Chris and Ed kick off the second annual Summer of Fear with guests Cassidy and Amanda from "Drinking the Koolaid" for a terrifying deep dive into tsunamis. From the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami and the 2011 disaster in Japan to ancient waves that may have helped topple civilizations, the crew explores what causes tsunamis, why they don't look like movie waves, and why seeing one usually means it's already too late to run.SHOW NOTESBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/scared-all-the-time--7084296/support.Get the latest episodes of our bonus show NEW FEAR UNLOCKED -- and a whole lot more! --by supporting the show on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/ScaredAllTheTime

Galatians: Life in the Spirit, Hot and Cold with Guest Rev. Dr. Ross LockhartGalatians 2:11-21We all know the swing between great days and not‑so‑great ones, whether at work, on the golf course, or in our relationships. This Sunday is Pentecost—the birth of the church and one of Peter's greatest ministry moments—yet our series in Galatians 2:11–21 shows him on a far less shining day. As followers of Jesus, we're invited to make sense of these highs and lows and what it means to be spiritually hot or cold as we grow in faith.Rev. Dr. Ross Lockhart is Professor of Mission Studies at Vancouver School of Theology and Dean of St. Andrew's Hall. Ross loves teaching, researching and writing in the area of practical theology, with a special emphasis upon missiology. Ross holds a PhD from Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam, and is author of Lessons from Laodicea: Missional Leadership in a Culture of Affluence; Beyond Snakes and Shamrocks: St. Patrick's Missional Leadership Lessons for Today; co-author of Better Than Brunch: Missional Churches in Cascadia as well as Christianity: An Asian Religion in Vancouver and editor of Christian Witness in Cascadian Soil. For reflection & discussion:What stood out to you most from the sermon, and why?How does this message challenge or affirm your current understanding of God or faith? Was there a specific story, scripture, or phrase that you found especially meaningful or difficult? How can we live this out together in our daily lives or as a group? What is one step you feel invited to take this week in response to the sermon?

Interview with Graham Downs, President & CEO, Cascadia MineralsRecording date: 12th May 2026Cascadia Minerals is making significant strides in the central Yukon following its merger with Granite Creek Copper to acquire the Carmacks copper-gold deposit. As major mining companies increasingly seek reliable assets in stable jurisdictions, Cascadia is positioning itself as a prime player with this road-accessible, high-grade project located just 10 kilometers from grid power.Unlike typical broadly disseminated porphyry systems, the Carmacks deposit features upgraded, structurally controlled zones averaging 50 meters wide at approximately 1.5% copper. The project currently boasts a resource of 651 million pounds of copper and 300,000 ounces of gold at over 1% copper equivalent. Because the deposit comes to the surface with clean granite contacts, future mining operations and wall rock characterization are expected to be notably straightforward. To unlock the project's full potential, Cascadia launched a 15,000 to 20,000-meter drill program for 2026, aiming to double the existing resource to 1.5 billion pounds of copper. Thanks to the site's excellent infrastructure, drilling costs have plummeted to $400 per meter—a stark contrast to the $500,000-plus per hole often required at remote, helicopter-accessed projects. A key focus of this year's program is Zone A, located 11 kilometers north of the main deposit. Historical drilling here revealed exceptional grades, including 22 meters of 2% copper and 2 grams per ton of gold.Agnico Eagle has recognized the project's potential, taking a 14% strategic stake to fund exploration through 2027. This partnership also includes a $12 million earn-in option for Cascadia's grassroots Stikine terrain projects. With this financial backing and a resource that is already mostly in the measured and indicated categories, Cascadia plans to bypass a Preliminary Economic Assessment. Instead, the company will leverage existing baseline environmental work to advance directly to a Pre-Feasibility Study, fast-tracking the timeline for this promising North American copper asset.Learn more: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/companies/atac-resources-ltdSign up for Crux Investor: https://cruxinvestor.com

20% boost in fuel economy: Perfect timing for Trucker of the Month's new-truck investment

