In March, the NY Times rocked the nation's discourse by publishing an article by Emma Camp, a senior at UVA, about how she experienced college and academic life to be full of too much self-censorship and not enough honest debate. It provided a firestorm of reactions, both supportive and harshly critical and she joins Henry here to break down the points she was getting at, the nuances of how we treat controversial speech in college, the debate around whether cancel culture is a threat to democracy, and how we can be both braver and smarter with what we say in large group settings.
