BLAST FROM THE PAST: FIRST AIRED NOVEMBER 14, 2023 In this episode, Tara welcomes Alyssa Blask Campbell, CEO of Sew and Seed. Alyssa is a trusted expert in emotional development and the host of the popular podcast "Voices of Your Village." The conversation centers around Alyssa's new book, "Tiny Humans, Big Emotions: How to Navigate Tantrums, Meltdowns, and Defiance to Raise Emotionally Intelligent Children." Alyssa shares that the book is based on Collaborative Emotion Processing (CEP), a method for being with and moving through hard things. She and her colleague, Lauren Stauble developed this method after realizing that traditional behavior-focused approaches were not effective in real-life parenting situations. They wanted to create a comprehensive approach that focuses on the adult's self-awareness and self-care, as well as the interaction between adults and children. Tara and Alyssa discuss the importance of emotional intelligence and its impact on daily life. Alyssa shares how her perspective on emotional intelligence shifted when she started envisioning a world where these tools were accessible to everyone, including her own child and future generations. She emphasizes the need for emotional intelligence in adults, especially those in positions of power, so they can support others and model healthy ways of navigating difficult situations. Alyssa explains that emotional intelligence consists of five components: self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, social skills, and motivation. She highlights the significance of self-awareness, as it is the foundation for regulating emotions and accessing the other components. Alyssa uses personal examples, such as a social media backlash, to illustrate the importance of recognizing dysregulation cues and taking a step back before responding. They also touch on empathy and how it is best taught through modeling. Instead of claiming to understand exactly how someone feels in a given situation, she suggests connecting with the emotions someone is experiencing, rather than focusing on why they are feeling that way. If you're interested in teaching your children empathy, you should listen to this episode! ATQ (Accessing The Quantum Through Emotional Self-Mastery): https://link.shaminataylor.com/accessing-the-quantum-through-emotional-self-mastery-2025 In this episode of The Unapologetically Rich Show, Shamina Taylor unpacks why emotionally intelligent communication is one of the most powerful skills a woman can develop—and how speaking from blame quietly sabotages everything you want. When communication comes from blame, people shut down. Defenses rise. Conversations turn combative or cold. Even when you're "right," the outcome works against you. Shamina explains why this happens at the nervous-system level and how emotionally intelligent communication shifts you into a feminine frequency where influence feels natural, not forced. This episode explores how regulated, emotionally intelligent communication allows you to: Express needs without accusation or emotional charge Hold boundaries without creating resistance Lead conversations without control or power struggles De-escalate tension while staying rooted in your truth Create outcomes where people want to meet you This isn't about being softer or silencing yourself. It's about removing blame so your message can actually land. When blame leaves the room, defenses fall and your power becomes undeniable. If you want more money, better relationships, and higher-level conversations, this episode will change how you speak and how people respond to you. Welcome to episode #1013 of Thinking With Mitch Joel (formerly Six Pixels of Separation). At a time when organizations are wrestling with fractured cultures, hybrid work, and teams struggling to stay connected, it helps to learn from someone who has spent three decades proving that collaboration is not a personality trait but a designed environment, which is why this episode turns to the work of Vanessa Druskat, an award-winning researcher, educator at the University of New Hampshire, and one of the world's leading experts on team emotional intelligence. Vanessa has devoted her career to understanding how teams actually function in the real world, conducting years of field research inside global companies, university systems, and high-pressure environments to uncover the norms, habits, and emotional cues that separate high-performing groups from those that merely coexist. She is a pioneer of the Team Emotional Intelligence (Team EI) model, a framework now used by leaders around the world to build team cultures rooted in shared understanding, psychological safety, and constructive emotional expression. Her latest book, The Emotionally Intelligent Team - Building Collaborative Groups That Outperform The Rest, anchors this conversation and brings together decades of research showing that great teams are not the inevitable result of great individuals but the product of intentional cultures that enable people to listen, challenge, support, and adapt together. In our discussion, Vanessa explores the evolution of emotional intelligence in the workplace, the persistent resistance to emotional concepts in both academia and business, and the growing gap between individual achievement systems and the collective realities of modern work. She explains why leaders must think more like coaches, why norms matter more than personalities, how remote work demands more deliberate emotional connection, and why teams must continually review and recalibrate their dynamics to sustain high performance. Drawing on insights from social neuroscience, organizational psychology, and global fieldwork, she shows how belonging, shared understanding, and a sense of influence are not "soft skills" but hard prerequisites for collaboration in an increasingly polarized and distracted world. Vanessa also discusses why emotionally intelligent teams are fundamentally about how people interact, not just how they feel. Emotional intelligence used to be call soft skills, however the future just made EI the power skills. As AI gets smarter, the leaders who can sense emotion, read the room, and stay regulated under pressure will be the ones still standing. Tech will expose emotional blind spots faster than you can say “feedback” the question is, will we use it to connect and influence… or to manipulate? In this episode, Jac & Ral dive into the future of EQ: