Join David Lee Corbo (The Raven) and Top Lobsta on Nephilim Death Squad with special guest Jeff Finup of Badgerland Legends for the full story of the White Lady of Champion — Wisconsin's only Vatican-approved Marian apparition. In 1859, young Belgian immigrant Adele Brise encountered the dazzling Queen of Heaven standing between a maple and hemlock tree near her family's farm in Champion, Wisconsin. The Lady identified herself as the Queen of Heaven who prays for the conversion of sinners, instructed Adele to teach the children the catechism, and warned of punishment if they did not repent. What followed was the building of a chapel and school that miraculously survived the Peshtigo Fire of October 8, 1871 — America's deadliest wildfire that killed 1,200–2,500 people and burned 1.2 million acres. The shrine stood untouched while flames stopped at the fence line — a miracle witnessed by locals who fled there and prayed the rosary around a statue of Mary.Jeff Finup breaks down the three apparitions, Father Verhof's guidance, the Catholic defense of Mary as Queen of Heaven (Revelation 12 & Luke 1:28), the Assumption, and how it contrasts with the “Queen of Heaven” condemned in Jeremiah. He also compares it to Guadalupe, Lourdes, and Fatima. The conversation then dives deep into Wisconsin cryptids: the Beast of Bray Road Dogman legend, Linda Godfrey's research, the 1930s Shackleman night watchman encounter at a Catholic convent where the upright canine uttered “Gadara” on an Indian burial mound, connections to Bigfoot, skinwalkers, orbs, trail cam anomalies, and the quantum/woo side of the phenomenon.Bonus topics include CE-5 contact, Project Sanguine ELF waves in Wisconsin's Northwoods, and the Puharich Madison, Wisconsin connection.A must-watch for fans of Marian apparitions, Peshtigo Fire history, Wisconsin Dogman, Beast of Bray Road, and true paranormal folklore from the Badger State.Support Nephilim Death Squad on Patreon for early episodes, ad-free listening & VIP live events → patreon.com/nephilimdeathsquadGrab tickets & merch at toplobsta.com Follow guest Jeff Finup / Badgerland Legends on Instagram & Facebook for more Wisconsin monsters, myths, legends, cryptids & forgotten history.Subscribe, like, comment “White Lady” or “Dogman” below, and hit the bell for more Nephilim Death Squad episodes!00:00 - Intro & Welcome to Nephilim Death Squad02:45 - Patreon Reminder, VIP Tickets, & General Admission Info05:20 - Introducing Jeff Finup of Badgerland Legends08:10 - Raven Synchronicity Story (Jeff's Wife Spots Raven)11:30 - The White Lady of Champion Story Begins – 1859 Belgian Community15:40 - First Apparition: Lady in White Between Maple & Hemlock Trees20:05 - Second & Third Apparitions on the Way to Mass25:50 - Queen of Heaven Message: “I Am the Queen of Heaven Who Prays for Sinners”29:15 - Prank Slide & Regulus/Sphinx Laugh Moment32:40 - Adele's Instructions: Teach Catechism & Build the Chapel37:20 - Peshtigo Fire 1871 – America's Deadliest Wildfire (1.2 Million Acres)44:10 - Miracle at the Shrine: Only Chapel & School Spared49:30 - 2010 Vatican Approval – Only Recognized U.S. Marian Apparition53:45 - Queen of Heaven Debate: Jeremiah vs. Revelation 12 & Catholic Defense59:20 - Assumption of Mary, Dormition & Uncorrupted Saints1:05:10 - Novena to St. Therese Rose Miracle – Jeff's Mom's Personal Story1:10:40 - Hail Mary Prayer Discussion & Protestant Concerns1:16:55 - Transition to Wisconsin Cryptids: Beast of Bray Road & Dogman Origins1:21:30 - 1930s Shackleman Convent Encounter – “Gadara” on Indian Mound1:27:45 - Modern Dogman Sightings, Trail Cam Orbs & Carcass Disappearances1:32:20 - Bigfoot & Dogman Connection, Woo/Quantum Phenomenon & Skinwalkers1:36:10 - CE-5 Panel Tease, Project Sanguine ELF Waves & Puharich Wisconsin Link1:38:20 - Closing Remarks, Socials & Outro Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/nephilim-death-squad--6389018/support.☠️ Nephilim Death Squad — New episodes 5x/week.Join our Patreon for early access, bonus shows & the private Telegram hive.Subscribe on YouTube & Rumble, follow @NephilimDSquad on X/Instagram, grab merch at toplobsta.com. On the inside, turkey vultures' intense stomach acids can kill the microbes that cause botulism, anthrax, cholera, tuberculosis, salmonella, and rabies. As of March 27, I still haven't seen a turkey vulture in the Northwoods, but soon they'll be showing up on the wind and helping us out with a little spring cleaning!

