Arnulfo Reyes heard a child in the next classroom call out for help. "Officer, come in here. We're in here." Then he heard more gunshots. He never heard that voice again. On January 12, 2026, Reyes — the only teacher to survive the massacre inside Robb Elementary's connected classrooms — testified in the trial of former Uvalde school district officer Adrian Gonzales. His account was unflinching. He described the gunman as a "black shadow" holding a weapon, fire coming from the barrel, the bullet that dropped him, and then the sound of his students being executed. The shooter came back to taunt him, smearing Reyes' own blood on his face while the teacher kept his eyes closed, pretending to be dead. It didn't matter. The gunman shot him in the back anyway. Reyes lay wounded on the floor of Room 111 for 77 minutes before Border Patrol agents finally breached. Every child in his class was killed. The prosecution is using this testimony to show what was happening inside while officers, including Gonzales, allegedly waited outside. But the defense struck back hard on cross-examination. Attorney Nico LaHood questioned Reyes about the culture of unlocked doors at Robb Elementary and got him to admit that locking his classroom door was his responsibility. The implication: there's plenty of blame to go around. Texas Rangers also testified about the "fatal funnel" officers faced — a hallway with no cover against rifle fire. This case is unprecedented. Gonzales faces 29 counts of child endangerment for allegedly failing to act. Ecclesiastes is written by a “Preacher.” This Hebrew word, Qoheleth, pictures a speaker standing before an assembly to deliver an important message. The Qoheleth, King Solomon, was no ordinary preacher. He was the wisest man on earth. “And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding beyond measure, and breadth of mind like the sand on the seashore, so that Solomon's wisdom surpassed the wisdom of all the people of the east and all the wisdom of Egypt. For he was wiser than all other men.” After a life of successes and failures, Solomon leaves us the words he most wants us to remember: “The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. Our text today is Judges 16:28-31: "Then Samson called to the Lord and said, 'O Lord God, please remember me and please strengthen me only this once, O God, that I may be avenged on the Philistines for my two eyes.' And Samson grasped the two middle pillars on which the house rested, and he leaned his weight against them, his right hand on the one and his left hand on the other. And Samson said, 'Let me die with the Philistines.' Then he bowed with all his strength, and the house fell upon the lords and upon all the people who were in it. So the dead whom he killed at his death were more than those whom he had killed during his life. Then his brothers and all his family came down and took him and brought him up and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the tomb of Manoah his father. He had judged Israel twenty years." — Judges 16:28-31 Samson's life was a rollercoaster of wasted potential—flashes of power, but riddled with pride, lust, and compromise. He fought enemies, but mostly on his own terms. Until now. In his final moments, blind and humbled, Samson prayed: "O Lord God, please remember me and please strengthen me only this once." Then, the text says, "he bowed with all his strength." That line changes everything. Samson finally used all his strength in God's way. For the first time, his power wasn't about proving himself, chasing pleasure, or showing off. It was about surrender. With his final act, Samson lived out the calling God gave him from the beginning—to deliver Israel from the Philistines. This is what surrender looks like: using all you have, not for yourself, but for God. And ironically, it was in death that Samson accomplished more than in life. His final words and final act remind us that true strength is never self-made—it's God-given, and it's God-directed. Our culture teaches us to spend our strength proving ourselves, building platforms, or chasing tolerance and applause. But in God's economy, your greatest strength shows up when you bow. Your calling is fulfilled when your strength is finally surrendered to His purpose. And Samson's story points us forward to Christ. Jesus, too, stretched out His arms, surrendered His life, and in what looked like defeat, He fulfilled His mission. In surrender came victory—once for all. ASK THIS: Where have you been using your strength for yourself instead of God? How does Samson's final act of surrender redefine what true strength looks like? What would it mean for you to "bow with all your strength" today? How can your surrender fulfill the calling God placed on your life? DO THIS: Pray for the courage to bow low and surrender it to Him. Write down one way you will use your strength for God's purpose this week. PRAY THIS: Lord, may I not waste the strength You've given me. Teach me to bow with all my strength—not for myself, but for You. May my final words and daily actions echo a surrender to Your purpose. Amen. PLAY THIS: "Yet Not I But Through Christ in Me."

Paul, standing at the finish line, looking back at his protégé Timothy, wants to give him—and us—some perspective for our journey. Stay focused. There's no off season. Do what you're called to do. Preach the word of God and offer the gospel of Christ. Correct, rebuke, and encourage people into and with the gospel. Keep a clear mind. Renew your mind by staying focused on the gospel. Don't be afraid. You'll have to suffer in this life, but the suffering will pass, and God will be with you each step of the way. You must keep focused and stay in the fight. The race has an endpoint, and we see Paul at the threshold. He says, "I've run the race. I've finished it. I've won the prize." Brothers and sisters, there is a prize that awaits us—a crown of righteousness: absolute wholeness, healing, and joy. Having finished his race and looking back from that line, Coach Paul has us in the coach's corner and he's calling out to us: courage, wisdom, perspective. Receive it well. Take it to heart. Stay focused and don't be afraid. Keep fighting the fight. Keep your mind clear and run to the end. God is with you and he is good. That is the prayer that I have for my own soul today. It's the prayer that I have for my family, for my wife, my daughters, and my son. And that's the prayer that I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose  through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen.   Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you.