boundaried empathy (caring without carrying everything), emotionally intelligent organisations (not just leaders), and why EQ + adaptability is the new leadership currency. If you think emotional intelligence is fluffy, you're already behind. There comes a point for most of the women I work with where chasing “better” isn't what she wants anymore. She's done with that. At this point in her life, what she truly desires is to feel good in her own skin. She wants to move through her days with calm, clarity, and a deep sense of sovereignty. She craves success on her own terms. Freedom of choice. She wants to spend time with her kids — and actually be present. To sit across from her partner and enjoy the connection again. To lead in her work with certainty, not second-guessing. She wants to create the life she knows is possible — without needing to hustle her way there. This is what becomes available when emotional intelligence is no longer a concept, but a way of being. In this week's podcast episode, I'm guiding you into the identity of the emotionally intelligent woman — and what happens when she leads your life instead of your patterns taking the lead. Inside this episode, we explore: The 3 default patterns even self-aware women fall into (and how to shift them) Why emotional mastery is the gateway to true self-leadership How EQ (Emotional Intelligence) impacts not just your inner world — but your partnerships, parenting, and leadership What becomes possible when you live from alignment instead of reactivity   This is the foundation for having it all — not just the career, the love, the peace, the impact…but the capacity to enjoy them. In this episode, William Corless speaks with Dr. Vanessa Druskat, author of The Emotionally Intelligent Team: Building Collaborative Groups That Outperform the Rest. Vanessa reveals how high-performing teams use emotional intelligence as a system, not a personality trait. She shares the routines, rituals, and norms that help teams build trust, manage emotions, and create accountability from quick check-ins to playful “yellow and green card” feedback systems.

Most executives still chase superstar hires, assuming great individuals will automatically form great teams. In this Partnering Leadership conversation, Dr. Vanessa Druskat brings research depth and field-tested experience to make a different case. She is the author of The Emotionally Intelligent Team: Building Collaborative Groups that Outperform the Rest and a leading voice on how team norms drive performance. Her central claim is practical and testable. Outperformance comes from a clear system of team norms that reliably produce trust, candor, and real debate.Druskat explains why experienced leadership teams underdeliver even with strong résumés. Status and power dominate airtime. Quiet voices go unheard. The organization leaves talent on the table. Her work shows that ordinary teams become extraordinary when leaders codify the right norms, invite every voice, and convert distributed knowledge into better decisions. The episode organizes Team Emotional Intelligence into three buckets you can put to work fast. First, Belonging. People feel known, valued, and supported. Second, Learning Together. The team reviews what is working and what is not, and every voice participates in the analysis. Third, Outside In. The team seeks ideas and pressure tests beyond the group, including customers and friendly skeptics. Druskat ties these norms to psychological safety and faster, higher quality decisions, with concrete examples like 60-second check-ins, round-robins on live decisions, and five-minute debriefs. For time-pressed CEOs, the playbook is efficient. Start with an all-voices baseline to gauge current norms. Leaders often see a rosier picture than the team. Then pilot small behaviors in leadership meetings. Shift time from presenting to exchanging information and deciding. Add a short debrief after key moments. Druskat shares examples from executive teams and clinical settings where simple routines quickly lifted collaboration and results. She closes by tackling a stubborn myth. Hiring matters, but interactions matter more. Teams with average talent and superior norms outperform star teams with poor interactions. If your board expects speed, quality decisions, and execution, engineer the team's operating system, not just its org chart.Actionable TakeawaysYou'll learn a practical definition of Team Emotional Intelligence that senior leaders can measure and manage, not a feel-good idea.Hear how to use three buckets of norms to raise decision quality and execution speed. Belonging. Learning together. Outside in.You'll learn a quick baseline method that surfaces blind spots by including every voice, not only senior voices.Hear how to convert meetings into decision labs. Less presenting to impress, more exchanging information and deciding. You'll learn why five-minute debriefs after key moments create rapid learning without adding meeting bloat.Hear how to invite customers, operators, or a friendly skeptic to improve strategy accuracy and foresight. You'll learn why teams that include every voice unlock more talent than teams focused on individual star power.Connect with Vanessa DruskatVanessa Druskat Website Vanessa Drustkat LinkedIn Connect with Mahan Tavakoli: Mahan Tavakoli Website Mahan Tavakoli on LinkedIn Partnering Leadership Website

Welcome to the What's Next! Podcast with Tiffani Bova.    This week, I'm joined by Vanessa Druscat. Vanessa is an associate professor at the Peter T. Paul College of Business and Economics at the University of New Hampshire. As an internationally recognized leadership and team performance expert, she advises leaders and teams at over a dozen Fortune 500 and Fortune Global 500 companies. She has a new book out called The Emotionally Intelligent Team.   THIS EPISODE IS PERFECT FOR…anybody who wants to unlock stronger collaboration, cohesion, and performance in their organizations by building emotionally intelligent teams.   TODAY'S MAIN MESSAGE…teams don't thrive just because the right people are in the room. They thrive when leaders create the conditions for connection, trust, and continuous improvement. In this conversation, Vanessa Druskat shares what decades of research reveal about emotionally intelligent teams and discusses how to transform a group of individuals into a high-performing, collaborative team.    KEY TAKEAWAYS… Teams perform better when leaders address core emotional needs like belonging and recognition. High-performing teams take time to really know one another, beyond just titles and roles. Every voice matters and innovation often comes from unexpected perspectives. Leaders don't need to have all the answers but they do need to ask the right questions and listen.   WHAT I LOVE MOST…Vanessa's reminder that emotionally intelligent teams aren't just “nicer” to work in, they're more effective. Taking time to build connection and belonging is a performance multiplier.   Running Time: 30:57   Subscribe on iTunes     Find Tiffani Online: LinkedIn Facebook X    Find Vanessa Online: LinkedIn Website   Vanessa's Book: The Emotionally Intelligent Team: Building Collaborative Groups that Outperform the Rest

