This podcast will discuss issues for individuals and churches from a Christian Counseling perspective.
The And The Church Said... podcast is truly a gem in the podcasting world. From the very first episode, I was captivated by the great conversations and immediately felt a sense of relatability with each guest. It is a show that not only entertains but also inspires and provokes thought, making it a must-listen for anyone seeking spiritual growth and guidance.
One of the best aspects of this podcast is the quality of conversations it offers. The host, Dr. Monique Gadson, does an excellent job of selecting guests who bring unique perspectives and insights to various topics related to faith and church life. These guests are not only knowledgeable but also incredibly relatable, making it easy for listeners to connect with their stories and experiences. The discussions are always thought-provoking, covering a wide range of issues that Christians face in today's society.
Furthermore, I appreciate how this podcast shines a light on important issues that tend to be overlooked within the church community. For example, in one powerful episode, it was emphasized that God expects the church to identify and meet not only the needs of its members but also those of the wider community. This message resonated deeply with me as it highlighted the importance of serving others selflessly and reminded listeners about their responsibility as Christians.
However, no podcast is without its flaws, and The And The Church Said... does have some minor drawbacks. Sometimes, there may be episodes where certain topics or guests may not fully resonate with every listener. However, given the nature of the show's diverse range of topics and guests, this can be expected from time to time.
In conclusion, The And The Church Said... is an exceptional podcast that delivers inspiring and thought-provoking content consistently. It tackles important issues relevant to both individuals within the church community and those seeking spiritual guidance from a solid biblical perspective. Driven by relatable guests and engaging conversations, this podcast is a valuable resource for anyone looking to deepen their faith and understanding of God's plan for His people.
In this episode, Dr. Mo continues the series, Resurrection and Relationships. Today's focus is when we find ourselves engaging in the difficult work of reconciliation and there is frustration and grief from the perpetrator. We are discussing and thinking about practical ways to participate in the work of reconciliation. Dr. Mo reads from John 21:15-17 as we focus on this interaction between Jesus and Peter. Ironically, this is the third time that Jesus appears to the disciples following the Resurrection. And here we see Jesus asking Peter three times if Peter really loves Him. Theologians suggest that Jesus asked this question three times as a way to redeem Peter. One time for each of the three denials of Jesus. Tune in to this episode as we think about how Jesus might be inviting perpetrators of betrayal to engage in reconciliation especially when one might be grieved at the duration of the process and the repeated interrogations. In this episode, Dr. Mo continues the series, Resurrection and Relationships. Today's focus is when we find ourselves as the victims of betrayal trauma where reconciliation is a possibility. Today, we think about reconciliation after one has experienced betrayal. Sometimes there is a need and a desire to engage in the difficult work of reconciliation after betrayal. One must juggle many factors, such as the mentality and heart posture of the perpetrator, the voices of others who will say “get over it and move on”, and the real emotions and effects that are a part of the physiological distress. Tune in to this episode as we think about how Jesus might be inviting us to resurrect our relationships toward reconciliation. Dr. Mo reads from John 21:15-17 as we discuss what are normal effects of betrayal. One has to be intentional doing the work of reconciliation while leaning into the relationship with Jesus. He will do His part. Then, He invites and empowers us to do ours. Happy Mother's Day! Grace be unto you for the varied emotions this day evokes. In this episode, Dr. Mo further discusses Jesus and relationships, namely with His mother, Mary. Dr. Mo reads from John 19:25-27 where we see Jesus hanging on the cross and Mary standing there nearby. Moments before Jesus gives up His spirit; He assures His mother's provision. Jesus even in His anguish and trauma, looked at His mother and speaks to her directly. He entrusts the care of His mother to the disciple, John. The word “Behold” in the Greek means to see. It also means to observe carefully. Tune in to this episode as we think about how Jesus might be inviting us to carefully observe our mothers, whether they are still living or have passed from this earthly life. In this episode, Dr. Mo further discusses the relationships between Jesus and His disciples. Dr. Mo reads from Luke 22:54-62 and focuses on Peter and the relationship with himself. In Luke 22:61-62, Peter remembers and realizes as soon as Jesus looks at Him, Jesus' prophecy that Peter would deny him. Peter had to come face to face with himself in that moment. The Scripture says he