Bill Oram had a take. The sports columnist of The Oregonian/OregonLive went to Reser Stadium on Saturday for Oregon State's spring game, wasn't impressed and wrote about it. If a spring football game exists only to get players live reps and to give coaches fresh film to obsess over until August, then Oregon State knocked it out of the park on Saturday. But if there is an opportunity at the end of spring practices to energize your fanbase, build excitement and tell your story, well, it was a whiff. That column had mixed reviews in Corvallis. Naturally, Oram doubled down, writing on Wednesday that Oregon State needs to start thinking a little bit like Oregon. My advice to Beavers fans — and, more important, the people calling the shots — is to stop being so proud that you can't admit something needs to change. And, well, guys like Bret aren't handling that one well. I was at Oregon State's spring game, too, and had similar thoughts as Oram. We discussed them on this week's Traffic Report. Then, Kevin Palmer stops by to let us know what he wrangled out of the Augusta gift shop. For more, listen to this podcast in the player above or find us over on Apple or Spotify. On Deck: I'll have a report from Eugene following Oregon's Saturday spring game. — Tyson Alger, The I-5 Corridor This is a public episode. Bill Oram, a Tillamook native, has covered the Los Angeles Lakes for nine seasons. As of Tuesday night, the Lakers have now missed the playoffs in seven of those. While movie projects and books have been written about the Showtime and Kobe/Shaq Lakers, Bill might just be SOL. “Probably have the worst record of any relatively long-term Lakers beat writer in franchise history,” Oram said on this week's episode of The I-5 Corridor podcast. “…Nobody wants to read ‘Slowtime.'” We talk the Lakers' disaster, what it's like to work among the most famous people in the world — and, most importantly, Oregon high school mascots. Not all teams get to 1-0 the same way. The result is just the same. Oregon is 1-0. Ohio State is 1-0. Montana is 1-0. The good teams are where they're supposed to be coming out of a weekend that otherwise torpedoed the Pac-12 North. The Ducks won 31-24 against Fresno State. Oregon State, Washington State, Stanford, Cal and yes, Washington, all fell. Aidan and Tyson sift through the wreckage on this week's episode of The I-5 Corridor. Then, it's the debut of Picking Oregon, a four-person Oregon-themed fantasy draft that could become a monthly part of the show with a rotating cast of characters from around Portland. This week's topic: The Best things about fall in Oregon. Our pickers are: Brian Koch of Lombard House. Elliot Njus of The Oregonian. Kevin Palmer of The Little Cuties Hockey Club. Tyson Alger of The I-5 Corridor. Yes, there are other Oregon Ducks podcasts out there. But none of them have Apple Cider donut takes like this one. — Tyson This is a public episode. This week Kevin Palmer tells us what's wrong with the world today as we cover Aerosmith's 1993 number one hit from the Mainstream Rock Chart, "Livin' on the Edge". This song was the first single off of what would become one of the band's biggest selling records of their career. Kicking off a series of music videos that would spark a resurgence in Aerosmith's popularity, critics were not quite convinced, comparing their new sound to a watered down Bon Jovi. What is the real story being told in the music video? What politician won't stop using this song at campaign rallies? Do you have liver cake or wooly mammoth steak livin' in your fridge? This week we hack the NOPR to bring you a very special holiday episode featuring the only Christmas song to ever reach number one: The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late)" the 1958 hit by David Seville and the Chipmunks. Kevin Palmer confesses his unhealthy adoration of holiday music, we pull back the curtain to reveal the mastermind behind the Chipmunks franchise, and we break down the ground-breaking technology used to create this holiday classic. Have the Chipmunks sold more records than Guns N Roses? What action film featured this song in a scene where Jason Statham kills a whole bunch of people? What is Chipmunk Sludge? This week Kevin Palmer slips past the goalie for his hat-trick appearance covering Guns N Roses' sole number one hit, the 1988 chart topper "Sweet Child O' Mine." Riding the wave of the excess of the 80s LA hair metal scene, the bluesy rockers with metal chops and punk sensibility released Appetite For Destruction in 1987 with very little reaction from fans and critics. After a year of touring and supporting the record, they grew to become one of the world's biggest and most controversial bands. After a string of several singles, they finally topped the chart with the ballad that was nearly left off the album. How did the band initially come up with the now-iconic lead guitar riff? What Australian band recorded an eerily similar song almost 7 years before GNR did? What do Axl Rose and a mountain bike tire both have in common? This week Kevin Palmer returns to the studio to take a savage journey into the heart of "Sunshine Superman", the 1966 number one hit by Donovan. As the catalyst for the psychedelic rock movement, the father of Ione Skye, and a major inspiration for the Beatles, Donovan is at the center of a pop culture universe so vast and interconnected, there should be a thing called Six Degrees of Donovan. What Beatles song did Donovan supposedly write? What fate befell the Love Syndicate and Dreamworld Earth in the #7 issue of Final Crisis? Would the movie Wayne's World exist if it wasn't for "Sunshine Superman"? All these questions and more will be answered in this weeks episode of Single File. Your participation matters. The Total Tutor Neil Haley will interview Teresa Palmer of LIGHTS OUT. When Rebecca (Teresa Palmer) left home, she thought that her childhood fears were behind her. As a young girl growing up, she was never really sure of what was real when the lights went out at night. Now, her little brother Martin (Gabriel Bateman) is experiencing the same unexplained and terrifying events that jeopardized her safety and sanity. Holding a mysterious attachment to their mother (Maria Bello), a supernatural entity has returned with a vengeance to torment the entire family. Actress and model Teresa Palmer has gathered some impressive film credits. She was born in Adelaide, South Australia, to Kevin Palmer, an investor, and Paula Sanders, a former missionary and nurse. She completed high school at Mercedes College in 2003, where she was a popular student who was well-known for her practical jokes. She worked in a Cotton On outlet in Rundle Mall until she was discovered and cast on the spot--without an audition--in her feature film debut and breakthrough role in 2:37 (2006). Made by first-time writer/director/producer Murali K. Thalluri, the film competed in the 2006 Cannes Film Festival in "Un Certain Regard" and chronicles the lives of six students over the course of day and ends in a devastating suicide.
