In this week's episode of The Learning Curve, co-hosts Prof. Albert Cheng of the University of Arkansas and Alisha Searcy of the Center for Strong Public Schools speak with Andrew Hadfield, Emeritus Professor of English at the University of Sussex and British Academy Fellow, about the life, works, and legacy of the great poet Edmund Spenser. Prof. Hadfield explains how Edmund Spenser's uncertain family background and humanist education at Merchant Taylors' School and Cambridge, grounded in Virgil, Ovid, Petrarch, and Chaucer, shaped his literary imagination within Elizabethan England. He situates Spenser amid the many political and religious tensions of Queen Elizabeth I's reign, and traces Spenser's rise through The Shepheardes Calender and patronage under the 4th Earl of Leicester, Robert Sidney. Then, Prof. Hadfield turns to The Faerie Queene, its epic allegorical knights, virtues, and the Spenserian stanza, all of which widely influenced British literature and ultimately the English language across the globe. He addresses Spenser's controversial Irish writings and reflects on his enduring reputation as a foundational “poet's poet.” Prof. Hadfield closes the interview with a reading from The Faerie Queene.

Retired astronaut and novelist Chris Hadfield joins co-hosts Whitney Terrell and V.V. Ganeshananthan to discuss space exploration, geopolitics, and his new book, Final Orbit. Hadfield recalls watching the Apollo 11 Moon Landing as a child and considers how these historic missions capture public imagination. The impact of the Heinz Wattie's restructure won't be felt by growers straight away. The company plans to shut three manufacturing facilitates in Auckland, Christchurch, and Dunedin, and packing operations in Hastings. It's because of a planned move away from selling frozen vegetables, Gregg's Coffee, and several dips, which means 350 jobs are on the line. Process Vegetables New Zealand Chair David Hadfield told Ryan Bridge the current year's contracts have been locked in. He says harvests are either finished, halfway through, or about to start, so it will only effect growers next season. LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Read the full article on Oncology Data Advisor: https://oncdata.com/oncology-unfiltered-financial-toxicity In this episode of Oncology Unfiltered, Melissa Cutrona, Co-Founder and General Manager of i3 Health and Oncology Data Advisor, and Matthew Hadfield, DO, Oncology Data Advisor Editor in Chief, explore how financial and geographic toxicities in oncology are, in reality, clinical toxicities. If a patient can't afford to fill the prescription, is it really a treatment option? They discuss what financial toxicity truly means—far beyond drug prices—covering travel, parking, time off work, and the hidden costs of tests and therapies. Dr. Hadfield shares real-world examples of patients turning down innovative treatments and clinical trials because they can't afford the logistical burden, and explains how geography and income create a two-tiered system of cancer care. The conversation examines how financial and geographic barriers distort shared decision making, limit participation in clinical trials, and skew our understanding of real-world efficacy. They also highlight the role of institutions, policymakers, and pharma in improving access, and why oncologists must reconsider ordering patterns, testing habits, and how they counsel patients about the full “cost” of care. Thank you for watching Oncology Unfiltered. As promised, this is a fully functioning BIG BROTHER podcast now and Donny Hadfield, the Big Brother Historian, is walking us down memory lane of the problematic 2006's where the R-word was casually said on TV and production played Indian Snake Charmer flutes behind an Iraqi man praying - It's the first 3 episodes of Big Brother 6!
Chris Hadfield is the astronaut who turned the void of space into his stage. A farm kid from rural Canada who climbed his way into the stratosphere, first as a fighter pilot, then as a test pilot, and eventually as commander of the International Space Station. Hadfield has lived a life that hovers somewhere between science fiction and sheer nerve. He's flown more than seventy types of aircraft, stared down mechanical failures mid-flight, even blacked out in the cockpit and somehow lived to tell the tale. And then came the moment that made him a legend: drifting through the ISS with a guitar in hand, recording a zero-gravity cover of David Bowie's Space Oddity (the first music video ever filmed in space.) It was haunting, poetic, and a little bit absurd, exactly like Hadfield himself. His newest book, Final Orbit a high-tension space thriller and the third instalment in his Apollo Murders series has just launched into the world and is available everywhere.Host: Dan SchreiberGuest: Chris Hadfield Senior Producer: Ben TullohProduction Support: Cassie MerrittHead of Factual Podcasts: Al Riddel

Chris Hadfield has made three trips to space, observed Earth from afar, spacewalked, flown fighter jets, made music and become a novelist. Here he explores ideas he hasn't articulated before and takes us into parts of the universe most of us will never experience for ourselves. Hadfield introduces his latest book, Final Orbit, explains how he became an astronaut, thrillingly reveals what our planet looks like from space, describes what it's like heading towards the moon in a rocket, talks about the precariousness of spacewalks, reflects on what space travel has taught him about himself and humanity, and spells out his attitude to risk.
