Judges chapters 4–5 recount Israel's deliverance from twenty years of oppression under Jabin, king of Canaan, and his powerful army. As Deborah and Barak lead Israel into battle, the Lord makes clear that the victory belongs to Him: He draws the enemy into the place of battle, goes before His people, and delivers them from an army of 900 iron chariots. In this verse-by-verse study, we follow the events of the battle and the victory song of Deborah and Barak, considering both the willingness of some in Israel to hazard their lives and the unwillingness of others to come to their aid. Above all, these chapters point us to the Lord as the One who fights for His people and gives them deliverance.

Lieutenant Colonel Phill Cochran spent more than two decades flying the F-16 Fighting Falcon. He flew operational missions from Misawa Air Base, Japan in the Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses. Later he trained the next generation of fighter pilots between 1990 and 2013 at Luke Air Force Base, Arizona and Vance Air Force Base, Oklahoma. His career took him around the world, including Singapore, Africa, Germany, and Korea. Lt. Col. Cochran is the father of seven, and is also a grandfather. He spent 23 years as a pastor. Now retired from military service, he has authored the book, Lessons Learned at the Speed of Sound: A Fighter Pilot's Lessons on Faith, Discipline and Trust. As we read through the Scriptures, we see the Lord Jesus using many illustrations as He taught. He used agriculture by taking examples from a mustard seed, an olive tree, different types of soil and fields that were white unto harvest. He also used illustrations of shepherding, fishing and everyday life - things with which people were familiar. In similar fashion, the apostle Paul used various vocations to drive home spiritual truth in his letters. He compared a minister of the Word to a teacher who passes on Biblical truth to others, a farmer that labors and partakes in the first of his fruits, an athlete that runs the race faithfully and finishes his course with joy and a good soldier that endures hardness. Indeed, we relate to illustrations such as these. Our guest today has written from a vantage point that is unique to him. He was a fighter pilot and has written a devotional book that draws from his everyday experiences with application that presents Biblical truth.

How can Christians recognize sexual temptation before it becomes destructive? Proverbs 7 exposes the tactics of a predatory seducer and shows why biblical wisdom, intentional discipleship, and covenant faithfulness are essential protections against sexual sin. In The Strange Woman: Recognizing the Predator, Solomon warns his son through the tragic picture of an inexperienced young man walking confidently into temptation. The message identifies warning signs such as forwardness, immodesty, manipulation, discontentment, flattery, false spirituality, and provocative speech, while emphasizing that these dangers can apply to both men and women. Parents and spiritual leaders are challenged to disciple young people biblically about sexuality rather than leaving the world to shape their understanding, pointing them instead toward purity, wisdom, and covenant love.
This sermon examines the character of Jonah in the first chapter of his book, highlighting the tension between his divine commission and his subsequent flight to Tarshish. Sin may be hidden from family, friends, the church, and the preacher, but it can never be hidden from God. Through David's concealed adultery, Achan's buried treasure, Peter's denial, and the Bible's law of sowing and reaping, this message examines the reality, secrecy, certainty, and discovery of sin. Yet the message ends with hope: we do not have to wait for hidden sin to destroy us. "Whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy." The answer is not to hide better, but to come into the light, confess our sin, and experience the cleansing available through the blood of Jesus Christ.Don't cover it—confess it. Don't hide it—forsake it. Don't run from God—run to Christ.

When God looked upon the earth and saw that "all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth" (Genesis 6:12), how did one man find grace in His eyes? Read verse 9 and ask what the words on either side of "perfect in his generations" (Genesis 6:9) tell a reader that phrase means. Then ask whether Noah walked with God because he knew a flood was coming, or whether he had no idea at all. "But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD." (Genesis 6:8)
