Persevering in Tough Times; A Vibrant Living Faith Part 1 (Studies in James)

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 2, 2026 34:15

This sermon initiates a series on the Book of James, focusing on the theme of maintaining a living and vibrant faith amidst life's difficulties. The preacher emphasizes that believers should count it all joy when facing diverse temptations, as these trials test and refine their faith to produce spiritual maturity and patience. Key theological points include the sovereignty of God in orchestrating suffering for good purposes and the necessity of enduring hardship with steadfast trust in Christ. Through illustrations from Joseph, Job, and personal missionary accounts, the message encourages believers to view trials as a spiritual gymnasium that prepares them for God's work. The ultimate goal is to become perfect and entire in character, lacking nothing spiritually, while pointing non-believers to the necessity of saving faith in Jesus Christ.

By the time we get to this passage of scripture in the book of Habakkuk, we see a different prophet. He has been changed by his conversion with God. He is ready to submit his will to the will of God and is , in fact, able to praise God even though he realizes that he will suffer a tremendous amount when God's judgment actually arrives in his country. His prayer did not change God's decision, however, he was changed by his own prayer.

Praying as Individuals and Families

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 31, 2026 51:18

The sermon provides practical methods for deepening one's prayer life by utilizing the Book of Psalms as a guide. It distinguishes between praying like the Psalms, which involves adopting specific types such as praise, lament, and thanksgiving, and praying through the Psalms, a structured approach to personalizing individual psalm verses. Emphasizing meditation on Scripture and honest communion with God, the message encourages believers to move beyond repetitive or spontaneous prayer alone toward intentional, strategic disciplines. The speaker demonstrates these techniques using Psalm 23 to show how readers can organize, personalize, and pray through biblical text effectively. Ultimately, the goal is to equip individuals and families with tangible tools to grow in their daily walk with God.

This Bible study explores the boldness of Peter and John as they stand before the Sanhedrin, asserting that salvation is found exclusively in the name of Jesus Christ. Drawing from Acts chapter 4, the message highlights how the apostles, though uneducated, demonstrated divine authority through a healed man and scriptural fulfillment. The religious leaders are shown to be silenced by the undeniable miracle and unable to deny the truth of the resurrection. Despite threats and commands to remain silent, the apostles refuse to obey human authority over God, emphasizing their role as eyewitnesses to Christ's power. The central call is for believers to exhibit similar confidence in their testimony, recognizing that they cannot stop speaking of what they have seen and heard.

Education for Life Approved unto God

Back to School, Back to the Book: Learning and Instruction for Life and Godliness August has a rhythm to it. Backpacks are dusted off, school supply lists get pulled from the fridge, and classrooms across the country fill again with students ready — or not so ready — to learn. It's a season that turns our minds naturally toward education, instruction, and the shaping of young minds. But long before the first school bell of the year rings, the wisest man who ever lived was already wrestling with the pursuit of knowledge. In Ecclesiastes, Solomon reflects that "of making many books there is no end, and much study is a weariness of the flesh" (Ecclesiastes 12:12). Solomon had access to the finest wisdom, wealth, and learning of his day — and still found that human knowledge alone, apart from God, leaves the soul unsatisfied. There is one education, however, that never wearies the soul because it leads to life. Paul charges young Timothy: "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth" (2 Timothy 2:15). This is the curriculum that matters most — not merely gathering information, but rightly handling God's Word so that our lives are shaped by it. This kind of learning doesn't begin in a classroom; it begins in the home. Proverbs 22:6 reminds us, "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Parents are a child's first teachers — the first voice shaping what is right and wrong, true and false. We see this modeled perfectly in the life of Christ Himself, who "increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man" (Luke 2:52) — growing under instruction,

Some Bishops went to Pope John 23rd and obtained a bull by which he commanded clearly that both the bad and the good books of Master John Wyclif must be burned. They are greatly angered that those books speak about their bribery, pride, fornication, and greed. Most of all, they rage because he calls them receivers of alms and says they should not rule like secular lords. And also because he writes that when priests live wickedly and will not give up their evil, secular lords, by lawful order and good intention, so that the priests have nothing to sin with, may take away their property and also withhold tithes from them.

Psalm 6: The Lord's Discipline and Love

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 30, 2026 59:30

This sermon explores Psalm 6 to illustrate the theological concept of divine discipline as a necessary expression of God's covenant love for His children. The speaker contrasts modern cultural aversion to correction with the biblical mandate that believers should expect and endure the Lord's corrective hand when they sin. By analyzing David's plea, the text highlights that true repentance involves recognizing one's status as a legitimate child of God who deserves correction but seeks deliverance rather than judgment. The central message emphasizes that the ultimate purpose of enduring such spiritual trials is to restore right relationship with God, thereby enabling the believer to glorify Him and enjoy His presence forever.

Israel's National Constitution

The sermon interprets the Book of Deuteronomy as a foundational constitution for Israel, designed to prepare the second generation to embrace Yahweh as their covenant God. It contrasts the narrative style of Exodus with the persuasive, action-oriented nature of Moses' sermons, which aim to induce obedience rather than merely record history. The speaker highlights the critical warning against idolatry, arguing that no physical representation can adequately capture God's infinite nature, and emphasizes the theological truth of biblical monotheism. Additionally, the discussion explores the provision of cities of refuge as a foreshadowing of Christ, illustrating God's mercy alongside His justice. Ultimately, the central message urges believers to seek communion with God above all else, learning from past failures while trusting in His faithfulness for future obedience.

By studying the Psalms, particularly Psalm 8, the speaker found accessible language for praising God despite struggles with dyslexia and visualization. The message encourages believers who find worship difficult to use the Psalms as a guide, noting that they serve as the Bible's prayer book. This approach allows individuals to express their hearts through established biblical phrases rather than relying on personal eloquence. Ultimately, the devotional invites listeners to incorporate the Psalms into their daily prayers to deepen their relationship with God.
