Toni löscht derweil verdächtige Laufband-Ergebnisse – bloß damit er vor seinen beiden einzigen Freunden in der Fitness-App nicht unfit wirkt. This episode is brought to you by Shokz The episode kicks off with plenty of random life updates from the three hosts before Joel takes the listeners on a deeper dive into exactly what FTK has planned while they're up in Sydney. TRAINING WEEKS
Tess training week is interrupted constantly by Jack and Joel, yet many of their questions are left unanswered. Despite all the travel Tess manages to get some decent training in as she prepares for Berlin Marathon. Jack takes us through his last week in Hoyos as altitude/cabin fever has well and truly set in. For the first time this year we decide to leave one of Jack's audio drop-outs in so the listeners can understand the chaos that happens behind the scenes. Joel closes out the segment updating the listeners on where he's at with his stress fracture and shares a very frustrating health-insurance related story. HAFTU STRINTZOS INTERVIEW As explained on the episode we decided to skip The Big Q this week as we didn't want our conversation with Haftu to be lost in a sea of typical FTK ridiculousness. Brett and Joel chat with Haftu about his disappointing last marathon attempt, returning from injury and he shares the changes he's made for this marathon block to give him the best chance of success on race-day. Oh and did we mention he does all his training solo? Not too many world class runners train that way. GIVE SOME KUDOS
Tess gives her kudos to one of the most absurd things she's ever chosen which leads to plenty of laughs from Jack and Joel. Jack boasts about his newfound love for porridge which leads to a lengthy and unnecessary yarn from Joel about how he hates breakfast food. To close out the segment Joel gives his kudos to the elusive FTK hoodie that will be dropping soon. The hoodie we released two years ago sold like hotcakes (if they're considered breakfast food Joel wouldn't like them), so we are convinced these will move just as fast. TWHSOITWTWATSA
Tess uncovers an upload from the Trail Kings Podcast while Jack throws shade towards a track produced in support of / in honour of / in protest of (we aren't sure) Fred Kerley. Joel closes out the segment and one of our longest episodes ever with a hilarious video of an AI martian that a man befriends in his apartment using virtual reality (you have to see it to believe it). Hosts Chris Armstrong and Zac Newman kick off the episode with personal updates. Chris shares his experience at the Albert Park 10km, where he finished in 37:33. He describes an exhilarating start at 3:35/km, quickly realizing the pace was unsustainable, but managed to persevere with the crucial help of coach James Telford, who "pretty much dragged me around for 8kms". Despite having "nothing left at the finish" , Chris was very pleased to exceed his own expectations of 38:30, expressing gratitude for simply being able to compete again after injury. Zac also provides an update on his consistent progress in his return to running, diligently following coach James Telford's walk-jog program and consistently incorporating strength work, noting his body is adjusting well to continuous running. The weeks main interview features Run2PB coach Jonny Squire, 2:25 marathoner, who fresh off a new 10km road pb, jumps on for an update. He starts by reliving ballarat marathon and then shares insights from his recent Gold Coast Marathon pacing gig. He then delves into his fresh 10km PB at Albert Park, representing MUAC, discussing the race details and his performance. Jonny outlines his ambitious goals for the upcoming Berlin Marathon and provides a glimpse into his current training block as he prepares for this major event. The current record holder on Colorado's iconic Long's Peak joins the Steep Stuff Podcast to share her unique approach to the upcoming Sunapee Scramble US Mountain Running Championship.Flannery takes us inside her training methodology that seamlessly blends road marathoning with mountain athleticism. Rather than abandoning speed for the trails, she recently completed a "mini speed roadblock" including her first-ever track 5K at Stanford before transitioning to more specific trail workouts. This hybrid approach has her discovering that road speed translates remarkably well to downhill trail sections, while she continues working on what she considers her weakness – pushing the pace during uphill hiking sections. The conversation dives deep into race strategy for Sunapee's challenging two-loop course. Drawing on her experience from Cirque Series races like Snowbird, Flannery reveals her plan to use the first loop as a controlled threshold effort before truly racing the second loop. "I do better later in races... it just takes me a while to really warm up and get into something," she explains, offering valuable tactical insights for listeners approaching similar race formats. When asked what making Team USA would mean, Flannery shares a surprisingly poignant childhood connection: "I was that kid growing up where you'd ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up and I'd say I want to play for Team USA. But I wasn't talking about running, I was talking about soccer." Her journey from soccer dreams to elite mountain running showcases how athletic aspirations evolve in unexpected and beautiful ways.Join host James Lauriello for this candid conversation about balancing multiple racing disciplines, adapting to East Coast humidity, and the ambitious calendar ahead that includes Broken Arrow and potentially the Berlin Marathon. Whether you're crossing over between road and trail or simply fascinated by high-performance mountain athletes, Flannery's practical wisdom and refreshing honesty offer something for every runner to take to the mountains.Follow James on IG - @jameslaurielloFollow the Steep Stuff Podcast on IG - @steepstuff_podUse code steepstuffpod for 25% off your cart at UltimateDirection.com!

This is a live recording from Sunday, April 20 at the Boston Marathon Expo. Once again, WRS host Cherie Turner teamed up with Julie Sapper and Lisa Levin from the Run Farther and Faster podcast to co-host an excellent panel. This year's panel was titled Mental Strategies for Mastering the Marathon, and it featured exceptional masters marathoners Stephanie Bruce, Erica Stanley-Dottin, and Dot McMahon. These exception runners shares wisdom and experience on strategies for developing mental strength and resilience, mental approaches to the marathon, how to build confidence when you have self-doubt, and so much more! This is an episode to listen to again and again; it's so backed with helpful advice and useful takeaways. Stephanie Bruce, 41, has been racing professionally for over 15 years. Among her many racing accomplishments, she's placed 6th at the Chicago Marathon, and 10th at the London and NYC marathons. Bruce has also earned 3 national titles on the road, one in the half-marathon and twice in the 10k. Additionally, Bruce placed 6th at the Olympic Marathon Trials in 2020. Bruce started a new chapter in her running career this year, signing on with Tracksmith. She now runs for them professionally and will be helping to mentor younger runners going after big goals. Erica Stanley-Dottin, 51, came to marathoning later in life, at age 35. In her early 40s, she began to train seriously and joined the Black Roses racing team. She then learned about The List: an accounting of all the American-born Black women who have broken 3 hours in the marathon. As she continued to get faster at the marathon, this became her goal. Erica met that goal with room to spare at the 2022 Berlin Marathon where she ran 2:52, at 48 years old. That came just six months after running 3:01 at Boston. This year, Stanley-Dottin ran the Boston Marathon as a member of Team Bevans, in honor of marathon pioneer Marilyn Bevans.
