Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of August 22, 2025. The highest-grossing animated film of all time, "Ne Zha II," comes to local theaters from China and is dubbed into English for the first time. It's epic and looks great, but patience is required. If you want to see beautiful people roughing it, "Eden" from director Ron Howard may be more your thing. Of local interest, "The Streak" is a must-watch for sports fans as this new documentary in theaters explores the 1987 Salt Lake Trappers and their historic 29-game winning streak 38 years ago. And finally, a young adult romance movie on streaming for Gen Z called "The Map That Leads To You" is a gorgeously shot movie about star-crossed lovers on Amazon Prime Video. The brains behind Fan Effect are connoisseurs of categories surpassing nerdy, with a goal to publish a weekly "What to Watch on the Weekend" minisode taken from KSL-TV's Friday segment, and two deep-dives a month on shows, creative works, artists, local events, and other fandom topics. Based in the beautiful beehive state, Fan Effect celebrates Utah's unique fan culture as it has been declared The Nerdiest State in America by TIME, and is hosted by KSL Movie Show's Andy Farnsworth and KSL Podcasts' KellieAnn Halvorsen. Listen regularly on your favorite platform, at kslnewsradio.com, or on the KSLNewsRadio App. Join the conversation on Facebook @FanEffectShow, or Instagram @FanEffectShow. Fan Effect is sponsored by Megaplex Theatres, Utah's premier movie entertainment company.

Welcome to Episode 100 of Tablesetters! Devin and Steve are back for a milestone edition of the show, covering all things baseball as the 2025 season hits its stretch run. We open with Commissioner Rob Manfred's bold comments during the Little League Classic broadcast, where he floated the possibility of realignment if Major League Baseball expands to 32 teams. Nashville, Salt Lake City, and Portland headline the list of suitors, but the bigger question is structural : could MLB really abandon the American and National Leagues in favor of East and West conferences? We dig into what that vision would mean for rivalries, travel, TV money, and October itself. From there, we turn to Los Angeles, where the Dodgers swept the Padres in a pivotal series that flipped the NL West standings. Entering the weekend a game behind, the Dodgers turned it into a two-game lead by Sunday, while securing the season tiebreaker that could decide the division. Freeman, Betts, and rookie Andy Pages carried the bats, Glasnow and the bullpen delivered on the mound, and L.A. reminded everyone why they've owned this rivalry for years. The Little League Classic brought baseball back to its roots in Williamsport, and the Mets gave it a storybook moment. Mark Vientos slid down the Lamade Field hill with kids before blasting a three-run homer under the lights, his 12th of the year, sparking a win over the Mariners. With Francisco Lindor and Francisco Álvarez leading the offense, New York finally strung together back-to-back wins for the first time in weeks. In Philadelphia, the headlines are colliding: Zack Wheeler's blood clot diagnosis deals a massive blow to the Phillies' rotation, Aaron Nola's shaky return raises questions about whether he can step into the ace role, and Alec Bohm's bat gave the lineup a needed spark. What does it mean for their World Series hopes? It was also a week defined by young talent. Nolan McLean debuted for the Mets with eight strikeouts and a highlight-reel defensive play, Samuel Basallo and Dylan Beavers joined the Orioles' endless pipeline, and top prospect Konnor Griffin jumped to Double-A. We break down what these moves mean for contenders and rebuilders alike. The Brewers' 14-game winning streak came to an end, but their run underscored everything that makes them dangerous heading into October: depth, resilience, and a chemistry that's built for a pennant chase. Meanwhile, questions swirl in Arizona as Ketel Marte's future comes under scrutiny despite another All-Star caliber season, while Geraldo Perdomo steps in as both teammate and defender. And in Houston, the Astros await the return of Yordan Álvarez, whose rehab assignment comes just as the division lead shrinks to a single game. And of course, we'll check in on the league's hottest and coldest bats as the playoff picture sharpens.

The Philadelphia Union's 16-game unbeaten streak against the New York Red Bulls finally came to an end with a 1-0 loss. In a match that saw limited opportunities for both sides, Bruno Damiani had a penalty saved, and Dylan Nealis scored his first career MLS goal to give the Red Bulls the victory. Todd is joined by José Nuñez to discuss the latest Union news, including the Union finalizing a deal to send Olivier Semmle on loan to North Carolina FC of the USL Championship. Todd and José also break down the 1-0 loss, covering topics such as Andre Blake's hamstring injury that forced an early substitution, rotation in the Union squad, and Bruno Damiani's penalty miss. Todd also discusses Blunder of the Week, which goes to New York Red Bulls mascot "Redd" for interrupting Bradley Carnell's press conference. In 1987, the Salt Lake Trappers were an unaffiliated rookie league team at the very bottom of the ranks. By the end of their season, they had earned a place in the National Baseball Hall of Fame for the longest winning streak in the sport's history. 38 years later, that record is still unbroken.

Felicia and François are back after a rollercoaster stretch for the Liberty — from snapping a four-game skid with an inspiring three-game winning streak, to a frustrating home loss against the Minnesota Lynx that brought some old issues back to the surface. They break down: Sabrina Ionescu's MVP-caliber tear — dominating vs. Connecticut with 36 points while showing she's more than just a shooter, plus her fiery leadership sparking the team. Emma Meesseman's seamless impact — instant chemistry, smart playmaking, and how her presence raises the Liberty's ceiling. Positives in the Lynx loss — bench energy, the JJ–Emma connection, and a good first half. Negatives that cost them — 20 turnovers, stagnation, and struggles to stay together under pressure. What Natasha Cloud, Sabrina Ionescu, Marine Johannès, and Emma Meesseman said about toughness, execution, and discipline. Injury update on Breanna Stewart — and how the Liberty are balancing urgency with health.

The Royals got a great win in Boston on Wednesday night, incredibly, it's their 10th straight win in the final game of a series. The whole thing was caught on film as a popular CBS television crime drama was filming at Fenway for an episode this fall. The NFL coughing up the NFL Network for 10% equity in ESPN is one of the great deals of all time. The NFL Network lost a lot of money over the years and now they have their best products on a bigger platform to make even more money. It's controversial to say the least. Patrick Mahomes says he has to be better this year for the Chiefs to succeed and I agree. The real question is how serious he is about it. Is this training camp lip service or does Mahomes really think he has to get better?
