My unc, my OG, and one of my mentors in this industry passed away in Texas after battling cancer. He was someone who believed in me early on, supported what I was building with the podcast, and always shared wisdom about hunting, life, and the outdoors. Because of that, I wanted to honor him by rerunning the podcast episode we recorded together. This conversation meant a lot to me then, and it means even more now. Composer, songwriter, and producer Alex Seaver (aka Mako) has created a unique niche for himself in the entertainment industry. He has released two best-selling albums; performed at Coachella, Lollapalooza, and EDC; and collaborated with the likes of Linkin Park, Marcus King, Sting, Pusha-T, Avicii, Madison Beer, and Alan Walker. A classically-trained musician, Seaver earned a full scholarship to Juilliard. Upon graduation, he relocated to Los Angeles to pursue a career in film music. Alex has established himself as a songwriter and composer for Riot Games' League of Legends, beginning in 2017. His first track, “Legends Never Die” (performed by Against the Current), has earned over 400 million streams on Spotify alone, while his role expanded with both seasons of Netflix's League of Legends-based animated series, Arcane (2021, 2024). In addition to scoring the hit show with Alexander Temple, Alex co-wrote songs for the soundtrack, alongside Linkin Park, Marcus King, Pusha-T, Sting, Woodkid, Bea Miller, PVRIS, and others. Composer, songwriter, and producer Alex Seaver (aka Mako) has created a unique niche for himself in the entertainment industry. He has released two best-selling albums; performed at Coachella, Lollapalooza, and EDC; and collaborated with the likes of Sting, Pusha-T, Avicii, Madison Beer, and Alan Walker. A classically-trained musician, Seaver earned a full scholarship to Juilliard. Upon graduation, he relocated to Los Angeles to pursue a career in film music. Alex has established himself as a songwriter and composer for Riot Games' League of Legends, beginning in 2017. His first track, “Legends Never Die” (performed by Against the Current), has earned over 400 million streams on Spotify alone, while his role expanded with Netflix's League of Legends-based animated series, Arcane (2021). Many things make legends who they are. It seems the commonality is the ability to perform at a very high level over an extended period of time. Looking at Fischer Black, Peter Carr, Rick Rubin, George Box, Gilbert Strang, and John Nash it is interesting to see so many difference between them yet they have all had significant contributions to their area of expertise. Soft skills seem to play some part of this title of being a legend. There are many people who made one contribution but seem to have faded and forgotten.For quants it seems one must contribute academic ideas as well as have some sort of unique difference that helps others. Peter Carr's legacy seems to be amplified by his generosity of time and ability to teach. I would argue the success of making money contributes very little to being a quant.
