A much-needed win for the Reds in a match featuring three goals, sixteen minutes of stoppage time, a six minute VAR check and multiple tributes to Taiwo Awoniyi. Goals for Morgan Gibbs-White and Nikola Milenković earned the points, despite Jarrod Bowen's late consolation. It's tight at the top in the run for the Champions' League, with Forest in 7th, but only a point behind Newcastle in third. Eek. Presented by George Edwards, with Tom Newton (back from parental leave). The view from the opposition comes from Jamie of the We Are West Ham podcast. A bittersweet afternoon, as the Reds secured European football for the first time in thirty years, but also crumbled against one of the worst teams in Premier League history as Leicester equalised and then piled on the pressure in the last ten minutes. Steven and George bring you a bumper match report, discussing the many talking points including goals, offside decisions and injuries, and of course the Big Guy's intervention at full-time that captured so many headlines. As the race for the Champions' League gets ever tighter, Forest will probably be happy with a point from this one. They played some nice stuff and looked more composed in the first half, with Sangaré partnering Anderson in central midfield. After falling behind to Eberechi Eze's penalty, Murillo deflected Neco Williams' wayward shot for a quick response. Steven and George discuss the game and whether this was a deserved point or a lucky escape. We also have a view from the home fans, from Palace Mad Mason. This one was really disappointing, as Thomas Frank's tactical choices saw the visitors deservedly take the points. If the first goal was a little unfortunate due to Ola Aina's slip, the second showed that Brentford deliberately played that way. Steven and Maradona debate the game, the rain, and what it means for Forest's chances of Champions League qualification. As always, we will return after the Palace match, win, lose or draw. The FA Cup Semi-Final ended in defeat as a disappointing first half saw the Reds concede a very early goal, as Man City threatened to overrun Nuno's team. The half-time introduction of Anthony Elanga almost paid immediate dividends but City scored a second straight away. Even then, the Reds hit the woodwork three times and forced an excellent save from Stefan Ortega, but Matz Sels also had to make some crucial interventions. Our match report features snippets from Wembley by Baz and Rich, some more considered analysis from Steven and George, and a view from Man City fan Mike Passaris. Join us later in the week for your Brentford match report, as the Reds return to league action, and we will also aim to reflect upon the Women's Championship winning season in due course. YOU REDS! It was a much needed win for Nottingham Forest that took them back to third in the table, as the race for the Champions' League gets ever tighter. Early goals from Elliot Anderson and Chris Wood took the Reds into a half-time lead, but in truth, Nuno's substitutions didn't really work, and Forest were under the cosh for the last half an hour. Richarlison did get a late goal, but first Matz Sels made two great saves from the Brazilian, and Harry Toffolo made an incredible clearance off the line. Your match report is brought to you by Steven and Baz, and we will be back later in the week with our Friday 5 roundup and a preview of Sunday's trip to Wembley for the FA Cup Semi Final. It was a first home defeat since November for the Reds, who were below par and deservedly lost, but the circumstances hurt as Murillo lost the ball in stoppage time after a Forest corner, leading to Abdoulaye Doucouré grabbing the points. George Edwards is in the host's chair, discussing the game with Baz, who felt that Forest were out-Nunoed by David Moyes and his team. We get a view from the away end by Adam from the Call of Everton channel. You can look at this two ways: either the Manager Of The Month curse hit and Forest predictably lost, or Nuno and the team recovered from an awful, passive start and gave Villa a match in the second half. Ultimately the Reds lost the game, but results elsewhere did not hurt us too much and the race for the Champions League is still on. Steven Toplis and Tom Newton review a match that saw Villa easily take an early two goal lead as the Reds just weren't switched on, but unlike the Man City, Bournemouth and Newcastle away games, they managed to regroup and Jota's second half strike was the least they deserved. The view from the home end comes from Neil of For The Love Of Paul McGrath. Forest have done the double over Manchester United for the first time since 1992BC (Brian Clough). Anthony Elanga's superb solo goal after just five minutes gave us the lead, and Murillo's goal line clearance at the death kept it for us. In between Man United played well but had little threat as Forest's hard work and tactical guile pretty much kept them at bay. Rich Ferraro is joined by Baz to talk about the match and they are joined by Man United fan Ste Barnes to share the view from the opposition. WOOF! Forest are going to Wembley! The Reds once again went through extra-time and penalties, and once again came out victorious as skipper Ryan Yates tucked away the last spot kick and sent Forest into the FA Cup semi-final, to play Manchester City. The match itself was not big on chances, but in truth Forest were the better team and mostly in control, although extra time had a few hairy moments. Then, despite Neco Williams' miss, Matz Sels, the captain, as well as Anderson, Hudson-Odoi and Milenković did the rest. Rich Ferraro is joined by a very excited George Edwards to report on the match, with a very magnanimous