The Don’t Mention the Fußball Podcast - all about Hertha in English. We dabble. We. Digress. A. Lot. The aim in the project is to share our love of and sometimes frustration with Hertha BSC. With the spoken word in particular, can prove difficult for foreign nationals to keep up with the existing podcasts in German. We are making these podcasts and corresponding website in English to help keep people who do not speak German well up to date and involved with our club.

After another long break the old gang have finally met up again in Berlin to chew over recent events and spit out totally unrelated facts. We talk about recent club politics including Windhorst but also the new club President Kay Bernstein. We also briefly talk about team comings and goings as well as the game against Hoffenheim on the weekend. To wrap up with discuss Hertha's “sustainability theme” for this game promoting the idea of a carbon neutral Berlin by 2030. Linked to this we mention Simon's adventures on the sustainable cycle ride to the stadium in the rain. Lastly we talk about possible development of a Hertha Women's team that will be proposed at the next members meeting.
Patrick, Simon and Markus meet to wonder at the survival of Hertha in the top flight at the end of the 2021/22 season
A quick ramble on the day after Christmas about the season so far with the normal distractions
Patrick and Jan discuss the last two losses (boo) and avoid talking about a certain "club" from Leipzig. Patrick just finished the Berlin Marathon (yay) and Jan is lazy as always. Enjoy. And please, more crowd participation for the next one! See our bios on our socials to participate via speakpipe... hahohe!
We discuss the last two wins (!) in our first in-person recording since spring 2020.
We have to talk about the last two losses, a rather botched sadline day and how we think Hertha is gonna fare with the transfers that DID happen.
Jan returns to join Patrick and Simon to try and make sense of confusing times. Are we hopeful for the future?
Jan returns to the podcast and we chew the fat about being Hertha fans in a pandemic. We also have guest appearances from Maria and Inis. Maria tells us her Hertha story and how she has been affected by the pandemic. Inis answers some questions about the new stadium project. Minutes after the original publication of this podcast it came to light the Hertha team have been quarantined following Covid infections. Irony abounds.
Patrick, Simon and Markus are joined by Nick Gerum from Wisconsin to talk about Hertha's recent tribulations. Also, vandalism terminology, the "joys" of relegation, haute cuisine, and listener questions meant for another podcast (No offense, guys!). Enjoy another international effort as Patrick plays host again, Maria and Ed play return guests, and Selecta plays newcomer! It’s time for Quiz #3! Shirt sponsors, World Cup finals, lucky numbers, fun for everyone!
This episode is hosted by Patrick who has prepared an end of season quiz for your entertainment. Taking part is Jan and Maria from Berlin together with Ed from the US. Simon is there as well but he didn't really do the quiz as he knows nothing! Have a pen and paper ready as you listen and test your footballing knowledge as see what your score will be. At the end we briefly talk about the new Hertha shirts for the 2020/21 season and how the new season may start.
Simon, Patrick and Markus sum up the last few games of what even by Hertha standards has been a weird year. We also talk about the clubs finances and new investments. We say goodbye to some players leaving as well as new arrivals and what we think Hertha need in terms of additions. We mention the new association with the women's team Turbine Potsdam with some unusual fashion suggestions for Markus. Pretty random as usual.
The Big Bruno Club is here to stay. We discuss the action that has unfolded as the Bruno Train has choo-chooed from great performance to great performance. Fizzy drinks, Bratwürste from Köpenick and Puppenkiste have been served. What a time to be alive. Simon, Patrick and Markus meet after the first Ghost game against Hoffenheim but before the ghost derby against Union. Random diversions crop up but that’s nothing new. Simon’s axe makes an appearance which is particularly random in an audio recording. Much discussion about the merits of genital protection also features following Rune Jarstein’s close encounter during the 0:3 victory against Hoffenheim. Enjoy
In the latest lockdown Covid-19 episode, Patrick and Jan are joined by prolific guest Markus and Maria from Berlin and Bryan from Texas join the Canadian quizmaster for some tough trivia. Jan returns to the podcast after a break on baby duty to discuss the latest catastrophes from our beloved Old Lady. We try valiantly not to talk about losses to Hoffenheim, Union Berlin and a fizzy drink company together with the narrowest possible win against Dresden in the cup. In this episode we dabble in some actual facts which is a massive departure from our normal waffling and ranting. We start off with Simon talking to himself about the game against Dusseldorf for a while. ( He talks to himself a lot). We then move on the a section recorded earlier in the week about Blau-Weisses Stadion a fan based campaign group working with all parties to help bring about a successful new stadium project for Hertha that will work for us - the fans. Hopefully you will find it interesting. Ha Ho He
Simon is joined by Team Canada in the form of Patrick and Cynth to represent Hertha North America. We discuss the games against Paderborn and Koln as well as the merits of running around Berlin without any clothes on. (Not us. Even Berlin is not ready for that)
Simon and Patrick are joined by Cynthia in this celebration of defensive prowess. We discuss the home game against Wolfsburg and away in Gelsenkirchen as well as the normal random stuff. We also give few shoutouts to friends out in the real world.
Simónir and Patrick blow away cobwebs and scrape of rust at the start of the 2019/20 season. All planning went out the window - it had been a long day . . . excuses excuses. My bad.
While Jan is away at the Hertha's members meeting collecting valuable intel. Simon record with Patrick, Cynthia and Veronica. They ramble on about Hertha vs Augsburg and Leverkusen as well as the end of season fan march in Berlin.
In our latest episode, Patrick and Simon get into some liquor and all kinds of shenanigans in spite of the relatively good results (4 points from the last two games).
