For this week's Edition, William Moore is joined by the Spectator's political editor Tim Shipman, the drinks writer Henry Jeffreys and the founder and chair of iNHouse Communications – and former director of communications for Theresa May – Katie Perrior. This week: another year, another prime ministerial resignation – it's all becoming a little too common in British politics. The guests give their views on Starmer's downfall and look ahead to the inevitable Andy Burnham premiership, from his policy agenda to who's in – and who's out – when it comes to the Cabinet and all-important role of Chancellor. Facing criticism that he lacks a mandate, not to mention how recently he was elected to Parliament, should he call for a general election? Burnham may be influenced from Gordon Brown's failure to call one in 2007 but, as Katie warns, snap elections don't always go your way – just ask Theresa May. And do you agree with Tim characterising Burnham as Labour's first female leader. Also: from Burnham's black t-shirt to Theresa May's kitten heels, does it matter how politicians dress? Henry makes his argument that people should always strive to dress well and why – from charity shops to the app Vinted – it's never been easier to do so.Plus: as the country bakes, what's the best booze to drink to cool off?Produced by Patrick Gibbons. Send Me A Message!Tonight, we're talking about one of the most confusing announcements eBay has made in a long time. New EU packaging rules come into force in August, eBay has published guidance, I've read it, Bell's read it, sellers have read it… and I'm still not convinced the average UK reseller knows whether they need to do anything at all. If you're selling the odd jersey, Funko Pop or pair of trainers overseas, are you now supposed to register in multiple countries? Does eBay International Shipping change anything? Or is this Germany all over again? Let's try and make sense of it together.I'm joined by the infamous "Bargain Bell" for this podcast.Plus the usual honest interactive reseller chat you've become accustomed to!My YouTube channel - https://www.youtube.com/@CarBoot_Chris?sub_confirmation=1My Website - http://www.carbootchris.comSupport the show

Fashion is one of the most polluting industries on the planet, and we no longer talk about 'fast fashion' but 'ultra-fast fashion' with the rise of retailers like Shein and Temu churning out over 100billion items of clothing every year. Consumption has doubled since the year 2000, but many of us will relate to the feeling of having nothing to wear, whilst we simultaneously feel overwhelmed at the volume of clothes in our wardrobes and drawers.Becky Barnes is a 'sustainable stylist' who embarked on 'styling' career with the ambition of helping women to feel good about themselves, but then stumbled across the heavy environmental impact of the fashion industry. She subsequently pivoted her business to focus on 'sustainable style' and now helps women to not only feel good about themselves, but to feel good about the clothes they're wearing.Join us for this chat about all things sustainable style covering: fast fashion and some of its impacts; secondhand style and top tips for charity shop shopping; Vinted and how to find things you like amongst the thousands of listings; and lots more!USEFUL LINKS:Becky Barnes- Website- Instagram- Facebook- Linked InThe Willow ReviewLess by Patrick GrantGemma Metheringham - @the_elephant_in_my_wardrobe) on InstagramHot or Cool Institute - Unfit, Unfair, UnfashionableSustainable(ish) Clubhouse - doors opening again soon!Do let me know your thoughts on this epsiode! What are your takeaways? Military wives. Military girlfriends. Female serving personnel. Women who have been made the punchline on verified military social media pages — comments about their bodies, their appearance, their worth, their right to exist online — who needed someone to say it out loud.In this episode Sophie and Kirsha expose the real comments, name the real pages, go through the government's own data and address the contradiction at the centre of a community that posts mental health content and abuse prompts in the same week.If it is banter — why does the deletion service in their bio exist?

