June 5, 2026 - Season 16, Episode 146 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday morning show, Alex Kozora and I get right into discussing the Pittsburgh Steelers signing TE Robert Tonyan and LB Jamin Davis on the heels of both players coming to Pittsburgh for tryouts this past week. We discuss what each brings to the team and how each make the overall 91-man roster better. The Steelers waived UDFA TE Chamon Metayer on Thursday, so Alex and I make sure to recap that team transaction and the dead money charges that came along with it. TE Darnell Washington was signed to a four-year, $42 million contract extension since our last show, so Alex and I dedicate a lot of time to discussing the finer details of that deal and his role and possible usage on offense moving forward into the 2026 season. With the Steelers being expected to sign CB Joey Porter Jr. to a contract extension at some point prior to the regular season getting underway, Alex and I discuss what might be holding up that deal from getting done at this point of the offseason. Will the Steelers also get DT Keeanu Benton signed to an extension this offseason? Alex and I reexplore the possibility and probability of that happening and what his APY value seems to be right now. We also discuss whether a Benton contract extension could potentially wind up being for four years. OLB T.J. Watt held a media session a few days ago, so Alex and I go over the few notable things he had to say about his role and usage in the defense moving forward under the new coaching staff. With former Steelers QB Russell Wilson retiring from the NFL this week, Alex and I discuss whether he is Hall of Fame worthy or not. This 120-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the recap above, and we make sure to answer a few listener emails we have received to close out this show. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. June 3, 2026 - Season 16, Episode 145 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Wednesday morning show, Alex Kozora and I get right into discussing Pittsburgh Steelers finally signing free agent S Darnell Savage to a one-year contract on Tuesday. We also discuss the player waived to make room for Savage on the roster. The Steelers had five players in for tryouts on Tuesday, so Alex and I go over that list players, which is headlined by TE Robert Tonyan and ILB Jamin Davis. The Cleveland Browns traded away DE Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams on Monday, so Alex and I both chime in on what that deal included and now means for both teams as well as the Steelers. Alex and I then talk a little bit more about the Steelers' decision to sign OLB Nick Herbig to a four-year, $100 million contract extension on Tuesday. We discuss how the onus is now on the Steelers to find a way to get Herbig on the field more in 2026 and even it is part of a three outside linebacker package that also includes T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith. With the Herbig extension now completed, Alex and I address the plausibility and probability of the Steelers trading away one of Watt or Highsmith. We discuss the possible highest draft pick compensation for either player as part of any type of trade and if either of us would consider such a deal. The Steelers now seem poised to sign CB Joey Porter Jr. to a contract extension on the heels of Herbig getting done, so Alex and I speculate what a new deal might ultimately look like for him. We also discuss the possibility of Porter receiving fully guaranteed money beyond 2026 should he indeed wind up signing a contract extension this offseason. This 87-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the recap above, and we make sure to answer a few listener emails we have received to close out this show. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. Are cheer tryouts stressing you out more than your athlete? Tryout season brings pressure, anxiety, comparison, and endless overthinking for both athletes and parents. In this episode, Jason and Gina pull back the curtain on the emotional rollercoaster of callbacks, team placements, level expectations, and the difficult decisions coaches face behind the scenes. This episode also offers reassurance for athletes and parents struggling with rejection, pressure, or uncertainty during one of the most emotional parts of cheer season. Press play to hear an honest, behind-the-scenes conversation that will completely change the way you view cheer tryouts, callbacks, and team placements. Tryout season is done. And whether your kid made the team or didn't, this episode is for you. Derek Boogaard just finished three weeks of evaluations — two teams he coached personally, five or six more he assisted with, and conversations with roughly 250 players. And the same problem kept showing up everywhere. It wasn't skating. It wasn't hands. It wasn't compete level. It was Hockey IQ. Kids who couldn't answer basic questions about strong side, weak side, or what they're supposed to do away from the puck. Kids whose hands were moving faster than their feet. Kids who could score 25 goals at Double A but had no idea how to earn ice time at Triple A. This episode breaks down exactly what coaches are looking for — and it's not the 15 most skilled players. It's the right players. The ones who can play a role, kill penalties, win battles in the d-zone, and connect the dots in real game situations. If your kid didn't make the team they wanted — or if they did and they want to stay there — this is the episode to listen to. You have one year until next tryouts. What you do between now and then is completely up to you. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Werden The Grind hiernach endlich wieder zusammenfinden?
