How much of your life is disappearing into a screen? In this episode of Mirror Talk: Soulful Conversations, Tobi sits down with Mary Catherine Liscinski, Licensed Professional Counsellor, Certified Life Coach, and a specialist certified to treat Digital Addiction involving smartphones, social media, and video games. With more than 13 years of counselling experience, Mary works with teenagers, adults, and families to help them develop healthier relationships with technology and with one another.Together, we explore why screens can be so difficult to put down, how excessive screen time can affect our mental health, communication, relationships, and everyday presence, and what we can actually do to regain control.Mary shares practical ways to create healthier digital boundaries, including spending more time in nature, prioritising face-to-face connection, practising mindfulness, using timers, and becoming more intentional about when and why we reach for our devices. We also discuss parenting in the digital age, her grandmother's wisdom about slowing down and making life about people rather than things, and how Mary's Christian faith influences her approach to healing, connection, and intentional living. This is not a conversation about rejecting technology. It is an invitation to ask whether technology is serving the life you want to live.In This Episode, We Explore:Mary's journey into counselling and life coachingWhat led her to specialise in Digital AddictionWhy smartphones, social media, and video games can be so difficult to disengage fromWarning signs that screen use may be becoming unhealthyHow excessive screen time can affect mental health and relationshipsThe impact of technology on teenagers and familiesRebuilding face-to-face communicationPractical ways to reduce screen timeCreating healthier technology boundaries at homeWhy nature and mindfulness can help us reconnect with ourselvesLiving intentionally in an increasingly digital worldThe role of Christian faith in Mary's workWhy recovery from unhealthy digital habits is possibleChapters00:00 Introduction to Digital Addiction and Counselling05:26 Mary's Journey into Counselling and Coaching08:55 Understanding Digital Addiction11:16 The Addictive Nature of Screens15:27 Reversing the Damage of Digital Addiction21:09 The Role of a Coach in Reducing Screen Time26:17 Finding Balance in a Screen-Dominated World29:03 Living Intentionally in a Digital Age34:21 Integrating Faith into Digital Wellness39:21 Hope and Encouragement for FamiliesWatch on YouTube: https://youtu.be/IPz5gpQTsdk Connect with Mary Catherine LiscinskiLearn more about Mary's work and her upcoming book on Digital Addiction: https://lifewalkcoaching.com/screen-addiction-book/ If this conversation speaks to you, share it with someone who may need it.Subscribe to Mirror Talk: Soulful Conversations for more honest conversations about personal growth, purpose, relationships, healing, spirituality, and becoming more fully who we are meant to be.Continue Your JourneyRead CONFESSIONS: A personal invitation to reflection, healing and honest self-discovery: https://mirrortalkpodcast.com/confessions-book/Try Aletheia: Receive calm, personalised biblical wisdom for the questions and decisions shaping your life: https://aletheia.mirrortalkpodcast.comAsk Mirror Talk: Share what is on your heart and receive a thoughtful reflection that may help you see your situation more clearly: https://mirrortalkpodcast.com/ask-mirror-talk/Support Mirror TalkThank you for being part of the Mirror Talk: Soulful Conversations community.Your rating, review and shared recommendation help more people discover the podcast. You can also support our work and outreach by becoming a Mirror Talk Patreon member: http://patreon.com/MirrorTalk
Preet Majithia takes over the CITIUS MAG Podcast in today's episode to sit down with Laurent Meuwly, the head coach for sprints, hurdles, and relays at the Dutch Olympic Training Centre in Papendal. He's been with the Dutch program since 2019, and the group he has built includes Femke Broeders-Bol, Lieke Klaver, and Nadine Visser, along with a rotating cast of international athletes, including world indoor 400m champion Lurdes Gloria Manuel and Australian sprint star Torrie Lewis.Under his guidance, Dutch relay teams have become a dominant force on the world stage, and his athletes have collected world titles, Olympic medals, and European and national records across the flat 400, the 400 hurdles, and now, in Femke's first season of competition at the distance, the 800m.When Femke Broeders-Bol made the decision to move up to the 800 this season, it was Laurent who had already been thinking about this moment since he first started working with her. He actually talked her out of making the switch a year earlier. She wanted to go right after the Paris Olympics. He convinced her to stay in the 400 hurdles for one more season, win a second world title, and leave that chapter on a high note. Then came the transition. This interview was done one day after Femke ran 1:54.71, putting her within the top 10 on the all-time 800m list.Laurent is candid about everything: what he kept from Femke's 400m hurdles training and what he changed, why her mileage stays around 60 kilometers a week, the mental adjustment of still being only halfway through the race after one full lap, and why the world record conversation will eventually shift from who breaks it to conversations about 1:52.Everyone's been interested in the Femke 800m transition, and we've got the inside scoop here.