Overdrive Radio

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 27, 2026 30:50

Year 2025 was a rollercoaster downhill for Overdrive March Trucker of the Month Greg Labosky., headquartered in Connecticut. Coming off gains made during a relatively steady 2024 in the 2017 Freightliner purchased used several years prior, and with a semi-finalist nod in the Trucker of the Year competition, mechanical breakdowns yielded tens of thousands' worth in repairs. Copious downtime, too, of course. As he neared the end of payments on his nonetheless manageable note on the unit, he started afresh for 2026 with a brand-new truck you'll hear about in this episode of Overdrive Radio for April 27, 2026. Overdrive Senior Editor Matt Cole told parts of the tale of Labosky's fortuitous investment last month in this feature: https://overdriveonline.com/15820954 You'll hear Cole throughout the podcast in conversation with the owner just a couple weeks into the huge fuel spike that followed immediately on the heels of U.S.-Israeli bombardment of Iran. Owner-operator Labosky hauls with authority exclusively in the Amazon Relay system, often moving under short-term contracts that adjust fuel surcharges regularly as well as offer toll reimbursements on expected routes in the system between pickup and delivery. With close scrutiny on the underlying linehaul rate, too, he's able to capitalize on opportunity to pocket extra revenues with fuel efficiency, smart purchasing and alternate routing, as the owner details. Freight in the system's kept him moving, he said when he and Cole spoke, but fuel prices where Labosky buys, away from the big truck stop chains, had already added $1.50/gal. to cross $5 . That was a far sight better than what he was seeing at bigger fuel stops in the region, some advertising north of $7/gal., even. Just why do we call his purchase of a new International LT tractor to replace the ailing Freightliner fortuitous? Labosky's improved his fuel mileage considerably, by well more than mile per gallon already, not even past break-in. "Using the Moive system, which I use habitually to keep track of my fuel purchases, I've been averaging 7.9-8.8 miles per gallon," he said, between 16% to near 20% better than the Cascadia. Gains couldn't come at a better time. Dive into Cole's full conversation here with an owner who's truly on top of his trucking game -- minding Ps and Qs, learning the intricacies of mechanics, of contracting in the Amazon system -- with close attention to all the nitty gritty details of what makes a one-truck business truly hum. It ends with something between pep talk and warning for both himself and other owners, particularly younger owners early in their career and overwhelmed by the day-to-day grind, which he knows all too well. He referenced a conversation with his significant other, who as significant others are prone to do hammers home the need to keep building retirement savings. Labosky, 55, knows he's not getting any younger. Sticking to regular retirement savings as a truck owner-operator is hard for a myriad reasons, not least that "everyone's so used to working and grinding all the time," Labosky said. But "we all have to face the realization that we can't just work continuously. We have to start looking at the long-term end game. ... putting money aside for that." Social Security alone won't "make anyone a good living," he well knows. Start building that retirement nest egg now. Odds are you're going to need it. If you know your costs backwards and forwards like owner-operator Labosky, know that Overdrive's Load Profit Analyzer tool https://overdriveonline.com/load-analyzer -- can be quick way to assess a rate offer's potential profit level, not only per-mile or lump sum but per unit of time, too. Get your own business -- or nominate another owner to compete -- in the Trucker of the Year competition for 2026: https://overdriveonline.com/toptrucker

