JFK The Enduring Secret
Episode 270 Bobby Baker Part 4 Bonus Episode Baker In His Own Words Regarding The Story Of The Resignation

JFK The Enduring Secret

Play Episode Listen Later May 12, 2025 49:05

This is  Part 4 of the mini-series that covers the story of Bobby Baker. This mini-series is part of a larger series covering  Billy Sol Estes, Mac Wallace, Bobby Baker and other members of Johnson's Texas inner circle.  All of these  men  were quite intertwined around Johnson at the time of the assassination. They  were involved in circumstances that were closing in on Johnson too and that provided him great motive in the killing of the President.  The story is extraordinary.  Today's episode covers the civil lawsuit filed by Capitol Vending against Serv-U corporation. A lawsuit  whose allegations revealed a kickback scheme involving Baker, his law partner Ernest Tucker and lobbyist Fred Black.  The civil suit touched off a firestorm of press investigation that led to other allegations which surfaced. This led Senator John J. Williams of Delaware to begin his  own review, requesting that Baker address the matter with the Senate leadership. Today we tell the story around this event as Baker himself told it, reading directly from his  book Wheeling and Dealing. From Lyndon Johnson's vantage point, here was Bobby  Baker who was known as Little Lyndon and was perhaps the second most powerful man in the senate. He was  Bobby Baker the Secretary to the Majority, the right hand man of Lyndon Johnson in the senate....and just months before the assassination, allegations of wrong doing by Baker begin to surface. Baker declined to meet with Senators, and alternatively chose to resign his position as majority secretary of the  Senate. The abrupt resignation did not stave off the inevitable,as Williams and other republican senators called for a formal Senate investigation into the affairs of Bobby Baker. They got it. And thus began an eighteen month internal Senate investigation conducted by the Senate Rules and Administration Committee along with  investigations by the FBI, the IRS and  a grand jury investigation as well. Investigations that eventually became a prelude to  Baker's ultimate prosecution by federal authorities and a conviction and jail sentence.    Baker's resignation from one of the most powerful positions in the country happened just prior to the President's assassination and created a growing rumor that the scandal would lead back to Johnson and result in his political demise or more...  The Republicans smelled blood in the water.  Join us in this third   episode of what is sure to be a fascinating series on another  incredible story that envelopes around Lyndon Johnson at the time of the Kennedy assassination.  Rumors of Johnson's involvement began to swirl almost immediately after the President's assassination and there is a defined school of thought within the JFK assassination research community that staunchly believes in Johnson's involvement. His involvement  in both the assassination and its cover up. Join us in one of the most fascinating story tells of the Kennedy assassination and stick around as we will be returning to the Mexico City series right after we complete this min-series that was spawned by the recent release of the Billy Sol Estes and Cliff Carter tape that the two recorded in 1971. Folks, you just can't write this stuff. Even as early as 1964, rumors and serious concerns over  the lone gunman theory and the evidence that might contravene it,  were becoming a major concern for the government and the commission. Conspiracy theories were contrary to the government's stated narrative from the very beginning. This  real-life story is more fascinating than fiction.  No matter whether you are a serious researcher or a casual student, you will enjoy the fact filled narrative and story as  we relive one of the most shocking moments in American History. An event that changed the nation and changed the world forever.

Finding Hope in Seasons of Missed Expectations with Sharon Epps

“The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him.” - Lamentations 3:25We all make plans, but life doesn't always go as expected. Missed expectations can be painful, especially when we've done everything “right.” But even in the waiting, God is still at work. Sharon Epps joins us today to share how we can wait with faith and walk forward with hope.Sharon Epps is the President of Kingdom Advisors, FaithFi's parent organization. Kingdom Advisors serves the broad Christian financial industry by educating and equipping professionals to integrate biblical wisdom and financial expertise. When Life Doesn't Go According to PlanWhether it's the market underperforming, a medical bill that derails your finances, or family tension after a loved one's passing, unmet expectations can leave us reeling. But the greatest missed expectation in human history was the cross. The disciples expected a triumphant king. Instead, they watched their Savior crucified. In Luke 19:37, they praised Him; days later, they scattered in despair. In that gap between what we hoped for and what we received, we often wrestle with fear, frustration, or confusion. But it's there, right in the void, that God meets us.When our expectations are shattered, our reactions often fall into two extremes:Resignation: We lower our expectations to avoid disappointment, but in doing so, we risk losing hope altogether.Control: We force outcomes, striving and manipulating circumstances to regain a sense of stability.Neither path leads to peace. Instead, God offers a different way: waiting, but not the passive, idle kind.Psalm 27:14 says, “Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!” Biblical waiting is an active stance of trust. Pastor Kevin Queen once said, “The work God wants to do in us while we wait is as important as what we are waiting for.”Sometimes, unmet expectations reveal that our desires need to be realigned. Other times, God uses the delay to do work in us or others that couldn't happen any other way.Practical Steps for Seasons of WaitingDrawing from the book of Habakkuk, here are three practical steps for navigating seasons of waiting:Acknowledge God is at work – Even if you can't see it. Habakkuk 1:5 reminds us, “I am doing a work in your days that you would not believe if told.” Change your perspective – Ask God to help you see things from His perspective. Sometimes, hope is just a matter of viewpoint. Worship in the waiting – Worship reorients our hearts. It reminds us who God is and keeps us anchored in His character rather than our circumstances. For those walking through disappointment today, remember that God is not absent in your waiting. He is shaping, teaching, and preparing you for something greater—sometimes in ways you may not yet understand. And that's not just a consolation—it's a promise. On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:Does giving to animal charities count as tithing, or is tithing explicitly meant for giving to help people?I heard that disability and SSI are going to increase their monthly payments. Is this true?I recently sold a house and didn't give the whole tithe I intended. My financial advisor suggested waiting until a CD matures in July to avoid taxes. Zendesk Shifts to Outcome-Based Pricing; CISA Faces Resignations Amid Budget Cuts and Cyber Threats

Zendesk has made a significant shift in its pricing model by moving away from traditional seat licenses to an outcome-based pricing structure. This change, articulated by CEO Tom Eggemeier, means that customers will only pay when an AI agent successfully resolves a business problem. This approach aligns with a broader industry trend towards consumption-based pricing, where costs are directly linked to the value delivered rather than the number of licenses or usage. As organizations increasingly adopt AI technologies, this model could reshape the software landscape, pushing providers to rethink their value propositions and focus on delivering tangible business outcomes. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) is facing challenges as two high-ranking officials resign amid budget cuts that threaten to reduce its workforce by nearly 40%. The agency's Secure by Design initiative, aimed at enhancing software security, may be impacted by these changes, raising concerns about the future of national cybersecurity efforts. Additionally, CISA has halted the use of certain threat-hunting tools, which could further hinder its ability to address cyber threats effectively. The situation highlights the critical need for managed service providers (MSPs) to adapt their business models to incorporate security measures that align with evolving regulatory and customer demands.Kaseya and other companies are introducing AI-driven tools designed to enhance IT management and cybersecurity for managed service providers. Kaseya's Spring 2025 release includes features that automate workflows and improve user experience, while Cork Protection has launched a tool to help MSPs quickly assess cyber insurance policies. These innovations reflect a growing trend in the industry to leverage AI for operational efficiency and improved service delivery. As MSPs adopt these technologies, they can better position themselves to meet client needs and navigate the complexities of cybersecurity.OpenAI has partnered with The Washington Post to enable ChatGPT to summarize and link to the newspaper's reporting, marking a significant development in the relationship between AI and journalism. This collaboration aims to enhance the quality of information provided to users while raising questions about copyright and the reliability of AI-generated content. Despite OpenAI's advancements in research capabilities, concerns remain about the accuracy of AI in complex tasks. More details have emerged on the Department of Defense's Deferred Resignation Program. According to a new memo, the DOD will offer the program to eligible DOD civilian employees for a week between April 7 and 14. Voluntary early retirement authority will also be offered. The initiatives, ordered by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, come as the Pentagon is looking to reduce its reduce civilian workforce and implement the Trump administration's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) efforts. Jules Hurst III, acting undersecretary of defense for personnel and readiness, wrote in an April 1 memo that the DRP provides a “generous opportunity for employees to enter a paid leave status for several months, prior to resigning or retiring,” adding that employees pending approval or approved for the program will not be subject to return to in-person work requirements. A bipartisan bill that would establish a nonprofit foundation aimed at boosting private-sector partnerships at the National Institute of Standards and Technology was reintroduced in the House and the Senate on Tuesday. The Expanding Partnerships for Innovation and Competitiveness (EPIC) Act would create a Foundation for Standards and Metrology at the Department of Commerce, which would be focused on fostering collaborations with academia, industry, and other organizations. That new foundation would ultimately help supplement NIST's funding and — according to a release shared with FedScoop in advance of the Wednesday announcement — make the path to commercializing technologies developed by the agency easier. Meanwhile, his administration is considering giving up the U.S. military's top NATO command role, held by an American general since WWII, while the Pentagon plans to cut 60,000 civilian jobs, many held by veterans. The Fed held interest rates steady but signaled two cuts later this year, citing slower growth and inflation driven by tariffs. The DOGE-led takeover of the U.S. Institute of Peace is now facing legal challenges. In the courts, a judge ordered Trump officials to prove they followed a deportation ban, another blocked the administration's transgender military ban, and a third halted the EPA's attempt to cancel $20 billion in climate grants.
