders us from taking up our towels. Check out this week's message titled, “Take Up Your Towel”!Join us for service online or in person every Sunday at 8am, 9:30am, 11am, & 12:30pm (PST).If you want to share how God is moving in your life through this ministry, please let us know at info@captivatesd.com!Decided To Follow Jesus? Why do bad things happen to good people? Why do bad things happen at all? How do we handle suffering in this world and in our daily lives? In light of all the bad and suffering, does God still work? Do miracles still happen? This Sunday we dove into John chapter 9. Through one man's encounter with Jesus, we see amidst our suffering God can use it and perhaps we are just a miracle waiting to happen. Ron's Amazing Stories is home to a variety of thrilling and thought-provoking tales. In this episode, we have an extended segment of These Are Your Stories, where listeners share their own eerie and unexplained experiences. First up, Belinda takes us on a tour of one of Hollywood's most famous hotels, known for its haunted history and eerie atmosphere. She recounts tales of strange noises, and ghostly encounters that have cemented the hotel's reputation as a paranormal hotspot. Next, an anonymous listener shares her chilling encounter with black eyed kids—mysterious children with large, black eyes that have been reported in various parts of the world. She describes her terrifying experience with these eerie entities, leaving listeners on the edge of their seats. Finally, Jessica takes us on a wild ride with her incredible tale that unfolded during a drama class. Following that segment, we have a classic double feature in store. The first story, A Thing That Glistened, written by Frank R. Stockton in 1891, transports us to the early age of deep sea diving. Despite its age, the story has a timeless quality and remains captivating with its imaginative storytelling. To conclude the show, we end with a humorous and tongue-in-cheek story called Navy Day by Harry Harrison (One of Ron's favorite authors). This lighthearted tale from 1954 offers a satirical take on the future of technology and the military, leaving listeners with a chuckle and a thought-provoking message. Featured Story - A Thing That Glistened Our featured story comes from a book called Eleven Possible Cases published by Cassell and Company in 1891. This is an anthology composed of eleven short stories from eleven different authors. Our story is titled A Thing That Glistened and it was written by Frank R. Stockton. It was suggested to me by Jamar Linkous from New York. He first read this story as a kid and it stuck with him. Jamar decided to track it down and found it on . It is a unique story and one that doesn't really sound like something that was written in 1891. Stories Include - The Machine Factory Murder, Hollywood Roosevelt, BEK & Halloween, Under The Desk, A Thing That Glistened, and Navy Day Ron's Amazing Stories Is Sponsored by: Audible - You can get a free audiobook and a 30 day free trial at . In Matthew 28 Jesus gives us all our marching orders as Christ followers. We call it the “Great Commission.” Week in and week out we get to live out this mission at our Captivate churches as we see lives changed and disciples being made for the glory of God. But what about outside the walls of our campuses? How are we serving people, changing lives and making disciples of “every nation?” This Sunday highlighted and learned about how God is working through our missions ministry outside the walls of Captivate locally, regionally, and globally. We have been a part of some amazing ministry and humanitarian aid work domestically and internationally over this past year and we can't wait to share some of the stories and highlights with you.If you would like to support our Missions efforts financially, you can give to Missions here! - https://pushpay.com/g/captivatesd?fnd=_X8s-yjAimtPEVRQJH1Trg&r=No&lang=en&src=pcglJoin us for service online or in person every Sunday at 8am, 9:30am, 11am, & 12:30pm (PST).If you want to share how God is moving in your life through this ministry, please let us know at info@captivatesd.com!Decided To Follow Jesus? According to data from the U.S. Travel Association, there is a promising forecast for travel in 2023. It is predicted that the number of domestic trips, including both business and leisure, will surpass the levels seen in 2019 for the first time, marking a significant recovery from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Today we're going to talk about the valuable role that destination marketing and building a strong destination to market plays in the overall growth of the business community in a region. To help me discuss this topic, I'd like to welcome Emily Cassell, Director, Arlington Convention and Visitors Service, based in Arlington County, Virginia. Emily has more than 25 years of marketing experience in travel, tourism, economic development and technology. She holds an International MBA from the University of South Carolina and Austria's Vienna University of Economics and Business, as well as a Bachelor of Journalism with Honors from the University of Texas at Austin.
