A few bearded middle-aged hockey fans talking about hockey in the beautiful Pacific Northwest and beyond.
Summer is here...so we're dipping out for a bit. We bring an eventful season 2 of Cascadia Hockey to a close in the latest episode. Hopefully when we return, so will have hockey. Ferda!
It's not the heat, it's the humidity. NHL teams started hitting the ice this week for limited activity. Everett Silvertips netminder Dustin Wolf wins yet another award. Some players have decided they've had enough of the culture and have decided to do something about it. All of this on this week's episode. Ferda!
After a few weeks off, we're back with a little bit of a deeper episode of West Side Story. We welcome a special guest, author Angie Abdou, whose book "Home Ice: Reflections of a Reluctant Hockey Mom" dives into the story of the culture of hockey families raising young athletes. The conversation took some different routes, but all seemed to lead to some meaningful conversations. Give it a listen!
We are tired...so tired. Not really, just being dramatic. But as this all drags on, so do we! The National League issued a statement about relaunch plans. Did Seattle miss its opportunity to make a big deal about their branding reveal? Who knows? Join us. Reach out to us! hello@buriedpuckthreads.com Ferda! Music Courtesy of Strange Famous Records
Some sports are beginning to show signs of life, while others are back at it. Where does hockey fall in that spectrum? We have no clue, but on this week's podcast episode, we do our best to make you think we do. It's entertaining at the very least. Ferda! Please like and share with your friends and enemies! Music Courtesy of Strange Famous Records
Lot's of give and take on this special episode of Cascadia Hockey. Don't let your mind wander to the gutter though, there is some real stimulating conversation to be had. Ferda! Music courtesy of Strange Famous Records
We've got lot's of women's hockey to discuss on the latest West Side Story Installment. New teams, new players, new problems? We tackle all of that and also, where was Everett at this year's Western Hockey League Bantam draft? Anya, Dan, and Aaron have it covered. Music courtesy of Michael Pellegrini
It was a hard one this week..that's what she said. There was actually a lot of excitement with the WHL bantam draft concluding, and an excitement in the air for the future. But right now has us bummed out. Want to come join in this week's loathing? Sure you do. Grab an Irish Whiskey and let's settle in for this week's episode of Cascadia Hockey Podcast. Ferda! Music Courtesy of Strange Famous Records Like, comment, share!
Don't let the title fool you...wait. NO! It's true...we're not. On this week's episode of Cascadia Hockey, we discuss the upcoming WHL draft, how to keep from getting an "infection" during quarantine, and a possible light at the end of this long tunnel we have been in. Ferda! Music courtesy of Strange Famous Records So we are still pretty new on iTunes, I know, you do 50+ eppys and we’re considered a baby. Who knew (Well, I guess baby Yoda knew). Ok, so we may not be, but we discuss the question (hint: Ilya Bryzgalov does get mentioned). We question how many "tribute" awards should be created, and also the music choices of today's youth hockey players. Ferda! We're only like a week late, but hey, we're here. Anya, Dan, and Aaron are working hard for you. While the world is shut down, there is still much to discuss. Big news for women in hockey! Huge! Also, is Everett gangsta? Some say it is so. Check it out. Music Courtesy of Michael Pelligrini So we are still pretty new on iTunes, I know, you do 50+ eppys and we’re considered a baby. The "Regular Guy" was struggling this week...with his allergies. Scouts honor. Week 3...or 4...whatever the hell it is now in quarantine has brought about the usual shenanigans. Banter topics include, how the NHL should resume, how California loves street hockey and ultimate frisbee, and we take listener questions live thanks to Houtzenstein and his Twitch expertise. Really, we just miss hockey and talking about it is our therapy...along with Jameson. Whiskey is your friend. Join us in the insanity. Ferda! Music courtesy of Strange Famous Records
We go a little long this week...that's what she said. The Cascadia Hockey crew talks about too many sponsor logos in hockey arenas and on jerseys. Gritty wins best mascot. No surprise here. Bubble hockey tables can be purchased with your stimulus check. Just saying. Ferda! On this week's Cascadia Hockey Podcast, we do things remotely because we're responsible adults. Or something like that. This week, we ponder the emotions of those going through abrupt season endings. If an NHL team releases its name to a quarantined world, will anyone hear it? Carter Hart talk sneaks in as well from someone who has scored a few on him in the past. Ferda!