Coach Torrey and Coach Don preview episode 420 of Everything Fastpitch, beginning with “good news, bad news”: UCLA's Megan Grant sets the single-season home run record with 38, but a Big Ten Network replay skipped the record-breaking at-bat in favor of injury and replay footage. They answer a listener question about a $50 travel-ball tryout fee, agreeing the biggest issue is not disclosing it upfront. They break down the newly announced NCAA Division I tournament bracket, noting SEC strength, mid-majors benefiting from SEC teams missing the .500 threshold, and storyline-heavy potential matchups (e.g., Oregon–Oklahoma, Texas–Texas A&M, Alabama–LSU). In cleanup, they encourage players to watch how elite athletes handle mistakes and teamwork, then argue the sport has a shrinking strike zone, citing 1,600 more home runs than last year. They close by questioning in-game iPad video coaching for 12U players, favoring postgame review, and thank sponsors and patrons.Support the show

Tryout season is here and Jamie and Derek are in the thick of it. This episode is a full breakdown of everything happening right now — how real tryout decisions actually get made, what coaches are doing in January that most parents don't see, why the 7-day tryout window is mostly theater, how to evaluate goalies when practice formats don't tell the whole story, what happens in the war room, and why your reputation as a parent matters more than you think. Think Dobbs ended the abortion debate? The numbers say otherwise. We unpack why abortions have risen since the ruling, how chemical pills and telehealth shattered state borders, and why federal inaction leaves courts and clinics chasing the wrong target. From March for Life optics to agency appointments and policy gaps, we take a frank look at what pro-life voters expected, what they got, and how strategy must evolve when access is a mail-order box away. Then we pivot to real hope on the dementia front. A new blood test could flag Alzheimer's earlier, improved delivery methods aim to cross the blood-brain barrier more effectively, and gene therapy advances for neurodegenerative disease hint at a new class of treatments. We break down how inflammation, vaccines like shingles, lithium's neuroprotection, and lifestyle interventions interact, while keeping expectations grounded in the long timelines and hard math of clinical research. We also step into a kitchen-table dilemma: the soaring price of youth sports. Tryout fees, club dues, and travel costs pressure families to choose between community, church, and competition. We question the promises, ask what the end game should be, and explore healthier paths to skill, character, and family life that don't depend on a weekend in a hotel and a four-figure bill.To close, we talk AI's uneasy march into intimacy and end-of-life decisions—from chatbot “partners” to euthanasia pods with algorithmic gatekeepers. We love what AI can do for research and care, but we draw a clear line: technology must not replace moral judgment or human presence. If this conversation challenged or encouraged you, share it with a friend, subscribe for future episodes, and leave a review to help others find the show. What's the one change you think would make the biggest difference right now—policy, culture, or tech?SHOW NOTES:Abortions Rise after Dobbs: After the Supreme Court's 2022 decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization ended the constitutional right to abortion, national abortion numbers were expected to plunge. Instead, they rose. At the center of this counterintuitive trend are abortion pills, telemedicine, and the evil inclination of human beings who seek to usurp God's will with their own. Every now and then, an athlete comes along who changes the game — and Gracie Hernandez is doing exactly that. From Stockton, California to the national spotlight, this Bear Creek High School star is rewriting what's possible for girls in flag football. In this episode of SportsLifeTalk's You Got Next, hosts Head Coach KT and B Jones sit down with one of the fastest-rising names in the sport to talk about faith, perseverance, and the power of believing in yourself when no one else does.Gracie's journey began with a setback — she didn't make her high school volleyball team. But that disappointment sparked something greater. On a whim, she tried out for flag football. “I had three days to prove myself,” she recalls — and that's all it took. Her grit, focus, and raw athleticism transformed her from a rookie into a leader. Today, she's a dual-threat wide receiver and outside linebacker with nine scholarship offers and counting — and she's still only getting started.“As soon as I stepped on that turf, I fell in love with the game.”What makes Gracie special isn't just her stats — it's her spirit. She plays with joy, humility, and deep faith. Off the field, she's known for her bright energy, love for her Polynesian roots, and commitment to giving her all to God.Her goal? To become a traveling ER nurse while playing collegiate flag football — and one day, represent Team USA at the 2028 Olympics.“I don't just want to stack offers — I want to find a home.”Whether she's leading Bear Creek High or repping Turf Club Elite 707, Gracie's leadership shines through. She credits her success to her family, teammates, and coaches who saw her potential before she did.Her message to young athletes: “Don't give up after one no — because your yes might change your life.”When she's not catching touchdowns or making defensive stops, Gracie is just as dynamic off the field. She loves gardening, Polynesian dance, spending time with family, and using her platform to inspire others through faith and positivity.“Flag football gave me confidence — but faith gave me peace.”As she prepares for her next chapter — college, competition, and chasing gold with Team USA — Gracie remains grounded and grateful. She's proof that when passion meets purpose, extraordinary things happen.
