Dr. Dawn Hughes, who's testified as an expert in R. Kelly's sex trafficking trial and the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard defamation proceedings, took the stand on Wednesday to lay out the psychological reasons a victim might stay in an abusive relationship. She was cross-examined by a new addition to the defense team -- this brings Combs's attorney total to nine. NBC News legal analyst Danny Cevallos joins Andrea and Chloe to talk about what the jury might think looking at Combs's very crowded defense table. If you want to read NBC's coverage of the trial, check out our newsletter, “Diddy On Trial”: NBCNews.com/Diddy

Renee Rodriguez helps protective mothers in a custody battle against a narcissistic co-parent to go into family court and get the custody arrangement that's best for their kids. Like Renee, these women have suffered psychological abuse at the hands of their former partners and are working to ensure their children are protected from further cruelty. Her company, Best Foot Forward, is an example of a number of things: changing careers mid-life, pulling herself up after trauma, doing it all as a single mom, and bringing a sense of adventure and a sense of humor to it all…even with a heavy subject in which she immerses herself every day! Renee empowers parents to help themselves and find a shining bright light at the end of a long, dark tunnel. Her turning point was during her custody battle for her son, after leaving a relationship rife with mental abuse. As a daughter of a Puerto Rican father whose family sought a better life on the mainland when he was 12 and a mother who only later pursued her GED, education and hard work was impressed upon her. She was the first in her family to graduate from college, the perfect Catholic student, who ended up having a child with a cruel, covert narcissist (diagnosed). She had been a performance coach for a couple decades, and switched her career to help other women succeed in dealing with their narcissistic nightmares. Now she is focused on creating reverberating change in the new field of “divorce coaching,” as a custody consultant, Violence Against Women (VAW) Advocate, and a certified instructional designer, melding it together to allow abused parents to find self-empowerment again. The Custody Blueprint® (TCB) exists to prepare protective parents for court through Strategy, Mindset and Evidence and using truth and virtue even in the face of lies and manipulation. Renee finds that moms are dependent on their lawyers to save them, and they have no real sense of how best to present their evidence in court. What really sets her blueprint apart is focusing on the mindset of dealing with a high-conflict co-parent--both in a custody battle AND as a mom trying to co-parent with a damaged individual. She addresses the shame, the guilt and the helplessness through her TCB program.Learn more:thecustodyblueprint.comhttps://www.facebook.com/thecustodyblueprinthttps://www.instagram.com/thecustodyblueprint/https://www.youtube.com/@TheCustodyBlueprint

In the remote outback of Victoria in 1993, Ralph Vollmer believed his wife, Joan, was possessed. Ralph enlisted members of his local religious community to perform an exorcism, hoping to rid Joan of the ten demons they believed controlled her. What followed was a horrific four-day ordeal that ended in Joan’s death. Margaret Thanos is the director of Furious Mattress, a play based on Joan Vollmer’s tragic story. It raises the question: what are the ethics of turning a real-life tragedy into entertainment? You can find tickets to see Furious Mattress here. Gaslighting. Gaslighting is a form of psychological abuse that involves manipulating someone into questioning their sanity, memories, or perception of reality. Sounds horrible right? An example of this: a person or institution may say that an activist campaigning for change is irrational or “crazy,” or they may deny biases if someone confronts them about microaggressions. Nobody wants to be gaslit – it makes you feel confused, anxious, and isolated, and we know from research that feeling like that can have a real impact on your mental AND physical health. But here we are, being gaslit by the leaders of our very own United States government. And when we say things like this, I keep coming back to George Orwell's quote from 1984 - or was it 2025? - which says: “The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.” This is exactly what's happening now. So - how do we keep ourselves from being fooled? How do we make sure that our collective mental and physical health as a nation doesn't go down the toilet? We need to gather evidence to counteract the denial, the trivializing, the stereotyping that's happening. So, in this episode, that's what we're going to do. Gather evidence to make sure you have all