Play Episode Listen Later Feb 10, 2021 35:35

Women's only networking groups have flourished in recent years. From single events, to women only mentorship programs or even networking groups at work, these programs became hugely popular. Pandemic highlighted some of the structural problems. Distribution of domestic work. As schools went online, women seemed to be the most affected, compared to men: more stressed, more likely to say they worried their income would suffer, more worried they might have to put themselves at risk because they couldn’t afford to stay at home. Domestic violence. Movement restrictions aimed to stop the spread of the coronavirus may be making violence in homes more frequent, more severe and more dangerous. The gender pay gap. As well, women in EU on average still make about 86 percent of what a man earns. The gender investment gap. Women business owners receive significantly less early stage investment, while on average deliver more than twice as much pay back for investors, making women-owned companies better investments for financial backers. On the other hand, according to the recent Baltic Startup Scene Report (https://about.crunchbase.com/blog/2020-report-baltic-startup-scene-shines-after-a-lackluster-2019/) Looking at data from the past 2 years, the Baltics have the same 13% diversity ratio as for the past 20 years, indicating that little to no progress has been made in improving the diversity of founding teams. There are a number of networking groups for women in Lithuania who are aiming to change that. Including Women go tech mentorship program and the Alter state: https://www.alterstate.org. Today we speak with Justina Klyvienė. She is the founder and managing partner of the Future Leadership innovation lab and a co-founder of the Alter State, a global community for women willing to innovate. Justina is also an organiser of the First Women Innovation sprint in Lithuania.