Open the anthology Women of the Beat Generation to page 256 and read the words of Brother Antoninus, William Everson, who said, "A series of women poets emerged in San Francisco who identified with the establish Beat Poets even as they challenged them on their grounds, including Joanne Kyger and Mary Norbert Körte. Of these, the career of Mary Norbert Körte most sharply defines the historic tension between the women of service and the women of passion. The strongest woman poet to emerge in the west, she became a student of Lew Welch, cracking convention within the bastion of the religious order." Raised in a devout family, joining the convent right out of high school in 1952, and stunned by 2 events in the tumultuous 1960s, Mary Norbert Körte continued to make striking poems deeply connected to the land where she lived in extreme southern Cascadia, in a town called Willets, California, until she passed away in 2022. The 2027 lineup also adds a first-ever iX4 coupe-SUV in two variants, an iX3 in three configurations launching in North America this summer, an electric iX5, and an i3 M60 alongside a full electric M3 positioned as the spiritual successor to today's M3 Competition.TESLA BERLIN RUNS HALF FULL AS UNION ROW SIMMERSTesla's Gigafactory Berlin produced 211,235 vehicles in 2024 against a stated annual capacity of 375,000 — a 56% utilisation rate — and output has since declined further, with the factory now reportedly running at around 40% capacity and BYD outselling Tesla in Europe in January 2026. Labour tensions are deepening ahead of works council elections, with IG Metall pursuing collective wage agreements similar to those at Volkswagen and BMW, while Tesla filed a criminal complaint against a union member and Elon Musk warned that "outside organisations" could hinder the site's ambition to become Europe's largest factory complex.T&E: LOCAL BATTERIES COULD CUT COST GAPA Transport & Environment report argues the EU can shrink the cost gap between domestically made and Chinese batteries from 90% to around 30% through scaled-up local production, with higher automation and lower scrap rates potentially cutting the gap to $14 per kWh by 2030 — equivalent to roughly €500 on an average EV. The findings align with the EU's forthcoming Industrial Accelerator Act, which targets ~70% local content thresholds for publicly supported EVs, though some carmakers warn this risks making batteries prohibitively expensive while T&E's Julia Poliscanova calls it "a sovereignty premium worth paying," particularly given China's export restrictions on critical minerals.TRIBUNAL BACKS 5% VAT ON SOME PUBLIC CHARGINGA UK tax tribunal has ruled against HMRC in a case brought by community charging operator Charge My Street, finding that a de-minimis clause in the VAT Act 1994 — capping "domestic" supplies at 1,000 kWh per month per customer — can qualify most neighbourhood charge points for the 5% reduced VAT rate rather than the 20% rate currently applied to public charging. The ruling is significant for drivers without off-street parking, though it also raises commercial complications, as many charge point operators have multi-year contracts priced on 20% VAT, and it opens the door to networks gaming the threshold by splitting sites or charger banks into separate "premises".ŠKODA OPENS €205M CTP BATTERY PLANT IN CZECHIAŠkoda has opened a €205 million (~$216M), 55,000 m² battery production facility at Mladá Boleslav, making it the Volkswagen Group's largest BEV battery system site and the first VW Group plant in Europe to manufacture cell-to-pack (CTP) systems at scale. The line produces over 1,100 battery systems per day — targeting up to 335,000 annually — and Škoda's switch to LFP cells has cut battery production costs by 30% compared to its previous MEB systems.MG CLOSES IN ON EUROPEAN FACTORY PLANMG has narrowed its European factory search to five countries, aiming to begin production by 2027 to circumvent the EU's 45% tariff on Chinese-built BEVs — a levy that caused MG's European BEV sales to fall 33% to 48,479 units last year, even as overall European sales rose 26% to 307,282 units in 2025. MG Europe head William Wang declared "it's time to build local," positioning the brand as a European marque rather than a Chinese import, as rivals BYD, Chery, and Leapmotor also race to establish European manufacturing footholds.CITROËN UPDATES C5 AIRCROSS PHEV FOR EURO 7Citroën has refreshed the C5 Aircross plug-in hybrid with a new 21.5 kWh battery (17.8 kWh usable), delivering up to 96 km (60 miles) of WLTP combined electric range — a 33% improvement over the outgoing model and ahead of rivals like the Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4 (69 km) and Ford Kuga PHEV (64 km). Priced in the €40–50k range, Citroën positions the updated C5 Aircross as one of the most tax-efficient family SUVs in the mainstream segment across EU markets while still targeting Euro 7 compliance.CANADIAN TRIAL PEGS ELECTRIC SEMI SAVINGS AT $157,126A real-world Canadian trial by FPInnovations' PIT Group and Transport Canada tracked two commercial fleets over 12 months and more than 200,000 km of Montreal-area operations, projecting savings of $157,126 per truck over six years — described as the most comprehensive dataset of its kind outside controlled demonstrations. The study compared the Freightliner eCascadia (BEV) directly against the diesel Cascadia and found that despite the electric truck's higher purchase price, higher-than-expected maintenance costs, and lower residual value, a six-year saving still emerged and may prove conservative.DENZA D9 ELECTRIC MPV ARRIVES IN AUSTRALIADenza has launched the D9 electric MPV in Australia from A$85,990, powered by a 103.3 kWh Blade Battery with 200 kW DC fast charging, 11 kW AC charging, and V2L capability across both variants, all built on BYD's e-Platform 3.0 with a cell-to-body battery structure. The seven-seat, three-row cabin targets the premium end of the people-mover segment with nappa leather, open-pore white ash wood trim, a 14-speaker Dynaudio sound system, adaptive suspension, and second-row captain's chairs offering over 900 mm of legroom, massage, and individual screens.CHINESE CAR BRANDS SPLIT US BUYERSA Cox Automotive survey of 802 prospective US car buyers found the country almost evenly divided — 38% would consider Chinese brands if available, 39% would not — with Gen Z showing notably higher openness at 69%. Chinese brands remain locked out of the US market by high tariffs and software regulations, but cost pressure is a key driver of interest, with 68% of open buyers expecting lower prices against an average new car price of $50,000, while BYD has already surpassed Tesla in European EV sales.

