Simon Anholt a dr. Robert Govers.Práve prof. Anholt a dr. In 2014, Anholt founded the Good Country, a project aimed at helping countries work together to tackle global challenges like climate change, poverty, migration and terrorism, by mobilizing “the only superpower left on the planet: global public opinion.” A best-selling author of many books, his latest release ‘The Good Country Equation' is an incredible tour of the world and what it takes to make a country a country, and a world good. Anholt is also a TEDx speaker with millions of views and an Honorary Professor of Political Science. We are very excited to welcome Simon Anholt to The Good Summit podcast!
I want to start this episode by asking a simple question. If you were told you had to live in a different country from now until the rest of your life, where would it be? Where would you go? That said, how would you go about choosing a new country? What criteria would you use? How would you go about giving each country a “report card” so to speak? How would you rate each country? And furthermore, what are the factors and characteristics of the country of your choice that would be the tipping point of your decision? But you see, when you think of a good country, do you think about great educational opportunities for your children, a secure and stable government or do you really think about a world class golf course. What you should be thinking about is things such as personal freedom, cost of living, health care, education, work and business, happiness, quality of life, safety and security, as well as environment and climate of course. Do you think of the everyday amenities that are so easily available to us in the United States or do you have the desire to live in a socially, economically, and politically stable country. Because it is these things that would make your new life abroad much easier and more enjoyable. Simon Anholt has spent years putting together the Good Country Index, which can be found at goodcountry.org. What I discovered in my research is that there seems to be a direct correlation between high rankings in the Good Country Index and countries that focus on sustainability. Listen to this episode and find out some very interesting facts as well as something you can do to to improve yourself no matter what else is going on in the world. Always live sustainably because this is how we build a better future. Patrick

Amanda Christensen, ideaXme contributor, socio-digital researcher and Marketing Manager at Cubaka, interviews Simon Anholt, academic, policy advisor, founder of The Good Country and author The Good Country Equation: How We Can Repair the World in One Generation. Amanda Christensen Comments: The Information Age has quite literally brought the world to our fingertips, at a moment’s notice we're now able to tap into major global events, like the U.S. election, Brexit negotiations, protests in Poland, and COVID vaccines being trialed and approved by numerous countries. Not only are we able to witness the news the world over, we're able to take part in the conversation, transforming local and national news and issues into global movements, as we've been seen with the likes of Greta Thunberg and the sustainability movement, Black Lives Matter, and The Facebook Ad Boycott. The digital era has given us a wealth of insight into national events around the world, from global leaders to news broadcasters to first-hand accounts shared to social media. Armed with this data, how do we both perceive and define what is a "good" country, and how do behavioural shifts like rapid digitisation and the concept of global "netizens" affect this perception? Simon Anholt: The Good Country Today I have the pleasure of being joined by political scientist, policy advisor and Founder of The Good Country, Simon Anholt. Anholt has spent the past twenty years advising the Presidents, Prime Ministers, monarchs and governments of fifty-six countries, helping them to engage more productively and imaginatively with the international community. In 2014, he started the Good Country Index, a system which ranks how much a country is contributing to the greater global good, factored against a number of socioeconomic and cultural benchmarks. Simon has written six books about countries, their brands and their role in the world. His most recent book, The Good Country Equation: How We Can Repair the World in One Generation, explores how his findings in both his research and professional experience can be used to ensure we equip the next generation with the tools to repair and improve the world. On this episode you'll hear from Simon Anholt about: His background, and his journey from advertising to advising world leaders. His research project, The Good Country Index, and The Good Generation project. His latest book, The Good Country Equation: How We Can Repair the World in One Generation, and if we can indeed repair the world in one generation. His Nations Brands Index project, and an overview of the concept of nations as brands. His thoughts on if rapid digitisation is altering the perception of borders and nations as a whole. This week Marcus speaks with Simon Anholt, a leading public diplomacy specialist who has a new book just out, called The Good Country Equation, which contains many anecdotes from his experience advising governments all across the globe, plus a series of recommendations for ‘'repairing the world in one generation''. Simon gives his honest insights about globalisation, multilateralism, and political leadership. “All the problems in the world are basically caused by two things; the way people behave and the way countries behave. People's everyday acts - omissions and commissions - that cause problems of climate change, pandemics, conflict, human rights abuses and the other things the world is facing today; and how countries behave, specifically governments. There is a fundamental tendency to compete instead of collaborate. Those are the things we need to fix! ” - Simon Anholt “The gold standard of good governance in the twenty-first century is harmonising your domestic and international affairs. You do the right thing for the people in your own territory and at the same time you do the right thing for the people of other countries and the rest of the planet. It is perfectly possible, and in fact it makes better policy if you do it.” - Simon Anholt Disclaimer: The views and opinions expressed are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views or position of Africa Practice and its management.