Earth Angel hears from two satisfied customers, "Lars," whose Earth Angel Bird Identification Binoculars saved his life, and Juliet Montague, who settled an argument with her husband thanks to these amazing optics. For one month, I launched an hour-long program, "Wake Robin," with interviews, music, silly ads, and lots of fun stuff about birds. But I couldn't get anyone at KUMD interested in helping with production. Tim Winker, "the VOICE of the North Woods" and one of KUMD's most creative volunteers, helped me each week, running the board and making sure everything went okay, but without sponsors, I couldn't pay anyone (much less myself), and it took about 60 hours each week for me to get the pre-recorded segments written and produced. So it didn't last. This was one of the segments on that program. Tim Winker introduced the piece, Karen Keenan played Earth Angel, Russ Erickson played Lars, and Stephanie Hemphill played Juliet Montague.

Our first storyteller is Rad Wilkins, who as a wildlife biologist embraced the title of “poop ologist” and carried a pungent, fermented concoction called “the brew” into the backcountry to entice grizzly bears. When the love of his life came to visit his remote camp, he had to quickly learn the true rules of bear country before a romantic proposal turned into a terrifying, close encounter in a story that he calls “Wild Proposals”. Rad Watkins is a lifelong nature lover and conservationist based in Missoula, Montana. He currently serves as Executive Director of the Missoula Conservation District, where he helps lead efforts to protect local streams, wildlife, and working lands. His career has taken him from the old-growth forests of the Pacific Northwest studying endangered seabirds, to Glacier National Park collecting grizzly bear DNA, to the Northwoods of Wisconsin tracking wolves and rehabbing bald eagles. Rad also loves personal development, and he's a certified life coach who does some leadership speaking and training. At home, he, his wife Gretchen, and their kids, Lena and Norris, enjoy doing what Montanans do best: floating rivers, skiing, hiking, and spending time outdoors with their dogs and horses. You can find Rad on Instagram, Facebook and YouTube. In our next story, Bridget Feerick flies thousands of miles to Peru and connects with a mysterious, motorcycling solo traveler. With a language barrier, a gut feeling, and a wild invitation to ride with him to Canada, she must decide if taking a leap of faith is worth the risk of a true-life adventure. Bridget calls her story “My Gut Says WHAT!?…and it was Awesome!” Thanks for listening. Bridget Feerick started her journey on this planet being born and raised in Milwaukee, WI. She traveled the world before making her home in Missoula, Montana and has continued to explore this country and the world beyond. Her passion for the outdoors is matched by a deep commitment to community engagement and social justice. Bridget holds people in transitions using her intuitive powers as an organizer, cleaner, birth/postpartum/death doula, yoga instructor, herbalist, reiki and sound healing practitioner, and so on and so forth. Oh, and she likes to get weird whether it’s through her performance art pieces or just trying to be free in a world with too many boxes. She hopes to empower and inspire as many people as she can to tap into their own intuitive powers. Trying to escape the dark Missoula winter, a staycation house-sitting gig promises a hot tub and mountain views for Marc Moss, and instead, delivers freezing temperatures and the demanding care of a dog, a cat, and eleven chickens. What starts as a simple favor quickly turns into a crisis when a frantic call from Chile reveals an unfortunate fire and a scramble to rehouse the traumatized poultry. Marc calls his story “The Girls”. Marc Moss founded Tell Us Something in 2011 and lives with his life partner, Joyce, and their perpetual kitten, Ziggy on Missoula's historic Northside. While trekking deep into the Bob Marshall Wilderness to photograph the monumental Chinese Wall, Brian Christianson finally slows down to appreciate the remote mountain solitude with his partner. When a tiny movement catches their eye, they hold their breath for what could be the wildlife encounter of a lifetime. Brian calls his story “Ridge Lessons”. Brian Christianson's love for mountains began on the pages of books while growing up in Southern Minnesota. A family trip to Colorado at age 10 confirmed the future: mountains or bust. He proceeded to study photography and geography at the University of Colorado before moving to Montana in 2008. Brian works as a nature photographer with a curiosity for wilderness in Western Montana. He shares a life with his wife Linds and cat Roo.

