This episode we will be picking out games off the top Open Drafting Games, some games we missed and some we don't own. To touch on the key points again. Open Drafting and Market games will have a lot of overlap. Key Characteristics of Open Drafting: Shared Pool: There's a central display or common area where all the items available for selection are laid out. Visibility: All players can see all the available options in the pool at all times. This is the defining feature of "open" drafting. Turn-Based Selection: Players take turns choosing and taking one or more items from this shared pool. Once an item is taken, it's removed from the pool (or sometimes replaced immediately, depending on the game). Strategic Interaction: Because everyone can see what's available and what others are taking, open drafting encourages a high level of player interaction and strategic depth. Players aren't just thinking about what they need for their own strategy, but also: "Hate Drafting": Taking an item that might not be optimal for you, but is crucial for an opponent's strategy, thereby "denying" them that piece. This can be a friendly jab or a crucial tactical move. Anticipation: Trying to predict what other players will take on their turns based on their visible boards or strategies. Adapting: Adjusting your own plans if a key item you wanted is taken by an opponent. How it Differs from Other Drafting Types: The main contrast to open drafting is closed drafting (often called "pick-and-pass" or "hand drafting"): Closed Drafting: Players typically receive a hand of cards (or a set of items) and select one (or more) to keep, then pass the rest of their hand to the next player. The key difference is that the pool of options available to the next player is unknown until they receive the new hand. Players don't see the full communal pool; they only see their current hand. Sam and Emilio chat with Cascadia Pizza co-founder Thomas Reinhard and Franchise Fastlane VP Carin Skowronsky about their unique wood-fired pizza franchise. Thomas shares his journey from law school to pizza entrepreneur, while the team breaks down Cascadia's innovative three-pronged business model, combining brick-and-mortar locations with food trucks and catering. With authentic wood-fired ovens from Italy and a digestible proprietary dough blend, this community-focused brand is disrupting the pizza industry. If you're looking for a franchise opportunity that combines quality, community, and multiple revenue streams, this one is worth a bite (and listen).
Send us a textAuthentic Neapolitan pizza finally gets the franchise treatment it deserves! In this captivating conversation, we sit down with Trey Reinhart, a Cascadia Pizza franchisee who's redefining what's possible in pizza franchising.Trey's story starts far from the world of food - managing truck stops and gas stations - before recognizing an opportunity when the corporate world began squeezing his entrepreneurial spirit. When his brother started developing Cascadia Pizza, Trey spent seven months learning the craft before taking the plunge to ownership. Now, just six months into operation, his two-story restaurant with rooftop dining regularly reaches capacity on weekends, despite having opened during November (typically a restaurant's worst month). What makes this concept unique? Cascadia Pizza features authentic wood-fired ovens imported piece by piece from Italy, assembled by specialists flown in from New York. These ovens cook perfect Neapolitan-style pizzas in just 90 seconds, creating an efficient operation with impressive margins. Trey has already optimized his business to achieve approximately 23-24% labor costs and 21.5% food costs - remarkable efficiency for a new restaurant. The most exciting development? Trey just added a food truck to his operation, allowing him to cater weddings and events while simultaneously marketing his brick-and-mortar location. He's already booked six weddings without advertising, showing the tremendous demand for quality, authentic pizza in non-traditional settings.Want to explore this unique franchise opportunity in an underserved pizza niche? A new study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) warns that when we experience the next Cascadia subduction zone earthquake, land near the coast may rise or fall significantly over a short period of time—think +/-5 feet in five minutes. If it falls, it could significantly expose new parts of our coast to sea level rise and coastal flooding. Check out the coverage from the Lost Coast Outpost or read the study yourself.Dr. Jay Patton of the California Geological Survey joins the show to discuss why land may suddenly jump or fall, the archeological evidence of past earthquake-driven subsidence, and the consequences of such a sudden shift. As humans, we long for stability, yet the Earth tells us in many languages—erosion, ice melt, the seasons—that all is fleeting in an endless cycle of creation and destruction. Grappling with her fear of change caused by wildfires in Montana and the long-overdue Cascadia earthquake in the Pacific Northwest, Erica Berry confronts how the colonial erasure of Indigenous stories of place and her own limited sense of time have blinded her to the Earth's dramatic flux. As she learns that impermanence doesn't always signal loss, but rather the transformation of form, she finds a way to hold the fluctuation of the lands she loves. Read the essay. Anyone who has looked into the Sasquatch phenomenon knows about the 1967 Patterson-Gimlin film, and it's star, affectionately known as Patty, who glanced over her shoulder in the famous home movie frame 352 to become an icon of Bigfoot Lore forever. The Patterson-Gimlin footage ignited a nation-wide frenzy of Bigfoot searches, sightings, and debates and the majority of this activity, in the early years, was focused on the American Northwest; our debut star having come to us from the Bluff Creek area of Del Norte County California. And while the vast forests of Cascadia may have given us the lion's share of Sasquatch reports, the fact is that ape-like cryptids have been reported in every state. In fact, reports of such creatures from the East Coast have risen to rival some of the bast tales from the Northwest. In this episode of Renegade Files we will explore the misty Blue Ridge Mountains, the humid swamps of Florida, and many woodland locations along the Eastern US corridors in search of Sasquatch Stories from credible witnesses. We'll analyze how Bigfoot Sightings in the East differ from those more traditional encounters we all grew up on from the West, while also considering how this humanoid cryptid changes as we move from South to North. In doing so, you may be surprised at how these variations actually combine to lend credence, and perhaps even evidence for the existence of one of the world's most famous elusive beast. So join me now and together we will sort out the sordid details of Sasquatch and Bigfoot: East Coast / West Coast Beef.