This week it's just the two of us - no guests, no agenda, just a good old buyers' debrief. A few weeks ago we headed to Manchester for the Buying and Beyond meetup, and naturally that meant hitting the shops. What followed was a wide-ranging conversation about what we saw on the floor, where smart buyers are finding inspiration right now, and how the digital landscape is changing the way we read trends. If you've ever wanted to know where to go, what to look for, and how to cut through the noise - this one's for you.Key TakeawaysKnow your customer and stay true to your brand identity.Manchester's retail scene was a masterclass in brand clarity. River Island's revival showed what happens when a brand stops chasing competitors and leans back into its core aesthetic. Meanwhile, M&S continues to prove that great product + smart outfit-building styling = appeal across generations. The lesson: customers are increasingly shopping by lifestyle and interests, not age.You don't need a big travel budget to find inspiration.Japan may be the gold standard for retail theater, but Europe is packed with accessible alternatives - Paris neighborhoods, Amsterdam's sustainable design scene, Bratislava's independent makers, and emerging destinations like Slovenia. Closer to home, a visit to a completely different city (hello, Manchester) can shift your perspective in ways a quick local shop sprint never will.Vinted and TikTok Shop are trend thermometers - use them.TikTok Shop transaction volume rose 80% year-on-year in 2025, and resale/sustainable product lines are forecast to account for 20% of apparel sales by 2028. Scrolling Vinted's most-liked items gives buyers a real-time, customer-facing read on what people actually want — a live data feed that's worth adding to your regular comp-shopping toolkit.Want to go deeper on trend spotting and retail inspiration? The Remarkable Retail Podcast hits a major milestone with its 300th episode—and Steve Dennis and Michael LeBlanc mark the occasion with a conversation they've been looking forward to: a rare, candid sit-down with Pete Nordstrom, one of the most respected executives in modern retail. As Nordstrom celebrates its 125th anniversary, Pete offers an inside look at what has allowed the business to survive—and by most measures, lead—through dramatic shifts in consumer behavior, technology disruption, and industry consolidation. He traces his own journey from working the stockroom as a teenager to running one of North America's most iconic retailers, and reflects on the culture, customer obsession, and early omnichannel bets that continue to define the company. The conversation covers the future of department stores, the role of physical retail, Nordstrom Rack's continued expansion, the evolution of luxury partnerships, and hard-won lessons from the Canadian market. Before the interview, Steve and Michael dig into the week's biggest retail and macroeconomic stories. Rising oil prices, stubborn inflation, weakening consumer confidence, and shifting savings rates all raise questions about the health of the North American consumer—and what it means for retailers heading into the back half of the year. From there, the duo breaks down Amazon's latest earnings, where cloud, advertising, grocery, and AI-powered shopping tools continue to drive outsized growth. They examine early signs of operational momentum at Starbucks and debate whether Wayfair can convert market-share gains into something that actually looks like sustainable profitability. In the back half, Steve and Michael turn to TikTok Shops' explosive growth, the rising momentum of European resale platform Vinted, and the evolving economics of hybrid retail modell, including Bed Bath & Beyond's latest attempt at reinvention. Closing out the show, both hosts share what's on their radar: U.S. consumer savings trends, retail spending pressure, and the looming review of the North American trade agreement and what it could mean for retailers, brands, and cross-border commerce. Childhood epilepsy, medical treatment, and the power of a mother and son working together. Filmmaker Emma Matthews and her son Louis Petit have created a new film, along with his father Chris Petit. D is for Distance focuses on Louis's own experience of severe, drug‑resistant epilepsy. He suffered hundreds of seizures, frightening drug withdrawals and years of uncertainty — until they travelled to the Netherlands to get medical cannabis. Their film opens today at the British Film Institute in London. Emma and Louis join Anita Rani, along with Professor Finbar O'Callaghan from the Epilepsy Research Institute. The sale of second hand clothing is forecast to rise this year to £217bn globally. Here in the UK it's estimated the market has grown to more than £7bn, and nearly one in four fashion transactions. So why are women turning to resale sites like Vinted and Depop? Consumer expert Kate Hardcastle, founder of Insight With Passion, tells us where this growth is coming from and discusses future trends. Composer Tansy Davies tells Anita about The Passion of Mary Magdelene, which has just premiered at The Barbican in London and will be broadcast on BBC Radio 3 on Saturday 4 April at 10.30pm. The piece tells the story of the crucifixion through Jesus's most important female follower and the first person to witness the resurrection. Tansy talks about why she wanted to focus on Mary and examines the conflicting views about Mary Magdalene. In her new book Herlands, BBC global reporter Megha Mohan explores the history of women-led communities both physically and virtually, from co-housing for older women in Paris to the controversial feminist online trolls of South Korea. Megha travelled around the globe to hear from the women who created and care for these communities, which offer refuge, resilience, and connection to the land.