wept bitterly - which means he wailed loudly and violently. He denied and betrayed His Lord. Betrayal trauma is defined as interpersonal trauma perpetrated by someone close to them. Betrayal trauma causes psychological distress for the victims of such abuse. And Peter enacted betrayal trauma upon the Son of Man, His friend, His Master, His Lord. Tune in to this episode as we think about how we need to have a face to face with Self when we come into an awareness of betraying another, especially someone who is close and dear to us. As we continue to celebrate the Resurrection, may we be careful to pause and ponder what we stand in need of by way of Redemption as we acknowledge and confess our betrayals of others. In this episode, Dr. Mo further discusses the relationship between Jesus and His disciples. On this Resurrection Sunday, Dr. Mo reads select verses from Mark 16 and further discusses the relationship between Jesus and His disciples. After the Resurrection of Jesus, He went to Galilee waiting there for the disciples. Even Peter. Jesus had experienced abandonment, rejection, and betrayal from the disciples. He summoned them to meet with Him even AFTER they abandoned Him. When Jesus appeared where the disciples were, we read that Jesus rebuked them - sharply criticizing them for their unbelief. Then, after He got a few things off of His chest, He commissioned them to go forth and preach the gospel.Tune in to this episode as we think about how during this Resurrection Week we can pray about any relationships, personal or substitutionary, where we are being invited to take a posture of humility and not defensiveness. Perhaps we can resurrect relationships if we choose to listen to another who has been rejected, abandoned, and betrayed. In this episode, Dr. Mo discusses the relationship between Jesus and His disciples. On this Palm Sunday, Dr. Mo reads from Matthew 26:36-46, 56 and discusses this aspect of the relationship between Jesus and His disciples. Jesus invited three of His disciples - Peter, James, and John - into a most intimate and most difficult moment in His earthly life. He invited them into the Garden of Gethsemane to stay with Him as He prayed. Jesus confided to HIs disciples that He was deeply grieved. He prayed to His Heavenly Father while the disciples slept. And previously, all of the disciples insisted they would never leave Jesus. However, when times got tough, the disciples deserted him. Tune in to this episode as we think about how during this Holy Week we can attune to not only our closest relationships but also relating to humankind in general during these chaotic times. Can we come alongside people and assure them we will stay to help them during job losses, loss of benefits, fragmentation of family systems, and so many other fears and anxieties people are experiencing during these times. In this episode, Dr. Mo further explores the discipline of Rest. Dr. Mo continues to discuss Genesis 2:1-3 where we see how God Himself modeled rest for us. Our focus is on Genesis 2:3 where God blesses the Seventh Day and declares it holy. We ponder the culture's watering down that which God has declared holy. If He commands this day to be holy, how do we need to align our lives to fulfill His Word to us? We are challenged to think about what the day offers us - rest and tranquility - as opposed to a legalistic approach of what we cannot do. In this episode, Dr. Mo continues to discuss ways we can start the new year being more organized, productive, or more efficient by considering the discipline of rest. We are studying Genesis 2:1-3 and observing God's model for rest that we can apply to our lives. God completed the work He purposed to do each day. In this episode, Dr. Mo continues to discuss ways we can start the new year being more organized, productive, or more efficient. We are still delving in Genesis 1 for principles that help us frame how to order our days toward productivity. Starting at verse 4 throughout the remainder of the chapter, we see three themes emerging: (1) God was productive and creating every day; (2) He reviewed all of His accomplishments at the end of the day and blessed the day declaring it was good; and (3) when He made humankind He declared that it was VERY good. Tune in to this episode as we imagine how God might be inviting us to plan our tasks and feel a sense of accomplishment at the end of each day. On this episode, Dr. Gadson continues to discuss what does it mean for the church to be a refuge and witness to those who are victims of psychological abuse. Dr. Gadson shares about a conversation among graduate students who wondered what to do when individuals who are victims of abuse are rushed to forgiveness by members of the Church. Sometimes victims receive subtle suggestions (and most times not so subtlety), that forgiveness is the “way” to go. Dr. Gadson reviews the thoughts that inform why we should wait on the Holy Spirit to guide us with wisdom and clarity to be equipped to do the work of the ministry relating to victims of psychological abuse. She then looks to the compassionate strategy of the Good Samaritan to inform how we can “BE” the Kingdom of Heaven at hand and not necessarily “preach” the Kingdom of Heaven. Historian, author, speaker - Dr. Jemar Tisby - joins the podcast today.