In this episode of The Tactics Meeting, Dan sits down with Patrick Gallagher, Executive Director of the Marine Exchange of Puget Sound, for a practical conversation about what “response readiness” actually looks like in the Pacific Northwest—when the weather's bad, systems fail, and you still have to keep the region moving. They dig into the Marine Exchange's behind-the-scenes role supporting WSMC's 24/7 watch, the value of resilient AIS coverage, and how the Marine Exchange has even backed up the Coast Guard's Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) when federal systems stumble. Along the way, they talk continuity planning (generators, fuel, cloud redundancy), the reality that help may not arrive quickly in a Cascadia-scale event, and what preparedness looks like when you're building it with limited resources. Topics include: Continuity of operations for maritime response and vessel traffic oversight AIS as an operational backbone (and why redundancy matters) Coordinating notifications, early incident intelligence, and on-call incident command Shipboard fire readiness, Unified Command, and hard lessons learned Communications resilience (including radio) and emerging hazards like lithium-ion battery fires

In this powerful episode of Unleashing Intuition Secrets, Michael Jaco welcomes Larry Ballard for an in-depth slide presentation exploring what he describes as a coming period of global upheaval — spiritually, politically, economically, and geologically. Ballard outlines what he believes is an unfolding sequence of events: whistleblower revelations, institutional fallout, banking and corporate failures, and a broader global reset — followed by what he describes as an American restoration and spiritual revival. He argues that both communism and crony capitalism must fall, proposing a new commodity-backed economic system built on tangible assets such as gold, silver, uranium, platinum, wheat, copper, and other resources to replace fiat currency. The conversation explores tariffs, manufacturing revival, resource leverage, and claims of suppressed technologies. Ballard also connects current global events to biblical warnings and celestial signs, including recent U.S. eclipse paths crossing key regions and historic fault zones. The discussion expands into earth-change scenarios and geologic concerns — including seismic risks in the New Madrid and Cascadia zones, sinkhole and limestone vulnerabilities in Florida, California coastal uplift, potential volcanic activity in the Appalachian region, and broader “Ring of Fire” activity. Ballard emphasizes spiritual preparedness above all, advising prayerful discernment on whether to relocate or remain in higher-risk regions to help stabilize communities. The episode also touches on alternative community models, durable infrastructure, real estate reform, 3D-printed construction, and Ballard's personal spiritual framework centered on virtue and intentional prayer. He announces his updated book Crusade: Restoring the Republic and discusses an upcoming Florida conference. This is a wide-ranging conversation on collapse, cleansing, restoration, and what Ballard calls “God's reset.”

