Todays show is a harrowing story, that shows how through one terrible incident a persons life can spiral out of control, until hitting rock bottom and fighting their way back. When our guest today was just fourteen, she was raped, she lost her virginity and her life changed forever. Unable to make sense of what had happened to her, still a very young girl, she turned to drugs, quit school four times, and became very promiscuous. At age 16, she fell pregnant with a child that she was unable to keep, and feel deeper from the path that could have show itself at anytime. After the abortion, she got involved with prostitution and at the age of 18 gave birth to her son. Now at that time, she made a decision to start fighting back and to make a difference in her and her own sons life. She went back to school, graduated via a program for single moms, received scholarships and awards, until after attending university for 5 years, and became a high school math and English teacher. Where she worked for 3.5 years, teaching in a small town, until and we will discuss this on the show, she made what seems a bizarre decision and quit to move back to her hometown, where she returned to prostitution and drugs because the money was better. Her self-esteem was in tatters. Sucidical thoughts running through her days, and an accident where she nearly lost her right leg. If that sounds to depressing to consider, she was just about to enter into the worst time of her life was during this period. Her son moved out when he turned 19 and didn't speak to her for three years. She ended up smoking crack for ten months during this time and then it happened. She nearly died when her appendix burst, and realized she didn't want to die without saying "good-bye" to her son. As she says "I had already started to turn my life around about two years before this event occurred, and so when I finally re-connected with my son, my life always back on track. Re-uniting with Julian changed my life in a very positive way. I decided to pursue a writing career. I now own a business, Wording Well, and am an author. I live a clean life, and spend a lot of it helping others. My books are in my local library, and my business is thriving. I'm living proof that a person can hit rock bottom and rise to the top despite all odds against them. My son is proud of me again, too. :)" So lets take her on the journey of her life again, as we show everyone of you, that life is a series of choices good and bad, and we can all improve our lives by simply deciding to do so. It's with great delight that I get to bring onto Join Up Dots, the one and only Lorraine Reguly

She quit high school four times, after being raped at the end of her first year. She was a still a virgin and was completely devastated. She used drugs as a coping mechanism and became promiscuous. Lorraine sought counselling, finally telling someone about what had happened to her. She became a certified high school Mathematics and English teacher in 1999. She taught for several years. In 2005, she was in an accident in which she nearly lost her right leg. Throughout her life, Lorraine has had her share of problems. She has done drugs, earned money through prostitution, suffered discrimination due to her half-Spanish son, and had suicidal thoughts for years. She attempted suicide once, and has been the victim of depression, too. A major turning point of her life occurred when Lorraine’s appendix burst and she nearly died. She re-connected with her son, and began blogging a few months later, in January 2013. She began a freelance writing and editing business in 2014, and started to take her writing seriously. Lorraine won the only short story contest she ever entered, and became a contributor to a memoir anthology. She is also a contributing author to a short story anthology. In 2014, Lorraine self-published her first book of short stories, Risky Issues, and has plans for many more books, including an autobiographical memoir series and a collection of letters she wrote to her son. She also plans to write and publish different works of fiction, including a suspense novel and an erotica novella series. Lorraine blogs at Wording Well (which offers writing, freelancing, and blogging tips to others) and Laying It Out There (where she shares personal stories, book reviews, author interviews, and other things – such as information related to self-publishing. Lorraine Reguly deserves all the success that comes her way, because as a fourteen-year-old virgin she was raped, quit school and turned to drugs and prostitution for solace. How do you turn your life around from all that at such a young age? Showing her fortitude she went back to school and with great zeal approached many other positive tasks successfully, which Lorraine describes during her conversation with Host Diana Todd-Banks. But the wrong side of life stepped in again and because the money was better the young woman who changed her life returned to prostitution and drugs. Adopting that approach ruined her self-esteem, which resulted in an accident where she nearly lost her right leg. The resulting scar and deformity to her leg contributed to not only furthering deepening depression along with a continuing feeling to commit suicide, adding to that downward spiral her son moved out not happy with his Mother. It’s often said in this loose phrase, one needs a ‘bigger thump in life’ before taking serious notice of yourself. Turning to crack for help, a nasty different hurdle occurred that produced a massive insight - Lorraine realized she didn't want to die without saying "good-bye" to her son. Re-uniting with her son changed her life in a positive way, she pursued a writing career, is an author and wrote from ‘Nope to Hope’, owns her business, Wording Well and is living proof it’s never to late to change. Lorraine says she lives a clean life and has done so for years spending a lot of time helping others. Her son is proud of her again too. Using Positive Affirmations has helped her immensely. Lorraine Reguly, B.A./B.Ed., is an author and English teacher-turned-freelancer for hire. She offers 4 different services on Wording Well to help you with writing/blogging, and editing. Lorraine has helped many become published authors! In her interview, Lorraine shared her story of how she overcame suicidal thoughts that plagued her for years. "Deciding what to do when you are suicidal is tough. You don’t know what to do. You don’t know who to turn to. YOU JUST WANT YOUR PAIN TO END." Lorraine was raped when she was a 14-year-old virgin and tried killing herself when she was 15 years old. She felt hopeless many times throughout her life. She was a single mom who got involved with prostitution. After going to school and becoming a high school teacher she quit teaching to return to prostitution. Her son ended up disowning her and in her pain, she smoked crack cocaine for 10 months. That was when she hit rock bottom. There was nowhere to go but....up. After she nearly died from a burst appendix, it was a major turning point for her. She realized she did NOT want to die! She wanted to LIVE! She quit all negative things. She reconnected with her son. She then started blogging and opened up her freelancing business a year later. Then she wrote her books. Listen to her amazing story here:
