As a pitcher, Joe earned All American Status and pitcher of the year while being named captain in the same season. Upon completion, Joe went on to sign a professional contract at the idependent level. He played until his commission started as an Officer in the United States Navy. In his last outing of professional baseball, Joe completed a complete game with a Win.

Internationally he is known for his work with The All Blacks Rugby Team, which has the highest winning percentage in the world for a professional sports franchise.