'I will not idle, ever': Owner-op channels old-school approach for emissions-fail prevention

In this week's Overdrive Radio, part 2 of our series honoring our Trucker of the Year, John Penn, for the big win for 2025. Part 1, ICYMI: https://overdriveonline.com/15815690 In this edition, Penn details his approach to maintenance with an experiment he's conducted to extend oil drain intervals beyond the manufacturer-recommended 75,000 miles for his 2019 Freightliner Cascadia. Also: You'll hear about Penn's close attention to customer opportunity, and keys to prevention when it comes to the maintenance issues with emissions system in the Cascadia -- no "deleted" emissions here. He's running with all the sensors and the diesel particular filter, the diesel exhaust fluid dosing, and the rest, and hitting big fuel-efficiency numbers we detailed in the last episode featuring him. Above 10 mpg for a lifetime average is certainly nothing to sniff at, but has he been plagued with sensor failures and other problems common to emissions-equipped diesels? The answer is not really, though he's had some minor issues for certain. Part of his success on that front starts with his approach to the used market for such trucks to begin with -- with a keen eye not just on a prospective purchase's miles for previous-life wear and tear, but engine hours, too. The lower the hours, the less the unit's prior owner likely idled the rig -- one of the big killers of emissions equipment in modern trucks in his view. Penn, despite his late-model equipment, might well qualify among the oldest of the old-school in that regard. As he put it about his own idling practice: "This piece of machinery is feeding us and keeping a roof over our head," Penn noted, "so I want to treat it the best I can. I will not idle, ever. I don't care how hot it is." That's right, even in Texas in mid-summer, where he finds himself often enough at the end of one or another of his LTL furniture runs. "I don't have an APU or anything," he added, but he does utilize a fan and his truck's window screens. He's comfortable with the tradeoff. "I'd rather put my truck's health in front of my comfort," he said, laughing. He does run with a fuel-fired heater for those dangrously cold temps, but it's safe to say Trucker of the Year John Penn is one tough customer when it comes to downtime OTR. In the podcast, dive into new opportunities he's set himself up for with diligent, always-on customer service and networking. "You never know when an opportunity is going to pop up," he said, about potential new direct freight opportunites he details here. And he's made great strides, too, paying his growing experience forward to peers. There's good possibility of a bit of expansion for his one-truck JP Transport business as soon as this quarter, with addition of a leased owner he's really bonded with as a back-and-forth sounding board for trucking information, knowledge, advice. The like-minded pair may soon make for a great two-truck hauling team in JP Transport. Enter the 2026 Trucker of the Year competition: https://overdriveonline.com/toptrucker

Send us a textHappy 2026. Thanks to Ona Christie Martin, if you listened to my end of year episode, then you know it is the year of the fire horse. She's incredible. And of the many mind-blowing statements she made during the course of that interview, one that has stood out again and again since we spoke, was be the rider, not the horse. Don't get caught leaning over the horse's head. Sit back in the saddle, hold the reigns and direct that fire horse. And one other gem? Turning circles with the horse IS productive. It calms the horse, and makes for a fruitful path forward. With fire on my mind, I got to thinking about Earth's Ring of Fire, a circle of fiery volcanoes in the Pacific Ocean. My first full panic attack occurred in a hotel room half a globe away from CASCADIA - but it was curiously part of Cascadia's legendary Ring of Fire. We were on the final days of a trip of a lifetime to Japan that included a visit to Disney's two parks - Disneyland and Tokyo Sea - which by the way was hands-down the best theme park I've ever been to before or since.  Okay, back my first panic attack. We were staying in a hotel on Tokyo Bay and somewhere around 3am I woke up, heart racing, sweating, gasping in enough air not to faint. Everyone else remained asleep, which was better than them freaking out along with me. Heart pounding, sweating, crying. I basically thought I must be dying. If you've not experienced a panic attack, well, I hope you never do. As the worst of it began to subside, I had an urge to press my hands against something ice cold. The best I could find in the slim room was a window. I sobbed, wiping my face with a pajama sleeve. After fifteen minutes or so, the attack had run its course. Thinking back on that night, I believe while I slept in that hotel room on Tokyo Bay, a place rife with traumas, some as recent as World War II, I felt those residual energies, anger, fear, panic felt by Japanese citizens and soldiers alike. All those energies would be amplified by the geothermal activity, wouldn't they? The Ring of Fire is potent medicine for Earth, and maybe even for humanity. Let's get into it.Show Sources/MaterialsRing of Fire Basics, WikipediaWhat is the Pacific Ring of Fire?