the info you need to stand up and push back against people who say what's happening is normal. Educate yourselves and then each other because mainstream media is covering the chaos. We (the collective we, I mean) have to cover the truth. To be clear: nothing that's happening now is normal. And we cannot be gaslit into thinking it is. What to listen for: Why the government is not actually bloated, and the mass firings are illegal How tariffs are taxes, which will be increasing prices for YOU at the register - for eggs, houses, appliances, and more Safety and security are at risk - both domestically with air traffic concerns, all the way to the shift in our international world order - and with the reduction in healthcare and schooling, among other things sure to come What you can do, both locally and through calling your representatives. For 20 years, Sheree Spencer subjected her husband to horrific physical, emotional, and financial abuse. Similarly, Jordan Worth controlled, beat, stabbed, starved, and tortured her boyfriend, becoming the first woman in UK history to be convicted of coercive control-related offences. As society grapples with the overwhelming issue of men's violence against women, our understanding of domestic violence is expanding, and we're uncovering the lesser-known reality of female perpetrators and male victims. In this episode, Dr. Jenny Mackay, a forensic psychology lecturer with expertise in women who commit interpersonal violence, reveals the nuanced differences and similarities between male and female perpetrators, and what these insights mean for tackling domestic abuse in all its forms. This devotional explores the challenges individuals face with various forms of abuse, including psychological, emotional, and physical harm. It begins by reflecting on a song by Ron Hamilton, 'Molding a Masterpiece,' to convey the message of finding purpose and beauty during trials. The video then tackles the serious issue of abuse, emphasizing psychological abuse through intimidation and the threat of self-harm or harm to others. In this episode we will talk about abuse language - the language that is designed to weaken the victim and used as a weapon by the abuser to maintain and expand their control over the victim. Abuse language is hard to explain if you don't know the mechanics. We first talk about deniability, then teaching the language, then the slow game and then planting the seeds.Contact: contactme@johannadraconis.com Transcript: https://www.johannadraconis.com/episode175Contact: contactme@johannadraconis.comWebsite: www.johannadraconis.com www.johannadraconis.com/archive-collectionsupport me:https://ko-fi.com/johannadraconishttps://paypal.me/JohannadraconisDiscord/support group: https://discord.io/JohannaDraconishttps://discord.gg/mEAgpqjuhFtwitter: https://twitter.com/JohannaDraconisInstagram:https://www.instagram.com/JohannaDraconis/youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCR_eyifiglAs0knS4huMwoQhttps://www.youtube.com/@johannadraconis reddit archive: https://www.reddit.com/r/DraconisCPTSDarchive/reddit convo: https://www.reddit.com/r/DraconisCPTSDtalk/rss feed: https://feeds.buzzsprout.com/371360.rss

Unlike physical abuse, being emotionally abused doesn't leave you with visible scars or bruises that can be easy to detect. In the U.S., every ten seconds, a report of child abuse is made. That means on a yearly basis, this involves more than 6.6 million children who are affected. Emotional abuse weakens the individual's emotional development and sense of self-worth that can have lifelong damaging effects. This week, host Dr. I. David Daniels will speak to Torin Monet, a management consultant who has studied the data associated with psychologically unhealthy workplaces and made a profound business case for psychological health and safety. There is a significant amount of data to suggest the United States is destroying innovation, productivity, and productivity through emotional and psychological abuse in the workplace. - The US is #1 among developed nations for workplace stress, anxiety disorders, psychopathy, antisocial personality disorder, homicide, and suicide - 70% of US adults, approximately 223.5 million people, have experienced psychological trauma, increasing their sensitivity to workplace abuse and subsequent mental health disorders - 30% of American workers (46.8 million people) are victims of psychological abuse, leading to anxiety, depression, PTSD, and the spread of sociopathy - Year-on-year increase in workplace toxicity and harassment is evident, with 22% of workers saying they were subject to workplace psychological abuse in the last 12 months compared to 14% in 2022 Torin argues that a clear set of business data points supports the value of a psychologically safe and healthy workplace as a business imperative.