On this episode of West Side Story Podcast, Anya, Aaron, and Dan discuss Rose City Hockey Club versus the Portland Winterhawks. Could the Isobel Cup be the first major hockey event to take place once the world moves on? We think that would be wonderful! The world definitely feels off right now, but we're here to help keep some sense of normalcy...at least for the 7 people that listen to us! On this week's episode of Cascadia Hockey Podcast, we discuss the new landscape a bit, but really dive into what we are doing and will be doing during this unprecedented time. Ferda! So many things wrong with how us North Americans celebrate St. Patrick's Day! How do we know? Because we asked our favorite bearded Irishman who called in straight from Dublin! Griff from "All Beard No Teeth" joins us this week along with ALL of the rest of the Cascadia Hockey Podcast crew...even Kyle. Along with the typical hockey talk, we also spend a fair amount of time making our bearded Irish friend cringe. Ferda! Do not call it ball hockey! Seriously! Floorball is similar, but it is definitely it's own thing. The Floorball Guru, David Crawford, joins Anya, Aaron, and Dan to discuss this budding sport and his efforts to grow the game all over the world. Also, the Isobel Cup playoffs start right now! Lot's of Chicken Little shenanigans dropping this week as the world believes everything it's being told. We just want to talk about hockey. Our emcee moves up his own ranks, Anya let's us know what she doesn't want to be, and Aaron reveals a childhood nickname. And of course, we talk Pacific Northwest hockey...which features a new top dog this week in the western league. Ferda! A different lineup this week brings what Anya calls a "boring" episode of Cascadia Hockey Podcast. 2/3 of us disagree, but you be the judge. Our buddy Houtzenstein joins us to discuss the National League trade deadline, public transit in Seattle, and of course...traffic in Las Vegas...as reported by Marc-Andre Fleury. Ferda! This week we talk with Kevin Palmer of Little Cutie's Hockey Club fame about a pretty big endeavor him and his crew are putting on in Portland. They are looking to grow the game of hockey. On this week’s episode of Cascadia Hockey, a familiar voice joins the crew for a reunion. In the Western League, there are 3 players expected to apply for exceptional status at this year’s Batam draft. Is that good? And, Brandon Manning faced the music after his suspension ended. Warranted? Carter Hart is a great goalie, and may be an even better Flyer. Ferda! Inevitably...speculation about the 32nd NHL franchises' name and branding are going to be hot topics until they go public. We bit hard this week...again...on that very topic. The crew unites Cascadia once again with the latest and greatest Women's Hockey news, West Side U.S. Division of the WHL, and a general potpourri of PNW hockey tidbits.
After snowpocalypse 2020, only 75% of the crew was able to make it out to the studio for this week's episode. A short bench does not equal short effort though. We're action packed this week. Ferda! Mission "Holidays 2019" is complete. We're back this week to vent. Have you ever been the fan of a team in a true rebuild? It's weird. It's exciting. It brings out the worst in some people. Our bi-weekly installment of women's hockey and the west side of Cascadia brings with it a lot of talk about...books? NERD ALERT! In all honesty, we all like to read so we figured we'd share some of our favorites in case you need a close to last minute gift for that hockey fan in your life.
It's the express version this week of Cascadia Hockey Podcast. Less hosts, less content, more time to buy stuff. Lots of talk of teddy bears. Ferda!
The game continues to stand at a crossroad. Allegations. Resignations. Investigations. It's been a doozy lately. Anya and the boys give their take. What do you think? Ferda! Music courtesy of Strange Famous Records
Anya, Aaron, and Dan are back for our bi-weekly installment of happenings from the Women's Hockey world and the west side of Cascadia. "Glorified Beer Leagues" "Investments Into Said League," and the U.S. Division of the WHL are discussed.