____________SUPPORT OUR SPONSORSOLIPOP: OLIPOP's Citrus Rush packs apple, lemon, lime, and orange juices with 60mg of green tea caffeine for a bold, refreshing blast of flavor ready to fuel your next adventure. Most coaches fail their athletes long before an injury ever occurs because they train muscles for show while completely neglecting the structural integrity of the joints. Mark Uptegraff II had his Division I playing career ended in an instant by an L4–S1 laminectomy, a devastating setback that forced him to stop chasing personal weight room numbers and start studying how to keep human bodies from breaking. Through nearly a decade running strength programs across the collegiate landscape, he developed a systematic approach to joint capacity, relative strength baselines, and individualized "bucketing" that reliably produces bulletproof, high-velocity athletes. INSIDE THIS CONVERSATION The Joint Integrity Gap: Why standard weight room programming exposes athletes to catastrophic soft-tissue tears and how iso-ramping builds load-bearing capacity. The 20 MPH Threshold: How Fordham Football expanded its high-velocity roster from 9 to 46 athletes without burning out their nervous systems. Relative Strength Thresholds: The exact squat and press ratios an athlete must hit before transitioning into advanced power development. Proactive Return-to-Play: The specific warm-up framework that cut a grade-two MCL rehab timeline from six weeks to just eleven days. The Coach's Reality Check: How an unexpected career-ending spine surgery transformed a former walk-on into an elite system-builder. MEET THE GUEST Mark Uptegraff II is the Director of Football Strength & Conditioning at Fordham University. A former UNC offensive lineman whose playing career was halted by major spine surgery, Uptegraff turned personal physical adversity into a relentless pursuit of human performance. Having refined his methods through the ranks at Ohio State, Virginia Tech, Boston College, and Division III Wittenberg, he has earned a reputation as an innovator in injury mitigation, joint capability, and athlete longevity. His credentials include SCCC, CSCS, FRCms, FRSC, FRA, and USAW. https://teachhoops.com/ Title: What Does It Really Take to Be a Coaching Family? Subtitle: Coach Collins sits down with his wife for an honest conversation about the season behind the season Show Notes Every coach has a support system at home that never gets a microphone. This episode changes that. Coach Collins is joined by his wife for a candid conversation about what the coaching life actually looks like from the other side of the gym, the parts nobody puts on a highlight reel. What we cover: The honest version of a season What November through March really feels like at home. The missed dinners, the late bus rides, the games watched from the stands with a kid on your lap. Handling the losses together What it is like to live with someone after a tough loss, and what actually helps. Spoiler, it is usually not basketball talk. The stuff parents and fans say How a coaching spouse hears the criticism differently, and how you protect your family from the noise without hiding from the community. Kids in the gym Raising children inside a program. The upside of a childhood spent around a team, and the tradeoffs that come with it. Setting boundaries that stick The rules that keep a coaching marriage healthy. When the phone goes down, when film stops, and what one protected day a week can do for a household. The offseason problem Everybody thinks coaches get a break. Camps, open gyms, recruiting, and clinics say otherwise. How to actually take time off and mean it. What she wishes coaches knew Straight talk for every coach listening about what your family needs from you that you may be missing. Why it is worth it The relationships, the kids who come back years later, the shared purpose. The reasons a coaching family keeps signing up for another year. "You're not a cooler baseball player, and then you sprinkle some Jesus dust around the clubhouse." Yan Gomes spent 13 seasons behind the plate in the big leagues, and he's got a blunt take on how identity actually works — and how most guys get it backwards.Yan made history in 2012 as the first Brazilian-born player ever to reach Major League Baseball. He caught Game 7 of the 2016 World Series for Cleveland, won a ring with Washington in 2019, and finished his career with the Cubs. This past February, he went back to Brazil to coach their World Baseball Classic team — the first time he's ever put the coaching hat on.But the heart of this one is what happens after. Yan and Chris both know the strange math of retiring young from a pro sport, and they get honest about it: the bubble you live in as a player, the people you never got to meet, and why Yan's word for this season of life is simply "available."He also gets into the comparison trap that eats up Christian athletes, why his father-in-law — All-Star pitcher Atlee Hammaker — told him to stop worrying about pressure and start breathing it in, and the three verses he's built his life around: one for faith, one for family, one for friends.Plus: Chris finally gets to hear what the UT locker room said about him, and Yan admits the Gomes family dinner table is not always a picture of Christlike serenity. As always, we thank our title sponsor https://onecountry.com for making this podcast possible — catch every episode on the OneCountry app — and https://konexial.com for their continued support of the show.COACH ME UP TEAMhttps://onecountry.comhttps://konexial.comFollow us on Twitter:https://twitter.com/CoachJimmyDykeshttps://twitter.com/ChrisBurke02•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••Hosted by Jimmy Dykes and Chris BurkeProduced by Jared Mark Fincher — https://jaredmarkfincher.comAll audio is subject to copyright 2026 Jimmy Dykes Inc.Contact us at coachmeuppodcast@gmail.com
