In this episode Elaine Nicholls and Al Coates discuss the Non Violent Resistance and the planned upcoming training that they are delivering. This training will offer direct support to adults who parent or care for children who display challenging behaviour. It will offer practical and personalised training based on Non Violent Resistance with the use of additional models and practical ideas developed by the trainers from their own personal lived experience and professional knowledge. This training will be delivered by Al Coates & Elaine Nicholls - both NVR Practitioners. In this episode we consider why some children, and adults, find transitions difficult. We consider the different types of transitions, big and small, and the impact on children and their behaviour in a range of settings including home and school. We also look at the impact of biology, experience and systems on children and think about how we can support easier less difficult transitions for children. This week we speak to Katy Horn from the Children's Society and is the service manager for their SCARPA (Safeguarding Children at Risk Prevention & Risk). You can look at their website here. Nicky Robertson is a holistic therapist with over 20 years experience working with people to allay anxiety and stress, and is an experienced teacher of mindfulness and meditation for all ages. Having 2 teenage sons, she has been acutely aware of the effects of the pandemic and enforced absence from school for her boys and is currently working with some young people on developing mindfulness techniques.

This is the start of the winter term and we're going to start putting the podcast out once every other week, six at a time to coincide with the academic term. Isolation booths remains a contentious issue with a highly charged discussion to be found online and amongst many parents. This is the final episode in this term's series and we start to consider one of the building blocks of resilience for children, self awareness. We describe some really practical methods of helping identify how they feel and how that can be linked to event or things that are happening in their lives. Resilience a much used word in the context of children and in this episode we discuss what we mean by resilience. In talking about resilience we can't not discuss adversity and specifically Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). We consider Resilience in general terms, what it is, if we can build it and how we understand it in the context of children and adults.