In case you missed it, there was big happenings last week in the hockey world. Some are calling it the "end of an era." This week we welcome our good friend and "Soul On Ice" creator, Kwame Mason, to the show to share his thoughts and insights. It's a little heavier than usual, but a great listen nonetheless. Open and closing music courtesy of Strange Famous Records
We've launched something new. West Side Story focuses our attention to women's hockey and the west side of Cascadia. Check out the first episode and let us know what you think.
We didn't think it was going to go this direction this week...but it did. Somehow we ended up on the topic of cheesesteak hoagies. Check it out and weigh in on the debate. Subscribe and share! Music courtesy of Strange Famous Records
We welcome back our favorite son of St. Albert, AB. on this week's episode. Parker AuCoin fills us in on his new chapter in the Canadian capital. The Carleton University Men's Hockey team is ranked #3 in Canada...and attribute that all to AuCoin. We may be biased. Listen in to find out. Ferda! Music courtesy of Strange Famous Records
The Black Plague STRIKES AGAIN!!! Not really, but this week's episode is a little different. Find out why and what's to come...including a new baby podcast being born from our adolescent project. Ferda! Music Courtesy of Strange Famous Records
We wanted to talk Letterkenny season 7 this week...but one of us didn't keep up. So instead, Seattle decided to lock away some names for the new team until 2062. WTF? Anyway, it makes for good civil discourse in this week's episode. Ferda! Music courtesy of Strange Famous Records
We delve into quite a bit this week. The ugly side of humanity that rears its head from time-to-time, a weekend winning streak, NHL winners and losers so far, and of course...season 7 of Letterkenny is now live in the States. Ferda! Opening and Closing music courtesy of Strange Famous Records
A couple week hiatus during one of the busiest times of the year...who does that? We're back this week hitting harder than ever with only the second appearance of the lovely and talented "Not Your Average (Casual, Normal) Fan" aka "Anya", aka "the owners wife" (SO BACK OFF!!!) Talking hockey, fandom, and loving the greatest time of the year. Ferda! Opening and closing music provided courtesy of Strange Famous Records strangefamousrecords.com
Hockey is in full swing...sort of...preseason anyway! Our former co-host and Vegas Golden Knights ice crew member, Kyle Houtz, returns for a look at his new life. We somehow end up back on the topic of what the future Seattle NHL team will be named. It just shows how important it is for them to get it right...we believe they will. Also check out some preseason WHL reviews. Everything is about to pop as we head into the most wonderful time of the year. Ferda!
Join us as we welcome our newest member, Derek, to the Cascadia Hockey crew. It's an exciting time on the show and on the ice in a lot of locations. We talk about it all. And by the way, Kyle made it to Vegas safely...you all can breathe now.
We kick off season 2 with the whole crew together for one last time. Kyle is headed to Vegas, but we're so excited the new hockey year is dawning that we may have wet ourselves. Ferda!
Change is in the air with Cascadia Hockey Podcast. Take a listen to what those changes entail as we head full steam into season 2.
Sorry...we missed talking hockey too much. So we took a break from the season break. Former Tri-City Americans captain, Beau McCue, joins us to talk what he's been up to, what he is getting ready for, and the craziness that was NHL free agency. Ferda! Like what you hear? Subscribe, review, and share away friends!

Another soapbox this week...go figure! The angry bearded hockey fans from the upper left corner share their insights on a subject that really gets them fired up...bad fans. There is fun in the great rivalries, not in the hatred of individuals. Hear our take and share yours with us. Ferda!
Not a lot of ear-popping headlines this week, but things to talk bout nonetheless. The CHL playoffs have wrapped and teams are now on to the Memorial Cup. NHL Conference Championships are in full swing. And, oh yeah, the "circle game" is now a white supremacist thing? WTF? We rant about that and other worldly atrocities. Ferda!