view from the home end by Brighton fan Rick. This week's Women's Football Show is a very special one, as we celebrate Carly and the team WINNING the National League Cup with a 3-1 victory over Stoke at the Bescot Stadium. Two goals from Charlie Wellings, and another from Mel Johnson sealed the win and brought some silverware back to the City Ground. Rich Ferraro is joined by Adam to talk about the game, the team selection and the big players on the day - obviously the goalscorers demand attention, but Carly Davies' tactics were important in unleashing the attacking potential whilst keeping it solid at the back. It was a strong victory despite the two late concessions away at Ipswich, as a six minute salvo fired Forest into an unassailable lead by half-time. Nikola Milenković's effort was supplemented by two goals by Anthony Elanga, while Jota Silva's late strike was sandwiched between two goals by the home team. In a match report recorded on Sunday before Morgan Gibbs-White's call-up to the England squad, Rich Ferraro is joined by George Edwards to celebrate well-taken goals, deft midfield passes and two-footed players. It was another long night in the FA Cup, as the Reds played 120 mins and needed penalties to beat Ipswich Town. The home team will feel like the worthy winners, and once again all their efforts in the shoot-out were superbly slotted home. Ryan Yates had equalised George Hirst's header in regulation time, leading to the extra period, and Forest once again brought on some of the big guns to get over the line. Rich Ferraro is joined by Steven Toplis to discuss the match, the team and tactical switches, and also the celebrations at the end. The world has become too black and white. The mentality should not be, either you're with me or against me. The world is nuanced and many topics and issues are filled with shades of grey. That is why it is unfortunate that discourse in this country has become so childish to the point where if someone disagrees with you then you take it as a personal slight. This is not the case. People can and will disagree with you in life and you just have to talk with them with an open mind while also standing firm in your beliefs. Then when the dust has settled, shake hands and go about your day like an adult.____________________________________________ How to find Philip Blackett: https://www.instagram.com/philipblackett/ https://www.amazon.com/stores/Philip-Blackett/author/B0CWL2ZDNC?ref=ap_rdr&isDramIntegrated=true&shoppingPortalEnabled=true ____________________________________________ Music from #InAudio: https://inaudio.org/ Infraction - Training Day If you are tired of feeling lost, alone, isolated, and aimless then check out our coaching program specifically designed to help men become the hero in their story. The recent evening with Billy Davies saw him joined by Terry the Kitman, Wes Morgan and Lee Camp for tales from both of the Scotsman's spells at the club, split into the Doughty years and the Fawaz era. There were a few surprising takes and a bit of dirt dished on some key personnel around the club. It was a stalemate at the City Ground as neither team created many chances of note. It was a first half horror show from the Reds as, despite taking an early lead, they meekly conceded four goals to Newcastle in 45 minutes to forget. The second half was much better as the hosts dropped off and Forest regained some fight, and Nikola Milenković and a late Ryan Yates effort at least reflected the team's efforts to try and rescue the game. In our match report, the Maradona of the Midlands talks to Tom Newton who endured a long afternoon and a difficult journey home. Forest are still in third going into Wednesday's match against Arsenal, and we'll report back after the game. NBN host Hollay Ghadery speaks with Tim Blacket about his award-winning debut short story collection, Grandview Drive (Nightwood Editions, 2024). Grandview Drive won two Saskatchewan Book Awards—the Fiction Book Award and the First Book Award. This is a pensive and darkly stunning collection that investigates the strange and unexpected intersections of loneliness and connection. From his car, a lonely, heartbroken man secretly watches strangers going about their lives in the comfort of their own homes; when caught, he wrecks his car in an attempt to escape. A man hears a car wreck outside his home and has a wild night of romance with a strange woman he meets at the scene. A reclusive old writer starts to believe he is becoming his own characters as he writes. A college student looks to his girlfriend's diary for pointers on how he should act. A mother confronted with her estranged son's death by car wreck organizes a memorial service for a list of attendees she has never met. This collection of sixteen connected short stories investigates the ways we humans so often feel lonely and alone, yet cannot avoid having our lives be contingent upon others--often in ways we can neither see nor understand. Blackett's characters long for meaningful connection and struggle to find it; they are too often unaware of the connections that are right in front of them. Grandview Drive is a collection that builds on itself; the stories stand on their own, but they are strengthened by the (sometimes secret) connections they hold with each other. Blackett's debut asks the reader to think about love and loss, loneliness and heartbreak, redemption and starting life anew. About Tim Blackett: Tim Blackett is a Canadian writer whose work has appeared in Briarpatch, [spaces], Grain Magazine and a small Saskatchewan journal called Swift, Flowing. He holds a Bachelor of Theology and a BA in English from the University of Regina, as well