September 24, 2025 - Season 16, Episode 28 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Wednesday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right to talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers bringing in free agent OL Nate Herbig in for a tryout on Tuesday. We go on to discuss the possibility of him being signed this week on the heels of the team losing OL Max Scharping to a knee injury last week. The Steelers' injury report for Week 4 looks about the same as last week's as we head into Wednesday's practice so we discuss whether CB Joey Porter Jr. and S DeShon Elliott might be able to return for the team's Sunday game in Dublin, Ireland against the Minnesota Vikings, Steelers HC Mike Tomlin held his weekly press conference on Tuesday and as usual, Alex and I recap the main talking points that came out of that session. We discuss a few very curious answers that Tomlin gave to questions on Tuesday. Should he really be blaming the lack of a consistent running game on the team's defense? We talk that answer out and go over what Tomlin had to say about the overall direction of the Steelers' offense through three games. Tomlin talked about the team's travel preparation to Ireland on this week on Tuesday, so we discuss that topic and a few other notable things that he had to say during his weekly press conference. With the All-22 tape from the Week 3 game against the New England Patriots now fully digested, Alex and I both deliver our additional thoughts from the Steelers' Sunday road win when it comes to the offense, defense, and special teams. We take a hard look at the Steelers' running game woes from Week 3 and the defense s ability to not get off the field on third and fourth downs in that contest. Alex and I discuss several positive performances from Week 3, and we also talk some about the offense's usage of 12 personnel through the first three games of the 2025 regular season. Later in the show, Alex and I discuss the New York Giants benching QB Russell Wilson this week and how that act impacts the Steelers when it comes to possible compensatory draft picks for 2026. This 104-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted, and we close things by answering a few emails that we recently received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. Is your athlete gearing up for tryouts… and you're secretly more stressed than she is?You're not alone. Tryout week can bring all the nerves, for athletes and their moms. But how do you actually support her without adding pressure, overstepping, or spiraling right alongside her?In this episode, we're breaking down exactly how to prepare your athlete (and yourself) for tryouts – mentally, emotionally, and practically. Here's what this episode covers: What parents need to check in on before tryouts even start. How to shift the focus from “making the team” to “showing up strong”.A coach's honest perspective on what actually stands out at tryouts.Simple ways to help your athlete prep without hovering. What to say (and what not to say) during the tryout season. How to boost her confidence outside of her sport.Key mental skills athletes need to handle nerves, bounce back from mistakes, and perform under pressure. What to do if she doesn't make the team and how to turn disappointment into growth.Tryouts don't have to break her or you. Listen in and get the tools to show up steady, supportive, and strong... no matter the outcome.Episode Highlights: [00:00:00] Tryout Season = High Stress. Tryouts bring a wave of stress for athletes, coaches, and especially parents. It's completely normal to feel anxious, but there are ways to handle it well.[00:01:47] Start with the Parent. Before helping an athlete, parents should check in with themselves. Acknowledging personal stress and avoiding projection helps create a calmer environment.[00:03:00] Focus on Her Goals. Instead of assuming what she wants, ask the athlete what her goals are for tryouts. Shifting the focus to effort and pride helps relieve outcome pressure.[00:05:03] When the Goal Feels Out of Reach. If the athlete sets a big goal, parents can gently steer the conversation toward effort and backup plans, without crushing her confidence.[00:06:49] Watch the Words. Phrases like “You better make the team” only add pressure. Encouragement should stay focused on effort, attitude, and what's in her control.[00:07:41] Mental Game is the Real Game. Tryouts are mentally demanding. Without tools to manage nerves and recover from mistakes, even skilled athletes can struggle.[00:08:43] Visualize the Outcome. Positive visualization, seeing success before it happens, helps athletes shift from anxious anticipation to confident execution.[00:09:00] Anchor in Affirmations. Simple self-talk like “I'm ready” or “I belong here” gives athletes something to lean on in high-pressure moments.[00:10:23] Reset Fast With a Snapback Routine. A go-to reset routine helps athletes move on from mistakes quickly, one of the most valuable tools in competitive sports.[00:12:28] Real Success is in Adaptability. The biggest win from tryouts? Learning to adapt, stay grounded, and keep going no matter what the outcome says.Next Steps:Join our FREE Training for Sports Moms - How to Strengthen Your Athlete Daughter's Mental Game so She Believes in Herself as Much as You DoVisit our podcast website for more great episodesThank you in advance for joining us on our mission and leaving a rating and review on Apple Podcasts.Register here for the Summer Confidence Series to grab the free PDF with scripts, strategies, and a recap of the episodes all in one place!