A Times story reporting that college students in a writing course do better when they go offline for a month makes perfect sense to me, same as if you say a writer does better at a laptop in the public library than shnockered on a sailboat in a storm, but the idea of persuading students to go offline strikes me as quixotic, like Amish evangelism or banning the use of chairs. The internet is here and we're all caught up in it.l was in my 50s when the World Wide Web came in. Its advent was not a big event to me; I was still working on a manual Underwood typewriter. I have a clearer memory of seeing Albert Woolson, the last living Civil War veteran, in a parade in downtown Minneapolis. I remember my uncle Jim farming with horses and Fibber McGee and Molly on the radio. And I remember boredom, which has mostly disappeared in America except perhaps among lighthouse keepers or attendants in parking ramps or felons in solitary confinement. And maybe imprisonment offline would be considered cruel and inhumane in a court of law.Growing up pre-Google in a small Midwestern town among taciturn people, I experienced boredom intensely and it led to reading and in due course to writing. I took up haiku:Three blackbirds shriekingAs my old black cat calmlySquats in the sandpile. This was enough to amuse me back then. And because I could write a 17-syllable haiku and had good handwriting and spoke in complete sentences, I was considered gifted.I considered becoming a poet but I wanted to earn money and not live up over my parents' garage so I went into public radio where, thank goodness, the audience was made up of reference librarians, caregivers, birdwatchers, organic gardeners, people who were spiritual but not religious, people who enjoyed the enigmatic more than actual entertainment. I shouldn't brag but I can be more enigmatic than anyone I know.I got a reputation as an artistic storyteller, which, believe me, there is no such thing — storytelling is not an art, it's a craft, like plumbing, and either the water comes out of the tap or it doesn't. But back in the Boring Eighties, enigma was more appreciated. And now, there's the smartphone offering endless entertainment, videos, YouTube, GPS telling you exactly where on Earth you are and how far to the nearest comedy club, yoga studio, liquor store and not just any old liquor store but one that offers designer beer with floral notes of marigolds sprinkled with saffron playing off earthy vanilla with rustic bitterness in the finish. We didn't have that back in my time, just cold beer.I try to explain this to young people, the fact that we didn't have soft butter then, butter aerated to make it spreadable, just little hard bricks of butter that when you tried to spread it on toast, you tore the toast apart, or else you scraped shavings of butter off and by the time the toast was buttered it was cold.Back in the day, before “google” became a verb, we had to memorize information, it wasn't readily available, such as verb tenses or state capitals or the nine planets — My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Nine Pizzas — Mercury Venus Earth Mars Jupiter Saturn Uranus Neptune Pluto — and a boy named Ralph Krause liked to ask Mr. Jensen our science teacher, How big is Uranus? Is there life on Uranus? It was a high point of science class, in which high points were few and far between.I grew up under the heavy burden of Boy Scouts, which I believe has mostly disappeared, done in by social media. We had cruel Scoutmasters who took us winter camping in the North Woods, believing adversity stimulates intelligence. I'm not so sure. I associate intelligence with staying warm.I look at politics, the regressive MAGA right (working hard to horrify the genteel left), which has elected nihilists in golf pants who exercise their whimsical powers to serve 3% of the people 75% of the time, and it's easy to despair but if you go offline and wander through crowds of Christmas shoppers, you sense the spirit of kindness and gaiety of our people.Old men dozing off at the switch need to be shoveled into the Home for the Hopeless and let the young and conscientious come in to repair the damage. I hope it happens in my lifetime. This is a public episode. If you'd like to discuss this with other subscribers or get access to bonus episodes, visit garrisonkeillor.substack.com/subscribe