Here's the truth: Raising emotionally intelligent kids isn't about making sure they say “please” and “thank you.” It's about raising little humans who can actually handle big feelings, express themselves without melting down (well, most of the time), and build relationships that don't implode at the first sign of conflict. Emotional intelligence (EQ) is the underrated superpower that will serve your kids long after they've forgotten their multiplication tables. From playground drama to career success to healthy adult relationships, EQ is the thread that ties it all together. And while it doesn't come with a manual (seriously, why don't hospitals hand that out with the newborn onesie?), there are some universal truths every parent needs to know. To help us break it down, we're joined by Alyssa Blask Campbell. With years of experience teaching parents and kids how to build emotional awareness, resilience, and connection, Alyssa has made it her mission to help families thrive from the inside out. In this conversation, she shares practical strategies, science-backed insights, and the FACTS about what it really takes to raise kids who can navigate their emotions (instead of being ruled by them). Because let's be honest: you don't just want your kids to be successful — you want them to be good humans. And that starts with emotional intelligence. Jules, who has nearly 30 years of experience in elite counseling and coaching, is currently focused on transforming the leadership of the world's top executives. Her mission? To train 1.1 million people in the skills that help us lead—and live—with greater connection, compassion, and emotional clarity. During the conversation with Jess, Jules introduces her EQ Roadmap, a powerful four-step framework leaders can use to manage high-emotion moments, build trust quickly, and create safe, productive environments where change can take root. They also explore why even the smartest leaders lose their cool during stressful conversations, and how building “muscle memory” for emotionally intelligent leadership can transform everything from performance to retention. Highlights from the conversation include: ☑️ How to use curiosity, emotional labeling, and co-regulation to de-escalate conflict and get unstuck ☑️ Why investing in emotional intelligence helps people feel seen—and stay—at work ☑️ How to teach your team to ask for what they really need (without awkwardness or therapy vibes) Jules also shares how the ROI of emotional intelligence shows up in measurable business outcomes: better retention, faster conflict resolution, and stronger team performance. Whether you're managing change in a high-pressure environment or just trying to lead with more humanity, this episode is packed with tools you'll use. Getting people to voluntarily share their best information and act in the best interest of their team are two of the biggest challenges leaders face. In an insecure economy, it can be more difficult to get people on a team to demonstrate prosocial behavior, however, Dr. Vanessa Druskat's research proves that emotionally intelligent teams that are supportive of each other - by listening deeply, offering help, and celebrating the successes of others - will offer superior results. In this interview, Dr. Druskat shares how leaders can build collaborative groups that outperform the competition. She says that healthy teams emerge when norms are created that allow everyone on the team to be heard and to contribute in their roles. She goes on to discuss how to create a sense of belonging when so many people revile DEI, how AI is going to influence the desire to work collaboratively, and how her research on team effectiveness can be applied to create more unified communities. Dr. Vanessa Druskat is an Associate Professor of Organizational Behavior at the University of New Hampshire. She is an internationally recognized leadership and team performance expert who advises leaders and teams in some of the world's most respected Fortune 500 and Fortune Global 500 organizations. Her thirty-year research career examining differences between team cultures (i.e., social norms and routines) in high-performing and average-performing work teams led her to pioneer the concept of team emotional intelligence. She has published award-winning research articles in her field's top academic and practitioner journals and serves on the executive board of the Consortium for Research on Emotional Intelligence in Organizations. Her popular Harvard Business Review article (with S. Wolff) on emotionally intelligent teams has been reprinted four times in collections of HBR's most valued articles. Her book “The Emotionally Intelligent Team: Building Collaborative Groups that Outperform the Rest” was released in July of 2025.

But emotionally intelligent teams don't just magically fall into place — they're intentionally built, brick by sweaty brick. Dr. Vanessa Druskat joins us to break it all down. She's a globally recognized expert on team performance and emotional intelligence, and her new book, The Emotionally Intelligent Team, is basically the manual we all should've been handed before our first group project… or leadership role. Vanessa explains why individual emotional intelligence isn't enough — and why it's the team's collective practices that matter most. We talk about what high-performing, collaborative teams actually do differently, how to create group norms that drive trust and accountability, and why "getting along" is way less important than knowing how to navigate conflict. No more crossing fingers and hoping for chemistry. Want a team that performs and actually likes working together? This one's for you.