Aired Tuesday, 4 December 2018, 5:00 PM ESTThe Eisenhower Moment – Part IIAn Interview with Simon Anholt, Founder of “Good Country”“It’s time to evolve from children of God to adults of Good.” — Swami BeyondanandaNearly 60 years ago, U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower said, “I think that people want peace so much that one of these days governments had better get out of the way and let them have it.”I’ve been calling the times at hand “the Eisenhower moment” because we the people finally have the technological capability to communicate instantly and speak in one voice.Last week we spoke with Australian visionary activist Andrew Gaines about what he calls the Great Transition Initiative – a citizen led educational “movement of movements” to inspire mainstream commitment to transitioning to a life-affirming culture.A worthy intention, and a great beginning…And, the next question is, how will this intention be manifested, populated, and turned into a tangible movement for transformation? My guest this week, Simon Anholt, introduces a new worldwide platform called Good Country which has the ambitious intention of creating and populating the world’s next super-power — the awakening population of the world acting in one accord as one “virtual country”.Simon Anholt is an independent policy advisor based in the UK who has worked to help develop and implement strategies for enhanced economic, political and cultural engagement with many countries around the world. His TED talk on the “Good Country Index” has 5.5 million views, and as he will tell you has led to this exciting new platform. After receiving some 20,000 emails from around the world from people who identified with a “good” country — i.e., one who collaborates to bring goodness to the world — Simon and his colleague Madeline Hung set about to find out how many other people around the world felt the same way. After two years of research they determined about 10% of the world’s population — some 700 million people — shared this global view. While 10% might seem like a modest figure, a country with a population of 700 million would be the third most populous country in the world, behind China and India and ahead of the U.S.That’s when the idea emerged … why don’t we start a “virtual country”? As their website overview says: “We’re starting a new country. A country defined not by borders but by values. A country made up of hundreds of millions of people around the world, all motivated by a shared desire to make the world work better. A country with the power to bring about real change in the international community.”Can a new virtual country with millions of awakened citizens actually spark collaboration among nations? How is this potentially world-changing institution being created, and how can you become a part of it?If you’re curious, tune in this Tuesday, December 4th at 2 pm PT / 5 pm ET : http://omtimes.com/iom/shows/wiki-politiki-radio-show/ to find out.Or, find us on the Wiki archives on Wednesday: http://wikipolitiki.com/archives/To find out more about The Good Country, please go here. https://goodcountry.org/Support Wiki Politiki -- A Clear Voice In The "Bewilderness"If you LOVE what you hear, and appreciate the mission of Wiki Politiki, "put your money where your mouse is" ... In this episode, we speak with Simon Anholt and Madeline Hung of the Good Country. The Good Country is a modern country for the 21st century without a physical location, meaning that it is a virtual nation. It opened for citizenship in September 2018 and is designed to help make the world work better. Simon and Madeline discuss the importance of global collaboration, how to tackle the issues of global governance and citizen participation, and offers advice to students on how to become an ambitious global citizen.
