Off-highway vehicles (OHV) are here to stay for folks who enjoy riding around the Oceano Dunes. The San Luis Obispo County Superior Court says OHV will not be banned from the area. Furthermore, the California Coastal Commission must pull its decision to close the Vehicular Recreation Area. A plan to build a high-speed train that will connect Las Vegas with Southern California took another important step this month. The massive transportation project by Brightline could begin as soon as this year, with an estimated completion plotted for around 2027. Former Assemblyman Rudy Salas, a Bakersfield Democrat, announced Tuesday that he would again challenge Rep. David Valadao, R-Hanford, in California's 22nd Congressional District. Valadao, 46, won the left-leaning 22nd in 2022 by a 3% margin of victory. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Is the defense contractor Booz Allen Hamilton pulling a Ticketmaster with public land fees? The billion-dollar company won a 10-year, $182 million contract to manage Recreation.gov in 2017. Since then it has collected varying processing fees from users. But some compare the charges to those “junk fees” customers face for hotel bookings to airline tickets. Plus, November 29th marked another anniversary of the Sand Creek Massacre. Our partneers share a report about that mass murder of at least 230 Cheyenne and Arapaho people by U.S. troops in 1864. And conservation groups are pushing to keep federal protections for Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments. Plus, the Weekly News Reel! Doug McMurdo of The Times-Independent discusses a proposed noise buffer between residential and commercial properties in Grand County and plans for a new 80-unit apartment complex in Moab. A proposed county ordinance creating a noise buffer has worried businesses in Moab. The rule would require some noisy establishments — like OHV outfitters or dog kennels — to be located outside of a 200-foot buffer from residential areas, schools and churches. Those businesses within the zone would need to build an 8-foot wall or tree barrier. Current businesses won't be impacted unless they make a substantial improvement to their property. But some OHV employers felt blindsided by the proposal. Plus, the Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Services has decided to not pull the liquor license of World Famous Woody's Tavern. And the Colorado River's foundational legal document turns 100 years old this month. The agreement among seven western states was groundbreaking for its time but, as our partners report, it continues to contribute to the southwest's water crisis. // Show Notes: // Photo: The proposed noise buffer would impact new businesses in the commercial zone along Highway 191 which runs through Moab. Welcome everyone and pull up a seat at the table. It's Lunchtime in Rome. Tonight is episode 154 entitled “Bad Patterns in Relationships.” We all fall into bad patterns in our relationships. Why does that happen? What is really behind it all? How can we possibly break that destructive cycle? Is there hope? Pull up a chair at the table and join us! Bad Patterns What are they? Cyclical conflict in a relationship Having the same fight over different details What are their characteristics? Every decision/conflict is handled the same way and it is not productive Every major conflict is about the same “thing” with different causes for the incident What causes it? General - conflict between where hurts go Anger/Guilt Anger/Self Condemnation Fear/Guilt Fear/Self Condemnation Anger & Fear look outward, Guilt & Self Condemnation inward' Procedural Conflict between emotional needs Opposite “need” of needs in general Respect vs. Security Affection vs. Security/Respect Encouragement vs. Support Attention vs. Acceptance Not being open, honest and vulnerable Not communicating the need - open Stealing the need - honest Being afraid (perhaps rightfully so) that the need won't be met - vulnerable Not mutually giving - one or both of the people are not loving the other by meeting an OHV communicated need. Unresolved Hurts Past hurts outside of a relationship that have not been comforted Past hurts within a relationship that have not been confessed, understood and forgiven Inhibits intimacy which prohibits the meeting of other needs Reduces the impact of other needs being met Clouds or diminishes an altruistic attempt to meet a need
