In this episode we speak with three runners from Team Abbott — a community of runners who have faced serious health challenges but didn't let those challenges define them! [powerpress] About Our Guests Elizabeth Pehota (Boston, MA): Three days out from running the 2022 Berlin Marathon, Elizabeth Pehota experienced a feeling of pins and needles in her hands, feet and thighs, and an unnatural resistance while running. Soon after, she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), a chronic, unpredictable disease of the central nervous system. As someone who shares her daily life on social media, Elizabeth, @healthy_cheers on Instagram, only recently opened up about her diagnosis, but has already formed relationships with other MS patients around the world. Elizabeth is an Abbott World Marathon Major Six Star Finisher and received her seventh star in Sydney. Ed Barnes (Douglas, MA): Ed was born with a congenital heart condition and at age 15 he started to experience frequent dizziness - to the point of nearly passing out - leading him to undergo open heart surgery to receive an Abbott artificial aortic heart valve. This year, after completing the Boston Marathon, Ed became the first person with an artificial heart valve to finish all seven Abbott World Marathon Majors. Mary Tawney Suarez (Fullerton, CA): Just before the pandemic, Mary started experiencing seizures and was diagnosed with Epilepsy and a brain cyst. One year later, she started experiencing back pain and numbness in her legs, which was revealed to be the degeneration of the cerebral and lower part of her spine. Despite these obstacles, Mary has continued running, and just finished the Berlin Marathon. [box] Links Mentioned in This Episode Run Coaching. Work with an expert MTA running Coach. This week we bring all of it together—training breakthroughs, fandom debates, and the power of community—with NYT bestselling author AJ Wolfe, the voice behind Disney Food Blog and AllEars. We dig into her book Disney Adults asking why the label sparks so much heat online, and how subcultures like DisneyBounding, Dapper Days, and RunDisney become places people actually live. AJ doesn't sugarcoat it: the same fans who keep the parks humming can be a pain for the company—and each other—yet they're also the first to show up with support, charity dollars, and creative traditions that make the magic feel personal. We keep it real on training, too. Greg crushes his magic half mile and stares down faster paces; Alysha returns stronger after injury thanks to strength and consistency; and Bob talks honestly about listening to your body, walking long runs, and knowing the difference between “owie” and injury. Our Wine & Dine merch take is practical—smart layers beat closet clutter—and AJ drops festival strategy: weekday mornings, skip the worst lines, and aim for raclette, poutine, and solid plant-based picks. We also spotlight the Parkinson's Foundation: how to grab charity bibs, the perks you get, and fundraising tactics that actually work (start early, share your why, leverage matching gifts, and thank like you mean it).The race report brings the color: a hot Berlin Marathon with slick water stops, booming spectators, and even an inline marathon flying past; humid Florida miles with thin hydration but top-tier vibes; stadium hills, muddy dog runs, and a squawking chicken medal you need to see to believe. Episode 210 is a full plate of running, Disney culture, and community wins—proof that better training, better races, and better trips all start with better questions. If this episode made you think, laugh, or plan your next finish line, tap follow, share it with a friend, and leave a quick review. This episode is brought to you by Better Beer TRAINING WEEKS Jack calls Joel from Tokyo to recap his World Athletics Championships experience, while Tess, Nick and for his FTK debut, Pulse Running athlete Myles Leyden record together to recap their Berlin Marathon race. BIG Q Friend Of The Show Delaney Pratt writes in to ask our thoughts on using fuel belts for marathon races over the analog version - grabbing cups as you run past. GIVE SOME KUDOS No surprises here - Jack gives his Kudos to Mt Fuji...while Joel surprised Jack sending his kudos to...Jack (that's a difficult sentence to read). In the Berlin recording Myles sends his Kudos to Sean White, while Tess boosts up her German Pulse athlete Natalie that she met in person before the race. Nick closes out by simping to both his partner Tess and his coach Jack (two in one episode???) TWHSOITWTWATSA Jack brings up a video of the American T&F fan that documents his hatred towards the Australian sprint team, while Joel brings up a funny Strava screenshot from one of Brett's runs this week. Tess kicks off the Berlin crew's segment by calling out Trump's speech on curing autism. Nick calls out an Instagram page from an Ohio based engineer who has dug a mine in her own property (this is very on brand for FTK). Myles closes out the episode bringing it back to running related content with his submission of two famous German brothers who took the piss out of the Berlin Marathon.
