Upon your walls, O Jerusalem, I have posted sentinels; all day and all night they shall never be silent. You who remind the Lord, take no rest, and give him no rest until he establishes Jerusalem and makes it renowned throughout the earth. The Lord has sworn by his right hand and by his mighty arm: I will not again give your grain to be food for your enemies, and foreigners shall not drink the wine for which you have labored; but those who garner it shall eat it and praise the Lord, and those who gather it shall drink it in my holy courts. Ben Poremba has been shaping the St. Louis food scene for more than a decade. Each of his restaurants tells a story. The tiny details are his favorite part. Arranging the flowers, helping pick out the decors, things some restauranters don't get the chance to do. He opened Olio and Elaia in the Botanical Heights neighborhood 10 years ago. This month he opened Bar Moro, a Spanish concept in Clayton in the former space of Zoe Robinson's Billie Jean. In between, there have been successes, including James Beard nominations, as well as failures. He has likely played a part in some of your favorite food memories, and he continues to dream of new endeavors. We sat down at his new restaurant to talk about food, culture, family and his goal of transporting diners with every bite. Ben's restaurants include Elaia, Olio, Nixta, The Benevolent King and Bar Moro. Visit his neighborhood market AO& Co for “unnecessary essentials.”

At Katie's Pizza and Pasta, family is everything for chef and owner Katie Collier. The restaurant would not have gotten off the ground without the support and push from her husband Ted and the help of generous donations through a Kickstarter campaign. Katie's love of Italian food and cooking is thanks in large part to her mom who moved to Florence for work and Katie followed. The introduction to the restaurant world comes from her aunt, restaurateur Zoe Robinson, who gave Katie her start in the business. And throughout this episode, you can hear how much Katie's dad played a role in shaping her life. He was her best friend, and his influence helps shape her live every day. In this long-requested episode, we sat down at the Rock Hill location of the popular Italian restaurant to talk family, food, failure, and frozen pizza. Katie shares the ups and downs of her career and the big dreams for the future.
Jesse and Michael talk with Zoe Robinson about her work in Geriatric care and education, hospitality at work and at home, trusting God when you aren't sure where He's leading, and the importance and goodness of deep friendship.

Zoe Robinson is a spirited risk taker with the tenacity to see her dreams to fruition. The founder of many beloved restaurants in St. Louis opened her first at age 23—a feat achieved through fulfilling her passion of making beautiful spaces for people to come together and enjoy delicious food. Although this attention to detail ranked her as a James Beard semifinalist she still indulges the humble joy of her waitressing roots by making heartfelt connections with clientele, even on each restaurant’s frequent at-capacity nights—a scene now paused due to COVID-19. Zoe shares with hosts Susan and Todd the trajectory and serendipity of her journey, and on staying nimble and innovative to continue her life’s work in the changed landscape of the restaurant industry.