Slam the Gavel welcomes back Joan Kloth- Zanard to the podcast. Joan was last on Season 4; Episodes 6, 52 and 72. Presently, Joan runs and manages a non-profit with over 50 chapters around the world. This 501 (c) (3) is an international non-profit organization for the Prevention, Intervention and Support of Survivors of abuse (www.pasintervention.com). Part of this work includes running online support groups for these SURVIVORS of ABUSE and in particular Psychological Abuse since 1998. Joan has reached out to the ADA organizations nationally and their words to Joan was that it was an "EPIDEMIC." If you are disabled, THEY DON'T CARE. In cases where the person has ADA accommodations, the judge can/will decide they are incompetent and without an evidentiary hearing and violate the person's rights. They can be allowed to either fire their attorney and self represent, or put on to assist their attorney. This is a FIRST AMENDMENT CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT VIOLATION. Joan has seen parents so traumatized and their PTSD, stress and anxiety being off the charts because it's their case and being treated horribly in the courts, being attacked from every direction and being yelled at. Most of these cases do not belong in a courtroom. There should be a mediation process. The courts make an ADA Advocate register who they are in support of that individual. This is a private thing. ADA records are supposed to be sealed with the courts as well as the ADVOCATE. If there is a physical or mental health issue going on and they should be in therapy for all of this so we can have empathy for each other. We need to learn differently. Show the kids by example so they can learn what empathy is.To Reach Joan Kloth-Zanard: info@advocate4fam.com info@pas-intervention.orgThis episode of Slam the Gavel is sponsored by CPSprotect Consulting Services. Narcissism Series installment: Join ORRA The Informationalist as he delves into how narcissistic people are known for their manipulative and deceptive behaviors. They will often lie and deceive those in their personal circle of friends to turn their back on the people they don't like or don't agree with their behavior or beliefs. This is done in order to make themselves look better and to gain control over the situation. They may spread false rumors about the person they want to discredit, or they may try to convince their friends to believe their version of the story. This is done in order to gain power and control over the situation and to make themselves look better in the eyes of their friends. In addition, narcissistic people may also enlist the help of their friends to become their flying monkeys. These are people who are willing to spread the lies and rumors that the narcissist has created about the person they want to discredit. They may also assist in building a false narrative about the person that the narcissist has created. This false narrative can be used to further discredit the person and gain more control over the situation. By using their friends as flying monkeys, the narcissist is able to gain more power and control over the situation and make themselves look better in the eyes of their friends. On this episode, Dr. Gadson further discusses what does it mean for the church to be a refuge and how it applies to disciple perpetrators of abuse. Dr. Gadson shares her insights and thoughts from years of working in and with churches to consider how to navigate the very delicate task of discipling those who have inflicted psychological abuse on others. She admonishes the church to equip members for this specific task and to understand when to refer to a professional licensed clinician. On this episode, Dr. Gadson continues to discuss what does it mean for the church to be a refuge and witness to those who are victims of psychological abuse. Dr. Gadson shares about a conversation among graduate students who wondered what to do when individuals who are victims of abuse are rushed to forgiveness by members of the Church. Sometimes victims receive subtle suggestions (and most times not so subtlety), that forgiveness is the “way” to go. Dr. Gadson reviews the thoughts that inform why we should wait on the Holy Spirit to guide us with wisdom and clarity to be equipped to do the work of the ministry relating to victims of psychological abuse. She then looks to the compassionate strategy of the Good Samaritan to inform how we can “BE” the Kingdom of Heaven at hand and not necessarily “preach” the Kingdom of Heaven. Tune in to this episode to discover why a theological statement of forgiveness is not the first order of business among those who are severely suffering and mentally tormented due to psychological abuse. Do you know what the word of the year for 2022 was? According to Merriam Webster? Guess? Right now, what do you think that word was? I would have guessed narcissism or narcissist. Those two words are flying around everyone right now. Nope! Not those words, but yet still a word that we all know all too well. The word of the year was gaslighting! I wasn't surprised when I read this. All of these words are getting thrown around an awful lot. Gaslighting is certainly one of those words. As popular as the word narcissist itself. So what really is gaslighting? Gaslighting is an attempt to destabilize someone and their sense of reality. It is a form of psychological abuse that causes you, the victim, to question your perception of reality. It is psychologically manipulating someone into questioning their own sanity, according to Oxford Dictionary. It is those crazy-making words, "That never happened," among many other phrases.