as a certificate in creative writing from Humber College. His short story collection, Grandview Drive, was shortlisted for two Saskatchewan book awards, and a pre-publication version placed second in the John V. Hicks Long Manuscript Award (2019). The titular story, "Grandview Drive" was longlisted for the Carter v. Cooper Short Fiction Award (2012). Blackett lives in Regina, SK. About Hollay Ghadery: Hollay Ghadery is an Iranian-Canadian multi-genre writer living in Ontario on Anishinaabe land. She has her MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Guelph. Fuse, her memoir of mixed-race identity and mental health, was released by Guernica Editions in 2021 and won the 2023 Canadian Bookclub Award for Nonfiction/Memoir. Her collection of poetry, Rebellion Box was released by Radiant Press in 2023, and her collection of short fiction, Widow Fantasies, was released with Gordon Hill Press in fall 2024. Her debut novel, The Unraveling of Ou, is due out with Palimpsest Press in 2026, and her children's book, Being with the Birds, with Guernica Editions in 2027. It's the return of the 1865 Women's Show, reviewing another very strong set of results for the Reds as they emerge from a busy fortnight with three wins and one draw. Carly Davies' team remain at the top of the National League Northern Premier Division, but it is tight at the top, so recent results against Rugby Borough and Wolves were really important. Rich Ferraro is joined by Adam to review recent results, extol the virtues of youth and experience, and to look forward to the National League Cup Final against Stoke next month. Forest were second best at Craven Cottage as Marco Silva and his team delivered a lesson in tactics and performance, and in truth, the home team could have won by more goals. Emile Smith Rowe's first half header was cancelled out by a goal out of almost nowhere by Chris Wood, but despite a change in formation and tactics, the Reds had no answer for Calvin Bassey's second half effort. Rich Ferraro is joined by George Edwards to discuss the game, the formation and whether Nuno might have got things wrong on this occasion. George also has some high praise for Matz Sels, who kept the scoreline respectable. We'll be back with our Women's Show in midweek, and our Friday 5 news roundup before the weekend's game away at Newcastle. Come On You Reds! Phew. A second-string Forest team were given a scare by League One Exeter, who scored an early goal in each half to hold the Reds to a draw after extra time. Despite Ibrahim Sangaré assisting both Ramón Sosa and Taiwo Awoniyi in the first half, Forest failed to create enough chances and had to bring some of the big guns off the bench. The match was held up by lengthy treatment for Awoniyi's head injury (thankfully he will be ok), and in the end, Premier League class showed in the penalty shoot-out as Wood, Gibbs-White, Anderson and Williams netted from the spot. Rich and George report back the morning after the night before, bleary-eyed and relieved. Our next podcast will be this week's Friday 5, previewing the league match against Fulham and bringing you the top five stories from the City Ground. Thanks for listening. The Reds recovered from a battering at Bournemouth by bouncing beleaguered Brighton to the kerb, hitting seven goals without reply in a statement victory. The 1994-95 season was a memorable one for Nottingham Forest. Frank Clark's side, who had just been promoted from Division One, took the Premier League by storm, sweeping teams aside with their counter-attacking prowess led by the likes of Stan Collymore, Bryan Roy, Steve Stone and Lars Bohinen. It was a season to remember as Forest mounted a title charge (sound familiar?!) and we tell the story of it all here. 30 years on, Steven Toplis and Tom Newton look back on that season in this 1865 Podcast Special. They talk to Mark Crossley and David Phillips about their memories of playing in that brilliant Forest side, as well Forest supporter Martin Bostock about his experiences of following the Reds throughout the 94-95 campaign. At half-time it looked like plain sailing but after Southampton scored, and Forest were controversially denied a fourth goal, it all got a bit nervy. Following a stoppage-time goal for the visitors, the Reds were indebted to Ola Aina's acrobatic clearance off the line for preserving the three points. The Maradona Of The Midlands and Baz discuss the game, the tactics, the fatigue and yes, the performance of Anthony Taylor as the referee. It was another special night at the City Ground, even if the Reds did well to hold on for a point, albeit against arguably the best team in Europe. Things got off to a flyer with Chris Wood's early strike, and Forest held their own until sub Diogo Jota scored with his first touch. Forest then had to show true grit and resilience (and some great saves from Matz Sels) to earn the point on a night that left players and fans exhausted. Our match report is brought to you by The Maradona Of The Midlands and George Edwards, with a view from the away end coming from Neil Atkinson of the excellent Anfield Wrap (who you can also find on the Sports Social Podcast Network). Forest got the job done with a relatively comfortable cup win over plucky Luton, with goals from Ryan Yates and Ramón Sosa. The away team did have some chances, but Forest could have scored more as well, and considering that the Reds made eleven changes to the team, and got Danilo back on the pitch, half a season after his badly broken ankle. George Edwards is joined by Tom Newton to talk about the match, the problems in the Bridgford End, and also to preview the forthcoming top of the table clash against Liverpool.
